The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

HI BETTY,

I AM JENNY, DIRECTOR OF THE ITALIAN BOWL AND WRITE IN RESPONSE TO YOUR COMMENTS;
THE VONGOLE WAS TAKEN OFF THE MENU AS IT WAS NOT FEASIBLE FOR US TO LEAVE IT ON THE MENU. THE PRICE OF VONGOLE WENT UP SIGNIFICANTLY AND WE COULD NOT KEEP THIS DISH WITHIN THE PRICE RANGE FOR OUR RESTAURANT. IT WAS ONE OF OUR FAVOURITES ALSO, SHAME WE COULDN'T KEEP IT, BUT WE HAVE ALOT OF OTHER DISHES TO CHOOSE FROM.

I AM SORRY YOUR LAST VISIT DIDN'T MEET YOUR STANDARDS AND ONLY WISH THAT YOU WOULD HAVE INFORMED THE MANAGER ON DUTY. WE APPRECIATE ALL FEEDBACK, HOWEVER IF IT IS GIVEN AT THE TIME OF YOUR DINING WE COULD SEE WHY YOU WEREN'T SATISFY AND DEAL WITH IT APPROPRIATELY. IF YOU DO VISIT US AGAIN, KEEP THIS IN MIND, HOWEVER I DOUBT YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED A SECOND TIME.

THANKS

JENNY

I was a big fan of the Italian Bowl- especially of their Vongole which unfortunately they took off the menu. Additionally once upon a time you got free bread rolls and free parmesan with your take away order, not anymore. After my last bad experience I haven't been back in over 12 months.

Hi Sarah,

I am Jenny Director of The Italian Bowl. I am very disappointed to read your comments.

Our lasagne is not just a few sheets of pasta, mince and tomato and find it hard to believe that this is what was served to you.

Anyway I do appreciate feedback and will apologise for your dissatisfaction.

I can assure you that there is an appeal for the place, which is evident as it serves over 400 customers a day.

If you do revisit and are not happy with the product, please advise the Manager on Duty who will gladly rectify the issue.

I know it's hard to believe... but there is actually a place in Sydney which does a very good Spagehtti Bolognaise! In the menu they call it 'Veal Ragu' but it's eactly the same as spagbol for kids (that's how I came across this amazing taste!). It's called Cucina 105 (www.cucina105.com.au) in 105 Moore St, Liverpool. Try it and you will be hooked! (like me :p)

I used to live around the corner, and went only once to the Italian Bowl.
I ordered lasagne (takeaway) and almost cried when I opened the box to find a couple of sheets of pasta covered in beef mince with some tomato mixed in. I had picked it up and driven to a friend's so there was no way I could go back and complain, but I guess that is just how they make lasagne.
My friend chose spaghetti. Needless to say I do not understand the appeal of the place and will not be going there again, and warn all of my friends too.
I do love the amazing breakfasts (not lunch, it's average) at Caféism - they are fantastic!!!!!
And the pastizi café too, is a bit of a novelty on the way home late at night - I think the latest I have been there is 2am.

To Jenny from Italian Bowl at Newton.

Please, please open an eatery like this in the Wollongong CBD. You would easily get 400+ customers a day because there's nothing remotely like it in whole the Illawarra and South Coast.

Just a comment about the complaint of insufficient number of peppercorns---I know a plethora of friends who cannot eat pepper, and they're forced to pick through meals to remove peppercorns or large ground pepper pieces while their meal goes cold. Ever since chefs became media celebrities, it has become necessary to request "no pepper" every time one orders.

I agree re: the lack of Peppercorns. I had this sauce with the Penne there last night and there were about 2 peppercorns!
