The slightly eccentric eating and cooking adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

The Zetor was never Russian, made in Czech Republic. I don't know about the quality but zetor was the first to introduce the cabin with all glass around, so it made its contribution to tractor industry ;)

Their range nowadays: http://www.zetor.cz/article.asp?nDepartmentID=181&nArticleID=227&nLanguageID=2

Hi Lulu-Hehe perhaps it's not something for the non Finnish kiddies. I don't think Finns look at it like that, perhaps they would be horrified that we are eating kangaroos

You're welcome! :) Cloudberries are sweet and with a hard to describe taste although they have pips like a tamarillo. They are very nice though! Haha I think they do ;)

Oh my goodness, roast reindeer! Thank goodness my little girl isn't old enough yet to comment on this blog as I am sure she would cry, "Mummy, they're eating Rudolph!" :) Thanks for all your posts through Japan & Finland. I feel like I am there tasting everything with you. As always, you have accompanied all your entries with spectacular and tantilising photos! Mmmmmm. And here's a couple of questions my daughter would ask (if she could), what do cloudberries taste like? And do angels eat them?

Hi Tuulikki-Well the texture really reminded me of tamarillos with the pips. We didn't have actual cloudberries though but the syrup.

Hi maria-I admit reading the kooky descriptions enticed me to go  Couldberries are rather cloud shaped yellowy orange berries. very cute but they weren't in season when we were there :(

Oh that's not very nice for the kids! Why is it that they weren't given any fish?

Wow, how very rustic. Sounds like heaps of fun! I wonder if it would taste similar?

Hi grace-very fun indeed :) Haha I think I would exceed my baggage allowance too easily with one and what would one do with a tractor in an apartment?

that looks like such a fun place! having grown up on a farm, i rode on and drove my share of tractors, and i feel that buying one would've been a good investment for you. :)

Lol, I found this post a *scream*! For me it was original and intriguing! Loved this tractor restaurant! Those menu item descriptions were on par with some of the funniest Japanese Engrish (sic) I've ever read!!

And what's a cloudberry lol?! I'm not up to speed with my berries obviously :D

How interesting to get fish in a can at a restaurant! It fits right in though! I can remember a story my late Mum told me of how her very strict (absent and alcoholic) peasant village, blacksmith, father would eat tinned fish but the kids would never be given tinned fish.. they'd get the empty tin and would dip their bread into the leftover oil and have a feast of that. That was in Europe (Yugoslavia).

One deer-dish I remember was at a Hungarian Ball in '83. A huge old drum-come-cooking pot was used for the biggest pot of Venison Stew to feed the dancing crowd. (Red/orange Paprikas) They stirred it with a big plank of wood and it was good! I think there would be a difference between that deer and the fawn *reindeer* you had?

Thanks for this entertaining post Lorraine! :D

Cloudberries have a unique taste like nothing else and they are my favorite berries. When eating them I imagine how their warm golden colour was given as a gift from the arctic midnight sun, and it makes me happy - maybe as a memory of childhood...

Hi Carolyn-I know, it was hilarious, a real must visit. We did a few times in Finland and it was pretty good. Not very gamey at all (I am not a huge fan of strong gamey tastes). They did it especially well at Zetor which we didn't expect.

Hi Y-Haha yes it's all about country hoe-down Lone Star looking but with a unique Finnish twist. The brandy was quite strong in these cloudberries but generally they're very nice, with the syrup much like tamarillo syrup with the little tomato like pips.

What a funny restaurant. The fitout reminds me somewhat of the Lonestar restaurants here. What did the cloudberries taste like? I've always wanted to try one.
