Win a $150 Artisan Christmas Hamper from Victor’s Food!

Hear ye hear ye! I feel like I’m Mrs Claus sometimes! Here is the second of our Twelve Days of Christmas competitions. And today I have a lovely hamper of goodies for you! Here is a hamper with a bit of a difference. In this hamper, which can sort out any sort of corporate or personal gift, this is full of hand picked artisan goodies from the NSW region. Yep artisan products, not a mass of supermarket items.

The Artisans of NSW hamper

Now I know I have a tough job as I had to taste test every one of these products and I happily did so. The slab of Rochford chocolate dotted with cocoa nibs was delectable, the award winning Crooked Creek cheese biscuits were crumbly and moreish, the Lomondo Extra Virgin olive oil was delightfully fresh and the Lakelands sun dried olives (made the proper way without any shortcuts) were of course appropriated by olive loving Mr NQN.

Then there was the delicious rhubarb and raspberry jam by The Jammery, the Honest to Goodness tamari roasted almonds which proudly proclaimed “no nasties added”, the gorgeous Nicholson wild hibiscus flowers and a lovely Cuttaway Creek raspberry sauce. And after dessert I finished off with the petit fours: chewy rich caramel bon bons from Sweetness and some amazing Leppington Farm Chocolate coated figs which had a crunchy almond in the centre. And the best thing about these apart from the taste is that when you flip the packet over and have a look at the ingredients, there are no numbers, preservatives or nasties added, just real food!

Thanks to VictorsFood, we are giving away one of these hampers worth $150 to a lucky NQN reader! For a chance to win this delicious hamper, all you have to do is tell me which item in this hamper tickles your fancy the most and and why. Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. The competition ends at Midnight AEST 5th December, 2010. You can enter this once daily. This competition is open to anyone in Australia as delivery can only be made within Australia.

***The winner is Ariel M. of Victoria***

Best of luck!

Love,

Lorraine

All you had to do was mention cocoa nibs and you had me hook, line and sinker!

Any chocolate is good, but when you add crunchy cocoa nibs it takes chocolate to a whole other level! yummmmmmmm!

How nice, it is feeling like Christmas already! What a great hamper! I loved the little cheese biscuits, they look really yummy and unlike anything commercial. Also the comment on the packaging saying “freshly made by hand with unhurried care” is such a homey sentiment it won me immediately. :)

I buy those crooked creek cheese biscuits all the time. They are absolutely fantastic and possibly responsible for my pudgy tum tum! They would be my favourite item – a wonderful balance of sharpness and saltiness makes them the perfect pre-dinner snack!

I think it would have to be the Leppington Farm Chocolate coated figs – good chocolate is amazing at the best of times but add figs to the equation and you have an unstoppable force of pleasure and delight – hopefully my pleasure and delight! :P

WOW!…You make things hard NQN, everything looks so yummy, your comments on each product add to the desire to try them all….Initially I was thinking the Lakelands sun dried olives were tickling my fancy but when I saw the Rochford chocolate my “fancy” took a flying leap and said “pick chocolate pick chocolate”…so I guess I must follow my “fancy” and say the delectable Rochford Chocolate…..

  • 14. Lauren | November 14th, 2010 at 8:46 am | #

My partner is an absolute fiend for olives (just like yours, from the sounds of it!) so I would score some major brownie points if I had some of those to share.

  • 15. Christine | November 14th, 2010 at 8:49 am | #

I’ve always wanted to try chocolate with nibs. I keep hearing about it on various food blogs but have never come across it in shops. I like the thought of having more chocolately goodness to chew on after the main part has melted sweetly away…

  • 16. rebecca | November 14th, 2010 at 8:54 am | #

My husband, like Mr NQN, would definitely steal away with the sundried olives!

  • 17. Amanda | November 14th, 2010 at 9:12 am | #

Lakelands sun dried olives – my parents have insisted I am not allowed to buy them any Chrissy presents this year (as they already have everything they need!). This may be my one opportunity to spoil them with a lovely hamper for Christmas and still remain true to their wishes. They are absolute foodie lovers and my mother having spent her school years in Rome loves all things Italian – we all love olives and have often been told we have been eating them since we were in nappies. I would love your help Lorraine to spoil them with this gorgeous Artisan hamper. Many thanks M

It all looks amazing. Real food from real producers, not full chemicals and preservatives like much of the supermarket food.

What really caught my eye were the chocolate coated figs. I’ve never tried figs with chocolate but I love figs and I love dark chocolate, so how can you go wrong?

  • 28. Tegan | November 14th, 2010 at 9:43 am | #

The dark chocolate covered oven baked figs with almonds is making my mouth water just at the thought. I love dark chocolate, love figs, love almonds, what a heavenly mix! And they’d be just the perfect nibbley for the festive season.

Lately I’ve been smelling the gorgeous aroma of fresh toast at the office (someone’s breakfast!) and secretly salivating at my desk, so the raspberry and rhubarb jam sounds DIVINE and would be the perfect excuse for me to make toast for myself! I know, I know, it’s not rocket science to make toast, but when you’re busy you get distracted…

  • 36. Leeh | November 14th, 2010 at 10:06 am | #

I didn’t enjoy them as a kid and now I can’t get enough! I only wish they were freshly available all year around. I do believe I’d like to try figs from the oven…….:)

Those figs look like I’m going to need to be hunting them down regardless of whether I win them or not! I love figs… the best are of course the ones we bring in from the inlaws in Greece…

  • 40. MaidInAustralia | November 14th, 2010 at 10:20 am | #

Oh NQN, you are so selfless, taste-testing these goodies on our behalf. For me, the Rochford chocolate would be irristable. I’m not a huge chocolate lover unless it is really good quality choccie, and it sounds like Rochford chocs are the real deal.
I’d love to win, as my big brother and his wife are hosting Christmas Day this year, and being broke, I would like to contribute something. I can just imagine their eyes lighting up if they received something like this!

  • 49. David | November 14th, 2010 at 10:52 am | #

It’s the chocolate. I love the subtle complexity or artisan chocolate and the addition of cacao nibs is perfect as they add a completely different chocolate note. Yum.

My Mum has just been diagnosed with Coeliac disease and she’s been in a bit of a pickle lately trying to find gourmet goodies which don’t contain wheat, rye, barley and oats. From the looks of the hamper it’d be perfect for her – minus the petit fours and cheese biscuits, but i’m sure i could dispose of them nicely!

Figs on their own are positively unctuous, oven baked makes them seem even more exciting but the thought of the Leppington Valley dark chocolate coated figs is the type of food dreams are made of.

The reality is, I need a reason for my family to come to me for Christmas – they think I live too far away!
I think the ‘Honest to goodness’ roasted tamari almonds are the best each way bet for my household.
My dad will come over and share them if he is not out working on the bushfires, and if no one shows up for Christmas they will certainly ‘love me back’ as the packet says !

  • 90. Ariel | November 14th, 2010 at 4:14 pm | #

    Dear Mrs Claus (a.k.a. Lorraine),

What would tickle my fancy more than the gorgeous Nicholson wild hibiscus flowers? Having just returned to ‘earth’ from my wedding and four week honeymoon in Fiji and feeling thoroughly spoilt by the Fijian’s warm hospitality and lovely hibiscus food offerings (hibiscus flower iced tea, Cassava pudding served with wild hibiscus syrup, traditional honey cakes drizzled in sweet, velvety hibiscus sauce… yum!), I’m determined to recreate that special ‘hibiscus’ food experience and share it with loved ones (who unfortunately missed out on our Fijian wedding) this Christmas. While researching your fabulous recipes at NQN, I came across your Hibiscus Flower cupcakes made with Bethonga Pineapples (March 6th, 2008). What a really creative and easy recipe, I thought. However, making the flowers has so far proven to be a very delicate and painstaking process, the end result did not look quite like your presentation (mine looked a bit burnt unfortunately). I do really admire your patience in making this gorgeous looking dessert work for the guests at Tropfest!

I hope you see the plight I’m in right now from your North Pole headquarter, and understand why I’m desperate to get my hands on the Nicholson wild hibiscus flowers for my desserts, with only less than 6 weeks to go before my lovely guests arrive. ;-)

    Warmest regards,
    Ariel

If I had to live on one of those for the rest of my life, it would be the Jammery’s strawberry and rhubarb jam. Not only do I adore the combination of rhubarb and strawberries, I am completely and utterly obsessed with all types of jams. I could literally eat it straight out of the jar…and it is having an impact on my waistline, I’m afraid. :)

  • 100. Stephanie De Santis | November 14th, 2010 at 5:10 pm | #

The Lomondo Extra Virgin Olive Oil sounds devine. A good olive oil can make a nice meal delicious. I would love to dip my Zia Grace’s home made bread in this oil, or perhaps make an oil, dried chilli, rock salt and dried oregano roll as it comes straight from the oven – heaven… Or perhaps drizzle it over a home made pasta…. Oh dear, I drifted off there for a moment, but you get what I mean.

Leppington Farm Chocolate coated figs the taste will remind me of Nana’s fig tree and all the summer fun we had and games we played with the tree as the main focus

  • 102. Chi | November 14th, 2010 at 5:16 pm | #

Oh, the EVOO would be my pick. I love dunking nice bread into it. :)

definitely the rhubarb and raspberry jam. I recently came across rhubarb jam when i was staying at a b&b in the blue mountains and have been looking everywhere for a jar of rhubarb jam to satisfy the cravings!

The Rochford Chocolate would be a treat but race to open it, my wife I must beat. I have tried Rochford Chocolates before and talk about melting in your mouth. Would definitely have to hide it from my wife.

There’s not a thing in the hamper that I wouldn’t love to try. Can’t decide between the Raspberry Sauce and the Figs.
Didn’t even know you could buy chocolate coated oven roasted figs with a crunch almond in the centre … oh, I will be searching out these. yummy yummy.

i have to say cheese biscuits are the pinnacle of sophistication for me- raspberry jam topping or not!!

  • 114. Doris | November 14th, 2010 at 6:03 pm | #

The Rochford cacao nibs chocolate, for sure! once I went to a chocolate shop (which shall remain anonymous) and the shopkeeper didn’t know what cacao nibs even were!

  • 115. Jenn | November 14th, 2010 at 6:10 pm | #

The cheese biscuits. I don’t actually enjoy cheese very much, but the crumbly texture of biscuits like these gets me every time. My sister and I used to make crackers like this when we were younger (an alison holst recipe), so there’s a good dose of nostalgia in there as well :)

  • 116. Julie | November 14th, 2010 at 6:13 pm | #

The rhubarb and raspberry jam tickles me and my Nana’s fancy because we both LOVE rhubarb especially at Christmas where we have it in trifle with custard, jam rollettes and whipped marscapone. Perhaps I could substitute this yummy jam for the stewed rhubarb! Yum! Merry Christmas!!

  • 117. sue petrie | November 14th, 2010 at 6:16 pm | #

so much in it that would tickle my taste buds but the one i would really go ape over is the The Rochford chocolate a taste of real cquality chocolate sends me into raptures

  • 123. InTolerant Chef | November 14th, 2010 at 6:47 pm | #

Oooh, rhubarb and raspberry jam! I love the old fashioned rhubarb! Our chooks used to eat all the rhubarb leaves, which are poison to people. We were always a bit too scared to eat the eggs after that!
Thank you for your selflessness in trying all the goodies. It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it!

  • 124. Amelia | November 14th, 2010 at 6:47 pm | #

I would like the Leppington Farm Chocolate coated figs the best. It brings back my youth working under the hot sun in Israel and living of what the land produced. Fresh dates and sun dried figs were a staple for me.

Then of course there is the fact that it is combined with my other most favourite delicacy: CHOCOLATE!

  • 129. Liz | November 14th, 2010 at 9:14 pm | #

My taste buds are tingling at the suggestion of Cuttaway Creek Raspberry Sauce drizzled generously over homemade vanilla ice cream.

I love, love, love food hampers in any shape and form and this one certainly has some very special treats. Oh Lorraine, this is soooooooooooo hard but I’ve decided on the Lomondo Olive oil as you can never go past a truly special olive oil and the way it enhances a dish. “On the twelth day of Christmas…….” Lalalalalalaaaaaaaaaaaaa :-)

  • 131. Wendy | November 14th, 2010 at 9:21 pm | #

Crooked Creek cheese biscuits. They sound divine and just the sort of thing for me who loves savory treats a tiny bit than the sweet ones. And cheese is a particular favourite.

Once each year I get to spend a few weeks in heaven, when my 82 year old Italian father in law brings me the most luscious figs from his garden every couple of days….who knew it could get better than that?? Figs AND chocolate…I WANT THEM NOW!!

Oooh, the item that most tickles my fancy is the oven baked, chocolate coated figs with an almond in the middle – I like the exotic, lush fig, and when paired with dark chocolate, what could be more decadent?

  • 137. Meghan | November 14th, 2010 at 10:04 pm | #

It all sounds good but the chocolate figs in particular- with nuts and figs included they really can be considered a health food right?

  • 138. Carmen | November 14th, 2010 at 10:07 pm | #

The second I read Lomondo Extra Virgin Olive Oil I thought of spaghetti with anchovies, garlic and parsley.

Ooh, I might have to go and make some now with my regular evo.

  • 139. Fred | November 14th, 2010 at 10:10 pm | #

It would have to be the Rochford chocolate with cocoa nibs. It would be worth breaking the diet for.

  • 140. Esther | November 14th, 2010 at 10:12 pm | #

Those figs covered in chocolate sound from a different world. I bet it would be the star of any X-mas party. Make sure you do not get filled up with the turkey then!

  • 141. Anna Johnston | November 14th, 2010 at 10:20 pm | #

Oh… Ohhhh…. OH! Lomondo Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

A couple of months ago I went on an Olive Oil tasting adventure, I literally consumed Olive Oils from all over Australia by the glass full.

The gorgeous chilli like spice at the back of your tongue, a mild fruity taste with a hint of pepper, the flavors & aroma – AMAZING.

I learnt that the little bit of spice is actually a sign that the oil has been freshly produced, and hasn’t been sitting on a shelf for years. :) Oh yes…. Just divine!

The Lomondo was ‘Hands Down – Bottoms Up’…. THE WINNER!

  • 142. LaLa | November 14th, 2010 at 10:49 pm | #

Oh yummo! It would have to be the Crooked Creek cheese biccies, and if I won it my 86 year old Grandma who I am seeing at Chrissy would love the chocolate! Great prize NQN!

I’m very interested in trying the extra virgin olive oil, as I’ve been looking for a local one that has a sharp peppery flavour that meets up to my favourite Chilean olive oil.

  • 151. Kevin | November 15th, 2010 at 6:23 am | #

The oven baked figs, its hard to get good tasting ones, and with Christmas coming Im expecting to put on more weight so, may as well start a bit earlier

  • 152. Adrian Reid | November 15th, 2010 at 7:58 am | #

I’m thinking the Rochford chocolate looks awesome but i’m going to go with the Rasberry sauce as i am already formulating a duck recipe for it.

  • 153. Vicki | November 15th, 2010 at 8:01 am | #

I’d really dig the chocolate figs,
and the rasberry sauce, I could eat like a horse,
    the biscuits from Crooked Creek
    give my tastebuds a tweak
and the Olive oil really sparks my ignition coil,
but the Caramel Bonbons, will be delightful finish upon

  • 154. Lindaf | November 15th, 2010 at 8:17 am | #

WOW, so many comments already! My choice would be the chocolate figs, I think it would be an absolute taste sensation, and one that I would never have thought of ! I am partial to the cheese biscuits though as well, they do look VERY delectable and think the whole bag could be consumed without much trouble in one sitting with a cold glass of unoaked chardonnay !

I think for me the Crooked Creek Cheese.
When it comes to cheese I’m easy to please.
    Then again,oven baked figs, chocolate coated;
I could devour the lot & not feel bloated.
    Lakeland Olives, Lomondo oil;
I really feel I could have it all.
    So dear (NQ)Nigella, I feel ’tis me you should pamper;
I would love to take delivery of this wonderful hamper!

I probably will choose the rhubarb and raspberry jam by The Jammery. My father in law loves jam and I’ve been buying him different type and brands from around sydney. So far the review was pretty average. I wonder if the Jammery will get a rave review :D

  • 171. Lou | November 15th, 2010 at 11:01 am | #

Oh, seriously, it has to be the choc almond figs… chocolaty gooey fruity nutty yumminess, that not only tastes delish, but good for you too….eat more..!

  • 172. Ellen | November 15th, 2010 at 11:18 am | #

I would choose the Cuttaway Creek raspberry sauce. Raspberries are my favourite fruit, but the season is so short that you need to have other forms of the delectable berry throughout the year, and this sauce would do it for me. My other reason for wanting it is that I was in hospital for the whole of October and was not able to eat for a month apart from IV fed calories, and even now my diet is restricted. The upside is I lost 12kg, and now I have been told to eat high calorie, high protein and fat food, and ice-cream with raspberry sauce would fit the bill nicely!! Yum.

  • 174. Patch | November 15th, 2010 at 12:16 pm | #

Oooh so much to choose from, I can’t pick a favourite but my top 3 are the tamari roasted almonds as the flavours and roasted goodness are a quick healthy snack; the Leppington Farm Chocolate coated figs with almond in the middle sounds so different I’d love to try it and the picture of the Rochford chocolate has me sold in a heartbeat. Chocolate is running through my veins, need it to survive and get through the day!! That rochford slab looks divine and good enough to die for … so that’s my choice.

This hamper would be perfect for me to take to Mum and Dad’s for under the tree. I always bring a basket of goodies and Mum always “forces” us to take something home with us… It’s kinda the gift I give myself. We always end up fighting over the cheeses and olives – so I’d have to say the fight would be for the Lakelands Sun-dried Olives if I win this one…
    Thanks Lorraine
    -xx-

My family spends so much time making everything from scratch because when you buy something from a packet it’s always got so many nasties in them! But making everything from scratch can be so time consuming so it would be wonderful to grow our knowledge of products that are made with love and taste good and aren’t filled with hidden evil ingredients! The Choc coated figs sound amazing! and I think they would be extra good being made with such dedication to quality!

  • 181. Dan | November 15th, 2010 at 12:42 pm | #

You had me at Dark Chocolate coated figs. Not only due to the fact that roasted fruits and chocolate are my current weakness but also so I can think of different ways to eat them! On their own for pop-in-your-mouth deliciousness, slightly melted and topped with icecream,at room temperature with some nice smelly cheese, stuffed inside a chicken breast with some brie… (I love mixing sweet with savoury)… the possibilities are endless!

  • 182. Leah | November 15th, 2010 at 12:45 pm | #

I really don’t think I can go past the oven-baked chocolate covered figs. I just drooled all over my keyboard. I love these sort of hampers – love the fact that the products are Australian and unusual.

  • 184. leoniej | November 15th, 2010 at 1:07 pm | #

You had me at the first item: the chocolate slab with cocoa-nibs is the most appealing by a long shot. Chocolate (and it does look lovely and dark) with a lovely crunchy texture – what more could you ask for?

  • 185. Tenina | November 15th, 2010 at 1:15 pm | #

    Whats not to love here??
Chocolate with nibs…hmmn, but I think I go for the additive free figs, with little almonds…hello heaven!

Rhubarb and raspberry jam for sure! And because jam is one product that is absolutely always better in an artisan version. So many brilliant ways I could use the jam. Maybe cute Christmas present butter cockies with jam splodges in the center!

  • 189. nuta | November 15th, 2010 at 1:59 pm | #

I’d most like to savour the Jammery Rhubarb & Raspberry Jam.

  • 190. Wrinkle Free Rovers | November 15th, 2010 at 2:05 pm | #

Mmmm Lorraine – what a lovely time you must have had sampling those goodies!

It’s the rhubarb and raspberry jam that most appeals to me. I can imagine N and I as we wind our way to Melbourne for Christmas, camped somewhere overlooking the water, drinking tea and eating fresh bread with that delicious jam – divine!

  • 191. Sarah | November 15th, 2010 at 2:16 pm | #

Hmmm – it would be a toss up between the chocolate and the rhubarb and raspberry jam…

While I do love me some chocolate, I am a sucker for all things raspberry…

Since my partner became a vegetarian – who does not eat fruit or, indeed, vegetables – I have never enjoyed so many cheeses! He is a cheese-i-vore and I have become a cheese connoisseur. Yet I have never tried the Crooked Creek cheese biscuits. I would very much like to, but most of all I would love to add another item to the list of foods that he will gladly eat. It is Christmas, so I shall spoil him and respect his dietary dogma. And, you never know, looking at all the other wonderful ingredients in this luscious hamper I may be able to convert him to a number of other foods he has never dreamed of tasting. Such an arduous task introducing him to them one by one, but it is the season of love and goodwill is it not?

I am a breakfast fiend. Love toast and Jam, so the rubarb and rasberry jam sounds just up my alley. Plus, I’ve never tasted that combination before.

Lakelands sun dried olives, the mere thought of these is taking me back to my youth, with Mum & Nonna drying olives. To this day no commercial products have even come close, and it’s tickling my fancy with enormous hope that these will hit the spot. Fingers crossed, I desperately need to try these now.

OMG, choosing is the stuff nightmares are made of!!! (this is why i can’t go near markets if i’m low on cash, no self control darn it…)

Ummm the Choc coated baked figs look awesome though, mum used to get us something similar when we were kids and i loved them – we used to “steal” them from the kitchen as a snack when she wasn’t looking lol!

  • 215. Pris | November 16th, 2010 at 9:33 am | #

I’ll take the choc coated figs with almonds! Dark chocolate is filled with antioxidants, figs are a great source of fibre and almonds are high in protien and lower cholesterol levels. Who ever thought so many health benefits could be wrapped in such a deliciously devilish package?

Such a versatile ingredient for both savoury and sweet.
From a smear on cheese, as part of salad vinegar dressing, use instead of cranberry sauce, to a sprinkling on trifle or pavlova – what a treat!

  • 243. Troy Bakes | November 18th, 2010 at 12:27 pm | #

The Raspberry Dessert Sauce excites me most as I fancy having a different twist for rosemary-thyme grilled chicken instead of the boring gravy. This dessert sauce could also be a gourmet chicken side dip by adding a half cup of the raspberry and mixing in a jalapeno or green chilli chopped into bits. Now, THAT’s a fancy-tickling twist!

  • 244. Jennifer B | November 18th, 2010 at 11:18 pm | #

It’s very hard to pick just one product from a range of gourmet goods that are made by local people with a passion and obvious love of good food. While the chocolate is tempting, I would have to choose the Olive Oil as I love to cook with quality products and Olive Oil features daily in my cooking fare. It’s particularly tasty used as a dipping oil for some very freshly made bread.

The figs sound particularly wonderful – three of my favourite ingredients, all in one!! I’ve been on a bit of a muesli-making kick lately, so I’m imagining cutting them up and mixing them in — nothing like a bit of figgy, nutty, chocolatey goodness to start the day!

The caramel bonbons are also sounding pretty damn good to me right now (can you tell I’m on a mid-afternoon sugar-low?! :p)… certainly wouldn’t say no to them in my muesli, too!!

One of my Mt. Everest recipes is vanilla souffle with raspberry sauce, but it’s sooooo tricky for me. The Cuttaway Creek raspberry sauce is divinely preservative free and might simplify my job….i.e. I would only have the souffle to conquer. Please take pity on me….I’m still working on my multi-tasking!skills!
