MOAO Poster

Ladies and Gents, you know I do love retro and things that hark back to yesteryear. The new movie My One & Only is set in the 1950′s (how Mad Men!) and is directed by Richard Loncraine (My House in Umbria)and stars Renee Zellweger, Renee Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Kevin Bacon, Eric McCormack & Chris Noth.

MyOneAndOnlyPic2

“My One & Only is inspired by the incidents in the life of actor and Hollywood icon George Hamilton. This breezy 1950s journey follows the refined and enchanting Ann Deveraux (Renee Zellweger), who packs up her life, including two teenage sons, buys a Cadillac convertible and embarks on a cross-country trip to get away from philandering, society bandleader Dan (Kevin Bacon.) Anns goal: to find herself a new husband. Yet what this unconventional family discover is something altogether more wonderful.”

Quite happy in this decade, but I think a future decade will be even better when we throw off even more of the discrimination that people impose on others.

    The movie looks interesting :)

Personally I would’ve loved to live in the 1960s, it seemed like such a fun, carefree stage where people had the chance to express themselves. Love it how people only wore clothes made from psychedelic colours!

The 80s. Big hair, big shoulder pads and disco.

  • 4. Melle | March 13th, 2010 at 9:14 am | #

Oh this movie is on my list of must-see just for the clothes alone! The 1950′s are absolutely the best decade, can’t wait!

  • 5. Aleah | March 13th, 2010 at 9:36 am | #

I like the style of the 1940s, the hair and the clothes(but wouldn’t have really liked to live back then because of the war).

  • 6. pana matheos | March 13th, 2010 at 9:43 am | #

I loved the 80s.There was less traffic, the schools were safe.We could go for a safe walk around the block and newspaper was 40cents and you could get mixed lollies for 50cents.

Wow Just watched “My One and Only” trailer

As a baby boomer (born in 1946) I grew up in the era of convertable Cadillac’s and chrome. The fifties wre gracious and happy years Men were gentlemen ( well some of them) try finding a gentleman today some one who will open the dood of a horseless carrrage for a lady or stand for a lady when she enders a room not to mention giving up one’s seat on public transport
This movie is for me I would love to win the tickets and take my wifette (of 32 years yes we have been mariied for 32 years and that is to each other)

    Please wish me luck
    Most Cordially
    Peter Reedman

After reading Bill Bryson’s autobiography, it’d have to be 1950′s America! The thought of showing off your white goods to guests is too gorgeous..

  • 11. Lisa | March 13th, 2010 at 10:29 am | #

wow, thanks for the chance to win!

I liked the 80′s best – all that Wham and Culture club, Tshirts with “relax” logos. I think it helps a lot that I was of an age where I had no worries at all in the 80′s so I can really remember them fondly

  • 12. PeterC | March 13th, 2010 at 10:29 am | #

Definitely the 60′s – The greatest times of Elvis, The Jackson 5 and The Beatles. I would have loved to see what it was like living in the 60′s.

I’m a HUGE fan of the ‘roaring 20s’. So much so, that my 29th birthday this year, is themed ‘roaring 20s’- looking forward to using those gorgeous 20s style champagne glasses!. The clothes, the music, the style. Love it love it love it!

  • 18. Christine Barter | March 13th, 2010 at 12:18 pm | #

The early 20′s seemed like so much fun. Everyone dancing, singing, and those outrageous but glorious Parisian fashions, so very feminine.

  • 19. Fiona | March 13th, 2010 at 12:57 pm | #

I hope Peter wins….he sounds like a real gentleman! Good luck!! :) ……I would say the 50′s though too.

  • 23. Sunny | March 13th, 2010 at 2:17 pm | #

Hmm it would have to be the 1920′s. It gives me thoughts of speakeasy’s, the start of art deco, Greta Garbo & Charlie Chaplin. Basically, it was swell :D

  • 24. Jenny Gross | March 13th, 2010 at 3:29 pm | #

I love right NOW!!! My favourite chefs at my favourite restaurants or on TV, my bestest friends, my wonderful husband, my happiness in my self, all honed and toned over the preceding years leading up to the here and now. Perfect.

  • 25. Lindy | March 13th, 2010 at 3:50 pm | #

  • 28. Kerry-anne ANDREW | March 13th, 2010 at 5:12 pm | #

In the last week I have squeezed in 2 seasons of MadMen episodes and am hooked ! I need the 3rd season quick smart.

So, right now, I’d have to say the late 50′s/early 60′s is intriguing.

My parents met at the time and I think of all the glamorous photos of them at dinners and debutante balls with a tinge of sadness that the styles and occasions are so informal these days.

I think my mum will enjoy seeing this movie too :-)

  • 34. anahita | March 13th, 2010 at 7:08 pm | #

1910s….what wouldn’t I do to dress up all in black, with an Irene Castle hairstyle and dance with my beau, to a dixieland band!

  • 35. Trisha | March 13th, 2010 at 7:11 pm | #

I always think that the 90s was my decade – it was the decade of my awakening (ahem… high school years), of cheesy boybands spanning from new kids on the block all the way to backstreet boys, that girl known as britney spears, princess diana and THAT tragedy, and the year that was 1999 when we said goodbye to the Philippines and called Australia home. :)

  • 36. Patricia | March 13th, 2010 at 9:13 pm | #

Oh… I like a very long ago decade… I like the 1500′s. The castles, battles, queens. Is it ok? :)

I grew up on 80′s but I think on the 90′s I had the best time. 20 years old, starting to be independent and responsible…

  • 37. Retro | March 13th, 2010 at 10:57 pm | #

My favorite decade has to be the seventies. I was a child looking up to mum in her three-inch platform shoes and Crystal Gale hair. In the winter, I would don my faux fur coat and go ice skating while grooving to “Night Fever” by the Bee Gees. My favorite place to eat was the Chinese take-away at the mall. They made the best baked sweet soy chicken drumsticks, something my dad was almost able to replicate at home. Must have been the overnight marinading. Those were the days!

The 80s. I love the music.

  • 46. Stoo50 | March 14th, 2010 at 10:50 am | #

The ’50′s was James Dean effortlessly cool style both timeless and classic.
In just three films and a tragic accident, the man defined the modern notion of cool — disaffected, alienated, but good-hearted.

  • 47. CathyB | March 14th, 2010 at 11:00 am | #

The 60′s. Partied with the Beatles, sat on Ringo’s knee, met hubbie, raved in SOHO clubs & pubs. Champers at Henley. Those were the days.

  • 48. Anna Gomes | March 14th, 2010 at 11:09 am | #

There are few that I like. I love the 30′s the fashion looked beautiful, but there was a depression, maybe the food wouldn’t be so great.I’ve always loved the 50′s,that’s when Elvis came to be how exciting to be there.Just seemed like a simple time.If I had to choose I’d go for the 50′s,the clothes were also beautiful.

  • 49. Phunk | March 14th, 2010 at 11:38 am | #

The 60′s purely for the music not necessarily the fashion!

  • 50. Chris | March 14th, 2010 at 1:09 pm | #

Have to be the 60′s – loved the music and the carefree attitude that was abundant in all things

  • 51. SamJ | March 14th, 2010 at 2:25 pm | #

The 2010 – 2019 decade is my favourite because we can all live in the present and do our best to change the world for the better.

    Great competition, NQN.
