The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

Hi Kristy-Thanks so much! I really wish they put it on the menu, every time I see it, I'm craving another bite  I wish I was closer to Balmain myself too!

Loved your reveiw. This is my favourite cafe. I used to work in Rozelle and would frequent Bertoni's very often. The particular panini you had looks AWESOME. I usually get their panini's because I love the bread that it comes in. Reminds me of the soft, oily consistency of a really good focaccia. Sadly I'm a stay at home mum now, nowhere near balmain.

Hi Maria-Oh wow, we're practically Subway twins! I love extra marinara sauce too and their cheese is nicer when it's just slightly melted and not hard sizzled and crunchy. Also I like it on Italian herbs and cheese bread although sometimes they do run out of it.

Well they do usually put 4 meatballs on it but you can ask for more for $1.50 extra and they'll put an extra 4 on then which I think is totally worth it! ;)

Hi Lorraine,

My fav is meatball and southwest chipotle sauce too.. However.. I ask for a bit of marinara (tomato/oregano-ish) sauce aswell. I get it toasted sometimes but ask for the cheese to be put on after toasting as it then melts from the heat of the bread/meatballs..and it's more cheesy in flavour for some reason. How's that for unsolicited information?!

I'm still considering trying the meatballs salad which you've mentioned before! Mmmm. Would they only put 3 or 4 meatballs in it though? 4 would be ok, no less ;-)

Hi Maria-Yes it's for that reason that I don't go to clubs or bars or pubs. I like to have a conversation, crazy as that sounds.

Interesting that you mention Subway meatballs, a Subway meatball sub with southwest chipotle dressing is my favourite fast food.

I adore Osso Bucco, I haven't made it for a while, I suppose it's more a winter food?

Loud, rowdy restaurants don't go down too well with my husband whom you can't have a conversation with if there's all of that extra noise. He kind-of becomes deaf..and really struggles and I get frustrated because I want to talk! :-)

So that *was* a plastic container that I saw. Hmmm. I do have a weakness for meatballs. Asian, Italian.. Subway.. ;-)

I love Osso Bucco too.. and used to make it quite a bit. But not for a long time now for some reason?

Hi Belimda-oooh you've got one of their Nutella donuts! Lucky you-and great idea about putting it in the oven to go crunchy!

Hi Felicia-You should definitely do that! There's plenty of great food here to make the trip worthwhile ;)

Hi Maria-I agree, Balmain is great for food. It sounds like a good excuse for a visit though! ;)

This place looks fabulous! I was at a meet and greet/info session and was told that Balmain is a great place for Italian food, cafes and boutiques- sorta like port melbourne. I will make my way down there soon to stuff myself with donuts and meatballs

I love this place - am just finishing off a nutella donut, which I put in the oven to go crunchy *bliss*.

You also inspired a trip to Adriano Zumbo's!
