Win a $170 Voucher For A Christmas in July Dinner With Trippas White!

What’s your favourite holiday of the year? Perhaps, Easter with chocolate and the four day weekend might feature somewhere. For me it’s a toss up between ghoul’s day aka Halloween and Christmas. Alas Christmas comes around only once a year but here you can also celebrate Christmas in July where we celebrate the cold weather by eating delicious roast turkey and pudding with custard instead of our usual Christmas fare of fresh seafood and beaches. And do I have a Christmas in July meal for you!

The Trippas White team are behind the food of Sydney’s most well known restaurants. Their Sydney venues are the Art Gallery of NSW Restaurant, Botanic Gardens restaurant, 360 Bar & Dining, Sydney Tower Buffet, Centennial Parklands Dining, Sydney Mint Cafe,  The Pavilion and also Watt Restaurant and Bar in Brisbane. This July, they have a special two course Christmas menu with an array of festive Christmas dishes. Some of the Christmas menu items are: roast guinea fowl with caramelised parsnip puree and pear and mustard chutney; ox‐tail pie with yorkshire pudding; roast turkey breast with sage and mushroom stuffing and cranberry jus, slow roasted crackling pork belly with balsamic apples and cannellini beans; and cherry glazed leg ham. Dessert includes steamed maple sponge with brandy anglaise, almond biscuit and champagne steeped figs; traditional Christmas pudding with brandy custard; rum & raisin bread and butter pudding with cinnamon ice‐cream; mince pie with fresh berried and cream; and warm sticky date pudding with berries and cream finished with a glass of glühwein.

Thanks to Trippas White, one lucky Not Quite Nigella reader  will win a $170 voucher to use at any of the Trippas White venues for their very own Christmas in July meal during the month of July! For a chance to win, all you have to do is  tell me which dish, main or dessert, from the above you like the sound of most ! Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. The competition is a short one as this is a July only offer and ends at midnight AEST on the 8th of July, 2012. You can enter this competition once daily and it is open to anyone within Australia. Transport to and from the venue is not included and any remaining value not spent on the day will not be given as cash and will be forfeited (a good excuse to have another dessert, bring a friend or have some more wine! ;) ).

Best of luck!

Lots of love,

Lorraine

OMG, Lorraine, that photo is INCREDIBLE. I don’t think a food stylist could have made it more appetizing and beautiful. Nice job!
I know I can’t win, but I just love reading your blog so I can’t resist commenting.
We’re celebrating Canada’s 145th birthday on July 1. And we’re away on the weekend, so if I miss a post, I apologize in advance. I’ll for sure be back to read up. Have a great weekend. XOXO

Hi Lorraine, This is another choose-your-favourite-child dilemma. Hmm. However, the guinea fowl sounds too too scrumptious!

The traditional christmas pudding with brandy custard sounds divine! Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year primarily because we get to eat pudding (oh and spend time with family etc) :P

  • 4. Fiona | June 30th, 2012 at 7:21 am | #

The slow roasted crackling pork belly sounds divine, especially in this cold weather. I can’t go past crackling! I’m also now craving the Christmas pudding and brandy custard. I’m glad to see Watt in Brisbane is taking part, they are a pretty awesome restaurant :)

  • 5. Annie | June 30th, 2012 at 7:27 am | #

You had me at rum & raisin!! I love anything with that combo and I always prefer sweets over savory so I would love to try the rum and raisin bread and butter pudding!

  • 6. sally | June 30th, 2012 at 7:36 am | #

It all sounds scrumptious, but I would have to go with the Christmas pudding with brandy custard. One of the best parts of Christmas is the pudding : )

  • 7. Hailey | June 30th, 2012 at 7:53 am | #

Oh, how lovely. The guinea fowl with parsnip & pear has got me hungry (and it’s 7:55am!) and I love the sound of the sticky date with gluhwein. I might go anyway, winner or not!

  • 8. Belinda | June 30th, 2012 at 7:56 am | #

    You have the best comps..

My attention was captured by this
” steamed maple sponge with brandy anglaise, almond biscuit and champagne steeped figs”

so many alluring elements, but the figs really do it for me.

Im mad for anything with figs right now… fresh or dried.

  • 9. Michelle | June 30th, 2012 at 7:59 am | #

I would have to say the glühwein appeals to me the most.. reminds me of Xmas markets in Cologne, Germany, where you get a Santa mug of glühwein , and walk around each of the stores filling it up again when you’ve finished!

  • 15. Hotly Spiced | June 30th, 2012 at 8:21 am | #

I like the sound of the guinea fowl because it’s not something I cook (better honesty would be that I have never cooked a guinea fowl). I’m currently organising a Christmas in July dinner at a friend’s house in a few weeks time – it will be the first time I’ve been to a Christmas in July and I’m really looking forward to it xx

  • 16. Louise B | June 30th, 2012 at 8:22 am | #

OMG!! This would be awesome to win!!! I’m an Irish ex-pat who’s been living in Australia for 7 years now. My most favourite holiday season is Christmas and I really struggle with celebrating Christmas in summer!

My favourite dish(es) from the above menu would have to be the roast turkey breast with sage and mushroom stuffing and cranberry jus, but I’d also love a little cherry glazed ham on the side! Mmmm just like my Mum serves at home!!

I haven’t had a Christmas in winter since my last visit home to visit my folks in 2009. This would be an awesome prize as hubby can hopefully whisk me to Sydney for a weekend treat … As a last adult only getaway before our first baby arrives in September!!

Only 177 sleeps to Christmas everyone!!! :D

As much as I’m tempted by the pork belly, I have to choose the Guinea fowl. They are the funniest bird I’ve ever seen- and they sure do taste delicious :)

  • 33. Rebecca | June 30th, 2012 at 11:28 am | #

Obviously, I’d have to say a dessert would have to be my fav; the warm sticky date pudding with berries and cream to be precise ;)

Being from England although here for over 30 years I do miss the traditional roast turkey breast with sage and onion stuffing and cranberry. I get so nostalgic at Christmas when I smile at my children and husband and guests all devouring BBQ prawns, avocado salad and yummy melt in the mouth medium rare fillet steaks. I just dream of the roast turkey but with this prize I need not hide my feelings for a super duper Christmas in July. Bring it on! Yummiferous! Cheers.

  • 41. Dirtgirl | June 30th, 2012 at 12:39 pm | #

Yummo, definitely the oxtail pie with Yorkshire pudding. Memories of a childhood in UK, Mum knew how to turn any cheap cut of meat into amazing meals for us 5 hungry kids in the 50′s. She never consulted a recipe book either, as she had been ‘in service’ from the age of 15, so had a magnificent array of recipes, all in her head!

As one who was very accustomed to Christmas in the winter when it is cold and gets dark at 4:30pm, I like the idea of Christmas in July. Easter just doesn’t do it for me. Christmas = presents and a boat parade and parties.

He loves pork, which I am not the best cook of, so I would love to win this prize and take him to the Centenial Parklands dining so he can enjoy some slow roasted crackling pork belly with balsamic apples and cannellini beans and Christmas cheer in July as he spends November and December spreading Christmas cheer for lots of other people.

Traditional Christmas pudding with brandy custard – beautiful memories of my nan’s pudding and her ‘limit’ of brandy in the custard she used to make. The brandy was always saved for ‘medicinal purposes’ when she needed a nip!

  • 69. Kelly Young | June 30th, 2012 at 10:01 pm | #

I am abit of a sweet tooth myself so I think the Sticky date pudding with berries and cream sounds like a sticky, gooey, caramelly warm dessert surprise with the addition of the berries and gluhwein, salivating just thinking about it.

Needless to say, i always have to watch someone else (feathered) enjoy them. But did once ate a green one to spite them. Yummy!

All the desserts sound to-die-for, but I’m actually in a savoury mood and could not go past the ‘roast turkey breast with sage and mushroom stuffing and cranberry jus’. I couldn’t think of anything more scrummy (yummy + scrumptious), hearty & warming for my palate & soul in this chilly weather.

  • 100. Corrie | July 2nd, 2012 at 1:17 pm | #

Being that my better half is English, Christmas in July is always a highlight in our calendar. Perfect weather for a opulent roast dinner with sticky pud.
From the menu I was going to say the oxtail pie with Yorkshire pudding, cause any day when someone will make you Yorkshire pudding is like Christmas to me, but have to say tradition reigns supreme and it would have to be the turkey breast with sage stuffing – all the more tastier in knowing I won’t be doing the washing up after!

  • 101. Mariah | July 2nd, 2012 at 1:43 pm | #
