Win 1 of 35 Anathoth Brunch Packs!

You probably already know of my jam fetish. The absolute need to buy jams wherever I travel because I love eating jam as does Mr NQN who has his crumpets slathered with it every night. Well Anathoth is probably a brand known to NQN readers as I did a giveaway a while back which was very popular-it turns out that you have as much of a jam fetish as I! :)

Anathoth jam is a jam made in New Zealand using just fruit and sugar and nothing else. That’s right, that is no pectins, preservatives, colours or flavours just the two ingredients that we would use when we make a jam. It’s as close to home made jam as one can find so it’s already got a great head start on a lot of jams. If you’re stuck for brunch ideas, Anathoth have got something rather fun to start your weekend off with!  They’re giving away some Anathoth brunch packs which contain:

1 x Anathoth Rhubarb and Red Berry Jam

1 x Anathoth Cherry Berry Jam

1 x Anathoth 100% cotton tea towel

1 x Edmonds White Wings pancake in a bottle shaker mix

All packaged up and sent to 35 lucky Not Quite Nigella readers thanks to the people at Anathoth Jams!

For a chance to win one all you have to do is tell me your favourite brunch meal! Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. The competition ends at midnight AEST 3rd of September, 2011. You can enter this  competition once daily and it is open to anyone within Australia.

I don’t have a particular brunch meal so I don’t meet the conditions but I can tell you about one of the most memorable brunch meals I ever had. It was on a Saturday morningish after a week of intense partying at my university. The brunch included regular Swedish fare such as meatballs, pickled herrings, potatoes etc, lots of booze, drinking games and great company. It doesn’t get any better.

Yum jam! As much as I love sweet breakfasts when I go out for brunch with friends, I always get eggs Benedict (as I don’t know how to make the sauce!) two poached eggs with smoked salmon on delicious bread with hollandaise sauce…I’m definitely hungry now!

  • 3. Gloria | July 30th, 2011 at 7:02 am | #

Dim sum brunch if in the mood of having some Chinese food; otherwise pancakes, fruit jam and fresh fruit and juices is the way to go!

Brunch is my favourite! Eggs and the works or pancakes. Even better if someone else makes it

You know, call me boring, but bacon, eggs and toast on a lazy Saturday morning never gets old.

Eggs Benedict is one of those real “spoil yourself” brunch items that I love. :)

Never tried Anathoth jams…they look delish though! My favourite brunch dish? If I’m good, it’s Bircher muesli. If I’m bad, it’s french toast with bananas, bacon and maple syrup. Amazing combination!

Now this is a bit unfair, how can I name just one favorite? It’s like asking me to pick a favorite between my children!
Hmm, Eggs Benedict, Poached fruit w/ rice porrige, Maple French toast with Bacon, Jam on super thick GFree toast, Fritta,..
Ok, My definite favorite brunch item is a brunch buffet!

My boyfriend is a jam feind so entering for him he’d eat the whole jar of jam in one sitting if i didn’t stop him! he particularly likes anything that will clog up his arteries for brunch mainly bacon eggs and toast with cheese while i tend to go for a muffin or croissant to save room for lunch :)

My all time favorite, and most indulgent, brunch is Eggs Benedict. Beautiful fresh free-range eggs (I’m lucky – my best friend keeps happy chickens in her little back garden), perfectly toasted sour dough, thin sliced Ham off the bone and that gorgeous thick, fluffy, tangy and oh so buttery homemade hollandaise sauce slathered
on top just doesn’t get any better. And don’t forget a great coffee as well!

  • 24. ann | July 30th, 2011 at 9:35 am | #

You can call them cheat’s tortellini or ricotta gnocci… All they are is a mix of fresh ricotta (not from small plastic packs, they are too runny, but from the kilo pack sold at woolies or any ricotta sold in deli by weight) and plain flour, rolled into thin sausage shape then cut into small bite size pieces, boiled in salted water, then drained (treat them very gently as they are soft and tender!), and fried in some good butter, with a sprinkling of sugar into the pan to get good caramelisation. Eat with sour cream. Amazing.

  • 25. Jacqueline | July 30th, 2011 at 9:39 am | #

Well, this is a bit tough because it depends on my mood and the weather, but in winter I love ricotta pancakes with caramelised banana and creamy vanilla yoghurt. In summer, it would have to be an amazing nutty granola with creamy vanilla yoghurt and a side of in season stewed fruit.
Actually, I could indulge in an amazing brunch at any time of day!

What a lovely giveaway :D ! And the two jam flavours are the ones I picked last time!! Thanks Anathoth! Now, Lorraine – you DO say ‘brunch’ – for me that begins with orange blossoms [orange + champagne, oh, we'll forget the orange by glass two! :) !], followed by a tray of open Scandinavian sandwiches on a dark rye or black bread. Fillings? Say smoked salmon & cottage cheese, egg pate + anchovy fillets or best ham with pickled cucumbers. I think Three-Cookies would u’stand and approve! And, Hayley & Ann – may I drop in one weekend for a share of yours? :D !

  • 65. Claire | July 30th, 2011 at 1:00 pm | #

Oooohh! I love a good weekend brunch! My favourite brunch is what we can the all-in-one breaky. A few good quality thick Sausages, 2 red onions cut into chunks, 6 tomatoes quartered, one can of diced tomatoes in herbs, a few cloves of garlic sliced, some rosemary, thyme and bunch of basil torn. toss it all together in a baking dish, a good lug of olive oil, a generous splash of balsamic dressing, and shove the dish in the oven for 1hr on moderate heat. Jump back into bed, wait for the delicious smells to waft through the house. Share it with your partner or family, eating it straight out of the dish and mop up the delicious juices with torn up chunks of fresh crusty bread. You can even pull it out 5 mins before serving and crack a couple of eggs on top and put it back in to set the eggs.
    Delicious!!

  • 66. Tony | July 30th, 2011 at 1:02 pm | #

Well, every weekend my partner and self go out for breakfast/brunch, and tend to go to a different place each day. Having said that, it is usually around Newtown and Marrickville, as we live in the area.
I like to try something different most times, especially if it is new to the menu. I love an epigastric delight in many varied forms.
As I just love to eat as naturally as possible, ingredient wise, the featured delights sound awesome, so please NQN, include me in your prize.

I absolutely love the natural muesli at Badde Manors in Glebe. It’s incredible and comes with beautiful fresh fruit, natural yoghurt and the most sensational mango puree and raspberries. It’s a taste sensation and satisfies for the rest of the day along with their coffee. My happy hubby can’t go past their organic bircher muesli but always says he feels like he’s in his third trimester after eating it and will soon be delivering twins!!!! Still, he keeps on ordering it!!!

  • 73. Lizzi | July 30th, 2011 at 1:54 pm | #

WELL. Let me tell you…There needs to be hash browns. Either the brick/slab/processed/McDonald’s style, or home made. They can be chunky and ‘piece-y’, or finely diced/sliced/shredded and well ‘stuck-together’ – think latke style. Or they can simply be left over mashed potato, formed into patties and fried in butter. I do not mind. But some form of fried potato must be present.

To accompany the aforementioned mystery potatoes, there are a number of options: tomato ketchup, jam, powdered sugar, CHEESE (of any sort), maple syrup, sour cream. Bacon never goes astray. Scrambled eggs will always be the superior form of eggage in my mind. Two slices of generously-buttered white toast + hash brown + ketchup = carbtastic breakfast sandwich.

….I forget where I’m going with this tangent. In short: potatoes are great. Fried potatoes are better. I am a piggy. The end :)

French toast with canadian maple syrup and grilled crispy bacon and caramelised berries. YUMMO!

  • 75. Rinko Z. | July 30th, 2011 at 2:01 pm | #

My favourite brunch meal has got to be Sushi! My sushi fillings usually include fresh salmon or tuna, fresh avocado, scrambled eggs (mixed with sesame seeds), Gari (pickled ginger), and fresh salmon roe (yum!), wrapped nicely and gently in fragrant glutinous rice and Nori (seaweed). When I don’t have the salmon, I replace it with a slice of SPAM (i.e. the can meat). Rice vinegar, soy sauce and wasabi are absolute essentials for making my perfect sushi. I eat plenty of sushis for most days of my hectic working week, and would share them with my Aussie mates (to satisfy their Nobu fix ;-) ). This Anathoth Brunch Packs would be a sea change for my Japanese taste buds, but they are pretty versatile when it comes to trying new cuisines – that’s the joy of enjoying food isn’t it? An Anathoth Jam inspired sushi will be in the works, I’m sure they’ll make a lovely brunch. Thanks Lorraine!

Ok, call me lazy, but brunch to me is anything that is leftover in the fridge, but if there is nothing in there because my son has beaten me to it, then i will do a lovely thick piece of toast, slathered with butter or alternately if i am trying to be good, ricotta, and cold sliced tomato from the fridge, with lots of salt and freshly ground pepper ! cant beat it :)

Far too many to even contemplate, so would have to go for a buffet which could linger into a really great day, with the right company. And of course it would have to include my favourite, baked eggs with shredded bacon and mushrooms topped with a generous dollop of cream, seasoned as you like, baked to your preference served with toast or crumpets

My favourite brunch meal is a smoked salmon omelette, topped with spring onions and dill. I love the eggs and salmon cooked so that they are still a bit moist. And this might sound a bit atypical but I love eating my omelettes with rice. Nomnomnom.

  • 85. Antonietta | July 30th, 2011 at 3:23 pm | #

I can’t go past a great scone (still warm), with home made jam (in my case – apricot) and a gorgeous shantilly cream, for brunch. Simple and stunning. And of course, a cappuccino on the side :)

I don’t live in Australia but I will still tell you my favorite brunch meal anyway :) I love waffles with maple syrup and bacon!!!!!!

Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, preferably served in bed after a l ong sleep in while hubby tends to the kids is my perfect brunch. Not that it happens very often so pancakes and delicious jam would come in a very close second!

Every Christmas we have brunch with the whole family, where we have egg nog, roasted strawberries, ricotta with melted chocolate stirred through, croissants, jam, cream and eggs benedict!!! The Perfect Brunch xxx

  • 91. HELEN | July 30th, 2011 at 4:10 pm | #

That’s easy…corn cakes topped with double smoked Australian salmon with a dollop of dill mayonnaise…mmmmm….i’m just salivating thinking about it!

  • 92. samantha | July 30th, 2011 at 4:11 pm | #

Kaya toast with soft boiled eggs and a nice cup of black tea with a (long) dash of evaporated milk. Reminds me of my mum.

  • 93. michelle | July 30th, 2011 at 4:26 pm | #

We keep chooks, so my favourite brunch would have to be poached eggs over grilled asparagus. I squeeze some lemon over the asparagus before I get it out of the pan and then grate some parmesan on top and then place the egg on top. Sprinkle it with some freshly grated salt and pepper and wash it down with a cup of strong tea, it doesn’t get much better than that!

  • 94. Jeremy | July 30th, 2011 at 4:31 pm | #

    Two words: Eggs benedict!

  • 95. marion matthews | July 30th, 2011 at 4:36 pm | #

  • 96. Ruth | July 30th, 2011 at 4:56 pm | #

My favourite brunch meal would have to be bacon and eggs – with tomatoes, mushrooms and toast preferably. I don’t mind how the eggs are done – scrambled, fried or poached. A few months ago my hubby and I had brunch at a lovely cafe in Manuka, ACT and the bacon had maple syrup on it….was so delicious….definitely want to go back again some time. Oh and a nice latte is the perfect way to cap off a perfect brunch.

When the weekend comes I know I’m in heaven, to relax and enjoy a beautiful brunch just to relish and enjoy every flavour and if its with friends even better. Bacon and eggs tick all the boxes for me , turkish bread toasted and some of that lovely jam. Can’t wait for that weekend.

Fresh light croissants from my wonderful french bakery, filled with the best of jams, is just the most wonderful brunch. Would you like to join me, please feel free.

  • 101. Denise O'Keefe | July 30th, 2011 at 5:43 pm | #

I have 2 favourites – savoury is of course bacon with french toast & hash browns and when I’m in need of a sugar hit, it’s pancakes with raspberry jam & ice cream!

  • 102. Liz | July 30th, 2011 at 5:43 pm | #

Brunch always seems to be my second meal because I get early. What I have depends on where I am. Eating at home–Freshly made muffins or toasted brioche with jam, fresh berries and champagne. Eating out–poached eggs with crispy streaky bacon and sourdough toast and, of course, champagne!

  • 103. Susan | July 30th, 2011 at 5:47 pm | #

  • 104. Jacqui | July 30th, 2011 at 5:51 pm | #

My favourite brunch meal is one shared with Grace(8) and Alexandra(4) ,my grand daughters after thay have helped me cook it. They adore making pancakes that are served sweet with syrup, jam or whipped butter or served as a savoury companion to sauteed mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, eggs cooked sunny side up and crispy bacon.
They always insist on serving food buffet style so as each person can have a choice of what they would like!!

My fave brunch meal is quinoa cooked with raspberries, blueberries & strawberries. Once cooked topped with organic honey, organic vanilla yoghurt & a sprinkle of cinnamon. Perhaps I will try adding a tablespoon of Anathoth jam next time…Nom nom nom.

Well, I would have to say eggs benedict as well. With smoked salmon of course. I am lucky enough to have my kitchen equipped with a fantastic Thermomix and the sauce is done in a matter of minutes. Yummo or now I think of it home made crumpets, with Jam. oh I am gonna make that in the morning. All done in my TM as well. How have I ever lived with out it.

  • 108. Melissa Powell | July 30th, 2011 at 6:20 pm | #

Favorite Brunch meal is definitely eggs Benedict, delicious creamy sauce with sunny side eggs with oozy yolks when you cut into them! Yummo

  • 109. ck | July 30th, 2011 at 6:32 pm | #

Well, I am obsessed with making perfect poached eggs. So I always make my own weekend brunch at home – poached eggs, baked flat mushroom, little grilled tomatoes with oregano and some green stuff, either rocket or baby spinach, served with grilled home made sourdough and percolator coffee. Like you and Mr NQN, I am a jam fiend, so I follow it up with home made sour dough crumpets topped with fig jam. I just made myself hungry :)

  • 110. Caroline Kelly | July 30th, 2011 at 6:32 pm | #

Smoked salmon with eggs benedict – the hollandaise sauce cuts through any oiliness of the salmon.

  • 111. Vicky | July 30th, 2011 at 6:35 pm | #

  • 122. Jen | July 30th, 2011 at 9:36 pm | #

  • 123. gr82do | July 30th, 2011 at 9:44 pm | #

Sunday morning sleep in and then meet a a friend’s home for brunch. Each person brings ‘plate’. Often it is a birthday or anniversary celebration.Offerings include Danish pancakes, hot buttery raisin toast, savoury muffins, fluit platter, tomato and fetta tart, fruit juice, selections of tea and good home brewed coffee. And of course good company.

  • 124. Sylvia@bascooking | July 30th, 2011 at 9:45 pm | #

My husband love jam He goes without me knowing, to the fridge and eat a spoonful of jam. I prefer with toast in the morning with my breakfast

  • 125. Amber | July 30th, 2011 at 10:29 pm | #

    Oh goodness!!!

Too many to choose, but probably:
sweet – french toast made with homemade brioche (sometimes sandwiched with chocolate) with berries and passionfruit yoghurt

    or

savoury – an omelette with buttery mushrooms or fetta/chorizo on sourdough toast or a crusty White roll with crispy bacon, cheese, gooey fried egg and baked beans….

(or a peanut butter and jam sandwich on White bread for something naughty but nice…and quick!)

  • 126. Lyn | July 30th, 2011 at 10:30 pm | #

I love the omelette my son of 16 cooks me on my birthday & Mothers day. He also makes great toast, juice, latte or tea to go with it, all layed out nicely on a tray in bed.. It’s the best! I love him for it because he wants to do it.

  • 127. AmberB | July 30th, 2011 at 10:32 pm | #

WAFFLES!!! I could eat waffles any time of the day – especially when served with cream and strawberries – naughty but SO delicious!!!

  • 128. kimberley Headford | July 30th, 2011 at 10:34 pm | #

The best brunch consists of soft golden French Toast made from a French Stick, drizzled with real Canadian Maple Syrup accompanied by Orange Juice, a pot of tea and the sunday papers.

  • 129. Anna | July 30th, 2011 at 10:53 pm | #

oh, if only I could still have brunch!- with four kids brunch never happens anymore. brunch time is now lunch time. But, if I was able to, I would have fresh, crusty bread, two runny eggs, crispy bacon and slightly sauteed spinach. A good strong coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice on the side and I would be in HEAVEN.
And please pick me – I have a jam fetish and a tea towel fetish! I want that tea towel!

    Fruit salad when hungover

  • 131. BreadintheBone | July 30th, 2011 at 11:12 pm | #

I have a few fave brunche meals, because my wife loves them. Most Sundays, I make fruit pancakes, American style (since I’m a Yank in the UK.) I prefer either pear and ginger pancakes, or banana and blueberry, using mashed banana in the batter to make it light, with a generous grating of nutmeg. I serve these with bacon and maple syrup. We bring that back from the States whenever we visit.

The other best brunch is french toast (eggy bread). If possible, I make that with brioche, or else with a light and absorbent homemade bread. Haven’t got round to baking brioche yet; soon, though.

  • 132. BreadintheBone | July 30th, 2011 at 11:13 pm | #

P.S.; “Brunch”, not “brunche”! Also, just to be clear, it’s the maple syrup we bring back from the States. US bacon is rubbish.

  • 133. The Food Mentalist | July 30th, 2011 at 11:26 pm | #

My favourite brunch meal is on Sundays and we usually have pancakes. This delicious jam would be perfect on them :)

  • 134. Matilda | July 30th, 2011 at 11:27 pm | #

I have to start off with a cappuccino or I just don’t function. If staying at a hotel, I love the spread that is available and have a little feast ie: a mix of savoury and sweet :-) but if I’m home I’ll prepare an omelette with an Indian twist because hubby is Indian and I’m such a good wife!Free range eggs with fresh coriander, tomato, chilli, finely diced eschallot or green shallots, finely diced red capsicum and a little grated cheese served with roti. :-)

  • 135. EHA | July 30th, 2011 at 11:32 pm | #

It’s nearly midnight and I could not resist taking another peek ;) ! Delightful how food gets people sharing their lives! Eggs Benedict seems to win hands down, but I liked the idea of those freshly laid poached ones on a bed of asparagus with lemon j over – yum – seven hours to breakfast: must have a look at that fridge :D ! Sweet dreams if you are still up . . .

I always pick either EGGS BENEDICT or PANCAKES with maple syrup and ice-cream…Mmmm. And it always tastes better when you haven’t had to make it yourself. Anathoth jams are really delish…they go well with croissants, english muffins or as NQN mentioned, crumpets. I’m drooling a little bit now lol

  • 144. Erin | July 31st, 2011 at 1:24 am | #

This is a tough one as brunch is my favourite meal! I’d have to say poached eggs with smoked salmon, spinach and relish/chutney/hollandaise (any yummy sauce really!) on seeded bread when I’m feeling savoury. But I’m also very partial to thick fluffy pancakes with ricotta, cinnamon and honey when I’m in a sweet mood! Having said that, put a brunch menu in front of me and I’ll claim everything is my favourite! :)

Im not sure if I would classify it as a “brunch” meal, more me just getting up quite late and eating breakfast at 11am on a sunday. I love the Rhubarb and Red berry jam, I eat it on a nice thick piece of french toast and make two pieces for my boyfriend.I saw it on your website when it was first launched and I had to have it. I drive half an hour to get my weekly supply of that jam so I can slather it all over my crumpets for my usual breakfast.

  • 170. Sandra | July 31st, 2011 at 9:21 pm | #

Yummy jam- my family love it! My favourite bruch is home-made belgian waffles, accompanied by fresh strawberries that have been warmed through with a couple of tablespoons of Anathoth strawberry jam and a drizzle of semi-sweet thick chocolate sauce. Corn fritters with bacon, tomato salsa and basil pesto. Current favourite, if only because it was the most recent and suits these sunny winter weekends.

When I’m too busy to eat breakfast at work & suddenly I realise it’s 11am, I head across the road to the cafe & order an egg & bacon roll. It’s so fatty & heavy that I can’t bring myself to having it at breakfast, but for brunch I can justify it :)

    Never will forget the
Brioche Doree and Champagne breakfast in Vanuatu – poached salmon, sweet garlic dill sauce and fricassee of artichoke spilling out of my brioche accompanied with great coffee, glass of
French champagne and a bowl of berries and creme fraiche – what a way to start the day!!

I love having scrambled eggs on toast as a quick fix and delicious brunch meal. Finish that off with a cup of green tea and something sweet like a scone slathered generous with jam would simply be perfect!

The best brunch meal is pancakes, topped with lashings of peanut butter and drowned in maple syrup!! Too much time in the USA has spoiled me forever…

I wish I could narrow it down to one…when I think of the perfect brunch, I think of being with people I love, chilling out on a day where I know this is most energetic I have to be all day…I also think of great coffee (number 1 priority!), depending on my mood maybe some poached eggs with hollandaise sauce (and a side of hash browns – I have an unhealth obsession!) or maybe a stack of fat pancakes, piled up with fresh fruit and ice-cream and lashings of maple syrup….mmmm….brunch…

Brunch… thickly sliced crusty bread, with creamcheese, sticky balsamic, smoked salmon, capers and spring onions. Served with a hot coffee. Simply amazing.

My favourite Sunday bruch meal would be the Moroccan Tagine, possibly with some veges like pumpkin, sweet potatoes & capsicum, some lamb mince, topped with goats cheese & pinenuts. Oh, and don’t forget an egg on top – to make it more “breakfast-y”

    Beautiful.

There’s nothing like a simple stack for the sweet toothed! My favourite goes something like this….two pieces of lightly toasted sourdough (if i’m feeling really fancy, it’ll be the pecan and raisin loaf from Iggy’s), spread with a thin layer of jam, a generous layer of fresh ricotta on top of that, then a handful of blueberries and banana, and finally a sprinkle of freshly ground nutmeg on top. A coffee, the Saturday paper and 2 hrs up my sleeve and I’m set!

As a child, I was a great fan of my mum’s Crab Apple Jelly – on toast and on scones it was delicious! Was so excited to find it again in a shop in Darling Street Balmain – all my good intentions for weight loss during the holidays went out the window as I indulged in Crab Apple Jelly for brunch and the (more than)occasional afternoon tea. Yum!

    German brunch!:)

    -Crusty soft German rolls
    -Home made berry jams,
    - Fresh butter and home made garlic butter
    - Selection of cheeses and sliced meats purchased at 7.30am from the little market in the square (you have to be there early so you can hear all about the wild boar hunt and how the wild boar salami was made)
    - That organic Nutella that costs 10 Euro a jar
    - Eggs: boiled and scrambled with herb salt on the top
    - Yogurt with pureed fruits
    - Green and red bush teas
    - Espresso made from freshly ground beans (you have to use the wooden grinder)
    - Blackforest cake…or if it is Christmas, home made Stollen and the fruitiest fruit bread.

Yes, all of this does fit onto a table, but you need an extension table and you can’t forget the cute little table decorations and candles:) German brunch is a real experience and I miss it!

Growing up we had ‘traditional morning or afternoon tea’ (and now brunch) which was always scones with jam and cream and a cup of tea and even now I love it. It’s always been a family tradition anyway and one I now share with my two children (now that I have perfected making the cheese scone!!).

  • 218. Jenny | August 2nd, 2011 at 11:06 pm | #

Home made and still warm from the oven scones with lashings of a great strawberry jam, just like Anathoth does with whipped cream that you made your partner whip while you make a yummy coffee or tea to have whilst listening to some favourite music in the backyard on a sunny day. If the neighbours are having a sticky beak over the fence, then there is always enough for them, too.

  • 219. Tina | August 3rd, 2011 at 3:51 am | #

    My fave brunch would be:
    - salad: with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, olive, beetroot and sprinkled with cheese, with our special homemade onion dressing
    - poached egg and a sausage
    - some bread to dip =)

Well, I’m an absolute sucker for beautiful bread and actually drive 1.5 hrs to purchase my favourites from Brasserie Breads, Iggy’s and Bourke Street Bakery and Infinity. Gorgeous, jaw achingly chewy, crusty loaves. It would be so awful to be coeliac and not be able to enjoy these delicious delights. This divine Anathoth Jam would make it a taste sensation or I’m also partial to sourdough with smoked salmon. Wouldn’t knock either of those back :)

  • 224. Megadrama | August 3rd, 2011 at 4:12 pm | #

Favourite brunch is a toss up between eggs florentine, waffles, french toast, and pancake shake.

Going out for bunch is always a huge treat.

Best pancakes EVER were the ricotta pancakes at Bills in Surry Hills.

Best french toast EVER was at Stefano Manfredi’s cafe in Mildura.

But, the stay in brunch closest to my heart is when I first started having sleep overs at my partner’s place and he made me shake in the bottle pancakes which he called “Shake, Rattle, and Roll.”

That is why I would like to win an “Anathoth Brunch Pack” so we can shake, rattle and roll again and remember those first heady days of “New Love!”

  • 225. Doris | August 3rd, 2011 at 8:31 pm | #

THis is tough because I’ve had great Yum Cha brunches and wonderful pancakes but the best brunch for me was the last meal I had on a trip to visit my father in Toronto.

It was quite simple. A toasted bacon and cheese melt made with fantastic Canadian bacon, artisan cheddar and sourdough bread. A comforting, flavourful meal enjoyed alongside the fantastic company of family at Globe Bistro in Toronto.

  • 236. Georgina | August 5th, 2011 at 11:42 am | #

I think breakfast is the meal of the day, so there are plenty of options to offer up as my all-time favourite. Home made crumpets with jam and thick yoghurt; home made granola with frui compote and yoghurt; sourdough toast with eggs of any kind; or a chicken congee. As long as any of them are shared with my partner and daughter and a coffee, I’m happy!

  • 237. Jasmine Saldez | August 5th, 2011 at 12:56 pm | #

  • 238. Liz | August 5th, 2011 at 9:29 pm | #

I normally don’t like processed foods but a really quick and easy brunch is buying pre-made waffles, popping in the toaster, popping a liberal dose of your favourite jam on top (I had an amazing boysenberry one once!) and eating it whilst its still warm! If you’re filling a bit naughty, whipped cream also goes nicely ;)

What a funny coincidence, I take my 87 y.o. neighbour shopping each week and Roma (her name) has such an awareness of food. We noticed the Anathoth jams and checked them out last week. Roma was very impressed with the “quality” of the jams. I snuck a tub of the Fig jam (her favourite) and popped it into her groceries as a surprise. I have been invited to brunch with her tomorrow after she gets back from church, so I will make her some scones. Should be delish with the jam !!! Food is about people and love, always.

Really good scramble eggs, bacon, tomato, hot tea, toast and of course really buttery croissants with lots of strawberry or raspberry or cherry jam, yum oh. And even better if Dad makes it with the children.

PANCAKES! sweet or savory, they are the best brunch food, especially with organic maple syrup and bacon.

Then again I could eat pancakes for breakfast, brunch, elevenses, snacks, dinner, supper and then cold at 3am.

For brunch I love french toast filled with chocolate or nutella (which of course melts!) and bananas, with a soy mocha, or some OJ & champagne if we are celebrating something

Brunch is our family meal. Three generations come to our home and talk and laugh the day away. The food is always great as everybody brings a family favourite be it jam and scones or egg and bacon pie. Sunday brunch brings smiles and shared good times.

Brunch is buttered sourdough bread pushed into muffin tins. Then I make a mixture of eggs and milk with mashed sweet-potato. bake for 15 minutes and drizzle with Balsamic Glaze. Serve with a big glass of freshly squeezed Orange Juice.

  • 305. Lou | August 22nd, 2011 at 8:36 pm | #

Simple, hearty, healthy goodness does it for me with another friend or mum.

    Strong coffee
    Poached Eggs
    Smoked Salmon
Avocado (lots of pepper and tobasco)
Good chewy sourdough or that droolworthy miche bread from Sonoma

And then maybe a sweet treat such as toasted coconut bread with honey and ricotta. Or a yummy pastry.

Another coffee or tea rounds it up nicely!

I absolutely LOVE Monkey Bread on lazy Sunday mornings! I generally make it the night before, whack it in the fridge and when my tummy wakes me on Sunday morning I yell and scream at my hubby (a freakish early riser even on weekends – hello, like, yuck!) to put it in the oven and wake me again in 30 minutes. I just adore those little gooey nubbins of sweet and spicy dough that drip and ooze with buttery brown sugar goodness. Golly, I’m salivating just thinking of them…! Bring on the weekend :)

We have a B&B and one of the easiest dishes I do is Breakfast Skewers with fried eggs.
On soaked skewers you add layers of tomatoes, mushrooms, capsicum, bacon and par boiled sausages.
Can be cooked in a pan, under the grill or even the cafe press.
And best of all most can be prepared the night before
