Win 1 of 4 copies of Delicious. More Please The Cookbook!

Delicious magazine needs no introduction. It’s a gorgeous magazine full of the best to do with contemporary Australian food (and one that was kind enough to include me in their list of top blogs!). I am a long time reader salivating and poring over their pages imagining making all of the goodies contained within. Delicious magazine also has cookbooks and their latest one is called “Delicious. More Please” with 120 brand new recipes written by the recipe writing whiz Valli Little.

Almond parfait

The recipes are split up into the four seasons so that you can follow what is available in the season you are in. The food is all Modern Australian which means that there’s a bit of France (heirloom tomato tarte fine), a bit of China (Asian style caprese salad), a bit of Italy (beef carpaccio with strawberry vincotto) etc. with Thai, Japanese, Greek, British, Moroccan, South Africa, Vietnamese, Indian and native Australian influenced recipes. Plus I must mention that there is most delicious looking almond parfait, chocolate hazelnut tart and lavender friands (well you knew I was eyeing off the desserts right?). The other thing that I like about the Delicious books is that every single recipe gets a full page full colour photo, styled in that signature Delicious style-now if that doesn’t define food porn I don’t know what does. There are also menus for themed parties for occasions where they select an entree, main and dessert from the book should you wish to be guided.

Thanks to the lovely people at Harper Collins and ABC Books, four lucky Not Quite Nigella readers will each win a copy of Delicious. More Please (RRP $39.95)! For a chance to win a copy of Delicious. More Please by Valli Little all you have to do is tell me which season you like the best for food and why! Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. The competition ends at Midnight AEST 6th March, 2011. You can enter this  competition once daily. Delivery is within Australia only as the winged monkeys get all puffed out otherwise.

***The winners are:

Joanne F. of S.A.

Connie K. of NSW

Juliette B. of Vic

I’d die. I would just die.

First, because I’ve never won anything, and secondly, well, because this is the first time I’ve ever entered a giveaway! :)

In any event, I’d have to say Autumn is my favorite season. The warm fall colors, textures, and smells always impel me to quickstep into the kitchen for a baking marathon.

    Thank you Lorraine!
    Good luck to everyone!

Wow that parfait does look delicious.
I love summer for it’s stone fruits.

  • 5. Jasmin | February 5th, 2011 at 6:28 am | #

    Hi Lorraine,
Definitely summer for the range of juicy fruits available. Not only because I’m allergic to apples and pears so there’s a scarcity of fruit during the rest of the year. But the plump juicy cherries at the beginning of summer, then luscious Kensington Pride mangoes, then tender white peaches and nectarines and a flourish of Victorian berries. Mmmm…

  • 6. Kristy | February 5th, 2011 at 6:53 am | #

Summer is definitely my favourite season due to all the delicious fruit varieties available. Stone fruits like nectarines are definitely my favourite and they’re perfect for chilled summer desserts.

  • 7. Bubble and Sweet | February 5th, 2011 at 7:00 am | #

Summer. Cherries, peaches, figs, oysters au natural and prawns for dinner because it’s too hot to cook, nectarines, plums and mangoes, BBQ’s and picnics at the park. Yes definitely Summer.

  • 8. Rocky Mountain Woman | February 5th, 2011 at 7:17 am | #

I certainly wouldn’t want those winged monkeys to have to fly all the way to the USA, but I had to tell you that those folks obviously are wicked intelligent if they included you in the best blogs list…

    go girl!!!

Ok, please excuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard!
My Darling Hubby bought me a signed copy of “Quick Smart Cook” for Christmas 2009, I would do a happy dance to have another signed Delicious cookbook to add to the collection!
As for season, I love winter cooking – roast dinners, beef bourguignon, mashed potato dripping with butter, Sticky Date pudding, molton chocolate hotopots… All that delicious calorie-laden food you could ONLY eat in winter when you NEED an extra layer of fat to keep you warm! ;)

  • 20. KirstyS | February 5th, 2011 at 9:27 am | #

Winter – all those lovely casseroles and things like beef stroganoff… oh, and soups… yummy, hearty soups. The fact you can hide your winter weight with some creative layering helps too…

  • 21. Elaine | February 5th, 2011 at 9:28 am | #

Give me winter any day … steak and kidney pie with buttery mash potatoes and green beans, followed by warm sticky date pud and cream. A few friends, an open fire, lots of red wine and the sound of the rain outside – heaven!

  • 22. Anne | February 5th, 2011 at 9:29 am | #

Winter is my favourite season. It’s a time to get such pleasure from the warming nurturing comfort foods such as slow cooked meats, soups and warm puddings. Time to wrap yourself up with food and love. After a long day nothing beats opening the door to the aroma of lamb shanks in the slow cooker.

  • 23. Michelle | February 5th, 2011 at 9:30 am | #

I love Delicious magazine. The pictures are always so tempting. I can never resist buying the latest magazine as I pass the newsagents.

My favourite season is Summer, for the mangos and stone fruits. I also love a good seafood BBQ with big salads topped with berries and nuts. Ahhh Summer, although this heat wave is stretching the friendship slightly!

  • 24. Jacqui Lagaluga | February 5th, 2011 at 9:31 am | #

Winter brings the delight of rich comfort foods, tender slow cooked meats, fruit pies and flans topped with custard or cream and I spend more time in the kitchen due to the cooler weather outdoors!

  • 25. Stefania | February 5th, 2011 at 9:32 am | #

Autumn is my favourite the colours outside reflect my interiors perfectly and the food available is sumptous without being heavy. Nothing better than a gorgeous Sunday in the mountains followed by a beautiful roast dinner prepared at home! Warmth of the sun on a cool day and the warmth of the oven on a cool night!

  • 26. Felice | February 5th, 2011 at 9:35 am | #

I love delicious magazine and the cookbooks they have produced. My favorite season is definitely autumn. I love that it is starting to cool down, and you can really get into the kitchen again and cook without melting.

I wouldn’t want those poor little winged monkeys to fall from the sky so I have a local address for them.

  • 27. Lyn | February 5th, 2011 at 9:38 am | #

Love Delicious and cooking every season! All year … cooking, eating, cooking; as the seasons change and different fruit and veg appear at the markets it’s a never-ending delight to be a food-lover.

  • 28. Megan | February 5th, 2011 at 9:39 am | #

Summer – just because of white peaches. I could raphsodize about all the other stone fruit, the mangoes and berries – but really Summer, you had me at white peaches.

  • 29. Louise | February 5th, 2011 at 9:41 am | #

I think I love summer the most – not only for the food, but for the fact that it so wonderful to be able to eat outside so easily and so late into the evening :)

  • 30. Christine | February 5th, 2011 at 9:41 am | #

I bought this book as a gift for my neice at Christmas, and was sooo tempted to keep it for myself – I would love a copy of my own!

Winter is my favourite season – The cooler weather and mood of winter is so conducive to putting more time into creating meals for my family and friends. Thank you x

  • 31. Moodie Foodie | February 5th, 2011 at 9:42 am | #

Give me winter ANYTIME! I’m all about comfort food and you can’t beat winter for that: casseroles, stews, garlic mash, slow roasted lamb shanks, roasts, curries, lasagne, hot fudge pudding, apple pies…… I could go on forever.

  • 32. Debra Kolkka | February 5th, 2011 at 9:56 am | #

I love autumn here in Italy, with the porcini mushrooms, delicious figs and truffles.

  • 33. Juliette | February 5th, 2011 at 9:59 am | #

Spring is my favourite season. It’s filled with the smell of freshness every morning when I rise to the sounds of chirping birds and the gorgeous views of my vegetable garden. Those lovely herbs and rows of green veggies are a sight to behold, and the colourful flowers add a touch of inspiration to my daily recipes. The spring onions, leeks and potatoes grow in abundance in Spring, which gives plenty of opportunities to cook vegetarian soups and dishes, like potato and leek soups, mixed veggie salads with Asian dressings, and the best of them all, onion rings and sweet potato chips! Most importantly, Spring is the best time to lose those extra pounds with lots of walking in the beautiful parks and gardens, or indulge in my DIY vegetable gardens everyday so I get to enjoy the fruits of my labor at the end of the day :-)

Thanks Lorraine, your website looks gorgeous and those lovely desserts at the top are arresting!

    Lots of love
    Juliette

Mine is winter I feel I can indulge as I don’t have to wear a swimming costume.Food is more comforting in winter with the cold weather ,I tend to spend more time cooking in the kitchen and trying new recipes than in the warmer months.

  • 35. Wendy | February 5th, 2011 at 10:05 am | #

Summer for me too. Raspberries and strawberries flourish in my garden- delicious. With Tassie’s short growing season it’s the best time for beans, corn, tomatoes…Going for a snack in the garden is great!

  • 36. Jackie | February 5th, 2011 at 10:14 am | #

Summer is my favourite season for sure! Summer evenings on the patio, still able to enjoy the sunshine whilst eating all those luscious fruits with juices dripping down the arms – bring on the mangoes, peaches and cherries!

  • 37. sally | February 5th, 2011 at 10:15 am | #

Looks like a great book Lorraine. Spring is the time for me – Asparagus, asparagus and more asparagus, baked, grilled, steamed, pureed, BBQ’d. I love it.

  • 38. Julia | February 5th, 2011 at 10:17 am | #

I would have to say winter, especially after spending a winter in Europe! There’s something about slowly cooking a feast to warm you from inside that I love!

  • 39. jess | February 5th, 2011 at 10:28 am | #

I love summer! Mainly because fruit is sweetest in summer and I get to eat my favourite seasonal fruits such as mangoes, lychees, cherries, peaches and papayas! All of them make fantastic desserts!

  • 40. Khang | February 5th, 2011 at 10:33 am | #

Hey Lorraine. I REAAALLY love the winter season. I can have great hearty meals and its a great opportunity for me to help my sisters out in the kitchen as they are always cooking in the winter. I love winter meals. They are so fulfilling and delicious. Its a great time to cook meals like Roast Beef or Curries. Its also a great time to go eat outside. The thing i love about winter is that you keep on eating more and more and more and more and you dont get sick of it as easily as you would in summer. Its also a great tiem for baking as the oven keeps the kitchen warm. xD

  • 41. CathyB | February 5th, 2011 at 10:33 am | #

Winter for using my own garden produce:- beef and vegetable stew, butternut squash pasta, sausage and cabbage risotto, leek and potato soup, potato and celeriac mash, pumpkin pie, carrot cake, rhubarb and pear crumble to name just a few. All just delicious and inner warming in the winter cold of Canberra.

  • 42. Jess | February 5th, 2011 at 10:38 am | #

Winter – because i can eat nice heavy rich meals and hide all the extra kg I put on without a problem :)

  • 43. MaidInAustralia | February 5th, 2011 at 10:38 am | #

Oh definitely summer. Salads, fruits, seafood, bbqs and alfresco dining.

  • 44. Amanda | February 5th, 2011 at 10:44 am | #

I love Delicious! And Summer is my favourite culinary season – for the sparkling freshness of the seafood, salads, mangoes and blueberries. Light, refreshing, perfect!

  • 45. Melly | February 5th, 2011 at 10:46 am | #

I love change to seasonal spring food; just coming out of winter so you still have an excuse to make pot roasts & slow cooked lamb shanks, but then the fresh green produce becomes more readily available and you get sugar snap peas (fresh pea & asparagus salad!), fat zucchini (carrot & zucchini frittas), radishes, leeks (leek pumpkin & brie tart!) and the new season lamb arrives….it’s the change of the season that gets me inspired in the kitchen!!!

  • 46. angie | February 5th, 2011 at 11:05 am | #

It’s gotta be spring – all those luscious mangoes… yum

  • 47. Asha | February 5th, 2011 at 11:17 am | #

I’d have to say that winter would be my favourite. It lends itself perfectly to my favourite pastime, baking. Oooy, gooy, decadent desserts; warm, soft cookies; fresh, steaming bread and the whole house warmed not by the heater, but by the oven.

  • 48. LindaF | February 5th, 2011 at 11:36 am | #

I have to confess I love WINTER, as it gives me the freedom to create and cook to my hearts content the family dessert favourites of the old fashioned lemon self saucing pudding for starters, and the ever favorite chocolate/coffee self saucing pudding that they cannot get enough of, and of which i have to double the recipe so there are leftovers the next day for them all; apple cobbler, lemon meringue pie; fried strawberries, oh yes, it has to be winter for sure !! ;)

  • 49. Tracey Tanous | February 5th, 2011 at 11:42 am | #

Choosing a season is like trying to choose which child is your favourite. Every season has its special produce available and all are enjoyed with gusto…

  • 50. Sophie | February 5th, 2011 at 11:51 am | #

My favourite season for food is definitely winter. I adore soups with crusty bread, the smell of slow cookers doing their thing all day, making me so excited for dinner as whatever is going on in the slow cooker smells so good.
I also love winter desserts, such as hot custard, fruit crumbles and fruit pies.
I love how the food in Winter is so warming and comforting.

  • 51. wendy | February 5th, 2011 at 11:52 am | #

i choose summer for the beautiful fruit especially cherries and watermelon. Oh and seafood…YUM! Not much cooking involved but that is the secret to seasonal food.

  • 52. Jody J | February 5th, 2011 at 11:53 am | #

For the variety of luscious fresh food, summer is a favourite. However, being in tropical QLD, its always so hard to cook up a storm in the kitchen without dying from the eat. So I would have to say winter from a purely comfort perspective!

  • 53. Maryann | February 5th, 2011 at 11:58 am | #

I hate the summer heat but cherries, peaches, nectarines and melons are divine at this time of year and I am loving salads with fish and herbs at the moment. Fish & chips on the beach just isn’t the same in winter either – and lets face it, you can eat chocolate ANY season!

  • 54. CARMEN | February 5th, 2011 at 11:58 am | #

I LOVE ALL SEASON -EVERY SEASON HAS ITS ABUNDENCE OF PRODUCE,WHERE YOU NEVER RUN OUT OF IDEAS.AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE IS THE BEST.

  • 55. EHA | February 5th, 2011 at 12:24 pm | #

I agree with Juliette and Melly – how can anyone go past spring? Besides the increasing temperatures, longer days and balmy breezes (quite boisterous hereabouts!)this IS the season of the “A”s – asparagus and artichokes! I could quite happily live awhile on just those two! What beautiful, elegant flavours – and so good for the waistline one wants to get into the last season’s swmisuit!

And my apricot weeping rose goes mad and the multicoloured pansies run riot and all my old/new herb plants peek out from their pots and say: ‘can we come out now?’

Oops – I LOVE sugar snap peas and absolutely go bananas re leeks!! (that sounds funny, doesn’t it?)

  • 56. Milo | February 5th, 2011 at 12:33 pm | #

Winter for me… always… the smell of a baking roast, curling up on the couch with a bowl of something hot, yummy and satisfying… best time of year.

  • 59. shemyla | February 5th, 2011 at 1:04 pm | #

It would definatley be winter! All that slow cooking, warms up the house and then warms up the body and soul when you eat it. NOthing but total satisfaction by the end of the meal. Plus, loads of the slow cooked meals can be frozen and had at a later time if one is running short of time on another day

  • 60. The Food Mentalist | February 5th, 2011 at 1:10 pm | #

I love winter because it’s pleasant cooking when it’s not hot, roasts, stews and sticky hot puddings are so enjoyable during the colder months

  • 61. jl | February 5th, 2011 at 1:11 pm | #

It seems so far away at the moment with the heat wave we’re having right now.

I love winter, not only is it my favourite time of the year but I love eating soups, casseroles and other foods that make you feel warm.

This cookbook embraces a number of different cultures and I love trying food from other countries. I love cookbooks and the recipes sound delicious.

  • 65. Jodie | February 5th, 2011 at 1:39 pm | #

It’s a tough choice, as I think all seasons have much to offer but I think I will have to vote for Spring. The weather is still cool enough to enjoy heartier style dishes, but the first delicious spears of asparagus are starting to emerge and there is so much anticipation of new growth and new life, it’s just a joyous time of year, all the better to enjoy a great meal.

  • 66. Jen | February 5th, 2011 at 1:43 pm | #

I love all the comfort food of winter and I also like that I can turn the oven on to bake yummy desserts. I just can’t in this heat!

  • 69. InTolerantChef | February 5th, 2011 at 2:04 pm | #

I gave this book as gifts for Christmas, but not got it myself yet! I love autumn as it’s got the lot. Residual heat from Summer, the cooler days reminiscant of Spring, the chill in the night of Winter, and of course in Canberra the colour change of the leaves and sky with the mellowness of Fall.

  • 70. Margaret Bird | February 5th, 2011 at 2:18 pm | #

Spring for me is the best food season. After heavy winter food I wait in anticipation for beautiful flavoursome spring lamb, gorgeous fresh asparagus and then late spring brings the wonderful gift of the first pick strawberries. What’s not to love.

with this many people having entered already, i know i have no chance, i enter all your competitions and never win… But, in any case, i love AUTUMN, for the vegies – I bake them and make lovely soups. I always loved autumn in general, long time before i came to australia. The air, the colours, the poetic mood. Thanks for the chance to win this gorgeous book anyway, Lorraine.

  • 74. Dee | February 5th, 2011 at 2:39 pm | #

I’d go with Winter. With all the warm, comfort food and grandma’s recipies coming out! Even speciality sri lankan winter food like Bredhure, traditionally a sweet bread introduced by the portugese! yummers! :) :)

  • 75. Clare | February 5th, 2011 at 2:41 pm | #

Winter! If it involves putting the oven on, I’m a happy girl. It’s too hot for oven-baked foods in summer, and I never know what to make.

  • 76. Mary Preston | February 5th, 2011 at 2:45 pm | #

Summer brings with it all the Tropical Fruit and Stone Fruit. I could become a ‘fruitarian’ very easily in the hot months.

  • 77. lisa | February 5th, 2011 at 2:52 pm | #

I love the autumn and winter seasons especially when the chestnuts come out and the smell of open fire is in the air. Chestnuts are so versatile for savoury and desserts and just to eat like that freshly roasted in front of the fire and sharing with friends. They are also gluten free, a real asset for people who are restricted with their diets. Roll on autumn.

  • 78. Jacki | February 5th, 2011 at 2:54 pm | #

Summer is the best. Some people stop off at the shops on their way home to get ingredients for dinner ! I go to my mum’s garden. In one foul swoop I can gather ingredients like tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini and fresh basil to make a beautiful Pepperonata (Ratatouille).

i must say that there isn’t really one season that is my favourite. i love summer for the simple food that you can get away with cooking (or not cooking in some cases) and all the wonderful fruit. but for cooking some of my favourite meals it would def have to be late autumn to early spring and winter so that its not too hot to get into the kitchen and use the oven and stove without being reduced to a red faced sweaty beast who snaps at anyone who dares comes near me. its the heat i swear :)

I love summer because you can get outside on the bbq, fresh breeze blowing, kids playing in the pool until dinner time. Fresh salads, fresh herbs, hot chilli making you sweat.

  • 87. Vanda Bacich | February 5th, 2011 at 4:32 pm | #

Winter is my favourte season for cooking. We’re not outside all weekend so there’s more time for cooking lots of rich and hearty warming foods and vegetables and scrumptious hot desserts like Sticky Date Pudding.

  • 88. Soph | February 5th, 2011 at 4:41 pm | #

Autumn wins my favourite season. It’s hard to choose, but beautiful stone fruits are still available, yet the winter fruits are on their way.
To me, this time of year, when the nights are fresh I look forward to baked quinces to finish off a hearty meal hearty meal ideally shared with friends and/or family while gazing into the fire, glass of red at hand. A time to embrace roasted root vegetables and slow cooked curries, casseroles and stews after the heat of summer is long gone and crisp salads are no longer as desired as they were.
Oh I am loving the summer fun, but am more than happy to be changing seasons soon!

  • 89. Connie | February 5th, 2011 at 4:47 pm | #

Love your choice of prize. The cover looks amazing. This is a tough one for me as I love to cook all year round. I guess I would have to say summer for the versatility. We can enjoy our creative barbies, eat alfresco day or night, picnic and as we have a boat we take gourmet food up to our friends along the river to share and have wine. Food is also lighter. One of my favourite things I’ve done recently iss to have a high tea along the river in my backyard – how posh. We also had a mosquito net pavillion filled with fairy lights, dinner party which was gorgeous. Do that in winter – I don’t think so.

  • 90. Shirley Doel | February 5th, 2011 at 4:53 pm | #

Winter when food is enjoyed the most. Aromas of delicious food cooking. Mouthwatering. I’d be a better cook if only I could receive a book.

  • 91. Alex | February 5th, 2011 at 4:54 pm | #

I love winter as it’s the season for comfort food. When the temperature starts to drop my slow cooker comes out. When its insufferably cold outside there’s nothing more satisfying than coming home to a house filled with the smell of lamb shanks, garlic, rosemary, mustard and red wine that have been slowly cooking away for eight hours. Complemented with good fresh bread and a nice red, nothing else comes close!

    I’m interested in Nigella

  • 93. Michele | February 5th, 2011 at 5:00 pm | #

    Those cookbooks look wonderful!

I adore cooking in winter – in no other season do you get away with quite as much butter and sugar! A wintry pork roast with fennel and colourful vegetables…

  • 94. Jacki Alcock | February 5th, 2011 at 5:04 pm | #

Oooh, summer. Definitely. Stone fruits, tropical fruit, all that basil and the veggie garden in full bloom! Yum!

  • 95. LisaD | February 5th, 2011 at 5:08 pm | #

I like all the seasons for different reasons, so I might just do a different season for each entry!
I love summer for blueberries – in lemon & blueberry friands or tipped over a ripe mango. I love summer for barbecues and eating outside. I love summer for basil, for the pesto that I freeze and can use all year.

  • 96. Mick | February 5th, 2011 at 5:16 pm | #

I dont have a fave season as i love food 24/7 and i treat cold weather tucker with the same love as warm weather food

  • 97. Andrew | February 5th, 2011 at 5:25 pm | #

Winter crawling up with some warm sweet desserts!

  • 100. Carly | February 5th, 2011 at 6:04 pm | #

Definitely summer. Because for dinner tonight I can go to the garden and pick some tomatoes and basil for a caprese salad that actually has flavour … And because the zucchini flowers my husband picked last week are amazing stuffed with ricotta and lemon zest … And because rocket is growing quicker than we can eat it, so we make a salad with it each night while a meat is bbq’ed (maybe chicken thigh that has marinated in mint yoghurt and honey whilst we have gone for a jog) … And finally because peach Bellini sorbet impresses every guest, but there are always leftovers!

  • 101. Chris | February 5th, 2011 at 6:31 pm | #

I would definitely have to say Spring as the stone fruits are just beginning & you can just do a lovely grilled nectarine or peach or something a little heavier like a clafoutis if it’s still a little cool & oh don’t let me forget spring lamb … so delicious this time of year !

  • 102. Rebecca | February 5th, 2011 at 6:41 pm | #

    Cooking makes me feel alive,
    Especially when winter arrives,
    Rosemary, garlic & lamp shanks,
    And veggies. Thanks!

  • 103. Cate | February 5th, 2011 at 7:22 pm | #

As I make an Avocado and Lime Salsa to go with my Spicy Fish I would have to say summer (minus the extreme heat please!!!)

Please, please, please let me win – you know I am a cookbook junkie – I don’t have this one!!!

  • 104. janet staveley boump | February 5th, 2011 at 7:46 pm | #

I live in the South of Italy and my most favourite food is brown bread (baked in a wood burning oven) toasted on my open fire, rubbed with a clove of garlic and then drizzled with some of our local olive oil; I have this for my supper almost every night during the winter…repetitive? soooo delicious.

  • 105. Dina | February 5th, 2011 at 7:47 pm | #

I like winter for food because I love things slow roasted in the oven, plus its easy to cook!

  • 106. Aussie Foodie | February 5th, 2011 at 7:49 pm | #

For me it would have to be winter – long slow cooked joints of beef, knobbly root vegetables, curly kale, a long table filled with friends eating family style….follow it all up with a nice pudding, maybe my Nans Lemon Delicious…and all washed down with lots of bottles of red, silly jokes and love.

Sorry to pick winter when you guys are sweltering – double digits here today (13!! whoohooo) – I want to win this for Mum down in Ulladulla – 42.3 on the wall when I spoke to her earlier today!

  • 107. Jennifer S | February 5th, 2011 at 7:59 pm | #

What a delightful work of art this ‘Delicious’ cookbook is. The different shades of brown in those pictures are really appealing. I’d love to see more please ;-)

I’d have to say the best season for food is Summer. With Christmas and the Chinese New Year both making their special appearances during the beautiful Aussie Summer, it’s my best time of the year to indulge in the fresh seafood and gourmet offerings that these special occasions bring to common folks like me. From Christmas turkeys and Chinese New Year ‘Yusheng’ (Teochew-style raw salmon salad), to fresh Aussie oysters, mussels, scallops and lobsters, and to the juiciest strawberries and cherries, the most sumptuous food paradise has truly come to life under the sweltering heat of the gorgeous Aussie sun. I can also indulge in the best desserts from puddings to ‘Nian Gao’ (steamed Chinese sticky cake), topped up with summer ice creams or a nice piece of lamington or two (thanks to your wonderful Australian Day tips). Summer is indeed the season to experience the best of fresh Australian produce, and the delicacies that the special occasions bring to passionate food lovers wherever they are.

I’ll stick with winter, please, if I may? One full page photo per page?? That is genius. And I love the menu matching options. They never disappoint with their cookbooks, as you never disappoint with your posts and competitions, dear Lorraine! :D xox

I’m saying summer cos it is summer and isn’t the produce beautiful this time of year. But I also love going into winter as it gets cooler and you start to feel like comfort food etc. So I can’t decide. Do I have to?

Hi Lorraine, I’m going to say that Spring is my all time favourite season for food. There’s something about looking forward to warm outdoor weather that spurs foodies/cooks/chefs alike to breathe a fresh breathe of air into their menus. Not quite summer but there’s a certain excited energy at the produce markets.

Spring is definitely my favourite month for food. It has all the promise of summer and the delicious seasonal produce it brings but without the uncomfortable dining weather. Salads, bbqs, picnics, seafood – spring has it all…

And some days are cool enough that you can still enjoy winter comfort foods – it’s the best of all seasons.

  • 151. Cathy | February 6th, 2011 at 1:18 pm | #

Spring, with the refreshing new tastes, the freshness of the early morning sun, reflected in thew first strawberriesof the new season, the wonderful asparagus, gentle flavours oflettuce, the incredible lightness of being alive and tasting the re-awakening of light food

  • 153. Lauren Simpson | February 6th, 2011 at 1:40 pm | #

Twas summer, but with this Sydney heatwave, now it’s winter. I’ve had a recipe for coconut and mango angel cake calling me for days but it’s too hot to turn the oven on! It uses 12 egg whites, yes 12 not a typo. I guess the ironic thing is though that in winter we wouldn’t have the beautiful mangoes for the cake!

  • 154. Victoria | February 6th, 2011 at 1:53 pm | #

Being a solid I-love-summer girl, it’s hard to admit it, but spring has to trump summer for food.

Coming out of the cooler months with all the heavy foods, you get the joy of new spring vegetables, plump in their young sweetness and the flavours of beautiful spring lamb. It’s also the beautiful transition from heavier heartier meals to those focused on flavour, texture and balance which pleases me.

There is nothing like a Thai-style charcoal grilled octopus freshly catch from the blue ocean in the Summer sun.

when I was a kid, me and my mates liked to get on our little boat and catch an octopus. Once we can catch them, we chacoal grilled them and dip them into the yummiest dipping sauce mankind ever made. Fish sauce, lemon, garlic, sugar and Thai rice wine oooohhh. The highlight of the day was you enjoying the food with your mates, a bottle of beer and the view of the ocean from your boat !!!!! dont need no Maccas ..

Summer, where less is more & cooking is so easy because it’s not really cooking but more ‘putting together’ & ‘arranging’ cold salads, cold cuts & home elaborate home made salads on a plate. None of us like to eat when it’s hot, and gladly embrace leafy greens which are so much healthier for us.

  • 162. Rachel | February 6th, 2011 at 6:20 pm | #

Summer definately, warm days spent at the beach and then balmy nights eating fish and chips or chucking some meat on the barbie and having a cold beer.

I love Delicious magazine! My favourite season for food is winter – I love the hearty stews, soups and roasts to which the season lends itself. I love spending a Sunday afternoon with something cooking in a pot on the stove, stirring occasionally and then eating with a big hunk of fresh bread. Yum!

    Summer… because of the mangos!

That photograph of the box with little compartments for spices is just stunning. So pretty I can smell it!I’m a summer girl through and through and so I love salads and ice cream and all that jazz but I think the best season for recipes and images of food is Autumn. The tones and leaves, chilly nights and warm days just add mean anything is possible!

Winter – slow cooked stews, pies, apple crumble, roasts. It reminds me of a child, living in New Zealand eating my Mum’s cooking. Yum

Maybe a fillet of steak or fish on the barbi with a great salad and topped off with pavlova smothered with berries and fruit.
Hang on! I also love winter, curries and soups Yum!

I love winter. I love cooking all weekend making stews and baking bread. Then curling up to eat with a glass of red.

Winter for sure. It’s all about comfort food. Lovely slow cooked stews with a side of buttery mash leaving that lovely warm feeling in my tummy. Hot sticky baked pears or a hot apple tart with scrummy pastry.. yum!

  • 194. Jacky | February 7th, 2011 at 3:27 pm | #

I would have to say its to hard to choose, Summer is great for outdoor bbqs and salads, winter is amazing for roasts, stews and warm the heart food, Autumn is so nice for comfort food but no need for the beanies and Spring is amazing for fresh veg and picnics. You definately cant define it as one great season. Eating is great all year round! :)

Summer. The heady scent of home grown tomatoes makes my nose tingle and my mouth water. How I adore scrabbling through the bushes for the bright red jewels which whilst terribly bulbous and ugly taste magnificent!

  • 196. Erin M | February 7th, 2011 at 3:33 pm | #

I love winter. There is nothing better then warm comfort food, stews, curries and anything done in the slow cooker.

  • 197. Paul | February 7th, 2011 at 4:45 pm | #

Well its almost my favourite time of the year – Autumn. Warm days, not stifling and cool nights which is great for sleeping. But warm days means I’m able to enjoy lunch at MissChu’s (steamed dumplings), or the Winery and dinner at Porteno or La Casa Ristorante. Then there’s BBQs as soon as I get my Christmas present put together any day now ready for Autumn. But as an intro to Autumn there’s the NSW wine function Sydney Cellar Door in Hyde Park 26-27/2/11. Autumn is a definite

I already have two delicious cookbooks and they have served me well. Definately Summer for the fruit selection and the picnic oportunities. Everything tastes better outdoors :)

The Delicious range of cookbooks are all so beautifully done and very inspiring for all the die-hard foodies such as ourselves to the timid cooks. I would love to win this book, the cover has me hooked already!
Autumn would have to be my pick even though the other seasons have so much to offer as well. Autumn is the time of Harvest and isn’t that an amazing thing in itself? So many food festivals all around the world celebrate the bountiful Harvest, especially the wine regions. :-)

  • 203. Donna Grant | February 8th, 2011 at 9:41 am | #

I love winter, sitting inside with the fire going. What a perfect time to eat hearty meals like osso bucco and steamed puddings that just don’t seem right in the heat of summer.

  • 204. donna | February 8th, 2011 at 12:23 pm | #

I love the quiet of Autumn after the heat and holiday craziness of a Queensland summer. A time to experiment with new recipes and hopefully find few gems.

  • 209. Natalia | February 9th, 2011 at 8:45 am | #

Hmmm… my favourite season for eating is winter. Yummy roasts, hearty soups. Living in NQ means that winter is not so cold you can’t enjoy sitting outside with a brazier and a glass of your favourite wine and dinner in the company of your friends and family!

  • 210. Sarah | February 9th, 2011 at 10:15 am | #

I love summer because I love all the fruits that become available!

  • 211. MargsRoo | February 9th, 2011 at 10:30 am | #

Which season I prefer for food? It is such a hard one. First off I thought of Summer, because I love to enjoy juicy, sweet, cold and not too heavy foods. This is like loving food for food and what it brings us. Then I thought of Winter, and the hearty, warm, yummy filling foods that have rich flavours to heat the body and keep it feeling snug. I think of home cooked meals, and of my nan cooking a roast dinner on a Sunday – slaving away by the oven even if it’s super hot outside – a roast will be served on a Sunday evening. Autumn and Spring – is a mixture of both seasons. So being able to enjoy either type of foods – fresh and juicy or warm and comforting and my birthday, my favourite season to enjoy food would be Autumn!

  • 212. paul | February 9th, 2011 at 10:56 am | #

Summer, as all the best fruit is available and the weather is great and you can enjoy a nice wine as well.

  • 213. Susan | February 9th, 2011 at 11:13 am | #

It has to be Summer, when my orchard and vegie patch is pumping, stone fruits, figs, many varieties of tomatoes, fresh basil, sweet corn, and too many others to list, life is at its best!

  • 218. Britt Chapman | February 9th, 2011 at 3:22 pm | #

My favourite season for cooking would have to be winter. Nothing beats a steaming bowl of comfort food to take the chill out of my bones and put my mind in a good place. Winter is the season for baking in-season vegetables seasoned with olive oil and sprigs of herbs, gorgeous cakes and slices, fresh hot pasta and let’s not forget hearty stews, soups and moreish oven baked breads. Mmmmmmm :)

  • 219. Sharon | February 9th, 2011 at 4:00 pm | #

These books always look amazing. Mouth is watering just looking at the pictures.

My favourite season for food is definitely winter. Winter means warm hearty meals, delicious soups, comfort food, being able to savour the deliciousness of ice cream and chocolate without having to worry about them melting and of course movie snacks, homemade or bought, that are eaten when snuggling up to your partner on the couch keeping warm.
Oh and not related to food per se, the best part of winter is that thick warm clothes and jackets are needed, and also good for hiding the ‘effects’ of indulging on gorgeous winter food.

  • 220. Leonore | February 9th, 2011 at 5:08 pm | #

I’m a Summer girl. Seafood and especially our local crays are always a Christmas treat. Easy salads, non fussy menus so we can spend time enjoying the season and the food it offers.

I have never experienced four seasons before till four years ago. I was blessed to have my first experience of four seasons in Melbourne. Summer was the first experience. Imagine the smell and the sight of all the summer fruits in Victoria market.
    *take a deep breath now*
I was like a kid in a lolly shop!
Summer is now the season of discovery. The discovery of a new fruit, the discovery of a new taste, the discovery of a new dish!
Summer is my favorite season. :)

I think I’m going to have to say winter! I’m a little homesick at the moment (British) and I love nothing more than cranking out winter warmers, you can never go past roast chicken oozing sage, pinenut & pancetta stuffing or a shoulder of roast lamb stuffed with rosemary, garlic & butter, left to drip straight from the rack onto chipped potatoes – is the saliva flowing enough yet to let me win?!

I love ALL the seasons and get excited about the different produce I get to use at different times of the year. Having said that I often find myself wishing for pears in summer or stoned fruit in winter. Probably a case of the grass is always greener…If I had to get permanently stuck in one season though, I’d probably choose SPRING. That way, most things I love would be flourishing…and I could always get myself a hot house and a cold room to take care of the rest!

All seasons in one day! ….summer grapes turned into delicious topping for my winter puds….
My home grown herbs used all year round for wintery sauces, summer delights and herbal teas. Tomato salad in summer, tomato chutneys in autumn tomato & herb sauce for warm wintery pastas.

There are just so many wonderful things to try!

Summer loven out side by the pool.
Fresh fruit salad with plenty of stone fruits, berries & mangoes,
    vegetable salads with a B.B.Q.
ALFRESCO DINING in this wonderful Oz.

winter – i like warm comfy food

  • 286. Bud | February 28th, 2011 at 2:12 am | #

My favourite season for food is definitely summer. The (sometimes crazily) hot temperature just scream all manners of cold food but at the same time tempting you to get together for a barbie. Eating a hot curry in summer is definitely one of my fondest memory.
And if I ever want to have a taste of winter, just turn on the aircon and have a hotpot. Summer is definitely the season for food (for me anyway).

  • 287. Kim | February 28th, 2011 at 1:58 pm | #

It has to be summer – ripe red tomatoes with basil, crisp salads, soft sweet berries…there’s nothing better than that.

  • 298. Georgia Johnson | March 2nd, 2011 at 3:14 pm | #

Summer – I adore mixing it up with salads, trying something new, finding different flavour combinations. Only I’m inherently lazy, and summer seems the only time I can be bothered pushing the salad boundaries!

  • 299. Georgia | March 2nd, 2011 at 4:50 pm | #

How can I compete with these amazing comments!

Firstly, not only is Delicious a monthly ritual – but I am addicted to Donna’s ‘seasons’ and love the ease of searching a recipe that allows me to use beautiful fresh ‘in season’ produce – nothing better! This book will no doubt not dissapoint.

    Best season:
    S – sweet strawberries
P – petals, peonies and picnics
    R – rustic rhubarb
    I – infused indulgences
N – new flavours and new life
G – great time to cook for gorgeous friends!

I cook a soup without telling them what it is and then the kids play off to see who can guess the most ingrediants- Great for them to become familiar with so many new flavours- and great for a workingmum who can spend SUnday afternoon preparing tomorrow nights dinner and knowing the flavours will develop overnight.I have used many ‘Delicious’ recipes…they are fabulous and some of the kids favourites.
