The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

They would want to have good food because the staff they employ at the gardeners road store range from rude to just plain dumb...
I have put up with it for years but now with Sonoma just around the corner I will be happy to take my business there!!....... Except for the sausage rolls!!! Damn you sausage rolls!!!!

I tried a Quince Tart today from the Marrickville shop.

I was immediately transported back to an autumn day in Berrima where I had one of the most luxurious, comforting Tarte Tatin with ice cream next to a crackling fire - It was raining, it was very windy yet it was one of the best late lunches I ever had.

The Quince Tart was like that times two.

Few people get to say that they have made a difference. Some people cure Cancer, some unlock the secrets of the Universe; and some make Quince Tarts. You should be proud.

Thanks for the years you gave back to me by the memories your tarts evoked today.

How? Its just pastry, custard and fruit - How do you do it? Absolute wizardry.

Being from the country I always check in with NQN when I am in Sydney because life's too short to eat bad food. While recently in Surry Hills I decided to try the Bourke St Bakery's Lamb, almond and harissa sausage roll. Gorgeous flavours - even enjoyed the currants. Big thanks NQN.

Always an officious out of work actor/staff member barking directions at customers and throwing food into bags. It's like they are all coming down from bad party drugs. Not dog friendly. Slow Service. Burnt Pastries. High Prices. Try and avoid it!

this seems like such a over-hyped place which i think is a shame because its distracting from the simple things this bakery is really good at! id heard about it and their book before so obviously had to check the place out. its a nice little shop and i coincidentally had the same choc-raspberry tart as you and although it was tasty and all i wasnt amazed or anything. i had kinda expected to be after all that hooplah and thats exactly what i mean, you know?! ;P my sourdough bread was also a let-down but at least my friends olive-rosemary loaf was pretty darn delish! ;) i would go for that or a savoury roll the next time...
