The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

OMG - I can't believe you did a review on Cheung Sing. My best friend's parents own this restaurant. Personally i think it's amazing - especially the BBQ pork and duck. And ur right, it's a fusion of vietnamese, chinese and a little of something else. My favourite is the lemongrass pork chops!!!

I have lived in Maroubra all my life and it has never really been a good place to eat out . But with the influx of people from overseas things are picking up . You can even buy duck from Coles and lots of asian vegetables are available . The asian store next to Coles also has a lot of stock . One place I have been wondering about is The Maroubra Beach Cafe , right on the beach in the pavilion . Have you ever reviewed it ?

Hi angel-Thanks so much! :) Thanks for the recommendation. I'm one of those people that prefer the Peking Duck pancakes with just skin though and less meat. I like the crispiness of the skin in the pancake-although I never say no to Peking Duck in any way, shape or form

That's Satay Delight isn't it? I wrote a story on it <a href="http://www.notquitenigella.com/2008/08/31/satay-delight-at-unsw-kensington/#comment-8734" rel="nofollow">here</a>. It's great I agree!

hey, NQN. i love all ur posts. they're great! ;)
and yes, i love cheung sing. i know one of the lady over there and they always have the best services out of all chinese restaurant that i know ;)
u should try the peking duck next time. its very unlike the regular peking duck which only consist of the crispy skin. there's a quite thick piece of meat too, which i LOVE of course :)
i haven't really try the curry puff, but i will definitely try it on my next visit

PS: there's one shop at UNSW that sells really good curry puff :)

Hi kaydee-Excellent to hear! I always worry that when I have a good experience somewhere that someone else might not. But it seems pretty consistent there for food.

Yeah I think some are definitely more helpful than others. The older lady is nice as is the older man, perhaps they are the owners.

I've only been to Billy Kwong's once and it was such a palava getting a table I've been put off going back. Pity as the food was great!

Thanks for letting me know what you thought and you're more than welcome :D

Cheung Sing the other night was fantastic. There were 4 of us and we all walked away with enough leftovers for lunch the next day! The staff were a bit odd, some were really helpful and some weren't, but they were mostly ok to modify things to my non-chili needs. We had the duck/pork plate and both were the best I have ever tasted (although I went to Billy Kwong's last night and their duck is pretty good too ;) . Ditto for the curry puffs! We unanimously voted on it as a replacement for the Dong Dong, even though it is a little further than we would usually go.
Yum, thanks for rec & review!

If you like tomato rice, you must go to Red Lantern in Surry Hills. They do the best chicken and tomato rice in the world (well, at least in Sydney ;). Not to mention all the other yummy bits.

But - tonight for me it's off to Cheung Sing. A bit futher than we usually go (Dong Dong is really the furthest I've been in a while), but am looking forward to the change.

I have to stop reading your blog, I'm running out of nights to try all the places you review!

Hi tian-I definitely eat out enough and as we were house sitting at the time, we thought we'd take advantage of the excellent eateries on Anzac Pde :) You don't like duck? Wow, I wish I didn't! I love it too much.

Tokyo is amazing! I'll start my stories on it very soon :)

Hi GG-I'm so glad that I'm not the only one! I really like it when places have their menus online (and up to date ones at that). Makes planning the meal much easier!

Hi Bubble-We found it quite good. Perhaps the food has improved? I do like it that the servings are quite generous.

Hi M-You'll be well and truly hungry for food once you walk. It might be more than half an hour though, unless you walk much faster than I do (which is likely).

I'm glad to know that I'm not alone. My husband is used to me collecting menus and reading them in bed

Aww thanks so much! :D The holiday is going great, I'll start posting about it very soon! :)

Hi grace-Do you get much of that sort of stuff where you live? I admit I got crazy over a good curry puff :)

Hi Maria-I had seen it but never ordered it until recently. This tomato rice was pretty boring and unlike the tomato rice at Dong Dong which was so good! :)
