If you’ve ever made cupcakes, dreamt of making your own cupcakes or just enjoyed eating them, a shop like Iced Affair is like the cupcake version of landing at the Manolo Blahnik or Jimmy Choo boutique. With cupcakes, you know that whilst it must taste good, the decoration is what you’re really after. I am not quite certain what makes decorating on a tiny round cake much more fun that a large cake but it’s something that draws me to make cupcakes again and again. And I find myself ferreting away decorations, sprinkles and decos to use in future cupcakes. I have an enormous box of cupcake decorations-that is, what I haven’t already fit in my bulging cupboards.
It’s a small lilac coloured shop on a side street of Camperdown stocked full of all manner of cake decorating supplies. On one wall is huge selection of sprinkles, cachous or non pareils as they’re called in the U.S. Small 120g packets of sprinkles range from $4.95 and above.
There are pastel pink hued drops, autumn leaves, ice cream cones, flowers, fish and more to choose from.
And colour sprays, dyes and pens.
Like a lot of cake decorating places and cupcake people, she’s a little protective and asks that we not take photos of the moulds that they sell, in case someone copies the mould and the cookie cutters in case they don’t have them in stock. So whilst I’d love to show you some of the designs, I can’t!
There’s a cupboard full of the fancier, larger flowers for wedding cakes and similar extravaganzas.
As well as all manner of fondant, coloured and plain.
What I buy today is some sprinkles and some of these royal icing flowers to put on top of cupcakes. Here you can buy them singly as opposed to buying a large box, with prices ranging from 55c-95c per flower. I choose some flowers that I have no real chance of making, some lemon yellow and purple roses. Well I have tried, but mine weren’t anywhere near as good as these. I also purchase some black colouring flower (thinking ahead for Halloween, yes I know, it’s months away) and some gorgeous butterfly ribbon.

Hi,
I’ve never been to Iced Affair, but wanted to tell you about a similar place in Bexley called Nandos. It is a bit bizarre but she makes all her own sugared flowers and everything is so disorganised. But it is a lot of fun and she charges really weird prices, like 14c a flower. I love going there.
Hi jules-Thanks for letting me know, sounds quite interesting and the flowers are so cheap! I must get there sometime
I wonder if people mistake her shop for the chicken chain? Would you have the address and phone number details? I tried looking it up online and I couldn’t find it
I wish I lived closer as the shop looks like so much fun! Lucky you, as I don’t think we have anything like that here in the Southern States.
I was there not too long ago. The lady behind the counter is soo nice. She even let me take a peek at the birthday cake which was a work in progress out the back where her workshop and classroom is.
(Chicken shop.. hahahaha..)
Hi Kim-Wow, really? I thought you guys would have lots of stores like that. Do you buy your supplies online?
Hi Y-Hehe a secret sneak peak is always good. Have you been to any of her classes?
I have the card at home somewhere, so if you can give me a few days I can find it and get back to you. It’s on Bexley Rd and almost the corner of Forest Rd. It is next door to an ammo shop, which is kind of scary but also ironic.
Hi jules-that would be wonderful and no hurry. I’m off overseas in a few days so I probably won’t be able to get there until August. But I’d definitely love to take a peek there!
LOL ammo shop!
These guys did my wedding 5+ years ago and I cannot recommend Evan (the guy running the joint) highly enough.
They were perfect and (can you believe?) reasonably priced!
Hi grocer-That’s great to hear. I didn’t meet Evan, only Dimity who was very nice.
What a lovely little shop.. it’d be much fun shopping in there I think. Is it somewhere you make a point of going to regularly? Is it far from where you live?
I wish I had known this place existed when I was in Sydney last! I would have had a ball!! Vida x
Hi Maria-It’s not far from where I live although I have somewhere a bit closer although the range isn’t as comprehensive so this was actually my first visit (but not my last)
Hi Vida-It is so much fun going through all of the stuff, you could easily spend up big here
thanks for the tip! I love it when you show us where we can get baking supplies!!
do you sell ediable star sprinkles?
do you sell purple cachous?
Thanks for the tip! I’m up on the Northern Beaches and was struggling where to get supplies after doing a class at “Cakes that Inspire”. I was going to trek out to Castle Hill to Cake Decorating Central but was heading into the city one day and decided to check Iced Affair out. Got pretty much everything I needed for my son’s first birthday and it smelled soooooooo yummy in there! They were very helpful in figuring out exactly how much stuff I’d need, even though I was a bit vague on minor things like sizes of cake tins!!
Iced Affair is my all time favourite shop!!!! Some girls drool over shoes;I drool over cake decorating stuff and beautiful designer cakes. It’s also where I take cake decorating classes with Evan who is so creative and a great fun teacher. Dimity is lovely and they can’t help you enough, especially when you’re having a bad cake day.
Fantastic Customer Service. I called Iced Affair on Monday morning looking for an icing image for my son’s 4th Birthday cake. I spoke with a lovely gentleman (sorry I didn’t get his name); he was very helpful and went out of his way to order what I was looking for. I then got a prompt follow up phone call 2 days later to say that it had arrived. Thank You very much. What great friendly customer service. I will be recommending you to all my friends.
Hello
I stumbled across this post of yours from 2008 as I was planning some serious cupcake baking.
I live just down the road from Iced Affair and had no idea it even existed! Thanks so much for writing about it, I had the best time picking out my decorations.
I met Evan, and told him I had read about his store on your blog – he was very chuffed.
He wanted to send you a note online to say thanks, but isn’t very tech savvy – so I’m passing on his thanks to you. He mentioned that he’d love to chat with you if you have a spare minute to give him a buzz.
Cheers,
Hannah

[...] It was a few weeks ago that we had S & A over for dinner. This is when I made macarons for the first time ever. I went the whole kit and caboodle and bought food colouring powders, which apparently are the best colouring option for macarons. I was a bit apprehensive, because EVERYONE told me how easy they are to stuff up… even the lady at Iced Affair, while I was buying the food dye powders! If you’re interested, Iced Affair, is a great specialty shop which sells lots of baking paraphernalia, including those little sugar flowers that you put on cupcakes! For a more comprehensive overview of the store, check out Not Quite Nigella’s blog post on the store here. [...]
[...] and chocolate is melted. As for the embroidery pattern, I was given some tips from the man who owns An Iced Affair which is where I got the floral stamps from. Evan advised me to use a damp but not wet paintbrush and to do one flower at a time as the icing [...]
