The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

I just bought this slicer - because i wanted to try this recipe. Last week i didnt have ingredients for the slicer so used it to julienne some zucchini & carrots. It did an "okay" job, nothing more. HOwever, by then i was crazy frustrated because I'm a VERY SIMPLE person and the directions (heiroglyphs) were really doing my head it. I kid you not i stood in my kitchen for 40 minutes trying to piece together how this 'seemingly simple' 4-piece tool worked! so when it did an "okay' job on the julienning, I was not inlove. However, i've braved it again to make this recipe now and oh the slicing! OUTRAGEOUSLY GOOD! sooo fun! So now i love it. recipe is looking good - 'add garlic' was left out of step one, so i threw mine in a bit late, still on the simmer now, but i think it'll all come out fine... certainly smelling yummo!

Hi Liz-Thankyou :) Oh no, you take out the whole potato/onion/garlic/milky cream mixture and then layer it with zucchini and then you'll end up putting the whole lot including the liquid into the baking dish. I hope that helps and I hope that you like it :D

Hi, this looks so good! I'm a little confused by the directions - after you boil the potatoes/onion/cream/garlic together, the only thing you take out and layer in the dish are the potatoes? Or does it all go in? I've never seen a gratin recipe that required boiling beforehand or without the cream being poured into the baking dish so I'm not sure but I really want to try this. Thanks!
