The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

Hmm kinda sad that no photographs can be taken.

I had my birthday party at Bonta Vita and they didn't tell me there was a cake surcharge, nor did it say anywhere as restaurant policy. In the end, we were hit with an extra $60 in the bill as $3/person cake surcharge. Wasn't a very nice ending to the night...

Hi Marcello-That's interesting. I read that there is a sign in your window now that no photographs are permitted though? I don'tknow why anyone would play such a joke on either of us but I'm glad to hear that it won't be pursued. Thanks for your words about my husband.

Hi Jeff-Interesting isn't it! :) Thanks, that's all due to my husband with the very steady hand! :)

Got to admit I had more fun reading the comments. The flashlight had me cracking up because I keep one in my truck and never thought of it as a way to deal with horrible lighting in a restaurant. I am also impressed that for as bad as the lighting was your pics still turned out great. Must share you secret!!

Dear Reviewer,

It has came to my attention by a close friend of your blog, comments and “the funny email” that was sent to you which is probably from some one who wants to play a silly joke on both sides, we have not made any comments or legal threats in any way or to any one at all.
My belief is that the freedom of speech is what we live by and dies for and you have all the rights to express your own personal views in a very professional way, I actually after reading your review realized that some of your views about the restaurant should be improved and will improve. Maybe I disagree with other points but as I said it is your own views and every one look at things differently.
We have had bad reviews and good reviews on Eatability and it never worried us even though knowing that Eatability is a very popular and powerful website for food lovers, and to prove that, we still on Eatability, so if we as you all mentioned in your comments do not accept criticism, we would have taken our information off Eatability, but it is important to me as tool of improving and understanding my customers needs and expectations and for that I do respect and appreciate every feed back, because it makes be better and it make us improve.
I am sure that you might have been in the same position to be criticised for your blog or maybe your reviews, but it does not stop you from moving forward and it does not make you give up what you love doing most.
You have a talent and a great taste as I have been through your blog all afternoon today, and it is clear that you have a passion that it is beyond anyone’s doubt.
A lot of things has actually changed since your last visit to Bonta Vita as well, we have a new professional Malaysian chef who is been praised a lot for his talent.
As you also may know that we have opened our doors not long ago and it has been only 4 months since we’ve opened and we have a lot of things to improve and adjust, but I assure that it will.
I do appreciate your feed back and the time you have spent to put together such an impressive blog, but as a business man and educated person like yourself, I would rather stay away from assumptions.
I am not justifying myself or my business to you or to any one, I am only responding because of that silly email that was sent to you.
Thanks once again for your feed back and hope your husband gets better.

Hi Angela-LOL I love the way you described it re nap!

Hi SydneyGal-Yup true it is quite like a gozleme! And yes funny that they're in the Lumiere building indeed! Be careful though, you might get an email from them for commenting on the plastic plates! :P

$4 for a serve of steamed rice? That's terrible! The "rizza" (ewww, I hate this kind of fake fusion food) look like gozleme. Which I love but I can get great gozleme on plastic plates from a stall at any markets for about $5. And it will be well lit!

Oh and how ironic that in a building called Lumiere (meaning light), they didn't turn the lights on. I had lunch in a little place in Epping last week (it wasn't good, chosen by workmate) and they didn't have their lights turned on. It makes a place feel so cold and dank.

I'm not sure that I'm adventurous enough to mix Malaysian and Italian food! And if I was, I don't think I'd be visiting Bonta Vita---for a start, I like to be able to see my food, and frankly the restaurant looks dark enough to take a nap in.

Hi Emma-Haha I don't but my friend's son slipped one in her bag.Lucky that she did too!

Hi Kristi-I know, it's not nice for people to feel like they can't read a menu! Agreed :)

Thankyou for confirming the KFC thing. They didn't like that I said that! :P

What is it about these restaurants that refuse to have proper light! My mum will now not go anywhere where she can't read the menu (and fair enough!). She eats out more than I do - do these restaurants realise the potential clientele they are missing out on?

I had a friend who lived in Lumeire, it smelt like KFC too.
