Win a Smartbox Experiences Voucher!

I’m a good present buyer – under normal circumstances that is. I love buying presents for people and I get as much joy from giving gifts as receiving them. But there are some people that are almost impossible to buy for. My friend Gina for instance. She is allergic to fragrances and perfumes which pretty much knocks out a whole Christmas gift category. So much so that I just ask her to give me a list of a few things that she likes and I’ll pick one of them.

When I was presented with the idea of the Smartbox Voucher boxes I immediately thought of her. Rather than a gift certificate, this is a slightly different concept and one that will solve most of your gift giving dilemmas. There are 7 different ranges to choose from: Temptations for Two, Table for Two, Unique Escapes, Wine Getaways, Adventure, Extreme and Serenity. Each has between 50 and 100 things to choose from and they’re split between NSW and Victorian locations.

Table for Two

Each box has a certificate inside as well as a comprehensive colour catalogue of all the offers so the lucky recipient can choose any of them. So instead of giving a department store gift voucher that is only valid in the store itself, you choose a theme that they may like be it Wine Getaways, Adventure or Temptations for Two and they can choose which particular establishment takes their fancy. Each box is priced differently from the Temptations for Two at $69.95, to the Adventure for $99.95 to the Extreme for $349.95.

Thanks to the lovely people at Smartbox, I’m giving away two of these Smartbox voucher boxes! And the two kinds I have today are food related of course:

Temptations for Two

Temptations for two ($69.95) which has 60 tasting temptations for two people across New South Wales and Victoria! These include cupcake experiences at Sparkle Cupcakery,  dinner with wine at Baroque Bistro, Fondue and Martinis at the Victoria Room, cheese tastings, beer tastings and well, the list goes on!

Table for Two ($129.95) which has 50 tasting temptations for two people across New South Wales and Victoria! These include dinner for two at Jonah’s Whale Beach, Restaurant Atelier, Perama or La Brasserie among others.

To win one of these Smartboxes, all you have to do is the following. Remember the seven ranges that they currently have: Temptations for Two, Table for Two, Unique Escapes, Wine Getaways, Adventure, Extreme and Serenity? All you have to do is think of a new range! For example I suggested an “Urban Princess” range which would be full of pampering, afternoon teas and chocolate tastings.

Add your entry via a comment to this story. You can enter once daily as long as your answer is different. This competition is open to Australian residents only.

***The Lucky Winners of the Smartbox Experiences Vouchers are:

Vicki B. of Sydney

George C. of ACT***

This competition finishes midnight AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on the 25th of January, 2010.

Best of luck!

Love,

Lorraine

what a great idea!!! definitely something to consider for the person who has everything! my suggestion for a new box would be (having noticed that the current ones are very couples or singles oriented) would be a ‘Family Fun’ box. In there there should be a range to family oriented activities and attractions like oceanworld, koala parks, the theme parks in the gold coast, family family restaurants, movie theatres experiences, family cooking classes (where adults and kids learn to cook together)…

How about yummy mummy- a lovely facial and massage, and hair wash and blowdry while someone babysits and someone else cleans the house; plus a consultation with a stylist to help pull together some new looks. Sounds like bliss for most mums!!!

My suggestion is a package for the artistic types – vouchers that could be used to buy tickets for exhibitions in art galleries, used to enrol in lessons in digital photography, time in a darkroom, life drawing, or even for buying things in art supple shops like Modern Times in Newtown or photography shops like Ted’s in the city.

I’d call it “Full of Light” or something to that effect, since art and photography would be very difficult (if not impossible) without light.

“Bookworms” – where you visit a wide range of bookshops, spending your voucher (if you love books you’ll be in heaven!)

  • 7. Melle | December 19, 2009 at 9:08 am | #

They look great – my Mum is really hard to buy for so maybe I’ll give one of those a go!
My entry is: ‘Skyline’ all things that show off how gorgeous Sydney can be from above or high up, such as the centerpoint tower revolving restaurant, the harbour bridge climb, maybe a helicopter ride over the city, etc

  • 8. Alison Sainsbury | December 19, 2009 at 9:08 am | #

Hmmm. How about a Mother & Daughter category, where you and your teenage daughter have a chauffeur-driven city shopping trip (with shopping thrown in of course), delish lunch at Plan B, followed by a relaxing massage, night in a nice hotel with a show and some dinner, followed by choccies at Lindt? Expensive I know but such fun.

My suggestion is ‘Night on the Town’ which could include Cinema and/or dinner and/or hotel and/or cocktails and/or theatre
I would love to receive this package as a gift

What about “Family Fun”? I like the idea of being able to give a gift like this to a family so they can “choose their own adventure”. What a neat idea this whole thing is- a way to give the gift of special memories to someone!

Growers visits…I always try to find a visitable farm when I travel to see how it happens and sample the produce (e.g. wasabi farm in Christchurch, coffee farm on Norfolk Island, cheese producer in Tassie). Always super-interesting and yummy!!

  • 13. Sarah | December 19, 2009 at 9:36 am | #

Hmm, tricky. The obvious ones seem to be taken. How about a “Tree Hugger” themed one, including locally sourced organic fruit/vegetable boxes, specialty goods like local honey, chocoloate or wine, a dinner/stay on an organic farm/vineyard, maybe a choice of a few books or magazines on seasonal and local produce.

  • 14. Vanessa Firth | December 19, 2009 at 9:37 am | #

I would like to see a “Child Within” box set – it would have things like ice cream tastings, tickets to luna park, a trip to the zoo, or maybe even circus school – all for the grown ups who like to escape from being a grown up every now and then!!!

  • 15. Julia | December 19, 2009 at 9:44 am | #

I reckon a ‘Gothic’ range… with ghost tours in the rocks or historic cemetery tour, coupled with dinner at a restaurantat the Beach House at Nielsen Park, overlooked by Greycliff House, one of the few examples of neo -gothic styled architecture in Sydney.

How about “GAY ABANDON” for those of us so inclined (myself included.) I feel the pressing need to be relaxed, pampered, food and drink spread before me and my man. Especially at this time of year when so many gays and lesbians have a hard time; when just about everything is targetted at families and we might feel a little outside of all that.

“Y-Gen” or “Z-Gen” boxes – just how hard is it to buy for 16-18 year olds? So this package provides the choice of: cafes, yuppy restaurants, entertainment venues, technology and hifi shops, magazine subscriptions. Ooooh nice!

I’d call mine “A Day in the Life” and it would be a culture-themed package; Guided market shop with ingredient explanation, maybe an afternoon cooking class including lunch, then perhaps some cultural museums and then dinner at an awesome restaurant of that culture :)

Other things that come to mind that could be included are dressing up (in a Japanese kimono or Indian sari perhaps?)and dance instruction (who hasn’t wanted to try bellydancing or learn some Bollywood moves?)

  • 32. Erin | December 19, 2009 at 1:17 pm | #

I think “The First Date” something that involves a romantic outing say dinner and a movie… or a picnic hamper… I don’t think that it would have to be used as a first date but something that couples could use to shake things up a little!

Well so many good ones are taken – so many imaginative minds out there. My suggestion will show my American roots – but I can live with that. How about something for those individuals who like to treat their dog. It can be vouchers for cafes that are dog friendly, vouchers for dog treats and toys and finally perhaps for something to do with training – like a Cesar Millan show?
I just realized how geeky I am!

How about the “No Pressure” range – for a girl or guy who’s interested in someone, but is too shy to ask them out on a ‘date’…so, they could ask them to go with them on one of these experiences. Something that doesn’t make you think of ‘first date’ – maybe a bridge climb, or cooking class or something that wouldn’t make the other person super suspicious about it being a ‘date’, but rather a day out with a friend – no pressure to date at all! :)

  • 38. Samantha | December 19, 2009 at 4:41 pm | #

“Epicurean Odyssey” – tickets for personalised food + drink tours that range from more cultural experiences such as a cabramatta food tour, to say a sweet tour of each city’s best spots for cakes and sweet things. I don’t about Melbourne, but Sydney’s basic one (in the CBD) could include visits to Lindt, Max Brenner, Guylian and La Renaissance, and you get to sample treats at each. The walking in between should burn off some calories!

  • 42. matilda | December 19, 2009 at 6:41 pm | #

What a super idea, especially for husbands like mine that are too busy or never have any idea what to buy, it’s all too hard for them poor dears,LOl. I like your ‘Urban Princess’ box and would have probably suggested something similar. So, without getting too carried away or the prices would become too high, I would suggest a ‘Housework-Free day for Mum’,as we mums work hard all year round and it would be nice to get up to a lovely breakfast, shower, dress and leave for a delicious lunch , knowing that all will be done when we return. A little like the fairytales where little elves or other impish creatures busy themselves through the night and complete all the chores. Bliss :-)

  • 43. Linda | December 19, 2009 at 7:29 pm | #

I immediately thought ‘family fun’ then saw it was the first comment post on the list. I guess another idea could be online shopping spree which could be a variety of items. Including online specialty food and kitchen stores, fruit delivery, cupcakes etc. Yum now I want one.

Wow there are so many fantastic suggestions – I feel sorry for you having to pick!

Um, I’d go for Cinema Buff package – you’d have a tour to see where famous movies/tv series have been shot in Sydney/Melbourne, for example cruise round the harbour like they do in Mission Impossible, or hang out at the Carlton Football club Underbelly style, then have food at a restaurant featured in a movie, like the Italian places in Looking for Alibrandi etc, and finish the day off going to a gold class movie showing.

‘The Weekender Pack’ which could have anything from romantic B&B getaways, wine tours, fishing tours (for the outdoorsy types), massage/day spas (for the indoorsy types), sightseeing things to do in cities, museums as well as including family stuff like the zoo, cinemas, theme parks etc. Could even include hire cars and travel company vouchers.

Ooh, I have another idea – a box for music fans, so there’d be vouchers for concerts or operas or music lessons, or to be used in music shops (the ones selling musical instruments) o CD shops. I was going to call this one Tone Deaf, but that doesn’t seem right…

  • 55. Melle | December 20, 2009 at 1:04 pm | #

My second thought – Indie Adventures that would include vouchers for independent clothes and jewellery as well as maybe independent fine foods and chocolate businesses.

  • 56. Julie | December 20, 2009 at 2:03 pm | #

I would suggest a Charity Champion box that could contain information on where all the great charity op shops and gift shops were with the experiences being directly related to a charity, eg. helping out at a food van, visiting sick children in hospital, planting trees – whatever cause took the heart of the recipient and a charity that was willing to be profiled in the box and participate. The gift voucher aspect would of course be a donation to the charity! The perfect gift for someone who has everything.

  • 57. KC~ | December 20, 2009 at 3:50 pm | #

I would love a “Day in the life of” experience.

Opportunities would include spending a day with someone who does for a living something that you would like to have a go at. Kind of like work experience opportunities but for grownups who would like to spend a day in someone elses shoes. Of course you could throw in other things to make sure its a fun day

    For instance:

    Day in the life of:
    - a food blogger!
    - a carpenter
    - a professional chef
    - a market gardner
    - a brewer
    - a vitner
    - a photographer
    - a wedding planner
    - a cake designer
    - an organic farmer

Father & Son – things the boys can do together
Mother & Me – Something for Mum and daughter (or Son)
Mum to Be – pampering for the Mum to be
Bride to Be – pampering for the future bride
Makeover Magic – a make up/clothes styling experience
Diva for a Day – you get the idea

Thought of something not suitable for everyone, but maybe some will like it. “The Scary Stuff” – ghost tour, night at haunted house, horror movie marathon, etc. Definitely not something for me, but I know of people who just love the thrill :p

    Mystery for all-

  • 64. Liv | December 20, 2009 at 11:05 pm | #

How about “No Longer Lonesome”…where recently divorced ladies (or men – I’d be thinking separate packs for men & women) can pick something to make them feel good about themselves and meet & have a fun day with other ladies (or men) who have recently gone through similar experiences. Things like high tea, shopping tour, and glamour photography for women, and bridge climbs, Harley rides & hot laps in a V8 car for the men.

Renew Us box – a special box created to rewnew “tired worn-out” marriages, so maybe it would have a ceremony for the couple, included could be commitment cards, the couple would have to decide what their relationship needed and commit to making time for each other etc.

  • 71. mikey | December 21, 2009 at 8:25 am | #

How about “TOOTH-FAIRY DELIGHT” giving a range of sweet treats, like ben&jerrys, sparkle, zumbos,Chocolateria and (a cheeky twist) a dentist’s checkup!
Now the former suggestions I’d really be in to. I’m not sure about the final one though!!!

  • 72. Shanks | December 21, 2009 at 8:42 am | #

What a “Smartbox” idea!! My entry would be “Food-Crawl” similar to a pub crawl but with food, where you can experience canapes/light meals from a list of fine restaurants.

  • 73. katrina | December 21, 2009 at 10:10 am | #

    Scents & Centsability

Vouchers for perfume shops, florists and nurserys. Wether it be for scented candles, cut flowers or vegetable seedlings every one would be happy with this smartbox.

  • 74. Suzanne | December 21, 2009 at 10:14 am | #

I love the idea of experience vouchers! My suggestion is “Behind the Scenes” – a tour of a top restaurant kitchen, followed by a delicious tasting menu. It could also be extended to tours of museums, gardens, etc. I’m always fascinated by what happens in the Staff Only areas :-)

  • 75. karina wong | December 21, 2009 at 11:03 am | #

How about a culture crawl – a bit of art such as drawing or painting followed by an all you can eat High tea in the afternoon (has to be good value, so the more food the better – asians would like this)

  • 76. Jennifer | December 21, 2009 at 11:17 am | #

Ho about a charity box? at this time of year most of us are so hell bent on consumerism and what we can get, why dont we give back?

the box could contain a donation to a selection of charities that you can choose from_ such as oxfam gifts or St Judes school in Tanzania( run by a nice Aussie lady) and a afternoon volunteering at a homeless shelter/soup kitchen/old folks home/migrant centre etc etc..

  • 77. Phuoc | December 21, 2009 at 1:28 pm | #

    What a fantastic idea!
My suggestion would be “Bake your cake and eat it too”.. Ideally for the baking enthusiast where they will be able to learn how to bake cakes, pastries etc from top patisserie eg Adriano Zumbo, La Renaissance Patisserie, Bourke Street Bakery etc

  • 78. Wei | December 21, 2009 at 3:16 pm | #

“Experience life without technology”- the idea is to have 1 day of experience without any technology; by remote island, by deep forest, by high up in the mountain or by deep in cave. It should be interesting experience/experiment!

  • 79. Audrey | December 21, 2009 at 3:34 pm | #

What about one that gives you a sense of the dominant cuisine per suburb?

  • 80. Sarah | December 22, 2009 at 3:21 pm | #

What about “The Boy Box”? I struggle to buy for boys the most as guys tend to have everything they need and dont “want” things like us girls do! It could be a tour of a brewery, followed by a pot and parma at a great pub.

  • 81. Wei | December 23, 2009 at 9:55 am | #

Experience the multiculturism of Australia. A box on all things (food, performance, clothes, transport etc) from China, Germany, India, Japan, US etc will be fun.

The Teach-Me box. Allowing (or pushing) the recipient to learn something they have always wanted to learn – cooking, another language or any other hobby really.

I love picnics, so what about…

Like several other people my initial thought was for a “Family Fun” theme but as this was taken I thought what about an “Overseas Odessey” theme with various overseas destinations to choose from eg China, Vietnam, Japan, India, Italy, etc. These packages could be tailored to be family or even school excursion friendly to suit children who’ve learnt about different countries at school. An information leaflet/booklet could be included with special highlights/facts about the country chosen.

China could include a visit to the Chinese Gardens in Darling Harbour, a visit to China Town, dragon boat racing and Yum Cha.

Vietnam could include a visit to the Vietnamese foodie shops/markets in Cabramatta, Vietnamese cooking classes and a Vietnamese banquet.

Japan could include origami and calligraphy lessons, sushi making lessons and a Teppanyaki banquet. Kids won’t believe they will have food thrown at them to catch!

India could include a Bollywood film, an Indian banquet and belly dancing lessons.

Italy has already been comprehensively covered by Natalie in Post 90.

Special packages could be put together to coincide with annual national festivals such as Chinese New Year, ThanksGiving and, for the adults, Oktoberfest.

So many great ideas, here’s my second one. “Nanny in a Box” for the stressed-out parents who need time out from their kids. haha A special nanny for the day picked from a reputable baby-sitting service, would allow young and not-so-young couples to have a quality day/night out.

ooh – I’m coming late to this but this is a cool concept!

How about Signature City which have options that ‘define’ experiences that make up that city or area?

I see from their website that they have lots of different locations so it would be great to give this to friends visiting interstate or travelling to another area.

We have friends that just moved interstate and I would love to give them a taste of their city to kickstart their new life!

    Blokes Night Out.

Throw in beers, footy, billiards, pub food and snackies (blokes sometimes have simple tastes!). It doesn’t sound as interesting or “tempting” as the girls version BUT if you can get your dad, brother, hubby and/or boyfriend to go out and have fun, it will at least give you an excuse to indulge in some Girls Night In (with mum of course!)

  • 124. YM | January 25, 2010 at 7:54 am | #
