I found the people to be very friendly and welcomming as guests in their country. my comments were in regards to what was in the lonely planet book in regards to bahrain, Bahrain definetly wasnt this. I agree with you that Bahrain has incredible tolerance and diverse lifestyle and I would suggest to all to visit while in the middle east. He sounds as if he deserves it, but his comment about his sister's sad situation brings it all home. Nothing beats supporting your family when they need it. I have to agree with Matilda - the waste of food sounds a bit grim given the state of many other struggling societies. 3am phone calls sounds pretty dire as well!
