The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

Hi Maria-I know, the lung was a bit of a stretch for most of us but curiousity got the better of us, until of course the kitchen vetoed that decision completely!

Hehe yes it does seem a little unusual with the vineleaves but it seems to be everywhere in these little chinese restaurants.

Haha yes I keep calling it the Pigeon eggplant  Despite the crispiness it wasn't too oily at all which was nice. Eggplant can be quite the sponge when it comes to oil though but this one didn't seem too oily.

It was all surprisingly delicious! :)

Hi Sheera - Ahh ok thanks for letting me know :) I saw the prune juice at a Chinatown store today so it's good to know it can be easily bought.

Hi Jenny-Thanks for the recommendation, I really did enjoy it and hope to try more :) Mmm those dumplings look fantastic!

I think you're right about Silk Road although I haven't yet been there. We've walked past it a few times always meaning to go in.

I forgot to mention -have you been to another restaurant named Silk Road (I think it was)? I believe that place is Uighur owned as well although the food has more Eastern Chinese influence.

I can't wait to try more Uighur food -and your write up here makes it all the more exciting. Something about Central Asian food that intrigues me.
There's another Uighur restuarant named Taklimakan Uyghur Restaurant that's apparently really good. It's located at Level 1, Shop 4, 90 Hay Street, Haymarket if you're interested :)
It used to be opposite Market City. Anyhow, this particular dumpling (http://www.flickr.com/photos/roziewong/934685362/) from the place looks good!

Yeah Kiroran is Uighurian as well. My friends and I usually go there. We also make sure we have the skewers, noodles, eggplants, and fish. And we always make it a point to finish off with prune juice. Makes everything go down easier. ;)

I'm not against offal usually..and enjoy tongue.. especially in sandwiches, however, lung? I know it didn't appear on the menu, but even I started question whether I'd try it?

Lol at the vine leaves/grapes decor.. so cheesy (to me anyway)! Like a camouflage canopy so the enemy overhead won't bomb you...

When I read "Pidigan".. I immediately thought "Ooh they had pigeon!"... ;-) I love an eggplant dish at a local curry takeaway but find they put too much oil in it. Was this too oily? I only ask because it looks quite shiny.

That prune juice bottle is indeed pretty and warrants a purchase for aesthetics alone!

Love the look of the dumplins, samosa and that meat filled pastry looks delicious :)

Hi Sheera-Is that the other Uighurian place? I remember seeing that there are two together and they're both Uighurian cuisine. How funny is that?

Hi Adrian-I know, I would have wholeheartedly recommended it but that left me rather peeved. It's a pity they felt they had to charge for food that was not eaten and not even give the food to you! :(

Hi giz-Yes it is, although thankfully I didn't see any tastebuds. That would have freaked me out a little!
