Win 1 of 5 Wild Basket Gift Baskets Worth $100 Each!

Dearest Darling readers…have you noticed what I have lately? You know those tell tale white, red and silver decorations that have been dotting the shop displays and aisles? Yes that’s right, it’s almost Christmas-eeek! And if you like to give food as gifts as much as I do I have something great for you!

I used to live in the North Side and I know a lot of people north side say that they don’t have as much choice as on the other side of the bridge. In Neutral Bay on Grosvenor Street there are wine bars, restaurants, cafes and of course Australian food providore Wild Basket is keeping locals “local”.

Wild Basket opened its doors in January this year but there is something different about what Wild Basket stocks. Until now the Sydney deli scene was very much dominated by European products, however more and more shoppers are becoming focused on buying local. Owners Kristy & Trent Robinson have carefully selected each product. The couple had a strong passion for Australian food and a vision to bring all their favourite producers together under the one roof, focusing on Australia’s finest. The store showcases small-producer wine, artisan cheese, fresh Sonoma bread, preserves and even organic eggs are delivered fresh from the farm every week. There is an abundance of unique products!

The shop has a well-stocked cheese fridge in the corner and a book case housing some of Australia’s best cook books (including some very collectible signed titles from Adriano Zumbo, Matt Moran, Neil Perry, Sheridan Rogers, Luke Nguyen & Christine Manfield).

This Christmas they have beautifully presented gift baskets. Each one is bursting with unique, hand-crafted products of the highest quality but it is all Australian produce-no more tired looking shortbread and jams! You can also build your own basket by browsing the shelves and selecting your own delights, then let one of their team put it together for you. After shopping, finish off your food pilgrimage with an espresso using Bills Beans from Orange!

Thanks to Wild Basket, five lucky Not Quite Nigella readers will each win a gift basket filled with hand-crafted Australian products valued at $100 and each winner will also receive a $20 gift voucher to use in-store!

Each box will include:
A Taste of the Bush – Saltbush
Kurrajong Native Foods – Lilli Pilli Jam
Kakawa Chocolatiers – Rocky Road
Long Track Pantry – Red Onion Relish
Near River Produce -Rhubarb Lime and Ginger
The Curious Chocolatier – Strawberry and Sichuan Pepper
The Grape Alternative – Monster Mint and Chilli
Frou Frou – Grapefruit and Hibiscus
Country Harvest – Bush Fire Sauce

For a chance to win all you have to do is tell me what you want for Christmas! Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. The competition ends at midnight AEST on the 10th of December, 2011. You can enter this  competition once daily and it is open to anyone within Australia.

***The winners are:

Angela B. of Qld

Dale A. of NSW

Sarah H. of Qld

Leah S. of S.A.

Soph B. of Vic***

Best of luck!

Lots of love,

Lorraine

Why couldn’t I have been born Australian?

In any case, if I look at this basket much longer, it’s bound to turn me into one big, quivering puddle.

But, oh, it looks like a bit of heaven, right here on earth!

This Christmas I don’t want anything! My boyfriend is finally coming home for the holidays and I’ll be spending Christmas day with my entire family – I couldn’t ask for anything better!

If I won one of these gift baskets, it would definitely be shared on Christmas day! Plus, what better way to share Australia with your American boyfriend than with food and an Aussie Christmas :P

The shops/cafes/restaurants in Neutral Bay just keep improving. My sunglasses are scratched to buggery so to find a new pair under the tree would be fabulous.

Quite simply to get through the day as we, like others have had our share of tragedy and xmas has lost it’s sparkle. Our main focus will be to ensure that the children enjoy the day.

  • 11. Amanda Liddell | November 12th, 2011 at 7:38 am | #

Most of all I would love my whole family to share Christmas with me however this year my ‘children’ are heading off to spend Christmas interstate and overseas with their ‘inlaws’. It will be 2 Grandmas,my husband and myself so lets enjoy this time together with some indulgent goodies. Lobster tails with Murray River salt,Tetsuya’s smoked trout, relishes from Wild Basket and perhaps a zumba cake!!! We will relive the memories of all the children around the tree and enjoy the company of the 2 grand dames and it will be wonderful.

I would love to visit! I think I would put a real hurt on the wallet in their shop. But sadly I live in Texas and it’s a bit far maybe someday. It looks like you will have plenty of choices for Christmas gifts.

  • 17. Lizzy (Good Things) | November 12th, 2011 at 8:05 am | #

Yum, love the look of the Kakawa Rocky Road. What a great competition and beautiful prize. This year is the first time since the late 1970s that I will be celebrating Christmas in my own home. When my parents were alive, I always had Christmas with them until they moved to the south coast; then my (now ex) husband and I took our children to his sister’s home on Christmas Day and we travelled to my Mum and Dad’s on Boxing Day (my birthday). For the last six Christmas’s Peter and I have travelled to Kiama to visit his dear old Mum. This year, we have decided to stay put and celebrate Christmas at our place and I’m really looking forward to it. This will be the first time in six years that my son and daughter can have Christmas and/or my birthday with me. So, in a nutshell, all I want is peace and joy, and have my loved ones around me in my little nest on Christmas Day.

What I really want for Christmas is for my whole family to be together, which is a rare event these days. To share the spirit of the season and enjoy each others company with great food and wine and a sobering espresso coffee to top it off. That’s what I want for Christmas.

  • 51. Cheryl | November 12th, 2011 at 10:21 am | #

There is really nothing that I can say that I want (or need) I simply wish that I could have both of my (adult) children, their spouses and my grandchildren with me on Christmas Day. Happily I will spend Christmas Eve, and Christmas morning with my daughter and her family, however my son and his family will be in Cairns, where my son (who serves in the RAN) will be on duty some of Christmas and so can not join his sister and myself!
Isn’t that what every Mumm wishes?

  • 52. Alix | November 12th, 2011 at 10:23 am | #

Yummy! How wonderful to stay so local, and the store looks so inviting? Is there a cafe attached? No doubt they’d serve lovely coffee if the is! Oh and I’d love a Kindle for Christmas!

  • 53. EHA | November 12th, 2011 at 10:24 am | #

I am absolutely thrilled whenever I see more Australian products in the stores: more abilities for all of us to develop not only the marvellous fusion cooking which is giving Australia a world-wide reputation as a ‘foodie’ nation, but an increasing number of ways to develop our very own style of cooking! What do I want for Christmas : Above all I want to click on the TV and hear of no war casualties, no boatpeople killed in another accident on the seas, no bushfires at Yule set up by a sick idiot, no streetwars by gangs, no old people or children raped or murdered. And the politicians could stop commenting and give us a bit of a break! I would just like a warm and quiet Yuletide each of us can spend in our own way, saying at the end of the day: ‘This was a good one’ . . .

What a gorgeous looking shop and hamper! Fantastic to see some delicious and underrated Australian ingredients like lillipilli and hibiscus in the mix, too. I make a lillipilli relish and adore it – delicious with fruit mince pies at Chrissie!

Other than my usual Dear Santa fantasy that involves me inheriting some kind of deserted island in Bora Bora, a devastatingly handsome Sean Connery/George Clooney hybrid, and far too much lobstertail and butter than my cholesterol could take, this year I’d like pretty simple things for Christmas – good food and wine (maybe a bit of lobstertail after all), the family enjoying opening their pressies together, our homemade Christmas crackers (with rumballs and much better jokes inside), a post-lunch nap and a late afternoon swim at the beach. Oh, and I wouldn’t mind a new Mixmaster either.

P.S.: Am willing to bribe Rudolph and/or extort the elves to make this Bora Bora/Clooney thing happen.

I would love for Christmas to enjoy it with close family and friends and be able to have enough to share with families who don’t have enough including new migrants that come to Australia! We have just become aware of a family that have migrated legally from the Phillipeans to melbourne with two babies they have nothing in their flat, no fridge, washing machine or comforts they are we all so spoit and used to in Australia. We are contributing with friends to give goods ect but would love to win this and give them this as a Christmas Welcome to Australia!

  • 96. Jenny | November 12th, 2011 at 1:51 pm | #

    So very nice!

We’re leaving Australia after Christmas to move closer to family overseas. Since I’m packing up and giving away all my possessions, there’s really nothing I want – it won’t fit in my bag!

Just a happy, relaxed and delicious Christmas with friends, family and favourite foods will do me. The scent of gum trees, some Aussie bubbly and no bushfires!

  • 97. Lainey | November 12th, 2011 at 1:51 pm | #

All I want for Christmas is for the family to get together whether it be Christmas Day or Boxing Day. Have to share the families around and take turns for Christmas Day.

On feb. 2nd my granddaughter 18 killed, leaving a 1 year old. last week, before her 19th birthday her mother died. Her mum wanted to take ashes and scatter with help of granddaughter, we now have had to scatter both mother and daughter together, so just to get thru xmas would be wonderful, considering I have spina bifida. I love reading your p ages, and do some cooking from them as well.

Love to all!

  • 115. SueB | November 12th, 2011 at 3:37 pm | #

For Christmas I want my retirement to finally come true. Three times I have retired and three times have gone back for emergencies that have extened to years, but no more – my garden and kitchen are calling me.
If Santa pleases – he could finish my kitchen with a lovely splashback behind my stove – I did plan on making a glass one myself – but yes you are right – who am I kidding!
NQN that basket has just everything uniquely Australian – a great gift for a new Aussie – or an old one !
    Cheers to all from SueB

I wish for my sister-in-law and her daughter, my beautiful niece, to come to the dinner table without blame or shame, without malice or contempt, with the love I know is there, even though it is very deep down and neither likes to bring it to the surface. If that wish could come true, then I know there WOULD be peace on earth.

I have a list of food related books as long as my arm (everything from Heston to cuisine specific to dessert/baking to RAW recipes).

I’d also love a new handbag and wallet – mine were stolen earlier this year and I haven’t found replacements yet. I’ve been using a plastic ziplock bag as a purse since then!

My point and shoot camera was in the handbag when it was stolen…a replacement would be handy too. I have my eye on the smallish cameras with changeable lenses – I really want to start a food blog and need something better than a point and shoot but not a huge slr!

I don’t expect to get anything though – we struggle a bit around christmas so don’t go crazy with gifts. The chance to spend the day relaxing at the beach with my husband with some delicious food would make me more than happy!

A financially bad marriage years ago left me up the creek without a paddle: it would feel unreal not to owe heaps to the banks . . . Santa, listening :) ?

Sooo much more impressive than the standard Christmas hampers you see around with stuff that nobody really wants to eat anyway. I love this push for exploring & utilising native & local produce. Australia has so much to offer that is unique to us :)
For Christmas I want a macro lens for my DSLR & an orange handbag :)

  • 200. Maid In Australia | November 14th, 2011 at 4:41 am | #

All I want for Christmas is to wake up with my kids on Christmas Day, and spend the day with them. The family law court has given them to my ex this year (I’ll have next year). I know we’ll make our own Christmas but it will still not be the same.

  • 201. Matilda | November 14th, 2011 at 6:03 am | #

I planted a Lilli Pilli tree years ago in the hope of making Lilli Pilli Jam but that never really eventuated, would love to win this Wild Basket hamper to taste it and all of the native food delights.
This Christmas , I’m requesting cooking, pastry or anything relating to food classes from my family. I know that they’re not cheap but my birthday falls on Boxing day so I’m happy if I receive it as a combined present! :-)

For Christmas, as for the past couple of years, I’m really looking forward to giving my niece and nephew their presents, and watching their faces as they open them. Two years ago I gave them, each, a big jar of Jelly Belly jelly beans. It was priceless to see their mother’s face as well!
But anyhow, why are we talking of Christmas – it’s only November!!!

    Dear Lorraine

    What a fantastic prize!

I’m spending this Christmas with my mum visiting my mum’s best friend and her son, a childhood friend who I haven’t seen for 15 years, in NYC! So what more do I want for Christmas? Some excellent food – I’ve been doing my research on NYC eats alright? ;)

Ohh this looks so yummy! The thing on the top of my Christmas list is Chanel red lipstick, it’s so devine but I always think it’s too expensive to buy for myself so I’ve asked for it from Santa!
My new years resolution is to lose the 7 kilos I was supposed to lose this year and dismally failed at *sigh* pity I don’t enjoy jogging as much as baking!

So for Christmas, Id like to be a little kid again!…………………
failing that, Id really like to try that Aussie Bush Fire Sauce, I’m a bit of a chilli fiend and would love to apply that sauce to my ham glaze this Christmas and spice things up a bit!
P.S. Seasons Greetings to all! (I cant believe it’s only 6 weeks till Christmas!! Eeek!!)

I like surprises but what I would really like is an old fashioned Christmas of my childhood – presents were few and simple and we looked forward to the Christmas Lunch all year – it was the only time we had chicken in those days. The men drank beer from large bottles (no cans then)and the wine was Orlando Sparkling Wine – I can picture the one bottle on the table. The kids had some home delivered soft drink – my mum saved all year for these simple treats and my dad grew most of the vegetables and raised our own chickens. Our christmas tree was real and the lights were made from saved coloured lolly papers (cellephane) in many colours and were wrapped around old torch bulbs all joined on wire and hooked up to a large battery – we felt very special. It was truly a time for family and not materialistic like today. These were Christmases that would never be forgotten. So as much as I would like to go backwards sadly I know I can not but I would really love to be able to revisit those days again with my family altogether once more.

We do have a few good stores here in Canberra, like ones in the Fyshwick markets. But what I’d like for Christmas is for there to be more opening next year in Canberra! :>

When ever I am asked this question I always say “nothing really” I have everything I would ever need – so just my family around me is all I want BUT this year if anyone askes eg Santa I would say I would love an IPad. You see I love recipes and cooking and I have many many recipe books from the 1920′s to modern day, however I only seem to source my recipes now from the internet and particularly from sites like this one and David Lebovitz for example and to have my internet recipes on hand in my kitchen would be a real dream not to mention the 1000′s of novels I could access to read. This does sound very extravagent doesn’t it – Oh well I guess I can dream.

I don’t like my chances in winning this comp, but you have to be in it to win it! Christmas this year will be tough but I am resolved to make the most of it. I have had the privilege to have resided in Sydney and Singapore over the last two years supporting my two children through a four year divorce settlement that now finds me back at my roots in down-town Brisbane living with Mum and Dad. My wish for a family Christmas is a lost cause as all will be overseas…so this basket of aussie treats would be a lovely surprise for Mum Dad and I to share as we will most undoubtedly reminisce the memories of Christmases past and toast to a new year of new dreams and ambitions.

Hmmm, where do I start and how long have you got?! A nanny, maid, butler, masseuse, chauffeur, pool boy – oh wait I’d also need a pool, oh and a nice home to match, so then I’d need all the trimmings that come with a large home, um, while we’re at it world peace and an end to world hunger would be right up there near the top. But hey, I’m not greedy, I really would be happy with a gift basket. Very happy!!!! :)

To experience the vivid smell of roasting turkey, crisp skins on roast potato, baked parsnips and thick gravy. To hear the laughter and idiotic giggles of my siblings watching grandad fall asleep in the middle of filling his pipe. The sounds and the smells of Christmas as a kid, how I miss them so.

I’d like to keep it simple – just watching my children open their presents, and enjoy giving to others is enough of a present. But if you must indulge in presents for mum, a pasta machine, so that my 2 little helpers can enjoy the thrill of home made pasta, made by us!

OooOoO, I totes wanna be swept away on a romantic getaway! Just once I dream of my husband being overcome with emotion and making wild crazy plans that involve masses of rose petals, oozing liquid filled chocolates, open fires, shag pile rugs, sparkling wine and one of those ridiculously amazing beds with all the adorable netting… Super sigh tho as I know I’ll be lucky if my man wakes up before midday and even remembers where he hid my present – which I have already discovered in the clothes dryer – I guess it may be an inventive hiding place for those of us who do not actually participate in any household chores…

Anyway, I can always hope for that grand gesture but I do know that I will enjoy that late morning Christmas Day snuggle and open that gift voucher to Bras ‘n’ Things with surprise and just continue to love my most unromantic husband just as he will continue to love me.

All I want this Christmas is a donation to charity for someone who REALLY needs it.
There are many families who cannot afford a proper Christmas dinner, let alone presents for their children. They may be living in your city or even in your street.
Don’t get me wrong – I love presents like most people but I realise Christmas is also an opportunity to care for others.
