The slightly eccentric eating, cooking and travel adventures of a Sydney girl who loves cakes, cooking, Nigella Lawson and eating. She eats, breathes and dreams food and indeed will never get cable TV as she'd quit working and watch the Food Channel all day long.

I concur wholeheartedly with Johanna about adding cocoa to the frosting. There is a great raw/vegan pudding recipe (with many, many variations) that is made up of just avocados, coconut oil, cocoa, and agave nectar. It is sinful and heavenly all at once, so there is no reason why this buttercream cannot be the same...

In our country, the Philippines, avocado is considered a fruit than a vegetable. As a fruit, we make ice cream, avocado shake, and fruit salad from it so I guess, this would appeal more to the Filipino people.

I made this tonight and agree with you that the avocado frosting is too intense ("vegetative" is the word that comes to mind) but that the chocolate cake is excellent! I would make the cake on its own and replace it with another kind of frosting, like cream cheese, or regular buttercream.

I too made this cake over the weekend, and given your thoughts about the avocado butter cream, decided to skip it and used a vanilla butter cream instead. The cake was brilliant, and exactly as you described. Crunchy on the outside and lusciously moisty on the inside. People were happily surprised with the avocado ingredient, and cake plates were practically licked clean. Even my six year old, who refuses to eat avocado if he recognises it, loved the cake. Thanks again for another fab recipe.
