I love my mum’s cooking! She had to learn how very quickly when our family was posted to London. One minute she was a working mum with a home-helper (we lived in Malaysia) to suddenly being a housewife and full-time mum to two young kids!
My mum may have burnt her first steak but she progressed to making great curry puffs! To this day everyone raves about her curry puffs amongst other dishes that she cooks.

I love that she has such a gentle soul and warm heart. I just want to wrap her up and protect her from the big bad world!

I love that she is always there for me… to cheer me on when things are going well and to give me a pep talk when things aren’t so great. I’m very lucky. :)

What I love most about my mom is that she lives in Canada and I live here so we realise much more how much we really miss each other and appreciate the times we are together. When we get together we have the best times.

What I love about my Mum is that she always has a hug for me. She tells me she loves me all the time and makes me feel really special. She does get cranky when I am naughty but she will still say she loves me and give me a hug.

My Mum has passed so can I nominate my daughters as both the best mums to my grandchildren… I watch them with their children and sometimes think “I wish they’d been my Mum”. Aren’t I lucky – beautiful girls. (and the grandchildren becoming good cooks too !)

    What a fabulous competition, Lorraine!

I love my mum’s spirit of independence and adventure that she passed on to me. Unfortunately, she was a young widow in a new country with three children under the age of four. She usually worked two jobs to provide for us but always made sure we had home cooked meals and that we knew that we were loved. My mum instilled a love of reading and a healthy work ethic in us and encouraged us to do whatever we aspired to achieve. I couldn’t have chosen a better mum for anyone.

Unfortunately this is not about my own mother, but rather my good friend who is now a mother to one and another coming very soon to join their family.
What I love about her is her absolute, unrelenting patience. She knows her son will go on to good and great things in his life and makes sure that every opportunity to available to him.
I love that she challenges herself to be better and still completes her own job while being heavily pregnant. Part of her job is to ensure that other mums feel confident and happy in themselves too.
This mum is awe inspiring and motivates everyone around her to be better, try more and more importantly be happy.
I wish two things… That I had a mum like her and to one day become a mum just like her.

I love that my mum is there for me whenever I need her. She puts up with my phone calls at any hour of the day or night and I always feel better afterwards. Even though she has a lot to deal with she always has time for me!

My mum is not the usual purple rinse apron wearing mum. She can’t cook or sew but she has a love of fashion, music and art. I love her sense of style and it has come to influence my own.

I love that my mum babysits once a month so that my husband and I can get out for ‘date night’ – tonight we’re off to see Spandau Ballet and Tears for Fears (tragic 80′s kids that we are!) and the kids are off to Nan’s for a sleepover :)

  • 18. Helen | April 17th, 2010 at 10:22 am | #

Wow, you have set yourself a task! All mums are so special. How can you choose between the mums who are still doing your ironing for you at 35, or the one who babysits your kids EVERY time you ask, or the one who gives the best cuddles, or the one who makes the best cakes, the one who makes you soup when you are ill, or the one who loves you through your tantrums even if you are not 2, or the one who says all the right things when your boyfriend has left you, or the one who lends you money to get home when you’ve been traveling the world (even though she’s never left the country), or the one who always says how gorgeous you are (even when you’re having the worst hair day), or the one who ALWAYS has time to play with their kids, or the one who struggles to put food on the table, or who works two jobs to send you to a good school, or the one who stays up until 3am to pick you up from a party …… I could go on all day.
But of course I always think my mum Dottie was the best mum. She was so enthusiastic about life, not just ours but hers and anyone around her. She was creative and didn’t worry too much about the dishes in the sink. She worked hard for us in ways that were not always obvious, but she also made us stand on our own two feet. She passed away 6 years ago, but I still think of her every day -”oooh Dottie would have loved this or that”, “wouldn’t Dottie have loved to be here with us for this!”. She was a shining light for me and my siblings, as nearly all mums are for their children. I work with and have friends and relatives that are all great mums and it is all mums that deserve a Baci on mothers day!

What I love about my mum is that she was there for me to call throughout all the ups and downs of the four months of travelling I just did. It was lovely to know she was just a phone number away :)

  • 20. Ophelia | April 17th, 2010 at 10:25 am | #

I love everything about my mum – her smile, her sensible and practical outlook on life, her (self-taught) passion for great cooking, her extensive wardrobe which she has spent years building up and that I am permitted to borrow from extensively, the fact that she lets me live here and considers me an adult as I study and work, her infinite patience and ability to quietly listen – but what I love most at the moment is how yesterday she took the day off entirely to spend with me. We went on a run with our dogs, ate breakfast together, went to the best bookfair in the world together where she bought me several books, went out and bought me a wool coat (I currently have no money, hence no buying things for myself), and despite being exhausted at the end of the day, surprises me with a very rare “I love you!” at about 10pm. She rarely says it, because it never needs to be said, really. We display it to one another everyday, so why say it? I’ve always been a little sad she never said it. But the fact that she did made me so happy, and I’m still glowing inside. Basically, she’s the best mother I could ever ask for, and I doubt anyone really deserves someone as wonderful as her. But I’m not sharing.

I love my mum for thousands of reasons, but the most important one to me now is that despite suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease, my mum still remembers me.The way her her face lights up when I walk into her room is a feeling I cherish.

i love my mum for many things, but the most important one is she seems to know what im thinking and what i need before i even speak it. she thinks ahead for both me and my brother and she puts in a lot of effort as a mother. my mum also has a awesome sense of humour, no matter if your 10 or 60, she can still make you laugh and sometimes even fall to the fall laughing.

I love the selflessness of mothers universally; where they are able to do acts purely for the love of us – their children.

An example of this was in my teen years where studying Medicine, I would regularly forgo breakfast and rush out the door. One day, during a ward round I fainted in front of a terminally ill patient. From that day onwards, without me asking and without saying anything, my mother would wake a little earlier each day to make me breakfast and watch me eat it. It’s these little selfless things that only a mother does that touches your heart and endures through the years. I would love to give my mother an infinite number of baci (kisses) and notes of love to return the love she has for us.

She was there for me EVERY day when I came home from school, she had the ability with just a look to make me behave, she made THE BEST apple pie and sponge cake in the whole wide world, she cared and loved my Dad and my sister unconditionally, but I was her favourite, I just knew it! Now I have these memories and many more and I love her more and more every single day. I miss her so much.

This would be so handy for my Mum’s birthday, she loves Baci chocolates! What I love about my Mum is that she continues to stay youthful even though she’s approaching 50 – she shops and eBay’s more than I do!

I love that she has taken what her mum taught her and passed it on to me, and I in turn will pass it on to my own kids one day. Fabulous recipes, how to love unconditionally, how to be a strong woman- to name just a few things she has taught me.

My mum died six years ago and I still miss her every day.I think her greatest gift to me-and to all who knew her-was her optimistic outlook. She genuinely looked for the good in every person and situation although most would consider her life to have been neither easy nor lucky. She loved to read and often remarked how “lucky ” she was to be able to borrow library books ;she loved to cook and thought she was “lucky ” to buy reduced price items at the end of a market so that the family could have an especially good meal. This attitude permeated every aspect of her life and was, fortunately, catching .I find myself, now that I am getting older, thinking along the same lines.Lucky me, to have this “inheritance” , more precious than diamonds. I used to buy her Baci for special occasions , so this competition has really resonated with me .

What I love most about my mother is the amazing job she did raising 4 children almost all by herself because my dad was constantly overseas with his job. By the time my brother came along she had 4 kids under the age of 8, and yet she did an amazing job getting us to all our after-school activities and has never ceased to be there for us all whenever we need it. She has always thought of her children before herself, and so now that I’m an adult I like to treat her whenever I can so that she can enjoy some time just for her, she deserves so much after everything she’s done for my 3 siblings and I.

  • 34. gumby | April 17th, 2010 at 11:26 am | #

What I love about my mum is her ability to make me feel better on the worst of days, for eating everything I ever baked since I was 10 (including some really, really non-edible food, though she still cleaned off her plate) and her laugh. Everytime she laughs, I laugh. And I love that.

I love my mother’s zest for life and enjoyment of people and experiences. She’s 90, has never been able to cook, and in fact just doesn’t understand food at all, but she’s had 3 husbands and many ‘boyfriends’ – she still has one. She has always had great style and fabulous skin. Her nickname on the international ships of the 1950s was ‘the black orchid’ – she was a great traveller and in her youth tanned a dark brown. She *LOVES* chocolate.

I know I will not win since I am in the US but I had to post. I wish my mother was still alive. I lost her on Dec 31, 2003. She was a wonderful mom , she taught me to cook and sew when I was still a young child. She lived long enough to see my first grandson.

I’ve learnt to love myself now I’m a mum – due to some past happenings I’ve always struggled to like, let alone love, myself. I’ve finally made it, thanks to my daughters saying they couldn’t possibly have had a better mum! I thank them with all my heart.

It’s funny that it’s a competition for Baci chocolates and mothers – we went to Perugia (where they’re from) a few years back whilst on holiday in Tuscany. My dad had to go for dialysis whilst there and mum went with him as always. She learned to do the dialysis so he could be at home, even though she’s as squeamish as I am, and when he died a couple of years back, she has been incredibly strong (whilst being so so sad), and has never made me feel guilty for living 10,000 miles from her, or making it hard to see her grandchildren. Instead she comes to visit when she can and sends postcards to my kids EVERY week so they know Grandma loves them and remembers them even when they can’t see her.
And she taught me how to make choux pastry.
She’s lived in countries where the question was “what can I cook for my family that’s edible” rather than “what do we want for dinner”. And she always succeeded.
She’s tops, and for the first time in 6 years we’re actually going to be together for mother’s day this year! Hooray!!!!!

I love lots about my Mum but I especially love her sense of humour. I am guaranteed a giggle everytime I talk to her and to me that means a whole lot.
This Mother’s Day will be my first as a mother and I now understand what it means to be a Mum. The unconditional love is real. The amazing way your heart melts at the smallest smile. The incredible strength you have, no matter how hard things are or how tired you get, somehow there’s always enough to keep going. Chocolate definitely helps to refuel!

my mum is sitting next to me in the E.R right now, she insisted on taking me today, despite us knowng it would be a quarter of a day event. It was her bday yesty, couldn’t go to her din with dad, she wanted to not go but to take me to the hospital instead as i’m relying on pana forte to stop my pain.. She has been so worried about me and has ensured since i got sick that i’ve had everything i could possibly need. She is great and is mouth wateringly dreaming about eating a slice of her bday cake – a choc ganache cake with grand marnier ymm delish. She loves choc, i love choc, and my dad loves choc too. To win this from my dad’s and mine fave website- nqn would be ace.

I love that my mum is always so supportive and has encouraged me from a very young age to persue my love of cooking. When I was 18 I had a very bad toffee burn on my foot and had loss of feeling for quite some time and ever since then have been so petrified of cooking with anything involving hot sugar.

I recently bought Dorie Greenspan’s book – Baking from my home to yours and the florida pie immediately took my fancy. The recipe however had a somewhat appropriated italian meringue recipe. After attempting this recipe as well as 4 others, we finally got it right. After being in the kitchen until 11.30pm trying to make this meringue and me trying to conquer my sugar fears we finally did it! Needless to say the kitchen looked like an absolute mess, we burnt 2 pans, went through a kilo of caster sugar and meringue covered the kitchen, mum was on too happy to help and at the end wash up because of the beautiful cake I made! I now have conquered my fear of cooking with sugar! on’ya mum!

I love that my mum has nurtured my love of food and cooking. She has taught me that the best way to show you love them – is to cook for them.

I love that the highlight of my childhood was being able to choose ANY cake from her library of cookbooks – and it was about her creations, and not about the presents and how much was spent on them.

Thats what I want to hand down to my kids.

What I love aboout my mum is that she is brave, stoic and cheerful in the face of a degenerative neurological disorder which has totally incapacitated her. One of the many things that I love about my mum is that she never complains about what she has had to deal with in her life. My mum is the best cook – she can do or make anything, and she feeds me and all my friends. Even when we weren’t well off, I never went hungry or without something I needed and I never knew how hard life had been until I was older and she’d told me [as a child I never noticed anything because I always got what I wanted, even if it meant my parents went hungry]. So that’s why my mum’s the best

Wow what a fantastic competition! I love everything about my Mum – even her faults! She’s so giving and generous and will always see the good in people. And she wants to give back all the time – going through a nursing diploma at 52 so she can help the elderly in her small town. She also helps Dad out with the ‘people’ side of running a winery – manning the tasting counter and cooking meals for the cafe.
I couldn’t have asked for a better mother!

What I love about my mom, is that although she lives in the states and I live in Finland, she makes an effort (as do I) to stay in touch.

Cards on bad days, skyping at least once a week, even being on the phone when I delivered my son. It’s easy to get lazy when you live far away, but it’s the everyday efforts that make her remarkable.

thanks to her, although my son is 2, i leave notes for him in his room so we can find them together when he is older.

Funny enough what I love about my mum is that she’s not like a real mum. You could say she was a kid herself. Her funny addiction to the casino. when she takes me there she turns into that poular kid in school. The Free food, drinks and the staff who all know her name. It’s not like she’s completely addicted to gamberling but there’s something about the bright lights and the fake “winning bell” noises those money stealing machine gives off. I would call it tacky but she would call it heaven. I love how she cooks the most random food for herself and cook enough to eat for days (should I add we cook separate dinners). I love how the other day she yelled out at me to come and try these amazing chips & potato jems… And might I add they were the crunchiest chips & jems, amazing! Then I realized she was running in and out from the upstairs appartment back to ours, holding bowls of more chips and jems? The story was that she had traded a huge box of rice to use the upstairs mans oven, apparently his oven was ” very very good.” I second that! So lastly I thank you mum and love you for giving me my early independance.

I am so grateful that my beautiful mum is so giving and nothing is too much for her when it comes to her children. She always puts us first, even when she’s tired. She and dad gave up a lot to live in oz and she never complained once because, she knew we’d have a better life here even when knowing she had to leave family and friends behind. I am forever thankful and know how lucky I am. I always shower her with kisses, hugs, gifts and I take her out. We enjoy each other’s company and we always laugh, she’s my best friend.

my mum has left us now but she was my best friend especially once I had children of my own-she was always there with helpful advice and support and up until she died I spoke to her every week (she lived 4 hours away)and visited her or had her stay every 3 or 4 months until it got too much for her to travel. If I won I would share this prize between my daughter and daughters in law- they all love Baci chocolates

Mum, Nanna, Great Nanna and RANNA which stands for Rent a NAN – my mum has always loved, supported and raised not only her children but anyone else that didnt have a mum. Growing up, our friends that were less fortunate in the in the family department were always given a roof over there heads, a hug, full tummies of beautiful homemade food and always kind words and good advice.Even now some of our friends whose mums passed on some years ago are lucky to have our mum fill in and play that important Nanna role to their children. Not only is she patient, warm and generous beyond belief she does all this on her own as single mum. One rare indulgence for herself is chocolate so I coulnt think of a better chocolate to give her than Baci!

I love my mum because she’s tough. She was tough on me when I was growing up, she’s tough on the students that she teaches, and she’s tough on herself. Through this toughness, I learnt how much she loved me. How much she wanted me to succeed. How big her dreams were/are for me. I learnt how much her expectations mattered to me. I learnt that I could aspire to something greater than I could have ever dreamed of alone … all because of her. She taught me everything. Made me who I am, good and bad, and I celebrate her this May.

Thank you Mum. Love, love, love.

My mother loves chocolates. When she was young her father brought home chocolates every day after work. She doesn’t like vegetables much but she’s 87 years old and still lives at home . Every time I see her a quick search of the cupboards always reveals many treasures.
I love my mother because she is almost always happy, never complains and is still a good example to her children and friends.

I love my ma because she is a superwoman. She has worked as the manager of a school canteen for 21 years feeding all the hungry kids as well as taking lovely care of us growing up, being a carer for a young disabled girl and even now she still makes the best salad sandwich I’ve ever had. Even yesterday she called me with a new recipe – a divine carrot slice – Yum. She’s just a great woman!

I’m not even sure if my mum classifys as a mum, she’s way way better. $200 worth of Baci chocolate would be the perfect mother’s day gift for my mum. I already know that she’d do a happy dance when they arrived :P
I couldn’t live without my mum, I love every little thing about her :)

Unfortunately my Mum has passed away. However, I love all of the lessons she taught me that I can remember every day. For example, as a child she used to tell me that she had eyes in the back of her head so she could always see what I was up to. Now that I have my own little girls, I will certainly be using that line, whilst smiling on the inside at the memory of my Mum saying the same thing.

    BELIEVE.

I love my mum’s positive attitude to life, always looking on the bright side of things and never let any setbacks define her day.

As a victim of bullying as a kid, Mum taught me self confidence. She often said to me “When you’re down, take a deep breath, hold your head high, don’t ever let this put you down. The most important thing is – Always believe in yourself!”

Mum encouraged me to tackle my low self esteem head strong and never hold any grudge against anyone. I’ve always lived by mum’s words to this day as there are more important things to life than living it in despair.

Life is really like a box of chocolates. It has its highs and lows, sweetness and bitterness, it can be smooth sailing or tough going. Through Mum’s gift of wisdom, I embrace life with anticipation everyday, living life with hope and confidence as each moment unwraps itself – regardless of its outcome.

    Love,
    Monique

She survived a very rare and aggressive cancer 8 years ago, but is now suffering from the side effects of the intense radiotherapy she had. My mother is well, uptight, conservative, arrogant, ignorant, frustrating at times (especially on the phone, she seems to think that yelling is the only way it carries through to the other person), and says, more often then not what is on her mind, even when its not what anyone wants to hear. (A lot of people have been talking about cooking so..) She hates cooking, and when she does its the same thing over and over again. When you think about what you like in a person none of these really come to mind to any one but this is why I love her.

My brother in law lost his legs in a nasty car accident a few years ago, it was my mum who sat by his side with my sister, made frequent trips with food and for months after him being discharged, for his appointments when noone else could take him or could be bothered, mum was there. Then when i almost lost my firstborn and spent months in hospital with her deathly ill mum came, she risked her job to spend nights at my 6 months old side so i could rest, bringing meals, toys and books to kept my child and i entertained and just moral support. She was the only person i wanted by my side when i got married, and is my best friend, my rock and my idol

Oh Lorraine, you have set yourself the hardest task with THIS competition! Everybody loves their mum and thinks the world of her. No praise can be high enough, no words can describe just what a mum means to her child or what she is able to sacrifice if need be. It’s really lovely to hear so many adoring words from all your readers, there should be more of it, every day one should do or say something special for their mum and cherish them while we have them with us.
I dread the day my mum will pass :-( , it really will be the worst day of my life.
She has been the perfect role model, the best listener and can think outside of the square. A sage, she always seems to be right (annoying at times) but one thing that has always impressed me is how she has lived life always seeing the glass half full and not half empty which is such a positive way to be.
Most of all she’s my Rock!
I think that she’d love this prize, not just for the delicious Baci chocolate but when we indulge in Baci chocolates, we get excited reading the love notes as Italian is such a romantic language. Unfortunately, some of the romantic notes don’t translate well into English.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen or eaten a Baci Bar. Yummy :-)

ah, yes, i promised to write more about why my mother is amazing… And even though it is very late and i need to go to bed while the little one is letting me… I must tell you about a couple of other reasons why my mum deserves the GRAND PRIZE of chocolate…
She is super-intelligent, has a PhD in physics, worked in a plant doing welding and other stuff, was a scientific editor of a magazine for several years before we came to Sydney, she has since written a dictionary of Aussie slang with Russian translations (which I designed a cover for)… But, most importantly, SHE NEVER STOPS GROWING, she is never still in her pursuit of self-development and mental stimulation… She is the most amazing role model for me and my child, she is a walking encyclopaedia, she is an avid reader, she likes order and always wanted to be a librarian but instead did many other super-impressive jobs… I can only dream of achieving what Mum has. I am always in awe of her.

  • 146. kiska | April 18th, 2010 at 11:46 pm | #

Hmm… Just read some other entries, and many people write about cooking and other domestic talents… My mum is no domestic goddess, her strengths lie elsewhere, yet she will always have a go at making some food for my daughter and I, cleaning the floors or doing my dishes, just to give me a break… I know she HATES doing these things, and that’s why her effort is appreciated even more. She always tells me I am a better cook than she ever was, but I know she is amazing for other reasons. She doesn’t care about fashion, jewellery or make up, yet she is still feminine, beautiful and confident.

For being there for me at all times.

I asked the same question to my 10yo daughter and she said, for looking after her when she’s sick and for teaching her how to decorate cupcakes.

This comment box limits the endless list of wonders about my mum…

She is caring, kind, selfless, amazing, wonderful.

It was my birthday this weekend and on Friday night I was attacked by a terrible bout of asthma attack after asthma attack – my 70year old pulled an all nighter and cleaned the kitchen, bathroom, vacuumed and made the house sparkle, so that when I woke up I wouldn’t have to worry.

    She’s a gem!

    My mum has passed away;
    I’ll never forget her in any way;
    She was the backbone of my family;
    The most loveliest woman you would ever see;
    She had 6 of us in the house;
    We all were made to feel special, the feeling was grouse;
    She never had much, but always found enough;
    To cook dinner for any friend who was doing it tough;
    Her grandchildren used her as a special friend;
    Who they could rely on even after the end;
    My mother taught me that money isn’t everything;
She taught me to be a mother, and the unconditional love it does bring.

My “Mum” is really my Aunty. She is 90 years old, still walks down to the beach at Ettalong every day, dyes her hair blonde as she has done since I can remember, enjoys a tipple at the local club or pub , chats to everyone she meets and is just delightful. She only eats fresh foods but enjoys the odd serving of fish and chips-I think this is why she has been so healthy for so long i.e. fresh food , a little tipple and walking every day.

I love how my mum takes away the guilt from all life’s little luxuries, especially the enjoyment chocolate brings our family. Born from two choco-holics, I was never made to feel like chocolate was a bad food, but one that is to be enjoyed everyday in moderation, especially on our friday night ritual- movie, lounge and choccy!

I love te surprise packages I stil get in the post from my mum. We live in different countries now but sporadically I will receive champagne, lollies chocolate or market knick knacks from her. It’s fantastic! It’s an absolute treat, always out of the blue, that lets me know Mum is thinking of me wherever she is.

The ‘Big G’ as my siblings and I affectionately call our mum,is the most caring, generous, hard working, supportive, loving, organised and inspiring woman I know. People are often scared of turning out like their parents but if I’m half the woman my mum is them I’ll be very happy. Plus she is the most awesome cook & reponsible for my experimental pallet, thanks to waiting tables at dinner parties for friends growing up in the 70′s.

My mum is my inspiration; It is she who taught me that I can do anything, I am capable of all things and in fact it came as a bit of surprise to me in adulthood, that actually I could not do EVERYthing! However, rather than disappoint her, I maintain to this day, that yes indeed, I can do EVERYthing…just not all at once. Love my mum!

This is for my sister-in-law who has just become a grandmother for the 3rd time and is an excellent “mother substitute” for her own kids’ kids. With her own mother and husband not well, she cares for the littlies 3 mornings every week and keeps them amused with her own versions of traditional Hungarian childrens songs, she is a constant amusement for all!!

That she was not only an amazing mother to my sister and I but also to another 30ish children who came through our house via childrens services over the last 25 years. At 67 years of age, that number is still rising. Some people were just meant to be mothers, and my mother is one of those people.

To me, my mum is an ordinary woman with extraordinary resilience and determination. My brother, who is now perhaps too young to appreciate these qualities, would undoubtedly realise this when he grows up. To dad, mum is what the Chinese would call a “virtuous wife and good mother”. She always put dad, my brother and I before herself. Good food were given to us first, and any money were spent on us as a priority. To her friends, mum is a generous and down-to-earth person, perhaps also a great cook. She is someone you can always rely on and depend upon. This is why I love my mum :)

My mum can’t cook and she never had anything material to give me, but she gave me the most valuable things I possess. She taught me how to earn what you get in life, the meaning of integrity, the importance of honesty and why consistency is the most important part of the “tough but fair” approach to parenting. Her love & pride in the children she raised means more to me than anything material she could’ve given me.

This comment is for my mother in law. There are many things that I love about her. My mother passed away when I was quite small and my MIL has been there for me on many occasions when you would usually turn to your mother. She came shopping with me and helped me choose my wedding dress and she was also there through my whole labour with my oldest daughter. She’s so helpful without being pushy or interferring. She really is wonderful.

And when my asthma got bad she would rub my back and comb my hair to relax me. Evem in her busy life of a farmers wife she had all the time in the world for me. Thanks Mum. x

I appreciate and LOVE my mum so much. I dont know what I would do with out her. I have Multiple Sclerosis and my older sister has Cancer. I see my mum run around between between both our houses to make sure we are ok. She makes sure and helps me that all my house work is done and does the same for my sister. Makes sure that we are eating well and cooks great food for us. When I look at her, I see her as a Supermum. For a mother to know that both her daughters are sick, is very hard on her. She has her own health issues and we always tell her to relax. But she never will. She always puts us first. I would love to give her this Baci Chocolates for Mothers Day from both my sister and I, just to make her feel special and appreciated and LOVED!!!

I am writing this about my wife on behalf of our 3 children. Our eldest daughter has developmental delays and autism and my wife Jen has amazing perseverence and positivity in aiming to improve our daughters development. Jen puts so many people before herself – she runs a support group for less fortunate women and also cooks for less fortunate people twice a month. She also has to cook and look after me and does a fab job at that too. Jen is very supportive to other mums who have children with disabilities and often gets calls asking for help or advice. I would love for Jen to receive this gift and be spoilt for a change – our children are blessed to have a mum like her and I am very blessed to be her husband.

What I love about my mum?
A simple but possibly the most difficult question!
Is there a greater love than a mother’s love?
Is there a greater sacrifice than a mother’s sacrifice?
Are there enough words to describe my love for my mother?
    I would simply say…
My life would not be complete without her love
I would not be here without her sacrifice
And I will never meet another quite like her.

Mum and Nanna both do charity work, volunteer. They are great role models, I assist in Kung Fu instruction. Instead of Phar Lap’s heart on display in the museum it should be their ‘hearts of gold’.

    My mother,
    My angel,
    My savior.

    I love her completely,
    I miss her constantly,
    I rely on her dearly.

    She keeps me grounded,
    She never left me stranded,
Her love for me never faded.

I love her for who she is,
I love her for what she does,
    Most of all,
I love her because she is my mother.

I only discovered recently that my mother’s favourite chocolate is Baci. I felt terrible, because that’s the sort of thing you should know, especially when you have a particularly doting, caring mum who deserves being treated with Bacis daily! I love her and need to make it up to her. What do I love about her? That she has a wild quirky side, a great sense of humour and so much creativity!

When they made her, she broke the mould! She’s a pioneering spirit, tireless worker, independent and ingenious thinker. Mum isn’t scared of getting her hands dirty for a good cause or making the first move to make an ounce of difference to someone and improve the world one-baby-step-at-a-time.

My mother was a fantastic cook, brilliant sewer, knitter, and teacher and all the mundane things, but more important than that, she was a constant source of encouragement, and a true lady. She lived a double life because of a jealous stepfather, and there isn’t a person I know, that ever had a bad word to say about this Angel of a woman. She never asked for anything, and was always giving. She is to this day, my inspiration.
    Love you mum.

My Mum has taught me everything she has learnt in her lifetime. But she has also allowed me to make mistakes and is always there to pick up the pieces. She has taught me that everything that happens in life, even the bad, are learning experiances that develop you into the person you become. Focus on the postive and learn from the negative.

My mum worked hard for 25 years to pay off our house, my dad took off with someone from the internet, he lost our family home and business, cars and furniture, leaving mum with just us 5 children and our clothes at the same time her dad died and she had to go into hospital for a major operation. The last couple of years have been really tough but mum has always put us 5 children first often going without, shes never been away or out to dinner in the last few years and she always puts us first going without luxuries that a women her age takes for granted, yet she always has a smile on her face oh and did I mention shes also my carer as I have ocd and agoraphobia. She never complains and she says that she may have lost all her material possessions but she feels very rich because she has all us children and thats why I love and admire my mum.

My mother has been a good mother, even if she was a little stressed at times; but having 3 children under the age of 3, when you have been married for only 4 years, can do that.
She is definitely a fantastic grandmother, who picks up my son after school. My son loves her.
I do have concerns that she loves dark, nut chocolate, and may not share my favourite Baci chocolate with me!

*She is selfless and will go out of her way to do anything to help me
*She’s funny and cool, and gets on with everyone
*If I’m out and about with her, I seem to get lucky with men LOL
*She shows me it’s okay to ask for help & tells me I’m beautiful

What I love most about my Mum is her ability to see the good and positive in people and nearly all life situations. She believes we all need second, third and even fourth chances and that things happen to us for reasons we may not understand at the time but will if we are open to it at a later time. This makes her an incredibly positive person to be around. She has taught me everything I know about loving myself and others.

I always thought my mum is a tough person
She is the pillar of strength in our house
She took care of all of us when we are young with little or no help as my dad is constantly away for his business trip.
I remember an incident when I was 8, I was very ill with little or no will to live.
She gave me the strength to push on,
She stayed with me throughout the night
She was always there when I woke up at the middle of the night.
In fact, I don’t think she slept at all through the awful period.
She never once show her fear
She assured me daily that I will be alright
Her confidence gave me the strength to continue to push on.
One night, I woke up and caught her crying in the dark.
She was praying to god for my speedy recovery
That night I came to realize my mum is not a tough person at all.
She knew she has to be tough for all of us.
She knew she will not be able to show us she is weak
For it was her courage that kept me alive today.

Mum, the word itself sounds warm and comforting. I love my mum because she is just that, but that is not all to be said for this wonderful lady who is really like my best friend. She is inspiring, caring and there for anyone who might be in need. My mum is not an educated person
She left school at early age as she needed to work to support her family
When I was young, I always get upset at her as she is not able to help me with my school work.
When I received best students award in school, I refuse to let her come for the ceremony for fear she is not able to communicate with my teachers.
Looking back, I realize what a selfish person I have been.
So what if she is not able to speak fluent English?
So what if she cannot add 1+2+3?
Her love for me outweighs her inability to count.
Her warmth and kindness to others outweigh her inability to speak fluently.
I wish I have been more kind
I wish I have been more supportive
Most of all, I wish she knows how much I admire her!

My mum has all the qualities that I aspire to and so many more that haven’t discovered yet. She deserves to be covered in delicious tiny chocolate kisses.

    My mum’s a living legend
    Yet humble as can be,
She works so hard, gives so much
She’d even share her Baci :)

I love everything about my mum. She’s been through so much just to make sure we have the best education. Never once did she stop loving us even after all the mistakes we have made along the way.

Every year on Mother’s Day, mum and I would eat lots of chocolate and watch our favourite chick flicks. This poem is dedicated to her:

I hate the way you talk to me and the way you try to bond.
I hate the way you know I’m dating.
I hate the way you respond.
I hate your 1970s time lock, your music, your style, your views.
I hate that you can’t afford things.
I hate it when I can’t get those shoes.
I hate the way you’re always right.
I hate it when I lie.
I hate how you expect the best from me and more so when you cry.
I hate it that I’m all grown up and I can’t blame you anymore.
But mostly I hate the way I’m much like you,
I don’t hate you, not even close, not even a little bit, not even before.

I love the way that my mum does everything she can for me and my two brothers, and always puts our needs before hers. She suffers from bipolar so life is pretty stressful for her and she always has alot on her mind but if either one of us need a shoulder to cry on, she is always there for us. If we are scared or are in trouble, she’ll always help us out, even if she’s scared herself.
I also can’t help but admire the way she keeps pushing through the tough times. She has a reall lust for life and she has most certainly lived life to the full. She’s a real insperation to her whole family.
Plus she makes the best roast chicken. :)

My mum just loves cooking us great food and watching us all stuff our faces and if she believes we haven’t eaten enough, she thinks we’re ill – She’s just wonderful and so generous.

I love that my Mum rang me up today and said she had booked her car on the barge to come over and bring all her cooking trays etc to make me a roast. Nobody makes a roast like my Mum! It’s not that great for the waistline (it’s cooked in dripping the old fashioned way) but it’s so yummy that I just don’t care! *lol*

I love that as a child my mother gave me a love of crafts. She passed away when I was quite young but every time I sew or bake or (try to) knit I’m reminded of her warmth and love.

I love how after so many years in Australia, my Mum occasionally gets a word or two wrong. She organised an amazing ethnic community luncheon for over 200 people, and came over to ask my sister and me if the food tasted okay. “It’s delicious!” we assured her. “What’s it called?” Mum smiled as she informed us, “It’s veal condom-bleu!” I love my Mum – she’s warm, loving, generous, and very funny!

From stain removal advice to a hug that helps heal heartbreak, my Mum’s wisdom, love and support has been the lighthouse to stop me crashing against the rocks when times are hard. She has a wicked little sense of humour, can’t sing in key but grins while she’s doing it anyway, and wants me to be the best person I can possibly be.

  • 356. Lisa Gray | May 2nd, 2010 at 1:59 pm | #

    Through thick and thin,
    She wears a grin.

    A quick chat to mum,
    Makes any pain numb.

Even when I was an annoying teenage brat and my sisters were pretty annoying too, as well as making our school lunches everyday and home cooked meals with dessert everynight, our mum would give us choices for breakfast-even if we just had toast-she’d make it for us. I think she deserves ‘Baci’ and a whole lot more:)

  • 358. Mom2Natalie | May 2nd, 2010 at 2:28 pm | #

My mum lives overseas, so I don’t get to see her much. Although I know she is always there for me and she accept me as I am … and I love her cooking … in my eyes she is just the best cook and mum in the whole wide world.

    Whatever life threw her
Mum wasn’t afraid to have a go
    Now she’s reached mid 80s
    She’s gotten a bit slow

    One year she went snorkelling
    And nearly drowned
    And trying to ski
She just never failed to astound

    So I will finish saying
    Mum I love you
    And her response would be
    I love you too

I love my mum because shes the strongest person i know. Recently we lost my 5 yr old nephew suddenly. Everyone is breaking down, including my mum, but she still manages to be there for everyone else, and put everyone elses needs before her own. For that i love her more. I want to be able to give something back to say ‘thanks for being there for us always’. Love you Ma ♥

Mumma, the best Minister of Home Affairs,
Her family comes first, this is quite clear, on duty 365 days of the year,
    She’s a mini-mum with a maxi-mum of love,
Home is just a house without her,
She’s my father’s old china but our masterpiece,
She’s been in the ‘Housetrap’ for 24 years, such long running dedication deserves Baci Chocolate and grateful cheers,
She’s gravy stirrer, tear repairer, Jill of all trades and master carer.
    Mumma!!

Mum has been my constant guardian angel,
Always there by my bedside when I’m in danger.
She’s sacrificed her life, blood, sweat and tears,
Consistently supporting me through her eyes and ears.

No amount of words can describe how much I love my mother,
For she’s my very special soul mate like no other,
But I’m going to try anyway using NQN as my inspiration,

When it comes to my brother and I she doesnt care about anything other than us being happy. She has always told us that as long as we dont hurt anyone we should always do whatever we want to do. Today, my brother, his wife and I cooked her a 3 course mothers day feast (early) and she said the most beautiful thing to us.. such a deep expression of her love for us.. she said she hopes she lives until 120 just so that we never have to know life without her there to support us….

My Mum passed away when i was 23 she had strength, generosity and an intelligent mind. There was always someone new at the family table at Christmas (usually someone from an elderly people’s home without family)
I am now 53 and miss her every day – and just yesterday my sister told me that Mum took a boy from an orphanage and gave him shelter and food and clothes – even when Mum was struggling to feed her 5 children.
    She was amazing……

I love my mum because she is always there to support me no matter what … when I wanted to start my own business, she was there helping out with whatever she could, when I wanted to move 1200km away to be with a man I’d only known for 2 wks, she was there. No matter what, she loves me unconditionally. This will be the first time that I will be apart from my mum for mother’s day in 30 years … and I would love to spoil her even though I’m not there to share it with her.
