The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

The 2 outstanding dishes at Ratu are the ayam goreng pemudi and the bihun goreng which is only available for lunch. I've twisted the owner Michael's arm hard enough once and he got us the bihun goreng for dinner, absolutely the best in Sydney.

Hi Y-I know, I have a Homer Simpson moment when I see fried chicken

Hi r-Yes very true! It is probably where it came from. It was so lovely and I find peasant food so great in winter.

Hi Maria-It was a first time for me too, although now that I've been to a couple of places since, I've seen it at both. Yes I don't think I've seen that pockmarked paddle in the shops anywhere either :( Although they should make their way to all the shops as they're brilliant.

Hmmm interesting question, I have to confess none were particularly spicy, just mildly pleasantly spicy though perhaps the Lontong Salad if I had to hazard a guess? :)

Hi M-I know, must make my way back to Satay Delight soon. I love their Rendang, nothing compares to it :) Thanks!

Hi grace-I know, I'm a sucker for a great name so I was sold instantly. It was kind of, sort of like a creamy creaming soda (do you have those?). Sort of raspberry flavoured but with something extra in it. Hehe sure! :)

Now this is a little closer to home for me! Satay Delight at UNSW-- Ahh. I like buying a plate and taking it into the lounge next door!

Lovely pictures! I must drag the significant other here sometime!

The Lontong salad had me fascinated.. I'd never heard of such a thing! I think I'd like it :)

My rice paddle isn't pocked like the one in the picture.. Interesting! I don't think I've seen them anywhere.

What was the spiciest dish here among the photo's?

the Dutch curried soup which you were reminded of probably has its etymology in Indonesian cuisine! (traditional Dutch food is very much a heavy/warm up peasant type food with taste and spices especially, relegated to lower priorities)
