The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

Wow very informative post, thank you. Love how you compared it to Coles & Woolworths bless ur heart! I have been shopping online with Coles & Woolworths for the past 2 years but am sick of the fruit & veg being not fresh (its like a year old), small and bad quality, don't forget the $13 delivery fee... I never buy produce from them now I end up buying it from expensive grocers. So I was interested in trying Flemington Direct... and I will based on your informative post :) Cheers

There is a wonderful Greek Deli in Lane Cove called The Agora on Burns Bay Rd. I no longer live in the area but occasionally drive back to have a look at their specials. This is a family-run business so you do get better service. The fresh F&V produce is impressive. They have a huge vaiety of foreign cheeses and fresh paté. Definitely worth checking out.

Hi pigeon-Hmmm that's a very good point. I know that with Flemington Direct I did get the name of the packer and to me, there were some items that I could see weren't quite right so I don't know if even putting the packer's name helps. I will just keep searching and will post what I find. And if you do find anyone that you like please let me know :)

Thanks Lorraine! I also like to select my own fruit and vegetables, which is why I've been doing so much research before ordering a home delivery box. I would also only want to trust someone else to pick my fruit and veg if I know that it's going to be of a quality that I can't get from the shops around me, or if it's going to work out being better value for money. Please keep us updated on what you find out!

Hi Michelle-Thanks for that recommendation! :)

Hi Pigeon-You're more than welcome :) I didn't end up making another order from Flemington Direct. I'm trying to find one that has either a point of difference (super fresh fruit) or something else. The F&V I got from Field To Feast was superb quality so I would definitely order from them again. A part of me also likes picking the fruit and veg myself though and seeing what is in season. Hope this helps! :)

Hi Lorraine-

Thanks so much for this post. I've been thinking about ordering veggies through these home delivery services and it was really helpful to hear about your experience with Flemington Direct.

I'm sorry for posting this here, but I tried to post to the Vogue forums and for some reason that thread on markets and supermarkets seems to have been closed. I was wondering if you had ordered again from Flemington Direct? If so, did you have a better experience the next time? Also, have you tried Sydneyfresh? Or perhaps can recommend another service? I'm not sure if I want to order a fruit and veggie box just because it seems fun and gimmicky, or if it will actually be better value and quality. I currently do most of my fresh food shopping at Norton's, which of course is a wonderful grocers. But I've spent the past week researching these home delivery services and dreaming of cheap, wonderful, seasonal food appearing on my doorstep.

Thanks so much for your help and advice.

Best,
Pigeon

Oh just one more thing for any of your readers that will be able to make it to the WF Farmers Markets. You just have to go to the Lamb and Pork stalls and the fresh bread is supurb. Yum!
