The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Japan and an OUTSTANDING time at La Rochelle. We ended up meeting Sakai-san and having a wonderful time. Can't say enough - just a great experience. Will be posting a writeup sometime soon.

[...] Don’t groan, please. I know French Onion Soup enjoys the same reputation as Spaghetti Bolognese, Sweet and Sour Pork and Lemon Chicken in that they were the first dishes that we were probably introduced to of the cuisine in question. And because of that, and because it seems so passe, people groan and say “Oh no, not that again”. I know I did when I, in an admittedly brattish moment, groaned when I was served French Onion Soup at Iron Chef Sakai’s La Rochelle restaurant. [...]

Hi Blythe-I know, I would've ordered the Chicken but for research purposes someone had to order the less exciting sounding dish. I forgot about the music box but that was really cute.

remember how they got out a music box to serenade that lady having a birthday lunch with her son? that was really cool.

and i did have the better dish. the moral of the story is, always order the foie gras!!!
