Hi Lorraine, thanks for posting this. Coming from a chinese family we ate quite a bit of congee growing up and always plain congee with a dash of soy when we were sick. Many years ago when I was sick I wanted congee and my non chinese Canadian husband attempted to make it, poor thing ended up making a pot of what resembled riostto ! :) this recipe will come in handy.

Yay! I just made this YUM! I halved the recipe and it was enough for three people to have two serves each. On top I added hard boiled egg, cabbage, chili and coriander Mmmm:)

I tried congee for the first time on the weekend, along with chicken feet. WOAH SO GOOD! I don't see why so many people are scared of chicken feet when they will happily eat chicken wings, drumsticks, liver pate....take away!

Two questions:
1. Can I make this with normal long grain rice?
2. Do I mix the meat and the onion, walnut etc and place that into the rice to cook? OR do I only mix in the meat?

Thanks:)

Hi Micheline-Aww thanks! I try to as much as possible :) I think you might want to do double the quantity depending on what else you're serving as I think 1 cup of rice would serve perhaps 5 people best :)

Hi Lorraine, you are so wonderful. You always reply to our comments. I want to make congee for 10 people. Will your recipe (1 cup rice - 10 cups stock) cater for 10 people? Thanks

Hi Beau-Fantastic! I agree, it's great for some days when you need something easy and comforting :)

Hi Mary-Ahh medicinal congee, I've never tried that! Mulberries would seem rather odd in it I agree! :)

Hi Micheline-Sadly I don't think you can make it with sticky rice as it will produce a dish with a very different texture. Sorry! :)

Hi, can we make congee with sticky rice? All congee recipes I see are made with short grain rice. I have a packet of sticky rice at home and was wondering if the congee will turn out all right?
Thank you

I like congee too! Except when my Mum makes 'medicinal' congee where she put walnuts in it (no meat or flavouring, just walnuts). I think the worst one was when she put mulberries in it. *shudder*
