In August, Sydney will host an Organic Expo and Green Show at Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour. This year’s Organic Expo & Green Show theme is ‘Paddock to Plate’ and offers the chance for us to catch cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs such as Kylie Kwong and Tobie Puttock as they show how to feed the family without blowing the budget by choosing food that is fresh, in season and produced with care.

You can wander through displays across seven natural living categories: Food & Beverage, Wine, Mother, Baby, Kids, Building, House and Garden, Health, Personal Care & Beauty, Professional Services and Fashion & Manchester with 180 exhibitors showcasing what’s fresh and best from the organic and green industry.

Kylie Kwong
The opening times for the show are:
Saturday August 21 – 10.00am-6pm
Sunday August 22 – 10.00am-5pm
But…. five lucky Not Quite Nigella readers will win a double pass to the show! For your chance to win one of these double passes all you have to do is tell me what is your favourite green thing. Is it a frog or a vegetable? Or something else altogether?
Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. The competition ends at Midnight AEST 16th August, 2010. You can enter this once daily.
**The winners are:

Wish I could go!
Hmmm my favourite green thing would have to be broccoli.
You see, I have a little bit of a broccoli obsession.
Anything I think might go with broccoli, goes with broccoli.
Pasta, pizza, cheese, chicken, rice, tomatoes, spinach, baked, roasted, toasted, grilled etcetcetc.
I don’t know how I was ever a broccoli hater, because it’s the best vegetable in the world
Great competition yet again Lorraine! I love all my vegetable greens, but my favourite green thing must be wasabi!
My favourite green thing is broccolini. Whichever farmer or scientist decided broccoli and gai-larn should marry and have this beautiful baby receives my thanks for being the obstetrician responsible for bringing such a bundle of sweet joy to the world!
Would be great to stroll through all those displays!
My favourite green is the SOCCER Field!
I like green brochilli
My favourite green thing is everything that is green
cabbage, lettuce, apples (this reminds me that it was NOTthe apple on the tree that was the temptation to adam and eve, It was the “pear” on the ground.
The curses of not living in Sydney
I think my favourite green thing is the colour of olive groves in the Umbrian Hills – a shimmering green that turns silver when the light is right. Gorgeous. Plus it means I’m on holiday..
Green treefrogs are delightful but green vegetable pasta is deliscious to eat. While 500g organic pappardelle pasta is cooking for 8 – 10 minutes in slightly salted boiling water, saute a sliced zucchini, a bunch of 3cm lengths of green asparagus, 1 green crown of broccoli cut into florets, 300g snow peas and 300g green beans top and tailed cut into halves. When all bright green in about 3 to 4 minutes add chopped green shallots and keep warm until pasta drained, keeping about 100ccs of its water (or use chicken stock). Stir into pasta with a bunch of green torn basil leaves, salt and pepper, a little water or stock, and topped with half a cup of crumbled feta cheese. Yummy green pasta dish.
For the time being, my favourite green thing is definitely avocado! I make sandwiches with them, and a smashing mexican inspired couscous and avocado salad! And as always, there are always leftovers and they get turned into smoothies!:)
Love my celery, just wash and chomp, the crispiness and juiciness cant be beaten for a wholesome and satisfying taste. But you cant really beat any fresh vegies I suppose.
A wasabi pea i love them!
My favourite green thing is compost. So easy, yet can make any soil, even hard set clay, into a workable structure!
LOVE the idea of this show, can’t wait to go
i would love my pistachio nuts! awesome green!
Dear Ms.NQN,
My favourite Green thing is jealousy. This abstract greenery often sprouts up when I’m reading your blog, and is invariably followed by me reaching for the phone and making a dinner reservation. I’m sure you’ll then agree that Jealousy ain’t such a bad thing and sometimes it’s easy being green!
Sincerely,
Taylor
My favourite green things are herbs. Even adding just a pinch can brighten up a meal considerably.
I loooooooove butter lettuce!
Grass! The smell of fresh grass being mowed on a hot summers day always brings joyous childhood memories of summer and watermelon, and beer (for dad, not me) lol.
i love all vegetables especially greens
My cat’s beautiful green lambent eyes staring at me from where she she is curled up in her basket in front of the heater.
My favourite green thing?
Chanel Jade nail polish. Limited edition, adds a flash of colour to make my pointers pretty, and, well, it’s Chanel. Enough said.

So want to go! My favourite green thing is the rolling emerald green hills of ireland.
I really wish I could go
My favourite green thing is snow peas, there so easy to eat and delicately fresh.
Japanese seaweed salad!
When I was a kid, it was a lime flavoured jelly cup. My mum would always get them for me when I came down with my eigth case of tonsilitis in a year. Even now that I’m all grown up, when I get sick, all I want is a lime flavoured jelly cup.
my all time favourite green thing is the avocado, I know of people who hate this green little wrinkly monster, but i LOVEEE it to bits, eating it on its own, adding it to salads, making it into milkshake, spreading it on toasts, so many ideas, not so many avocados at home!
it would have to be a toss-up between a rainforest and pesto. come to think of it- eating pesto in a rainforest. now that’s nirvana!
My favourite green thing would have to be durians! Gorgeous green spiky coat hiding gems of gold inside!
Hmmm, my favorite green is the colour of my lemongrass sprouting outside in my herb garden! Greens are the best, I can’t believe I hated them as a kid…

Basil – tastes great, makes beautiful green pesto and smells divine.
My favorite green thing is our backyard permaculture garden.
We have all kinds of vegetables, fruit trees, rabbits & chooks – and as I look out the back door I see a picture of different shades of green, mixed with white, purple, pink & red – all edible, organic and truly green!
My favourite green thing will have to be food, of course… and it has to be pandan chiffon cake. I’m glad I can actually make it myself, so I can bake one whenever a craving strikes.
All green organic veges and herbs, but especially peas fresh out of the garden – these never make it to the cooking pot!
I love all things GREEN whether it’s food, something environmental or simply just the colour, but if I have to say what my favourite green thing is, it would be Chinese Cabbage or Hakusai (in Japanese). I love it as you can cook it many different ways.
I love Elphaba, the green witch from Wicked. Not only did I love the show, I have this thing for all things witchy – The good kind of course. I think Elphaba’s green coloured skin is beautiful and she’s wonderfully unique.

my favourite green thing is… my bridesmaids dresses im getting made hehe =D
My favourite green thing at the moment is wasabi. You sneak a bit in, feel nothing and then BANG! Your head explodes for a second or two and then back to normal. Next bite, nothing then…!!! Or maybe I use too much?
I adore avocados. I’m pretty sure I’d eat them at every meal if I could.
I just love the concept of “green” as a philosophy underpinning everything we do – eating, drinking, living, loving in a green, sustainable and respectful way.
My favourite green thing is green shallot! Blamed my Asian heritage where you can find chopped shallots everywhere: on top of my salty thick chicken rice porridge, fried char kwe tiauw, fried noodle, inside dumpling fillings, on top of hainam chicken rice, chicken rice sauce, on top of many kind of delicious clear soup, etc.
Though I hate eating too much shallots, omitted them from shopping basket will result on me being disappointed on missing one kind of smell and flavour which is in shallot.
Buying one bunch of shallots result in wasting almost half as we can not keep them more than 5 days in fridge.
My favourite green thing is a crisp green granny smith apple x
