The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

Even though we live in Woollahra, which has plenty of choice in terms of cafe's, we often take the 10 minute walk to La Gerbe D’Or for brunch and have coffee. It really is a nice reminder of what you'd find in one of the better cafe's in Europe. The food is consistently delicious. Breakfast is great and the coffee in my opinion is the best in Paddington. Today just ordered a lime meringue for a birthday this coming Friday. Their baking is to die for. We ordered a dozen mince pies for xmas and they were honestly, the best I have ever tasted.

All I have ever wanted since I have returned from three months in France is an authentic French baguette. So far I havn't found anything remotely similar in taste. Does La Gerbe D'Or sell the "real deal"? Authentic French baguettes are so scrumptuous I don't know why the whole world doesn't produce them en masse.

My daughter is tripping around Paris and Laduree macaroons are high on her "bucketlist" as she had MANY during our month vacation in Springtime 2008. I am so glad my DNA and love of all things French run in her veins, because I can gush about all things French (aka Baba in Forrest Gump with shrimp hehe). If only one of our French chefs residing in Australia could reproduce this culinary piece of genius.. I would be in heaven!

Has this changed hands? The last few times i've been there has been no Edith Piaf blasting through the speakers, no delightful french service, and the pastries are looking a tad tired. Those macarons especially varied greatly in size.
