The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

i tried this gingerbread recipe. it spreads when you bake it and went soft fairly soon after they were cooked. do you have any advice on keeping them nice and crunchy even after they're decorated with fondant/royal icing?

Hi sara-They last for a while although out on the tree I'd say a few weeks. If you keep them in an airtight container they should be fine until you get your tree as they're surprisingly hardy :)

Hi Katie-Thankyou :D Once I got the hang of it, Royal icing was pretty good to work with and you get much more than just mixing icing sugar and water together and it sets very nicely (that is, if you can resist poking it which I couldn't sometimes).
