Dear lovelies, today I have a competition for the new movie “The Waiting City” written and directed by new Australian talent Claire McCarthy, starring Radha Mitchell, Joel Edgerton & Isabel Lucas.
The story follows an outwardly happy Australian couple who travel to India to collect their adopted baby. On arriving to Kolkata they discover that their adoption arrangements have still to be finalised. Soon the intoxicating mystic power of the city pulls them in separate directions and the vulnerability of their marriage begins to reveals itself. The Waiting City is an intimate love story of transformation. I haven’t seen it yet as the preview weekend is on the weekend Friday 9 – Sunday 11 July. The preview passes are valid nationally (Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth) at selected cinemas.

Who can forget Radha Mitchell’s very witty and dramatic performance in Woody Allen’s film Melinda and Melinda? The one liners and comic timing in this film are completely spot on. Radha’s performance in particular is hilarious (Melinda – “I’m an art historian… at least that’s what I majored in at Brandeis.”) and her screen chemistry with Will Ferrell and Chiwetel Ejiofor pairing with each of her wonderfully unique Melinda’s were magic. Melinda and Melinda is a refreshingly funny film that keeps me giggling profusely
throughout the entire movie. It’s not a typical Woody Allen masterpiece but it’s a gem of a movie “recipe” that I can always whip up to bring on a smile!

Joel Edgerton starring in Ned Kelly, also starring fellow Aussie talents like Heath Ledger and Naomi Watts. I love this Australian western, which is extremely rare nowadays. The performance is top notch throughout and the script is good (though it could have been a classic). I’ve always been fascinated by Ned Kelly. The fact that the world premiere took place only 2 blocks away from where Ned Kelly was hanged made it even more intriguing!
