The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

Hi Maria-I was a bit surprised, although the service from the owner was nice, the waiters and waitresses weren't as assured. I can't be the only one that wanted my coat hung, it was winter!

I can eat so much salmon sashimi but only a piece or tow of tuna. My husband is the opposite though.

Mmm great idea about the caviar! Lucky you having caviar supplied to you :) I can only dream as I am crazy about the stuff, completely, wholly and devotedly.

I have to say I thought the Aburi sushi was perfect-just more of it would have suited me fine  yes not sure what happened with the sushi, it was rather odd that they were disappointing when the more complex dishes were done so well?

Thankyou! :D

That was a bit disappointing about them not wanting to take your coat. I hope it fared well anyway and didn't get dirty while you were having dinner?

I'm more into salmon sashimi too..but an excellent tuna can be good too. I just don't come across it as often!

The Chicken Karaage, aswell as not impressing you.. doesn't impress visually either.. it's a bit ugly actually! :P

I like my tempura earth shatteringly crispy too. Recently I had some tempura at 'Taxi' in Melbourne when hubby and I went away..one of the entree's being tempura vegetables. It was on Derryn Hinch's recommendation that I chose that restaurant (absolutely no regrets there, we LOVED it)..however it was supposed to be the best tempura ever and I think something went wrong in the kitchen because I think I've made better tempura to be honest. It wasn't bad, but it didn't live up to Derryn's hype. (I read 'Hungry Hinch' on his website at Hinch.net)...

Anal obs alert: I too love the idea of the Aburi sushi (though I notice it's *nigiri* style sushi--just an observation ;) )

That ocean trout belly with caviar... ohhh myyy.. I'd LOVE that!! We had some caviar garnish on a few things at Taxi and I collected it all and spread the housemade, warm dinner rolls with wickedly creamy Belgian butter, topped with caviar! (I was taught this method by a Russian 'person' who supplied me with some beluga once). Hubby preferred to eat the caviar with the dishes it garnished!

What a vision of loveliness.. latticed Japanese mayo! I think I would have loved that dish as long as it wasn't overdone on the inside under the crust. But by the sounds of it, it wasn't?

Disappointing stuff about the 'rolls' hah? Wonder what the go was there?

Thanks for sharing this lovely meal! :D

I love the look of the ice cream terrine (so pretty!) and aburi sushi sounds fantastic. I hope your coat remained snow-white by the end of your meal too :)
