Win Some Bone Suckin’ goodness!

bone suckin sauces

Now that got your attention didn’t it! A few months ago I visited the Fine Food Fair and whilst it was mostly for trade, one stand stood out to me. It’s no secret that I am a little bit obsessed with some American foods but there is one thing that bothers me and that the numbers. You know the preservatives and additives that many products have (not just American, we have them too) which appear on nutritional labels with mysterious numbers. This one stand though had a rather eye catching name in “Bone suckin’” and had a range of sauces. So I samples and sampled and dipped and dipped and then fell in food lust with them .

I also met Patrick who is the fourth generation of the Ford family who had come all the way from North Carolina to bring his sauces here. He’s full of gentlemanly Southern charm. He even offered to stow my bags for me which was a godsend given everything that I was carrying-now that’s Southern hospitality! His grandmother named it “Bone Suckin’”  as she grew up in the Great Depression where they’d love to eat food until you sucked the bones dry and these sauces were so good that they could do that.

The sauces are fat free, gluten free, presevative free, trans fat free, high fructose corn syrup free, MSG free and even Kosher. Among the first customers were Disney world and Harvey Nichols and it is aimed at the gourmet market. The Bone Suckin’ sauce was also named the #1 sauce in America by Newsweek and given an A- in health magazine as well as other accolades.

And when I explained about my blog to Patrick, he was so enthusiastic and gave me a box to give a prize to my beloved readers. So for you is this delicious prize winning selection:

1 Jar of Hot Bone Suckin’ Sauce

1 Jar of Bone Suckin’ Mustard

1 Jar of Bone Suckin’ Habanero Sauce

1 Shaker bottle of Bone Suckin’ Seasoning & Rub

Perfect for Summer BBQs :)

To win this pack all you have to do is tell me what is your favourite item to put on the BBQ. Add your entry via a comment to this story. You can enter once daily as long as your answer is different. This competition is open to Australian residents only.

***The Lucky Winner of the Bone Suckin’ sauces is: Susan B. in Sydney!***

This competition finishes midnight AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on the 30th of January, 2010.

Good Luck to everyone!

Love,

Lorraine

I don’t think I can go past a lamb cutlet on the BBQ.

Last night we ran out of gas. We were having gourmet sausages. Hubby finished them off in the oven, which seemed weird, but they worked.

Anyways. I don’t know why I just told you that last bit. But, oh well.

I hope you’re having a lovely weekend. xx

It is giveaway central here at the moment! Bone Suckin’ is a great name, though I don’t usually allow my children to leave the G off the end of words, I’d make an exception for this. I love to put chicken thighs on the BBQ. Tandoori, Thai, whatever, crunchy on the outside, succulent on the inside.

Our favorite reason to boot up the barbie is for a large pot of water, into which go yabbies by the bucket load once the water reaches rolling boil. The barbie rather than inside due to the easily controllable gas heat as well as the associated pong.

I love to serve up Thai marinated Green King Prawn skewers as a starter when having a bbq. They’re simple to make, skewered lengthways, take only minutes to cook and so easy to eat straight off the barbie or served with a chilli sauce.

  • 10. gliderguider | December 20, 2009 at 10:05 am | #

Lorraine, theres nothing quite like a few racks of ribs, smothered in bbq sauce on the BBQ to get my juices running. The lovely smokey flavour of the sauce and the ribs just stays with you for days.

Have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year.

Well here in the US we can find those sauces at any store that carries BBQ supplies.
I know I will not win since I am not an Aussie but my favorite thing to put on a grill is pork ribs with pineapple spears. The meat is always great and the pineapple carmelizes beautifully , so good to eat!

For us, any bbq food or food to be hot grilled (especially steak!) always needs a little bit of masterfoods meat tenderiser (it gives the meat so much more flavour!) and a little massage with a couple of drips of olive oil. If lamb, any quality lamb can be improved with the technique above, but also adding GFresh
Lamb and Mint seasoning (available from many IGAs) and a little more olive oil to release the flavours. Make sure you sit the meat out till it reaches room temperature as thats when the flavour building magic happens. And of course, rest the meat for a few minutes before serving, on its own clean plate, because thats how you get the lovely juicy jus! If you prep the meat earlier in the day, before taking it to the BBQ, you’re virtually guaranteeed to have soft and juicy bbq meats. Not for us the horrible bbq leather that you get from meat taken straight from the fridge and thrown straight on the hotplate! If we’re feeling decadent we use any beautiful chutneys or boutique sauces that we’ve picked up from our favourite little condiment stores in Berrima, or whereever else we’ve travelled to last, and as well as enjoying our BBQ meats, we get to relive the memories of our last holiday too!

I do not qualify for this give away as I live in California, but my husband has enjoyed Bone Suckin’ sauce on Ribs at a restaurant a few years ago here in Sacramento County, California. Chicken wings and Hot Bone Suckin’ Sauce on the BBQ would make a great meal for my husband. We will have to look for this in our area.
Merry Christmas to you and I love your Blog. A bit lost with some of the foods but you make it so interesting with your details and photos.

I think my favourite BBQ food has to be “Road Kill Chicken”. Take a whole chook and cut out the backbone with kitchen scissors. Press down on the breastbone to flatten the chicken. Rub with olive oil and sprinkle liberally with a herb and spice mixture – my favourite is basil, sage, parsley, garlic and chilli powder. Place breast side down on a hot BBQ and cook over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, turn and cook a further 15 minutes until juices in thigh run clear. The finished dish, looks a bit like road kill, hence the name.

What a great find! As someone with food allergies, I always appreciate brands that go the extra mile to cater for us!

The best thing on the bbq would have to be the chips my dad makes! Its the last thing on the bbq so they soak up the flavours of the various meats and they get nice and crunchy and arent the typical bbq fare

Bone suckin sauce! great stuff. Where I used to work in the USA we had company contests to sell Bone Suckin Sauce and we went through many bottles making up samples. (the crew did a great job selling it and we had a lot of fun) The recipe for ribs on the Bone Suckin Sauce website is fantastic, there is a video to show how it’s done. Also the dry rub sprinkled over potato chips and baked is easy and excellent. As an American living in England I found it so fun to see an American product on your Australian blog. I don’t qualify for the prize, but my fav thing on the barby is anything!

Last night I grilled big slices of eggplant, zuchinni and chunks of capsicum to make a grilled veg salad. I used garlic, lime, chilli and kecap manis for a sauce… but I think the Bone Suckin’ stuff would have given it more of an edge. :)
