Win 1 of 5 Avatar 3D Double Passes at IMAX, Darling Harbour

avatar poster

We all know Christmas time is time to spend with the family and loved ones but let’s be honest, after a few days of eating food and family squabbles, the urge to retreat to the movies is a strong one. Today we have a giveaway for 5 double passes to see Avatar, the new Animated Science Fiction film from Titanic director James Cameron. It stars Australian Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sigourney Weaver and the 3D experience just opened concurrently across the world. I love 3D films and have fond memories of lining up at the Pizza Hut to collect my 3D cardboard glasses. My how times have changed (and for the better really).

As for the little details, well of course it’s at the IMAX Sydney Darling Harbour and you need to book in advance as sessions sell out. Each pass is worth $54 and tickets are valid until April 2010!

All you have to do is tell me what your favourite Science Fiction film is and why! Add your entry via a comment to this story. You can enter once daily as long as your answer is different. This competition is open to Australian residents only.

The winners are:

1. Lang L.
2. Billy W.
3. Jenny L.
4. Candice B.
5. Wan H.
Congratulations and enjoy Avatar! :)

This competition finishes midnight AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on the 23rd of January, 2010.

Good Luck to everyone!

Love,

Lorraine

I saw this movie and it was fantastic. My fave sci fi movie would have to be the aliens series of films. So scary but really exciting at the same time.

Favourite Sci Fi film…. would have to be star wars. Though after seeing Avatar, that may change!!

Science Fiction is not my thing, and I saw Avatar last week, but the one science fiction film that did have an impact on me was the original Star Wars (yes I was old enough to go & see it at the time). I’d never seen anything so ground breaking before & probably haven’t since.

    HI NQN
My favourite SF film is probably Silent Running. A story of a Noah’s Ark type ship with the last plants in the Universe sent off to repopulate. Then it gets creepy as the crew members conflict. At least they could eat salad out in space after they make up!

  • 7. jackie segal | January 3, 2010 at 9:49 am | #

The Time Machine, because we like the way they ate the humans au natural without any accompaniments!!!

No Science fiction film could surpass
STar Trek epic – displaying class
    Ignites in fire; enemies flee
Most brilliant movie; favourite for me

Would love to win this for my son as it was booked out when we went to try and see it.

LOGAN`S RUN 1976. A film way ahead of its time! With its Unique concept of terminating Life at Thirty, may just happen in the Future?

The new star trek was awesome :)

My fave science fiction film has got to be Back To The Future! Michael J Fox and the Doc are totally awesome in that movie.

ooh what a fantastic prize! My favourite sci fi film is definitely WALL-E. To be honest I’m much more of a book geek than a sci fi one, so star wars etc don’t really grab me, but this movie was so cute, had a fantastic message, appealed to all ages (i saw it with a ten year old and an eighty year old who loved it equally) and I would reccommend it to any and everyone.

  • 13. Simon Food Favourite | January 3, 2010 at 11:03 am | #

The Matrix, because sometimes I think it’s actually so true and Keanu was awesome when he stopped the bullets and gotta love Monica Bellucci as Persephone :-)

Does Charlie and the chocolate factory count as science fiction? If not, then Howard the Duck, cause I like cheesy movies!

Children of Men, because of it’s fantastic acting, makes you think that one never know…it could perhaps happen to us…

    E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.

My first movie watching experience as a kid in the 80s. E.T. opened my eyes to a world so distant yet so fascinating and fun. It made me want to travel to space to look for E.T. when the movie credits rolled. All I could think of as a little kid is how fun life could be to ride my bike to space, away from mum and dad who were constantly bickering with one another and on the verge of divorce. I came from a broken home but this film gave hope and comfort to an innocent mind like mine, away from the cruel realities of life.

    SPLINTER
A low budget, dark, gorey and truly creepy movie. A perfect blend of horror and scifi that leaves you wanting more

I don’t qualify for the giveaway because I live in California. Still, had to reveal my fave sci-fi movie. Would you believe when the first “Star Wars” film came out that I saw it 13 times in the theater? Ahh, to be young and have that much time on my hands again. LOL. My brothers and I could recite most of the lines from the movie. How crazy is that!

  • 19. Faith | January 3, 2010 at 12:28 pm | #

Fabulous giveaway, Lorraine! This looks like a good movie (but I have to admit, they’ve got some creepy eyes, lol!).

  • 20. rozwar | January 3, 2010 at 12:31 pm | #

My favourite is Back to the Future.
    Why?
No funny characters with pointy ears.
No silly spaceships (unless you cound a flying Delorion).
And a lovely happy story that gives you the warm and fuzzies!

  • 21. Hannah | January 3, 2010 at 12:58 pm | #

Serenity, definitely! I loved the show Firefly, so having a movie come out after it was so unceremoniously cancelled was great :)

My best sci-fi movie would have to be Aliens. This was the only sci-fi movie that was genuinely frightening and their aliens are the most bad-ass of all movie aliens. It caused many nightmares about ‘face-huggers’ and ‘chest-poppers’ back in the day LOL.

  • 25. KC~ | January 3, 2010 at 1:46 pm | #

I’m not a great fan of sci fi myself, but its my partners favourite genre so I get to see a lot of it!

The one film that stands out for me isn’t due to the plot or anything other than the one musical scene – The Diva Dance – from Fifth Element. The composition and singing of this is FANTASTIC. Also worth checking out the young lass on U-tube who sings it – probably even better than in the movie, as some of the range is beyond the abilities of even professional singers!

  • 26. Rachel | January 3, 2010 at 1:58 pm | #

Ghostbusters and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. He’s just so happy looking.

Aliens would have to be my fav Sci Fi film, not only because it was also directed by James Cameron but it was also one of the most memorable action/horror pulse pounders ever! I loved Sigourney Weaver’s performance in it as the perfect heroin and overall the movie was full of suspense and impact. Hopefully Avatar will surpass my expectations too and I can’t wait to see it on the uber big screen @ IMAX!!!

Metropolis because it was the first sci-fi film, and you can see influences from everything from C-3PO, Queen’s ‘Radio Gaga’ video, to Beyonce’s ‘Sweet Dream’ video, but mainly because I asked my partner to go to it on our first official date.

  • 33. Donna | January 3, 2010 at 4:59 pm | #

My fav sci-fi movie would be Avatar. (possibly, one of the best movies id watched in the past yrs) I regret not seeing it in 3D so if i won, it would be great as im planning to watch it again :)
i dont want to spoil the movie, but its seriously worth watching cause its so different to any other movies out there. absolutely amazing.

  • 34. Carina | January 3, 2010 at 6:06 pm | #

I grew up with the Alien quadrology – another great piece by Sigourney Weaver. It’s always been on my list for producing one of the creepy moments everyone will know – the scary hand attack depicting that egg laying thing.

  • 35. David | January 3, 2010 at 6:12 pm | #

My favorite sci-fi movie is Bladerunner because the androids are almost humans. I loved the depiction of the multileveled city as well. Ridley Scott rocks!

  • 36. Lucy | January 3, 2010 at 6:35 pm | #

My favourite sci fi movie is Bladerunner even though I had to study it all through High School and then at uni which took the joy out of it, watching it again recently I saw how great it was an how it influenced so many other sci fi movies which came after it.

  • 37. Erin Coyne | January 3, 2010 at 6:36 pm | #

Gattaca – Awesome twists and turns, plus Ethan Hawke & Jude Law to drool over…sci-fi-riffic!

  • 38. Maree | January 3, 2010 at 7:24 pm | #

    Hi NQN!

So many to choose from but will put forth as a favourite’Blade Runner’. A lot of sci-fi movies (as much as I do enjoy them) are a reinterpretation of contemporary concerns, but this movie truely depicted something that for me was futuristic. The questioning of morality and ambiguity of humanism was deeply affective. Even though it was made over twenty years ago, it is a movie that still resonates to this day.

  • 39. betty | January 3, 2010 at 7:26 pm | #

have you seen/read the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy??

its my fav sci-fi movie because – its not the sci fi u think of (star wars etc)

its got a scene where the humans turn into knitted toys (so cutE!)

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/striatic/17054570/

and also the part where they had a toaster knife – a knife that cuts of toast and also toasts it at the same time (but i always thought hm you’d have to slice atleast two pieces otherwise u get one cold side and one hot side

  • 40. matilda | January 3, 2010 at 7:54 pm | #

How coincidental, we had a family bbq today and everyone was talking about the film Avatar, seems like I’m the only member who hasn’t seen it. I made sure they didn’t reveal too much as I’ve been wanting to see it.
Don’t know if a TV series counts but I used to love watching Dr.Who on the ABC, I think it introduced everyone to all things sci-fi. If you look at the series now you’d probably laugh but back then they were exceptionally entertaining.

  • 41. Angela | January 3, 2010 at 8:43 pm | #

I’m going to see this (in 3D) tomorrow! Can I enter this on behalf of my sister?! I LOVE The Fifth Element, I could watch it over and over again! There’s absolutely nothing negative I could say about it, if you haven’t seen it go out and rent it! xxx

  • 42. Tania | January 3, 2010 at 9:17 pm | #

Well my all time best sci-fi movie was the original Terminator movie. We watched it with our teenages recently after many months of hyping the heck out if it, we explained how cutting edge it was for its time blah blah blah.

After many rolled eyes we agreed that they are really never as good as we remember them, we should have known considering the dust on the cover from the local video store.

  • 43. Candice | January 3, 2010 at 9:29 pm | #

Hi NQN, I saw Avatar recently and loved it, despite not normally being a fan of the sci-fi genre. I didn’t get to see it in 3D though which sucked. Anyway, I just wanted to say something a little off-topic…I nominated your blog in the Tenth Annual Weblog Awards: http://2010.bloggies.com/
Hope other NQN fans vote too; you deserve it!

Star Wars-and may the force be with you, always.

I am talkint the original trilogy though. Darth Vader is the ultimate bad guy in The Empire Strikes Back, although the only people he kills in the whole film are his own staff.

  • 46. Jenny | January 3, 2010 at 9:55 pm | #

AI (Artificial Intelligence) may not be everyone’s cup of sci-fi tea but to me, it is one destined to be a classic in 10 – 20 years time. It explodes in my mind long after I’ve cried my guts out. Every shot, every camera move, every frame, every sound, every piece of music is near perfect. It’s an underrated film that unravels its magic after each viewing. If you haven’t seen this film, I suggest you give it a try. Even if you don’t like it, I’m sure the relationship between the mother and her son/robot will move you to tears. A spectacular achievement by Kubrick and Spielberg!

  • 47. Moya | January 3, 2010 at 10:01 pm | #

I think Avatar has to be the film that makes 3D glasses worthwhile wearing. My favourite SF movie is Bladerunner but my favourite intelligent SF movie is the original Solaris by Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky NOT the lame George Clooney remake!

  • 48. lily | January 3, 2010 at 10:41 pm | #

My favourite sci fi movie is Gattica… i watched it a few years back, i thought it was incredibly but at the same time, some what realistic now. it’s funny, sad, with an ulterior motive. I love it.

  • 49. Lisa | January 3, 2010 at 10:41 pm | #

The Matrix – mind blowing concept, boundary pushing effects and some pretty fine casting (good balance of acting chops and eye-candy) and a brilliant soundtrack make this my number 1.

  • 50. Saucy Smith | January 3, 2010 at 11:09 pm | #

Thanks for the note,Lorraine. I think the name comes from the idea of closing your eyes and just savoring the flavor. It amazingly does taste like lasagna….Personally I think its because of the bechamel!!

Have a good one. Talk soon.

Lots of keen sci fi fans above. I have not yet seen Avatar but its top of my list. I’m an all time Trekie and Star Wars fan. Alien too.

    Cheers

Wow! Yes please :) So many good sci-fi flicks, loved Gattaca, but if I had to pick one I could watch over and over and over again? No contest: Star Wars ep IV: A New Hope. Good movie it is, win hope I will.

Favourite Sci Fi film of all time, have to be Alien.
It was the pinnicle of sci fi and really set the stage for sci fi movies after it. It’s a pretty amazing film for it’s time.
I haven’t seen avatar yet but seeing it at the IMAX would be THE experience.

  • 63. Vyvo | January 4, 2010 at 9:38 am | #

My favourite science fiction movie is the recent District 9. The use of no-name actors and the parallel they drew to the history of District 6 made it so real.

  • 64. Paul Klumpp | January 4, 2010 at 9:55 am | #

I think my favourite SciFi movie might be the original version of “The Day the Earth Stood Still” or maybe “Total Recall” with big Arnie which was pretty good too. Sci Fi is a difficult genre to get right but interestingly some of the elements of Sci Fi end up becoming reality in the future. Haven’t seen Avatar yet.

  • 65. Katrina Smit-Eadie | January 4, 2010 at 10:07 am | #

Who can go past Torchwood and the latest Doctor Who series ? A close 2nd has to be the latest Star Trek film, big, pointy ears are the bomb. Who would have thought sci fi was sexy, thanks to Johhn Barrowman, David Tenant and Zachary Quinto (swoon).

  • 66. Melanie | January 4, 2010 at 10:13 am | #

I love any old school sci fi but my favourite would have to be the original Village of the Damned. What’s more freakish than bright eyed blonde haired children who can read minds and control all the inhabitants of a quiet English village through their telekinetic powers. (I also love The Simpsons episode based on this film!)

  • 67. Forager | January 4, 2010 at 10:16 am | #

Ooh I love sci fi films! and my favourite would have to be the iconic Star Wars series. Probably The Empire Strikes Back. Although, The Matrix is a close second.

  • 73. MaryPoppinsinHeels | January 4, 2010 at 4:29 pm | #

I can’t be officially in this one but that hasn’t stopped me yet! ;)

My sweetie was an assistant director on Alien, so I’d have to say that one (though I think my favorite is really Earth Girls are Easy, just between us).

  • 74. C | January 4, 2010 at 5:01 pm | #

well. it is a scifi movie, but its an anime and i hope that is crossed out.

my favourite would be the Evangelion movies as it really questions the origin of life and such – which is what most scifi is about.

  • 75. Jessie | January 4, 2010 at 8:13 pm | #

My fave Sci-Fi film has to be E.T.! I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid, and it reminds me of my childhood. Also I love that it is an earlier generation sci-fi film, didn’t need all the modern flashy film technologies to make it a brilliant film. Film for the ages. :)

  • 76. Rachel | January 4, 2010 at 10:23 pm | #

For me it was “The Neverending Story” because it was magical, romantic, sad and happy simultaneously (and because it reminds me of my childhood when all my daydreams were as whimsical).

  • 77. Sweets at Vicky's | January 5, 2010 at 12:21 am | #

    Hi All,
Matrix… action, good moves & goood looks what more can I say.
O.K. Lord of the Rings… some breath taking good looks. Yum Orlando as “Legolas” with those striking blue eyes, long blond hair and such great moves. Whoops forgot to mention great special effects as well.
Haven’t seen Avatar yet, I am thinking if your going to see it, why not see it 3D so i am still hanging out.

  • 81. karina wong | January 5, 2010 at 10:55 pm | #

  • 82. Axeman | January 5, 2010 at 10:59 pm | #

I was seven when I first saw Star Wars. The characters, special effects and storyline all combined to make a huge impression on me. There are some really, really great Sci-Fi movies out there but Star Wars will always be my favourite.

DONNIE DARKO. You’ve got to love a movie that you can watch again and again and again and always find something you hadn’t seen before. Plus, you cant go past a man in a bunny suit telling you the world is going to end in a month! Now that’s going to get you thinking.I would love to see Avatar with my son. This would be an amazing surprise!!!It looks incredible.

    STAR TREK

A Gilligan’s island type story in the realms of outer space.
You can sing my comment to the tune of Gilligan’s Island theme song.

I LOVE the tale of the Enterprise
    and of her fearless crew
which started from the Academy to Gamma Hydra Two.
Along the way some Klingons came
    on board were Romulan spies
but thanks to the courage of Captain Kirk
    they saved the Enterprise.

    Along came Commodore Decker’s son
    with Ilia at his side
but Kirk came along to take control
    and command the Enterprise.
    Vjer tried to conquer all
    and learn about his birth
but thanks to the courage of the fearless crew
    they saved the planet Earth.

    Out of the Eugenics war
    aboard the Botany Bay
Khan came along to take control
but was prevented from his say.
    Project Genesis was born
    Khan wanted his revenge
McCoy missed his change to get away from it all
    and Genesis was Khan’s end.

    CHORUS: I love Spock,
    Captain Kirk
    Uhura and tribbles too
    and Bones McCoy
Chekhov and Scotty and Mr. Sulu.

The Return of the King, I know its not original to choose a blockbuster, but the story is unbeatable, and Peter Jackson did an amazing job putting Tolkien’s world onto the big screen

i wouldnt say favourite but one of the scifi movies that stick in my mind would be stephen kings ‘the Mist’. it wasnt particularly gory or anything, but quite psychotic as it really portrayed the minds and emotions people was experiencing – esp the ending made my entire group and me go ‘uuuggggghhh’ and cinched. lol

I’d like to add “Avatar” but so far I have to say its the star trek epics on the big screen!

  • 89. Scotia | January 6, 2010 at 1:34 pm | #

I was a latecomer to the whole Firefly craze, but Serenity, and the whole story about how the movie came about through its legions of fans, is just as great a story as the actual movie. Serenity is my best Sci-Fi movie.

“ET phone home”… ok I know I’m showing my age but who could fail but be won over by one of the cutest (and odd looking) aliens – ET!!!

  • 91. Jo F | January 7, 2010 at 11:02 am | #

Ok so I watched Back to the Future (the original and best one) again the other day & despite being over 20 years old it’s a classic; I was still on the edge of my seat to see if the Doc could re-connect the power supply before Marty reached 88mph & lightning struck!!!

    Aliens.

Because it’s an express elevator to hell, GOING DOWN.

  • 93. Phillip Cunningham | January 8, 2010 at 7:50 am | #

Silent Running as that film was a glimpse of a possible future, one that hopefully will not come to pass.

  • 94. Carol | January 8, 2010 at 10:20 am | #

The Fifth Element is my pick. Bruce Willis saving the world on a galatic level. Best scene is with the flying Chinese restuarant that comes straight to your window – wouldn’t that be sweet! And a cameo from Luke Perry – classic!

    Happy New Year!

My favorite sci-fi film is ‘Contact’. I have also read the book by Carl Sagan. Because the writer is a real astronomer who has true knowledge of possibilities of science, inter- connecting ideas of science, religion and sexism are dealt with credibility, yet with imagination.

  • 96. Phillip Cunningham | January 8, 2010 at 10:38 pm | #

Independence Day as it was a really good sci-fi movie that really did address the question of Are we alone in the universe? The answer in the film was NO.

The matrix – very complex, intense and delicious!

  • 98. Corey | January 9, 2010 at 7:04 pm | #

If there’s one movie to me
    In the Sci-Fi category
    That’d be essential to see
    It’s 2001: A Space Odyssey
    Move aside ET
    Close Encounters of Kind 3
    And the Aliens trilogy
    Because this movie by Stanley
Is what ultimately came to be
    The founding prodigy
    Of Sci-Fi history

My favourite Science Fiction film is Journey to the Center of the Earth because it had lots of sci-fi animals and plants in the middle of the earth!

The Lord of The Rings The Return of The King

Gandalf outshines superlative. A character lynchpin for the entire series.

I take every opportunity to emulate his steadfast, fervent loyal, friendship and devotion to a cause.

He is a wand’ring Istar, which in Middle-earth vernacular
Define him as a wizard, with a flair for speech oracular:
He’s Olorin and Mithrandir (the titles are euphonious)
    Though Hobbits call him Gandalf, which is plain but ain’t erroneous;
    He’s splendid in his whiskers, which he’s tended for millennia;
    His grey chapeau is conical, and sports a little zinnia;
He’s chummy with Iluvatar, but he’s no incongruity.
Yes I repeat all this at parties for a beer and a gratuity!

I love it, I love it, I love it a lot. I watch it and view it and review it a lot.

Terminator 2 for the laughs. Hasta la vista, baby.

Logan’s Run from 1976 (year of my birth) is my favourite Scifi flick, and has been on recently again on Foxtel. I watch it at least twice a year. I love it because I’d be dead now if it were true, it’s cheesy and dated and fantastically offensively sexist but that’s part of the fun. The story is based on a society where if you are 30 years old you get killed. There are special police that hunt the runners who try to avoid being killed after they turn 30. The movie also sports really cheesy scale models to represent the future city and travel, also the soundtrack is perfect 70’s stuff. Plus, who doesn’t love Michael York?

  • 108. Mei | January 12, 2010 at 10:05 am | #

As cheesy as it may be (ok, is), my favorite sci-fi flick of all time is ET! How can you not love ET with his large googly eyes and drooping eyelashes and a young Drew Barrymore is just too too too adorable for words : )

I love Back to the Future and all in the series!

  • 110. Wai Yeen | January 12, 2010 at 1:18 pm | #

I think one of the earliest si-fi I watched is back-to-the-future. I like the movie because I think the idea of time travelling is indeed possible and might become reality in the near future which makes the movie realistic.

  • 111. Judy | January 12, 2010 at 4:21 pm | #

i posted a couple of comments re: star trek (the new one with eric bana) but they’ve disappeared?? so i’ll post again. i thought you could enter more than once?

Total Recall with Arnie when he goes to Mars and hangs out with the weird ass aliens with 3 breasts and exploding heads and I love the young sexy sharon stone in this film.

    Hi Lorraine!

My fave movie when I was a kid was Flight of the Navigator :) Shiny spaceship, one eyed alien and bopping to The Beach Boys… lol

But I have to say that Star Wars (especially Empire) made the most impact on my life.. My first crush was Luke Skywalker!
I’ve recently had my first baby and I just found somewhere online that sells functioning lightsabres and a star wars cookbook… (ooh the wonders of the interweb)
    its for him.. honest!! :D

the ghostbusters movies are a classic favourite of mine. i don’t know why but the pink slime used to scare me when i was younger?

  • 116. Judy | January 18, 2010 at 12:40 am | #

i really liked the series of “aliens” movies – i think theres 5 of them? there was also an ‘aliens vs predator” movie which i thought was ok too.

  • 117. Cam | January 18, 2010 at 11:20 am | #

My favourite sci-fi film is Final fantasy: The spirits within.
I always remember the first time I saw this movie, the graphics were at that time unrivalled. The sense of wonder I had at how realistic the graphics were, was only beaten by the incredible scenes that were thanks to the endless possibilities of an animated production with a skilled and passionate director. Tying the fantastic and complex imagery together was a story of hope, love and a world unlike our own. From what I hear, Avatar might have taken this combination to a new level.
Definately want to take my Mum if I win these tickets. Fingers crossed.

I loved Contact with Jodie Foster when she ‘reunited’ with her father…

  • 119. Natalie | January 18, 2010 at 3:54 pm | #

    A Clockwork Orange
The haunting music, the eerie, nightmarish style of the setting, the mannequin-like poses of the actors and the lines of perspective that would feature so prominently in Kubrick’s movies.
“The future” was actually 1995 and unbelievably it’s not far from the true modern age as we know it, with over-sexualized art and film, bright gaudy colours and reckless gang violence.

Gotta be the 5th Element with Bruce Willis, good story and very funny.

  • 122. Judy | January 19, 2010 at 11:38 pm | #

the fifth element was a great movie. i didn’t know milla jovovich was a model at the time, but i thought her acting was pretty good. and chris tucker in it…so so hilarious. i recommend the movie just for the chris tucker scenes.

gattaca with uma and ethan when they used to be happy together :S i’m not sure if this was a popular movie or not, but i thought it was great – wish they would play it on tv again.

Has to be Star Wars – another sci-fi where the main lady has plaited her hair!

  • 125. Craig Sawyer | January 20, 2010 at 11:11 am | #

    Movie – Blade Runner

Came out in 1982 – It had an awesome script, great actors Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young and Daryl Hannah (to name a few), brilliant special effects, and like Star Wars spawned a generation of Sci-Fi movies that had better budgets to become A grade movies as opposed to always being relegated to B and C grade

  • 126. Judy | January 21, 2010 at 12:07 am | #

X-men was awesome. I used to watch the cartoon as a kid, so it was cool seeing a live action version of it all. plus i love hugh jackman – who doesn’t?

  • 127. Wan | January 21, 2010 at 5:12 pm | #

My favourite science fiction film is The Fifth Element (1997 – Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich). Until now, I still think of the film, because it opens up my eyes (and brain LOL) to new possibilities, PLUS I love the fact that the heroine is an alien (non human) who use her own body to save Earth (she was the Fifth Element!) She did not even know she could do it, until she was loved by the hero…
Anyway to summarise my answer, I love Fifth Element because it shows that other beings (not human) are the saviour, so Human’s enemy is not alien.

i watched a film called “frequency” starring dennis quaid an jim caviezel a few years ago. it was one of my favourite movies even though i don’t think it did very well in the cinemas. certainly worth having a look at.

  • 132. Smitty | January 23, 2010 at 11:29 am | #

One of my favorite science fiction movies is Idiocracy (2006). A funny (and very very silly) movie about a couple participating in a Pentagon hibernation project and wake up 500 years later only to discover every one on the planet is dumber instead of becoming smarter. They find the amongst other things that the latest WWF wrestling champion is elected the USA president and they are now the smartest people on earth.
Considering Arnold Schwarzenegger is the Governor of California at the moment, I also wonder if this movie could ever come true.

  • 133. Kir | January 23, 2010 at 10:24 pm | #

My favourite Sci-Fi movie is Labyrinth.
It has David Bowie, Jim Henson puppets, Jennifer Connolly and an awesome soundtrack!

The Stepford Wives. It’s almost 12am I’m still doing housework. This film gives me hope that one day I can re-program my husband so I can relax and enjoy life a little!
