The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

I very much enjoyed reading this restaurant review! I loved this place when I lived in Sydney and went there about once a week. I am very sorry to hear that it is gone now.

Hi Robert- oh no, that is such a shame to hear! They provided such a great service to a lot of people that relied on them. Thanks for letting us know.

How sad that this classic restaurant has now closed. Yet another iconic Sydney location that has fallen victim to over gentrification and greedy landlords. As places such as this are lost Sydney dies a slow death, as a city it is becoming more bland, soulless and corporatised every year.

Hi Blue Crane-What a great resolution! Thankyou so much! :D

Hi reddoorred-It's very eye catching indeed!

Hi grace-Knowing everything else there it was bought quite a while ago. If I come across one I'll let you know :)

Hi Marc-LOL yes the Outback only has a passing resemblance to Australia! The schnitzel was good but I still have a craving for the lamb chops!

Hi arista-You've got it in one, that's exactly what it is! :)

Hi Craig-Thankyou so much for your kind words and support! :) I admit I was a bit puzzled at the comment when I had explained it all. Again thanks :)

Hi Katie-LOL it doesn't claim to be American or New York food, nor do I claim it to be. If you read the story you'll see why it's called the New York.

Katie U - Before attempting to bring down such a positive post, perhaps you should learn to read. The food is clearly described as "Australian/English" and the name of the restaurant is also explained - with no reference to the food! Seriously, in the time it took you to write that comment, you could have just read the rveiew.

Sorry to add to her negativity, but this comment really bugged me. Great post!

This food is not actually very American or New York. Is it supposed to be? Or is this just a name?

I lived in Washington, D.C. for 9 years and went up to NYC on a regular basis. I have never found anyone in America who has made a trifle or knows what it is. It's English (The rest of my life was spent in London before I moved to Sydney 2 months ago). I have never seen beef sausages with fried red tomatoes and salad like that anywhere. Also people in America don't generally eat a lot of beets. Oxtail stew, I think, also comes from the UK and its very unAmerican because the Americans are uncomfortable with eating things with bones attached.

Sorry to rag, but you can't go thinking this is really American fare.

LOL that's kind of awesome. As a New Yorker, I can say that's about as New York, as Outback Steakhouse is Australian, but it looks like a fun place and that schnitzel pic has me craving one!
