The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

I was lucky enough to be at the supermarket when they were having one of their markdown/fill a bag thingy’s so was able to get nearly 1.5kg of cherries for $2.00!! I did have to pick through to find the good ones, but all were in great condition. As soon as I saw them I knew they were destined for jam! That being said I'd never made cherry jam before!
Your recipe inspired me, mainly because I'm a huge vanilla fiend.
I cut the cherries in half & after stoning them & throwing a few away I ended up with about 1.3kgs. I added about 900gms of sugar & the jamsetta. No lemon as I didn't have any on hand but added 3 vanilla beans! As I didn't have any cherry juice, I just used water. The jam turned out to be just divine. The vanilla can clearly be tasted but doesn't overpower the cherries, they just blend perfectly together! I've had so many people compliment me on it & it has even been added to a layer of my best friends wedding cake (sandwiching white & choc mud cakes together) because they loved it so much! Also fab on pancakes!
Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi! I am one of your loyal and enthusiastic followers from Canada. (Love, love, love your blog!) I was wondering if you knew of a North American alternative to Jamsetta? Thanks :)

I am glad to see there is someone out there like me! Yay, to eating jam by the spoonful! Something very greedy and satisfying about it! As for childhood ads, I remember the Monbulk one...more like a jar of fruit! The Jaffa ad plays a big part of my childhood. My parents wouls occasionally buy jaffas for saturday movie nights and we kids had to sing the song before we could have any! Its a chocolate ball with an orange coating, life's a ball with jaffas. It's a hippity-hip and a hippity-hop, life's a ball with jaffas! I dont like jaffas anyore! Wonder why?!

I have no doubt that you will have 4 great days ahead of you. A weakness for all things cherry, is easily understood. I just bought a huge bowl of them. Going back for more to try this jam. Thanks!!!
