Win 1 of 10 Double Passes To Dilmah’s Charitea High Tea Event!

Do you feel that warmth in the air? Oh yes that’s the much yearned-for peachy blush of Spring coming up! Time to throw off the wooly layers and snuggly quilts and time to put on a frock. And do I have an occasion for you ;) It’s time for Dilmah’s Charitea event! This year, they’re holding two Charitea events, one in Sydney and one in Melbourne.

Hosted by Peter Kuruvita, the Sydney high tea is held at The Langham (formerly The Observatory Hotel) on Wednesday September 12th, 2012. In Melbourne, the event will be held at The Terrace at the Royal Botanical Gardens on Monday the 3rd of September, 2012. The event is to raise money for the MJF Foundation or the Merrill J. Fernando Foundation which was set up to benefit the underprivileged as well as nature conservation. Over the years they’ve helped tens of thousands of children better their lives.

The high tea will feature sandwiches, scones, sweet tarts, savoury goodies as well as two of their award winning recipes: an Orange and Almond Tea Baklava and a Green Tea with Jasmine Smoked Duck Breast with CeleriacRemoulade on Brioche Toast.

This year it is invite only but thanks to Dilmah, I have 5 double passes to give away Stop the presses! We now have 10 double passes to win to either the Sydney or Melbourne Charitea event! For a chance to win, all you have to do is tell me what your favourite type of tea is and how you have it and please don’t forget to tell me whether you would like to go to the Sydney or Melbourne event! And because the events are on soon, this competition duration is for one week only and ends at 5pm, the 31st of August!  Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. You can enter this competition once daily and it is open to anyone within Australia but transport to and from the venue is not included.

Good luck!

Love,

Lorraine

I love lapsang souchong which I believe is not yet available chez Dilmah; I quite like their orange pekoe blend – strong and elegant. Would love to be at the Sydney event. Thank you

I have recently tried licorice tea and it is delicious!!! I have an organic one, which I believe is great for a sweet tooth to relieve some cravings (although doesn’t always work) and is good for fatigue, cold and flu and soothing the stomach…and its yummy! Get into it!

    Would love tickets to Sydney!

My tea of choice rose Earl Grey tea, which is a subtle, smooth and aromatic twist on the traditional. I love it with some afternoon pick me ups, like butter tea cake or lamingtons. Definitely helps them go down easier :)

I love all types of tea and probably drink way too many cups each day! My favourite would have to be a simple green tea and mint with a little squeeze of honey. Lovely :) I would love to go to the Sydney High Tea, it sounds amazing!

  • 10. Ashly | August 25th, 2012 at 7:45 am | #

My friends know I love tea so for my birthday, I got 2 of my favourite teas from T2 (green with rose and gorgeous geisha), a cup from Sri Lanka and a floating octopus tea infuser. What’s funny is they didn’t arrange it amongst themselves! I’m loving the green with rose it’s got the most amazing smell which comes from the mango, currents, rose petals and papaya. I add a bit of cold water, boil the hot water (to get it around 80 degrees)and then put the infuser on top and take it out after 2 mins. The lady at T2 suggested 1/3 cold and the rest hot as green tea leaves burn and can taste bitter at high temperatures.

  • 11. Belinda | August 25th, 2012 at 7:45 am | #

I love the softer versions of Earl Grey like Lady Grey, Lavender Grey etc. T2 blue mountain tea is also a particular favorite. Dilmah English breakfast is also particularly good. I’d love to go to the Melbourne one, sounds fabulous :)

Lorraine, I am not participating (well, when are you going global?!) :) but just need to tell you how beautiful your photos are! I love that elegant tea setting… I think I need to travel to Australia to get me one, or at least England… :)

  • 13. Heidi Burton | August 25th, 2012 at 8:00 am | #

Well, which tea is my favourtie. So many to choose from. *Sigh. OK, I know, there is one tea that reminds me of my childhood. Sitting with my Grandma Cammie watching the river drift by as the horses grazed in the field. That tea was called Constant Comment. It has this heady smell of all things warm and sweet with a hint of orange. When I had a hard day of training on my horses, I would always end the day with just one cup of perfecty steeped Constant Comment with just a spoonful of sugar or huckleberry honey. Heaven. This is my comfort tea. A tea that we purchase in the US and bring over here for those special winter days that just require a great comforting tea. NQN-I would love to go to the Sydney Charity Event!!!

I love English Breakfast Tea for breakfast, lunch and tea…and in between!

I’m not sure how it works but tea can wake you up in the morning, give you a boost during the day and be calming and sleep inducing at night.

Relaxing or invigorating, tea’s an integral part of my life!

We would LOVE to go to Sydney

  • 15. Louise | August 25th, 2012 at 8:15 am | #

It’s hard to choose one favourite tea – with numerous in the cupboard for different times of day – i love rooibos or nettle for a herbal afternoon. But the first cup of tea in the morning – the most important – has to be earl grey. Taken strong with a dash of soy milk.

  • 16. Louise | August 25th, 2012 at 8:16 am | #

    And sorry Sydney please :)

  • 17. Clare | August 25th, 2012 at 8:16 am | #

I love the Dilmah execptional range my favourite is their Rose with French Vanilla which I enjoy black in a glass mug late in the afternoon. Even though I live in Qld I would love to go to the event in Melbourne as I can take my beautiful well deserving Mother-in Law

  • 18. Roslyn R | August 25th, 2012 at 8:29 am | #

I like most teas, dependant on the time of day & circumstance; cant go past my Dilmah extra stong to start the day & any time during the day when I am at home; but when out & about I love an iced tea on a hot day; Earl Grey for a spot of afternoon tea at a cafe; I have been drinking tea for as long as I can remember, it is my fondest memory of my mum both of us sitting at the kitchen table in our dressing gowns having a pot of tea….

  • 19. Jodene | August 25th, 2012 at 8:29 am | #

I would love to attend in Sydney! Tea is something relatively new to me (I know where have I been) and I’m loving the herbal teas, currently Peppermint is my favourite and I like it with a splash of fresh lime. I would love to attend the fundraiser, thanks for the chance.

  • 26. Sylvia | August 25th, 2012 at 8:41 am | #

What a lovely giveaway Lorraine. Wow, some of the teas mentioned in the pervious comments sound so good I can see that I’m going to have to try some.
I’m a coffee drinker from way back when I was first allowed to partake of ‘adult’ drinks and my memories of tea are of my mum drinking steaming hot tea at breakfast time and ‘dunking’ buttered toast into it – yuk! However, in recent years I’ve come around to the enjoyable pastime of partaking of a refreshing cup of tea. I’ve come to enjoy Earl Grey with lemon and honey (no muddying it up with milk) and recently discovered the Dilmah Green tea with Lemongrass which is not only refreshing but also very good for you. In Thailand for my daughter’s wedding a couple of years ago I tried ginger tea with a gorgeous sugar syrup and really enjoyed that. So, even tho’ I still love a cup of coffee, I now have another passion.
Should I be lucky enough to receive tickets to the High Tea, the Sydney Event would be my choice.

  • 27. Shaz | August 25th, 2012 at 8:46 am | #

I love chai tea made the traditional way. Heat water on a pan, add chai tea along with a bit of sugar or honey, a piece of ginger, cardamom and cinnamon and milk. Boil. Strain and drink. Yuuuum. Perfect on a cold wintery day.

  • 28. Steph | August 25th, 2012 at 8:47 am | #

Hello. I won’t enter as live in Perth but Heidi’s description of Constant Comment tea made me interested so I googled it. You can buy it from Amazon and other places – has orange rind and spices – sounds lovely.

    Hello,

that sounds amazing! I am definitely tea person, love almost any kind of tea, good black tea with a bit of lemon or milk in the morning, iced rosehip and hibiscus tea during a day and rosted brown rice green tea with a bit of milk or pu erh tea in the afternoon :)
I would love to go to the Sydney event, thank you for this opportunity!

  • 33. Matilda | August 25th, 2012 at 9:14 am | #

Oh wow, how I love, love, love my High Tea and this one from Dilmah sounds exquisite and extra special as it’s a fundraiser.
Well as you know Lorraine, I’m a big coffee freak but I do like my tea as well. In fact, I don’t arise if hubby hasn’t brought me a steaming cup of Dilmah Darjeeling with one tsp. of sugar and milk to rouse me.It’s my favourite brew followed by Earl Grey.
One day I would love to holiday in an exotic Tea Estate sitting high above sea level in either Sri Lanka or India and look across the undulating green plantations.Simply watching the world go by! :-)
    Sydney venue please.

Rose flavoured tea or any blend of green tea without caffeine. I add just a drop of milk and 1 sugar to take the edge off. I love toast with rose petal jam with my tea… Beautiful.

My favourite tea? Now thats a tough one…. English breakfast white & sweet is my prefered morning tea. It wakes me up & gets me going. For the afternoon I love a cup of Dilmahs Rose with French Vanilla unless I am stressed & then it is a comforting cup of Chammomile…& when I am sick I can’t go past a cup of Lemon tea with honey.

  • 40. Christie | August 25th, 2012 at 9:30 am | #

I love fragrant jasmine tea – and no need for the tea strainer, just sprinkle a few leaves in, add hot water, and watch the flowers and leaves come to life!

  • 41. Maureen | August 25th, 2012 at 9:32 am | #

What beautiful photos and a lovely event. Maybe one day they’ll do one in Brisbane. :)

  • 42. Meredith | August 25th, 2012 at 9:42 am | #

I love a nice hot cup of Rooibos tea, which I fell in love with when I lived in South Africa. I usually have it plain but my South African friend taught me to steep it with a stick of cinnamon – it gives a wonderful flavour!
I simply adore high teas; I had one for my 21st birthday, complete with scones, cinnamon tea cake, and very wobbly looking macarons. I would squeal if I had the opportunity to go to this Charitea in Melbourne :) Thanks for an amazing giveaway!

  • 43. InTolerant Chef | August 25th, 2012 at 9:50 am | #

Dilmah Earl Grey is a no-brainer for me! I would even travel all the way to Sydney for a decent cuppa :)

  • 44. Trish | August 25th, 2012 at 10:03 am | #

My favourite cuppa would be the one someone else makes for me! Something that goes back to a child where dad would wake me every morning with a cup of tea and always in a cup. I do like all tea but I too have recently discovered the licorice one and also chai. How spoiled would I be to be sitting at High Tea.

    Sydney please.
Thank you to you and Dilmah.

My afternoon indulgence, which also helps to combat the 3:30pm sugar cravings and NOT add on any calories, is the Dilmah Exceptional range – Rose with French Vanilla Real Leaf Tea – Black and Strong of course!
I would be so grateful for the Melbourne Charitea Experience!

My go to tea is always cammomile. Boring I know, but it’s very soothing.

  • 52. Eva | August 25th, 2012 at 10:34 am | #

My husband and I discovered the joy of blending teas for ourselves 15 years ago. We’re also huge fans of preparing tea in teapots. Back in the day, my favourite was a mix of Twinings’ Prince of Wales and Princess Mary. We also discovered a tea and coffee wholesaler in Castle Hill where we go a bit crazy twice a year and love that we can purchase our favourite blends in KILO bags. Over the years, however, we’ve developed a ritual that starts with Dilmah, Extra Strength paired with whatever we’re in the mood for. The Dilmah Exceptional series has a number of lovely flavours but the ones we always keep on hand are Berry Sensation and Italian Almond teas. I would love to surprise my husband with an invitation to the high tea in Sydney, Lorraine! Thanks so much for giving your readers the opportunity to attend.

  • 53. Jadey | August 25th, 2012 at 10:35 am | #

My favourite tea is a chai latte rich and creamy and sweet. I love them. And I’d love to go to the Sydney event.

  • 54. Annette | August 25th, 2012 at 10:39 am | #

Hi Lorraine! My favourite tea is rose petal, it’s dainty and girly, perfect for afternoons with the girls! Also a tip; if you get the chocolate tea from one of those tea places you can mix them together to make Turkish delight tea! Delicious and almost calorie free! I’d love to take my sister to the Sydney High Tea day. Thanks! Annette.

  • 55. Elizabeth | August 25th, 2012 at 10:41 am | #

We absolutely must start every day with a plain ordinary “cup of Dilmah tea” which we love!
Later in the day a refreshing cup of Green Tea, but my cupboard always has an extra box of “Dilmah – the single origin tea” so we never run out. Would really love the High Tea in Sydney please.

Since am unable to be in the competition would just like to say I loved your description of our surrounds as having a ‘peachy blush’ at the moment :D ! A lovely and valid description indeed! And I drink coffee and wine and lots of water, and, boringly perchance, plain green tea!!

  • 59. Paulina | August 25th, 2012 at 10:57 am | #

I love English Breakfast tea, strong, sweet, with low fat milk and I find that full cream milk spoils the tea flavour. I would love to attend in Melbourne. thanks :)

I love Monk Pear from t2 or the amazing tea that I bought in Darjeeling directly from the Happy Valley Tea Estate – so much flavour with such little servings, economical (minus flights etc of course) and delicious. I drink tea day and night to get through hours of study or just make a lazy movie night that little bit better! Sydney would be great if the amazing happens and I win!

The Sydney high tea sounds amazing! I love and normally drink Jasmine green tea just straight, but English Breakfast with a splash of milk and just a little bit of honey is also a winner. Adding chewy pearls makes it similar to the milk teas you can get at Easyway which makes it all the more fun! :D

I’m too tempted by the bewildering variety of teas available these days to select an absolute favorite.
For me, it’s more about going with the ‘that sounds interesting’ choice and very much depends on the who and where of the shared tea experience.
The Langham in Sydney would certainly hit the spot.

I would love to experience a Sydney High Tea. Have never been before and think this would be a beautiful experience to share with someone whom loves their tea too. I love Breakfast tea as it is always refreshing both in the morning and afternoon. It seems to sooth the stress from you and relaxes myself.

    Hi Lorraine,
One of my favourite teas is the Dilmah Strawberry tea, which with a bit of milk tastes just like a strawberry cream sweet, to pep up my workday. As for the high tea – my flatmate and I are on a quest to try every high tea in Sydney (and the rest of the world if we are travelling together) but have not yet tried The Langham so we would love to add this to the list :) Also, I would love the chance to meet you (assuming you will be there) as you are such an inspiration!

  • 94. Cassandra H | August 25th, 2012 at 4:53 pm | #

Rose and Vanilla…the most romantic and soul soothing tea i drink. When i drink this tea i am convinced i am in Paris, sitting closely to the love of my life and enjoying the splendors of the world. Shame i a single and sitting at home on my own. lol.
I would travel to Sydney or Melbourne for the experience :)
    Thank you.

  • 101. Deborah | August 25th, 2012 at 5:40 pm | #

Sunday afternoon tea time is a treasured ritual for my mum and I.

As we felt life get busier and busier around us, we made a pact two years ago that every Sunday we will share a pot of JASMINE GREEN TEA together and catch up. I would pour the green tea leaves into my mothers favourite purple teapot and set up the tea cups while my mum slices an assortment of cakes. Then we would both sit on the couch and exchange everything that was on our minds from our concerns to funny anecdotes. I would love to take my mum to High Tea in Sydney and make our weekly mother-daughter teatime more special!

  • 111. Liwen | August 25th, 2012 at 7:20 pm | #

My favorite has to be the earl grey tea, especially in baked goodies! It is also enjoyable on its own with a dash of milk, particularly during tea time. I would be thrilled if i could go for the sydney high tea.

My dear mother, who is a tea lover, introduced me to the Dilmah Ceylon Orange Pekoe tea a few years ago and I got hooked ever since. I absolutely love the Dilmah Ceylon Orange Pekoe tea and drink it daily in a variety of ways. In autumn and winter I drink it hot on its own, and also with milk and honey. In summer I make ice tea and granita which the whole family loves. Delicious!

The Dilmah Charitea event at the Langham Hotel Sydney is for a great cause being the Merrill J Fernando Foundation. It would be a privilege attending this prestigious event with my mother as we would treasure every moment of it.

Oops forgot to say would prefer Sidney

  • 135. Isabel | August 25th, 2012 at 10:53 pm | #

I drink a few different teas from Dilmah, one is the Ceylon Supreme, another is the Green Moroccan Mint and the other is the Jasmine Green.

My favourite daily tea is the Dilmah Ceylon Supreme which is deliciously strong yet not bitter and is smooth easy drinking. Most of the time I drink it straight black and sometimes with a bit of milk.

The Dilmah Green Moroccan Mint and the Dilmah Jasmine Green are my favourite teas for summer where I usually have them as iced tea.

To attend the beautiful Dilmah Charitea event at the Langham Hotel Sydney would be truly special for me.

Peter Kuruvita and high tea? That’s awesome!

I like it simple – just a cup of plain organic green tea and always after lunch at work. It really helps with digestion and I’m less likely to reach for the candy bar/potato chip box/Nescafe later in the afternoon :)

I’m in Melbourne but would not say ‘no’ to Sydney tickets as it’ll give me a legit excuse to go there again soon :D

Being Asian I drink copious amounts of Chinese tea. Pu erh, jasmine, green tea… But for something special it’s home saucepan brewed loose leaf chai with full cream milk, soy milk, honey & brown sugar. Mmm…Liquid gold

  • 165. Ashly | August 26th, 2012 at 10:05 pm | #

Other than the T2 loose leaf teas, my favourite tea depends on how I’m feeling. In the morning I always have a rosehip or green tea because it makes me feel awake and fresh. At night I like a chamomile especially after a shower before bed (so comforting). When I’m sick it has to be lemon/honey/ginger tea, especially for a sore throat (I also add boiled asian pear as my grandma used to do that for me and it’s supposed to help).

    Sydney tickets would be amazing!

I love many different tea flavours as the deepness of each one tickles my senses. But I find that when I really crave for tea, I always go back to the good old leafy Japanese green tea (sencha). Green tea is light and refreshing and I find the slight bitterness quite soothing. I like to have it with almond biscuits or a slice of cake while reading a book. :)

Would love to get tickets to the Melbourne event! Thanks Lorraine!

I absolutely adore this tea called Sencha Peach. My friend overseas asked if I could buy her some to send over, so when I did, I bought a pack for myself (purely for research purposes, of course!). I’m so glad I did, because it’s light, fragrant, the fruitiness is not overpowering at all, and you don’t feel like you need to add sugar to it (like most other fruit iced teas).
I’d love to sample Dilmah’s teas at the Sydney high tea please.
    xoxo

My favourite tea is Marco Polo by Mariage Freres. It is a fruity flavoured black tea which i prefer black no sugar. I bought it in Paris at my first visit to a mariage freres shop, standing in wonderment in front of their wall of tea and trying to choose, my nose assailed by a heady fragrance of tea, and whenever I drink it, I am filled with fond memories of going to the store. I would love to go to the Sydney event!

I love rooibos tea with honey. It’s caffeine free which is important for me and is also full of antioxidants..oh plus it tastes great! Sydney Please:)

  • 188. Joanne | August 27th, 2012 at 3:27 pm | #

Have a new favorite tea as of a couple of weeks ago- it’s Australian Afternoon Tea. The beauty is you can drink it all day, not just in the morning. I drink it with just a dash of milk and half a teaspoon of sugar. Melbourne please. Thank you.

  • 189. Mish | August 27th, 2012 at 3:48 pm | #

Lately my favourite type of tea is Chai, made with regular cow’s milk and a bit of honey on the side. Although, my all time favourite would have to be English Breakfast with a splash of milk, it’s always so refreshing. Melbourne event please!

A cup of Japanese Genmaicha (Japanese brown rice tea) with the delicious smell of roasted brown rice is the most comforting way to relax!

Like a good friend, its never left to brew so long that it becomes bitter, its sweetened with conversation, its enjoyed whether black or white, and it warms your soul.

  • 192. Jenny | August 27th, 2012 at 6:17 pm | #

Rooibos, rose buds, rose hips, hibiscus and just a touch, not too much, lavender blossoms. My partner thinks I drink potpourri, but late at night, when I’m feeling cold and just need to warm up and then go to sleep, this is relaxing, soothing and good for me.
Sydney would be LOVERLY, thanks Lorraine!!

  • 193. Jane Hadley | August 27th, 2012 at 6:32 pm | #

I also love Russian Caravan; again, white, no sugar. Love it in the afternoon…perfect with the Sydney High Tea : )

  • 194. Sandy | August 27th, 2012 at 7:11 pm | #

Rooibos – the south african caffeine free tea, as hot as I can get it, with just a splash of milk. Preferably drunk in a peaceful setting, however I’ll settle for children not actively brawling while I sip.

  • 195. Sandy | August 27th, 2012 at 7:12 pm | #

    Oops I forgot… Melbourne please!

  • 196. Susan Dunn | August 27th, 2012 at 7:55 pm | #

Peppermint tea is great! Melbourne is my destination!

  • 197. LE | August 27th, 2012 at 7:56 pm | #

Have said it before, tea is about the experience – who you’re with, where, the reason for getting together – and when you don’t reconize the crockery heritage by sight, being able to turn it over to take a peak!
As usual, Lorraine, love the images as well as plated tasty morsels.
    Hopeful about Sydney.

  • 210. Dirtgirl | August 28th, 2012 at 12:22 pm | #

Berry Sensation is my favorite flavour, because not only can it be drunk hot, but also cold with mineral water or lemonade added. I also use it to soak the mixed fruit/berries in, for my Berry Fruit Tea Cake. There’s nothing like a multi purpose tea.
Would love to attend Sydney High Tea.

  • 215. Rini | August 28th, 2012 at 8:04 pm | #

I love love love a cup of chai. It’s just very exotic: the smell and the spice. mmm.. How I have it? I usually have it with my boyfriend. hehe.. Believe it or not it’s our ‘couple drink’. When we were just friends, we tried as many chai tea as Sydneys cafe can offer. It was the cup of chai that brought us closer together.
    Sydney High Tea, please..

    Lotsa thanks!

  • 217. Helena Leung | August 28th, 2012 at 10:55 pm | #

My favourite tea is Dragon Well tea, which comes from delicately hand picked tea leaf tips in Hang Zhou, China. This green tea has a sweet, subtle flavour and the best bit is that you can actually eat the tea leaves after they have been infused! (Sydney please :)

  • 218. Marilyn | August 28th, 2012 at 11:13 pm | #

An afternoon treat for me is English Toffee with Peppermint tea, in a lovely cup with a good quality peanut brittle. Absolutely decadent !!!

  • 219. Jaqi | August 28th, 2012 at 11:32 pm | #

Dear Lorraine – what a divine competition! I LOVE drinking tea…especially in the afternoon with my lovely friend Rhonda. We have a little weekly ritual, and bring out the special
fine bone china tea-cups. We love Moroccan Mint…it transports us to faraway exotic places…. (but for now we live in Sydney ;-) xx

  • 225. WendyA | August 29th, 2012 at 11:48 am | #

Lorraine, I am a tea drinker from way back and I cannot start the day without my morning cuppa. Traditionally I drink an English or Irish Breakfast tea with milk, but lately I have realised I am lactose intolerant and have found that I enjoy my tea black with a teaspoon of agave. Surprisingly most enjoyable.
I would love to attend the Sydney event thank you.

  • 226. Gail | August 29th, 2012 at 3:42 pm | #

While the origins of most variety names mentioned are obvious enough, just love the mystery and romance of Russian Caravan – as well as the taste and the commentary when it’s been favourited in this competition posts.
    Still hopeful about Sydney.

  • 229. Praditya | August 30th, 2012 at 12:31 am | #

First of all, I’m a guy (probably the only guy who enters this competition). I love earl grey the most. Its best to have it hot in the morning with 2 1/2 tbs of milk and 2tsp sugar (yes, engineer job made me a very precise guy).

    And, Sydney please. Thank you!

  • 230. Tara | August 30th, 2012 at 11:04 am | #

I can’t go past English Breakfast. It’s my ultimate comfort. Just the smell of a good brew puts me at ease. But no bags please. Only leaves will do. I’d love to be lucky enough to win tickets to the Sydney event. Thanks.

Would love to attend the Sydney event please. Thanks!

  • 237. Elisabeth Crowe | August 31st, 2012 at 12:22 am | #

I love tea! Tea for two? Tea for one? Tea for me!! My favourite is English Breakfast, but the list could just go on and on!! I drink tea all day long! When I’ve done a hard day landscaping, and have showered and put on the PJs, THAT is my time for bedsocks and tea! Wonderful! Dilmah is my favourite brand – and not just because of the flavour, but also because of the ethics of the company. Thank you Mr Dilmah! (Oh, if I were to win…Sydney please? Thank you!).

  • 238. gordavi | August 31st, 2012 at 11:11 am | #

Darjeeling tea is my favourite. I add a bit of cardamom to it and milk. Not only does it roll beautifully off the rogue when you pronounce its name, but it leaves a beautiful aroma in your mouth when you drink it. (Melbourne please)

  • 239. Naz | August 31st, 2012 at 11:36 am | #

I make a very tasty Chai tea with added tumeric (Yellow tea to my kids).
For this tea I feel like lactose free milk works best.(even though I am not intolerant to milk). Its not heavy on the stomach and has a slightly sweeter taste to ordinary milk. I personally don’t like sweet tea so I add a little manuka for medicinal purposes.
My kids love this and ask for it when they aren’t feeling so well. My husband also has this when he is feeling under the weather but insists on adding a shot of scotch to it (an old Italian friend recommended this to him).

I would like to go to the Sydney event if I win. Cheers :)

  • 240. Sarine | August 31st, 2012 at 11:53 am | #

English Breakfast tea – semi-strong with a dash of milk. Brewing technique is important, I like to brew the leaves in a teapot for ~ 3 minutes, rotating the teapot ~ once every minute, alternating between clockwise and anti-clockwise turns. Sydney event please. Monique :)

How did I not see this competition?? :) I am coincidentally in Sydney on the 12th of September, so that would be absolutely perfect!! (And it’s my birthday 16 days afterwards… does that work in my favour? ;) )

I have so many favourite teas, and I tend to go through phases. At the moment, I’m drinking Irish Breakfast during the day – it has a lovely aroma and flavour that works perfectly for me. After dinner, I either have Rose and Vanilla tea by Dilmah (so beautiful and delicious!!) or Chai with Vanilla. However, nothing nothing NOTHING will ever beat a well-brewed pot of Earl Grey tea with milk. :)

  • 248. snw | August 31st, 2012 at 11:58 am | #

  • 250. Terry Bloom | August 31st, 2012 at 12:09 pm | #

My favorite tea is a flat white coffee! But I am sure that a High Tea in Melbourne would change that….

  • 251. Emma-Kate | August 31st, 2012 at 12:37 pm | #

I have a tea obsession and held my first mini high tea for my Grandmother and Mum for Mother’s day this year- it worked out so well and I was very proud of myself but I have never attended a real high tea before and would love to more than anything.

My friend Ali won the high tea challenge (I teach her little girl dancing) and I followed her journey, it was truely beautiful and I am very proud of her.
My favourite tea is Earl Grey and my favourite way to have tea is in a tea pot (from my growing collection) very strong with a dash of milk and one sugar.
If I was fortunate enough to be chosen I would be grateful for either Sydney or Melbourne.

    Thank you for the opportunity

  • 252. Louise B | August 31st, 2012 at 12:39 pm | #

  • 253. lilia97 | August 31st, 2012 at 12:52 pm | #

I was born in Java Island where plenty of black tea around. The Javanese people love their tea black and sweet with no milk. We called it thick sweet black tea (thick for its full of flavour of black tea leaves). I enjoyed it most when sitting inside my home while raining with that black sweet tea and accompanied with some deep fried snacks or traditional snack with coconut milk choices such as deep fried cassava or deep fried sweet white potato, deep fried banana fritter or with black glutinous rice with coconut milk on top or something like this.
After all, when it is raining, shouldn’t you stop working and enjoying the tea whilst listening to rain and watching rain go by before starting to work again? Not sure why but it give me lots of energy afterward and the rain also give a great smell, smell of wet earth or tropical rainforest.

  • 260. Louise Chow | August 31st, 2012 at 1:18 pm | #

My favorite tea is Lady grey tea. When I’m studying, and going through 6 cups a day, I have it just with milk but on other days I love it with this amazingly floral, organic honey and milk. I always think about that Nigella Lawson ad for lady grey tea, it makes me feel just a little fancy ;) I would love to go to the Sydney event!!

The most beautiful, heart warming cup of tea I’ve ever had was handed to me by a gorgeous young boy living in an orphanage in Dhulikhel, Nepal just a few months ago.The tea was made with rosemary from their herb garden. The rosemary leaves are boiled with the water and some honey and bucketloads of love.It is absolutely delicious and very refreshing. Each year our team of volunteer doctors and nurses travel to Nepal to operate on burn victims suffering dreadful contractures and we also have the great priviledge of visiting the children at this orphanage. I would love to take one of my dedicated team members with me to the Sydney event. Thanks Lorraine.

Yay, double the chance to win :-)
Lately, Chai has come into vogue and has become quite trendy to order but nothing can beat my first ever taste of Chai in a little throw-away pottery cup. It was my first time in India and I was travelling with my Greek friend Elva ( who had never travelled before and was thrown in the deep-end as far as culture shock goes). 5am standing on a platform at Delhi train station in February and it was freezing cold! Wearing light clothing and sandals didn’t help but we were in India , right, how very naive of us! Then the Chai Wallah shouted “Chai, Chai” above the din and I bought us two cups , it was the very best cup of Chai that I have ever tasted. :-)

  • 276. Lily Wong | August 31st, 2012 at 6:07 pm | #

Hi Lorraine. My favourite tea is ginger, and sometimes green. I like to have them both straight. Have never been to an event like this and would love to go to the sydney one.

Competition posts are full of cherished memories of where and with whom we’ve drunk tea we favored.
With Fathers’ Day nearly upon us, I’m thinking about how, decades ago, my Dad introduced our kids to ordinary Bushells tea, delivered, suitably cooled down, on a tea spoon. Sharing and caring.
Still hopeful about Sydney with the increase in passes available!

A delicious warm cup of red rose for me, the floral essences swim in a milky pool of tea.
Add a blob or two of honey,
It will make you feel quite funny,
As melt in your mouth as can be.

    (Sydney please <3)

    Sydney please!

I love chai. I love it with soy milk for that extra smoothness and a touch of honey.

    Melbourne.

Chai is my favourite. I always ask cafes if its loose leaves or powdered, the latter will be too sweet.

It has to be well steeped in hot milk, i like it spicy. Hard to find a cafe that makes it well.

On the theme of early experiences with tea drinking, remembering back to my favorite Snow White play tea set where the milk jug and sugar bowl with at least two of her dwarf friends pictures featured strongly.
If the competition’s still open, remain hopeful about The Langham in Sydney.
