The slightly eccentric eating and cooking adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

I am planning on finally going to SN next Tuesday for dinner. Do you think that a reservation is necessary if we arrive at maybe 730pm or so?

They may be forced to raise prices slightly because of rent. They were actually trying to rent the large restaurant in the corner of Liverpool and Brown, the Chinese yumcha place. But they were given the runaround by the owner so they ended up looking in North Sydney. I think restaurants here will be happy when he closes, he gets the lion share of diners. =D

A Shanghai Night in North Sydney? Music to my ears! I never know which restaurant to choose in chinatown and after a long day I don't really want to stay in the city. This foodblog is valuable stuff!

Hi APHRODITE UNDERCOVER-Fantastic! Thanks for letting me know, that is so much closer to me than Ashfield. My husband will be deliriously happy. I wonder if they will raise the prices because it's in North Sydney? We haven't been for ages I'm afraid!

We've become great friends with the owner, who used to live in our apartment building here in Ashfield. He says he's opening a new restaurant in North Sydney. The original Shanghai Night is managed by his wife while he oversees New Shanghai night because it's newer. I wonder if I've seen you and your husband on one of your visits. =D

Hi Maria-I could eat Lup Cheong with a bowl of plain steamed rice and be a happy girl. Even though the thought of not having any veges would bother me, it would only bother me for a minute

Oh wow, you make these? They look so very difficult and everyone is fascinated to know how to make these. I'd love it if you could make some on your blog as I'd love to know how to make them!

It's not far from Marrickville actually, about 10-15 minutes away by car (in normal non peak hour traffic). I'd love to know what you think of it!

Oh I love Chinese pork sausage too.. I'm with you!

The dumplings I make sound like the ones you described.. thinner skinned and with a 'soup' inside. Yes.. you have to be careful not to burn your mouth!

I'm definitely curious about this Lorraine.. So many things to try when in Sydney! Now is Ashfield anywhere near Marrickville or Parklea?
