The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

Hi pea & pear-Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! :) I agree, for that price, it's definitely worth a try. Have fun and do let me know what you think! :D

Hi NQN,
I was so glad to stumble across this review. We drive past rise all the time and always nearly go. I too have heard the Tets comparrison. I think I am going to give it a go, for the price it looks like you can't really go wrong. Happy Belated birthday, now to read the rest of your reviews :)

Hi Y-Thanks, it was anxious times there while hubby was playing with the camera levels! Who knows for next year-that's the trap of how to top the previous year

Hi tian-The prawn tasted lovely but I think it was suffering from a little jet lag having crossed so many time zones and country borders

Hi Maria-It was really reasonable, especially for the amount of effort that it would've taken them! That's a pity about the degustation for your birthday :(

I laughed too when the wonton cup exploded everywhere (after some fake wailing of course). The spicy tuna tartare was gorgeous, the sauce was quite thick, like a korean chili marinade sauce.

Yep the gochujang was gorgeous but unusual with the ricotta, you're right, it's not your usual combination.

I'm not sure what kind of leaves they used but I noticed that at <a href="http://www.notquitenigella.com/2007/01/29/lunch-at-iron-chef-japaneses-restaurant-kaishoku-michiba-in-ginza/" rel="nofollow">Iron Chef Michiba's restaurant</a> in Tokyo, he used quite a bit of foliage too!

Haha yes it did make me feel much more special! ;) How lovely!

Hi Iron Chef Shellie-Thankyou so much sweetie! :D

Hi SydneyGal-Yup he definitely got bonus points for that

Hi grace-Thanks for saying that. I felt like I was going on a bit too much there so it's nice to hear that! :D

I can't get over the degustation price/s.. (on the website) they are so very reasonable! We've paid about double for a degustation menu that has, in short, sucked. I think I would have really enjoyed the courses on offer there at "Rise". For my birthday the degustation courses were not impressive at all at 2Faces restaurant in Geelong.

Really like the red door entrance! & I found the cherry tomato in the broth odd? I would have loved that assorted sashimi course too.. and I'm very curious about how that spicy tuna tartare tasted.. Forgive me, but lol at your poor shattered wonton cup :-D I loooove soft shell crab and a good (cold) noodle salad.

Did the gochujang taste ok infused with the ricotta? It's not a flavour I would have imagined complimenting ricotta? Not that I've tasted it before.. but just going from your description. I could be wrong! But it looks like such a lightly crunchy "eat-me" morsel.. there on the plate (the zucchini flower).

Looks like a houseplant with waxy leaves died to create your dinners (referring to the green leaves under a few of the things)..hehe!

So happy for you that you had that lovely looking dessert plate (yay to your hubby for organising it to be personalised). It's so much better than the other place where you received some tiny squares of sugary "fudge" on your plate with a candle.. yeah?

I love Japanese.. thanks for sharing! Oh..and my Mums name was Rose too! :)
