Set #2: because the colors are so light, and they remind me of spring, I am going to bake a Banana Cream Pie with it! I made one last year, and I’ve been dying to make one again! The freshness of the wipped cream and bananas is so lovely during this time of year!

  • 2. Hannah | March 28th, 2010 at 4:40 am | #

Definitely the first set! And I’d have to bake something like Pot Roast, because that apron makes me want to be a 50s-era housewife.

  • 3. Tim G | March 28th, 2010 at 5:09 am | #

    I prefer the Josephine,

After my wife giggles at me wearing it, I’d totally be making some Gingerbread men!

  • 4. Katy | March 28th, 2010 at 5:49 am | #

I can’t go past the Josephine set and I’d bake a lemon meringue pie while wearing it :)

  • 5. Valerie | March 28th, 2010 at 6:29 am | #

Hi Lorraine. They’re all lovely but I think my favourite is the red and white spot. Now what to cook in them … mmm … I’m not the best cook, but I do rather fancy the cupcakes you made the other day with the apricot jam and the dear little wrappers they’re cooked in. I’d set a pretty table, cook perhaps some macarons (I can dream) and invite some girlfriends over for a tea party. I think I’d look very fetching pouring tea in my frilled pinny!

  • 6. Liss | March 28th, 2010 at 6:44 am | #

Oh my, now THIS is the competition FOR ME!!!!

I was only saying to hubby yesterday I have all these fabulous aprons for the frills (my girls) and one that is to be honest pretty ugly, for me! I need a pretty apron!

As for baking, I’m baking at least 4 times a week so this week I plan to:

Keep going with my sour dough starter, make some danishes, more hotcross buns for Easter gifts and probably some autumnal cupcakes..

Do I qualify? Do I qualify??

  • 7. Liss | March 28th, 2010 at 6:50 am | #

Oh in my delirium I forgot to tell you which one I prefer! Josephine, of course, it’s RED :P

  • 8. Megan | March 28th, 2010 at 7:14 am | #

I LOVE that first set. In that gorgeous apron I would NEED to bake a delicious cherry pie in my pink pie dish. I’m pretty sure the apron would demand it of me.

  • 10. Nicole McKenzie | March 28th, 2010 at 7:23 am | #

Both aprons are wonderfull, but if forced to choosed it would be the first one. I would cook 2 cakes. One for my daughter who is turning 8, and one for my sister who was adopted out as a baby. I have only got to know her as an adult so it would need to be a special cake. Actually I would give her the prize as well.

  • 11. Veena Gullapalli | March 28th, 2010 at 7:38 am | #

    Doris~~

& I’ll be baking an apple & rhubarb Bill Granger pie, or your lovely baroque cupcakes.

  • 12. Silvia | March 28th, 2010 at 7:42 am | #

    HI Lorraine,

I would love to win the second set and bake a simple Valhrona Chocolate cake! my sister in law brought some over from Singapore and this with chocolate ganache would be delicious!

The smell wafting through the house would probably wake my hubby up!

  • 14. Amy@takentopieces | March 28th, 2010 at 7:56 am | #

Ooh, red is my favourite colour so I would pick the first one. The design is so very beautiful I think I’d have to bake something to match. Raspberry macarons with white chocolate ganache perhaps?

  • 15. Min Ai | March 28th, 2010 at 8:00 am | #

I’d love the 1st pack – lovely red and what a cute little skirt on the apron! The first thing I’d bake is my husband’s favourite – vanilla and blueberry cake. Simple and delicious!

  • 16. Giselle | March 28th, 2010 at 8:07 am | #

Ooh, I adore both sets and wouldn’t mind getting either! I prefer the Doris Pink set just a smidgen more, mainly because I’m pink fiend! I’m planning to bake green tea and chestnut cupcakes for my chinese grandmother, who absolutely loves hot green tea and boiled chestnuts but has never had them in dessert form.

  • 17. Deb | March 28th, 2010 at 8:08 am | #

I l-o-v-e the Josephine set, and it will inspire me to make some cupcakes for my daughter at uni. Her share-house mates are always impressed with my decorated cupcakes!

  • 18. Carol Isaacs | March 28th, 2010 at 8:15 am | #

I love the Doris Pink set.. you see I am a PINK person, I only grow pink flowers in my garden and feel better when I am wearing pink… wearing my Apron I would bake a sponge cake with pink icing and pink mock cream

  • 22. Kim | March 28th, 2010 at 8:32 am | #

The Jesse Steele Doris Pink Modern is sooo pretty. I’d cook equally pretty pink butterfly cup cakes.

  • 23. Joanne | March 28th, 2010 at 8:41 am | #

The Josephine Apron would be my choice. I’d bake vanilla cupcake with vanilla bean frosting topped with Persian fairy floss!

  • 24. barbarawakefield | March 28th, 2010 at 8:46 am | #

My daughter didn’t know what a pinny is! She is nearly forty. I’d love to win the red and white spot apron pack for her then she could wear the pinny when we bake your apricot cup cakes. Barb

  • 25. Jutta Heeren | March 28th, 2010 at 8:47 am | #

I love the polka dot set. I will bake an Apple Strudel as it reminds me of my German mother and childhood! Thanks for the memories!

  • 26. Matilda | March 28th, 2010 at 8:52 am | #

I’d love to win the Doris Pink Jessie Steele Apron set for my youngest daughter Gabriella who’ll be turning 21 on the 2nd June. It’s exquisite and dainty just like her and she’s known as the ‘Cupcake’ Queen ! She’s planning to bake three batches of your Bailey’s cupcake recipe for Easter and decorating with little speckled eggs to give away to family and friends :-)

  • 27. Howard | March 28th, 2010 at 8:57 am | #

Love the Jessie Steele Josephine apron – not for me but….to give to my daughter, then surely it will entice her to bake again that special maple Walnut and Cheese bread of yours that she baked so successfully last time…

  • 28. Lara | March 28th, 2010 at 8:58 am | #

I love the first set! I’d give it to my Mum for mother’s day; she’d probably wear them while making a cake, as she’s been enlisted to do the wedding cake for my brother’s wedding later in the year and she’s been baking up a storm lately trying to find the perfect one!

  • 29. Alice | March 28th, 2010 at 9:01 am | #

woo~~I love the first pack Jessie Steele Josephine Apron..Looks so stunning and flattering:) The next thing I will bake while wearing SJ Apron will be Sticky Chocolate Brownies ~yummm

  • 30. LMurphy | March 28th, 2010 at 9:06 am | #

Ooooh I love, love, love the Josephine set! I would wear it all the time when baking but the first thing I would bake in it? Nigella’s Lemon Meringue Cake-its a family favourite here!

  • 31. foodwink | March 28th, 2010 at 9:10 am | #

Hi Lorraine, I’d like to win the gorgeous Doris Pink pack (the second pack)!

The next thing that I’m going to bake is a carrot cake – so that I can make carrot cake ice-cream according to your recipe of 29 Jan! YUM!

  • 32. kathy s | March 28th, 2010 at 9:14 am | #

what a cute couple of sets and thanks for the chance to win one I just love the Jesse Steele Josephine Set that apron is too cute for words and the accessories wow what a blast-love the RED material it’s just so vibrant- I sure would love to win it and would use it to prepare and cook my Mothers day feast for my tribe- yes I cook my own meal on Mothers day as I don’t have my mum around anymore to cook for.

  • 33. Lisa | March 28th, 2010 at 9:43 am | #

Hi NQN, Long time reader, first time poster! I like the red polka dot Josephine pack as the little flaired skirt is too cute-I think my hubbie would go gag to see me wearing it in the kitchen. My next baking venture is a chai crumbed top cake with an apple layer as I was given a box of golden delicious apples to use up by my mother.

  • 34. Lulu | March 28th, 2010 at 9:43 am | #

I’d like the Josephine apron set and I am going to make your plum clafoutis and the jaffa friands that were recently on My Kitchen Rules – they looked sooooo good!!

  • 35. Lisa (bakebikeblog) | March 28th, 2010 at 9:51 am | #

oh my these are so cute! How to choose between them! I do love the pink one though. I think you would have to make something fabulous when wearing them! I am thinking a tray full of cookies or a rich layered cake :)

  • 36. kiska | March 28th, 2010 at 10:05 am | #

My daughter’s 1st birthday is coming soon, and it’s set in a polka-dot theme – so I am so excited to see this red/white polka dot set!!! I would love to wear it as I bake my french vanilla cupcakes with passionfruit icing, my choc cupcakes with raspberry icing and my sour cherry and ricotta strudel! This is the plan!

  • 37. Theresa | March 28th, 2010 at 10:06 am | #

Josephine for me! They do reek of baking cakes of some sort. So, I would be baking a three tier butter cake with butter cream icing decorated with purple edible glitter and hot pink, rose macaroons.

  • 38. Marie | March 28th, 2010 at 10:26 am | #

I love the red polka dot set. It would accentuate my kitchen perfectly. My kitchen is black and white with a couple of red touches. I’d wear them when I bake a sponge topped with lots of cream and strawberries. mmm, looks good in my head and mmm, will taste equally as good. ;)

  • 39. jl | March 28th, 2010 at 10:29 am | #

Set #1 The Josephine which I sooo totally adore!! I will wear it to the bakeoff at my daughter’s school..we are trying to teach the girls that muffins/cookies and such do not come from shops only!

  • 40. Maree | March 28th, 2010 at 10:30 am | #

#1 Josephine Set! I feel just by looking at it anything I cook will be perfect!:)

  • 41. Kylie | March 28th, 2010 at 10:32 am | #

Most definately the Josephine Apron set. I would have to give it to myself on Mothers Day!

Now this calls for baking – of course. I would have to make something with a whisk and spoon and my kitchenaid most probably. A birthday cake for my husbands 30th on Anzac Day – something challenging. Maybe Adriano Zumbo’s Croquembouche?

  • 42. Phuoc'n Delicious | March 28th, 2010 at 10:34 am | #

    Hi Lorraine,
I would like to win the 1st set. I love the look of the red with pokka dots and the pink bow on the side is so cute. I’m pretty flat on my feet at the moment (due to thesis writing) so I’d love to dig into a cake when I’m done. The cake I would bake would have to be Red Velvet; my American cousins have been bugging me to make it. I can’t wait for it!

  • 43. Phunk | March 28th, 2010 at 10:36 am | #

The Josephine – i’m crazy about red & spots (see my blog for evidence!)
I think item number one on the menu would be Strawberry Shortcake.

  • 44. Kim | March 28th, 2010 at 10:44 am | #

Set Number 1 because it’d match my Sydney Swans supporter gear!

I’d bake cupcakes and with “Sydney Swans” icing for my younger siblings to take to the game.

  • 45. Fiona | March 28th, 2010 at 10:44 am | #

They are both so gorgeous, I’m sure my cooking would improve immensely just by putting on the apron! My favourite set is the Josephine. As for what I would bake? My fabulous potato bake; so easy and delicious!

  • 46. Kym Dodds | March 28th, 2010 at 10:47 am | #

Normally I would go for the pink having a house full of girls but the little red apron with it’s frills is so feminine and sweet I will look fabulous while cooking some cupcakes with mums little helpers.

  • 47. Gillian | March 28th, 2010 at 10:50 am | #

Nothing wrong with a bit of colour coordination now and then, so with that in mind it would be timely to try whipping up my first ever Red Velvet cupcakes, whilst wearing the fabulous red Josephine apron.
In fact, cupcakes taste better when they match your apron, didn’t you know?

  • 48. Chris | March 28th, 2010 at 10:51 am | #

Doris Pink Modern is the 1 I like the best although the frills on Josephine are really cute. The next delicacy coming from my oven is a Flourless Chocolate and Hazelnut cake – rich and gorgeous. Thanks Lorraine for another great comp.

  • 49. maria | March 28th, 2010 at 10:55 am | #

The first pack would inspire a baking frenzy of mouth watering raspberry tarts.

  • 50. Rachel | March 28th, 2010 at 11:04 am | #

I love the first set!! Red & white polka dots.. it would match my new kitchenaid mixer… If I was to win, I would bake my husband the only sweet thing that he will eat. A banana cake made with yoghurt. I might not have a kitchen (hubby is a buider)… but I would look great!!!

  • 51. Mary Preston | March 28th, 2010 at 11:06 am | #

I just adore the Jessie Steele Doris Pink Modern. I can see myself making cup cakes with pink icing. I would probably have to part with it & give it to my Mum once she sees it.

  • 52. Deanna | March 28th, 2010 at 11:11 am | #

I want the second set, and I would make another batch of monkey danishes. I made 25 yesterday and they’re gone and I’m being told I have to make more.

  • 53. Nic | March 28th, 2010 at 11:21 am | #

Set number 1 (Josephine) is gorgeous and therefore my choice for sure. I’d be making a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry coulis… and maybe white chocolate and strawberry cupcakes too…

  • 54. Liv | March 28th, 2010 at 11:28 am | #

Completely in love with the Josephine apron in all it’s fabulousness I think it would be just the confidence I need to finally attempt my own french macarons!

  • 55. Alex | March 28th, 2010 at 11:33 am | #

I love the second pack – the Doris. It’s gorgeous.

The next thing I would bake in them is this wonderful and super quick cinnamon and apple slice I discovered on taste.com.au – it even involves a packet cake mix in the base but is just so easy and tastes amazing, the most compliments I have got for my baking since the sunken sour cherry cake courtesy of yours truly :)

  • 56. amy | March 28th, 2010 at 11:47 am | #

i like the first set! polka dots never go out of fashion! <3 polka dots!
    and…

im looking at attempting macarons with my newly bought food processor!

  • 57. Kylie | March 28th, 2010 at 11:48 am | #

it’s hard to choose, but the first set wins over. That frilly skirt is to die for.
I see myself baking something with chocolate in it. And strawberries. Mmmm chocolatey strawberries…….

  • 58. Miss Emma Louise | March 28th, 2010 at 11:48 am | #

If I had a Doris apron to wear I’d delve into the chapter ‘High and Handsome Layer Cakes’ from the Wooden Spoon Dessert Book. The book is from an out of print and antiquarian cookbook shop in NYC and it has fabulous illustrations of elegant ladies in aprons and with nipped in waists. It was written well before the advent of food porn photography! With Doris on I could definitely get in the mood to bake a Toasted Butter Pecan Cake or perhaps an Illinois Jam Cake. Delicious.

  • 59. Margaret Harris | March 28th, 2010 at 11:50 am | #

    Dear Lorraine,

That vintage Jessie Steele Doris Pink set looks fabulously cool. The apron especially looks like it belongs to one of the 50s housewives from some of my all-time favourite films, like Julie & Julia and The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio. Jessie Steele’s intricate and truly timeless design and style are an absolute winner in my eyes.

I’ve always counted myself lucky to have a wonderful, supportive family who are always enthusiastic about cooking and helping out in the kitchen. We’d love to try out some of Mum’s and Grandma’s vintage recipes, such as Apple and Peach Meringue, served with Boiled Custard. With a gorgeous Doris Pink apron that I’ve got the privilege to see today, who wouldn’t be tempted to walk down memory lane together and relive the recipes long forgotten?

Speaking about Meringues, that Deep Fried Meringues recipe that you showcased in NQN on February 10th looks incredibly superb. I’ll need to be careful though with all the deep frying part. My grand children will be wondering, in 30 years time, what all those stains on the Jessie Steele apron are all about, a reminder of Grandma’s kitchen experiments! ;-)

    Thanks and Yours truly,
    Margaret

  • 60. Kat M | March 28th, 2010 at 11:50 am | #

no 2, hard choice love them both! something indulgent like a black forest gateau cake

  • 61. Raspberry | March 28th, 2010 at 11:54 am | #

Oooooh! I love the first one!

I’m planning to make some hot wings, then your recipe of Portugese Tarts (my parents’ new favourite dessert).

I would even put on a white shirt underneath and wear it out, it’s that adorable! =D
    Thanks!

  • 62. Helen MacFarlane | March 28th, 2010 at 11:55 am | #

In my beautiful ‘Josephine’ apron I would bake my delectably dense Middle Eastern Orange cake, my lovers favorite….served with lashings of sinful King Island Cream and an arousing splash of Grand Marnier. Of course I would be nude whilst wearing my ‘Josephine’, it would be a crime to wear anything else. Napoleon captured the essence of our evening….”I awake all filled with you. Your image and the intoxicating pleasures of last night, allow my senses no rest…”

    Not tonight Josephine….I think not….

  • 63. Daisy | March 28th, 2010 at 12:06 pm | #

Goodness gracious. With those frills and polka dots, not to mention that poker-hot red, who could go past the first prize? It’s oh-so pretty! Now that I am officially a housewife (have a brand new bubby!) I can only imagine the delicious dishes I could serve up while donning that apron and gloves – I’m thinking some hot crossed buns just in time for Easter!

  • 64. Claire | March 28th, 2010 at 12:17 pm | #

The first set is definitely my sort of colours – and I think it’s the sort of outfit in which to try my first version of Strawberry Shortcake – something that’s always appealed but I’ve never quite found the time to make – let the apron be the inspiration. Plus my kids were playing “crocodiles” with my oven mitts and broke both pairs so another would definitely come in handy!

  • 65. Nevarra | March 28th, 2010 at 12:18 pm | #

HI I would love the second set Jessie Steele Doris Pink Modern and I would be baking organic museli bars for the kids!

  • 66. Sarah | March 28th, 2010 at 12:19 pm | #

I’d definitely go for the second set =)

As for what I’d cook, I’d probably try your recipe for the roast chicken with 40 cloves of garlic!

  • 67. Maria Millers | March 28th, 2010 at 12:21 pm | #

Great to see aprons making a comeback! An absolut necessity for the serious cook. Interestingly in bygone times aprons( or any clothing slipped on to cover untidiness underneath) were referred to as
cover – sluts. I cook and bake for a tribe of grandchildren and would be happy with either apron, but the second seems more practical as a cover – slut!!

  • 68. Marilyn Trevor | March 28th, 2010 at 12:34 pm | #

I think both sets are gorgeous, but the Josephine pack would be perfect to wear while christening my new Willow square muffin pan I bought yesterday….making white chocolate and raspberry SQUARE muffins.

  • 69. wendy | March 28th, 2010 at 12:37 pm | #

both sets are so very pretty but i’d like the second one because it looks like it affords a bit more protection because i am unfortunately messy when baking.

and because i went to le grand cafe for the first time a few days ago (and fell in love with their apple tarte tatin) i would bake the apple tarte tatin from your recipe which is a hell of a lot easier than the other ones i found.

  • 70. Lauren | March 28th, 2010 at 12:53 pm | #

    Hi Lorraine,
The Jessie Steele Doris Pink Modern Apron is my favourite, and i’d bake a mile high apple pie ;)
    Cheers

  • 71. Donna | March 28th, 2010 at 1:00 pm | #

I love the Josephine apron – so retro chic! I think I’d bake Nigella’s cinnamon buns while wearing it, the cinnamon buns have been on my “to try” list for ages!

  • 72. Caz | March 28th, 2010 at 1:04 pm | #

    The first one! So cute.

And I’d make cupcakes because you just HAVE to make something sweet and girly the first time you wear an apron like that.

  • 73. MissJane | March 28th, 2010 at 1:07 pm | #

I can see me wearing the Doris set cooking Easter family breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Both sets are truly beautiful.

  • 74. BuBbles | March 28th, 2010 at 1:08 pm | #

I like the Josephine set. The next thing I will be baking is a yummy potato bake!

  • 75. Liny | March 28th, 2010 at 1:27 pm | #

I love the 2nd set. During Easter holiday I’ve got plan to bake Berry Cheesecake and my Mom’s Butter Cake :)

  • 76. Simone McLaughlin | March 28th, 2010 at 1:34 pm | #

I would love the second set… Pink is definately more girly. As to what I would make, I was at the MR’s Greek Grandma’s house yesterday learning how to make tiropetas (Cheese Triangles) from scratch – even the pastry… I realised why her food tastes so Yummy- Because she blesses it before she makes it and she even made a cross on top of the pastry bowl. HOW CUTE!

  • 77. Paquita | March 28th, 2010 at 1:40 pm | #

I love both however am probably more of a pink girl so number 2 & I would bake some yummy confectionary from the ticketyboo english book I was given just last night, Hope & Greenwood’s “Life is Sweet”.

  • 78. Tatania | March 28th, 2010 at 1:41 pm | #

I would love the Jessie Steele Josephine set. They look fantastic, I love the colors and design.
I would be making pasties and banana bread in it. And then lots of other yummy things.

  • 79. Monica | March 28th, 2010 at 1:42 pm | #

Hi … the second set please ! ….. and i can picture some mini baked raspberrie ripple cheesecakes coming out of my oven too …. thanks for the chance .

  • 80. Ting'er | March 28th, 2010 at 1:48 pm | #

Hi Lorraine, definitely hope to win the Josephine set, would be perfect match with my Candy Apple Red KA … making a lime cheesecake for the special someone. Cheerios~

  • 81. Dorothy | March 28th, 2010 at 1:53 pm | #

I would choose the Josephine set because it reminds me of an old fashion housewife apron and they loved baking so that would inspire me to bake an old favourite pumpkin pie yummy.

  • 82. Jay | March 28th, 2010 at 2:01 pm | #

It is so hard to decide. Pink and Red and all shades in between are my absolute favourite. I would absolutely love either, but today I will have to say Doris Pink. The sets are just so gorgeous! If I would be so fortunate to win this beautiful set, the first thing I would bake is a zucchini cake which I have had my eye on for some time now but never had a good excuse to make it before this.

  • 83. Christine | March 28th, 2010 at 2:13 pm | #

Oh! I love the Doris Pink set. So pretty and girly!

I’d have to bake something equally girly to match – maybe those Baroque cupcakes you posted a few days back :)

  • 84. Joy | March 28th, 2010 at 2:17 pm | #

I prefer the Doris Pink – for 2 reasons.
#1 My Grandmothers name is Doris!
#2 My Mum looks stunning in this shade of pink.

If I won, they would be given to my Mother for Mothers day and together we would make Nigella Lawson’s Cupcakes from Domestic Goddess. So fitting! :)

  • 85. Vita | March 28th, 2010 at 2:19 pm | #

  • 88. Leanne Peterson | March 28th, 2010 at 2:31 pm | #

I think the pretty pink second set would be just perfect for baking a retro cake, something like date and walnut roll… served with butter. YUM!

  • 89. Aleah | March 28th, 2010 at 2:38 pm | #

I adore the red Josephine set because I just love that frill at the bottom of the apron. Then while I pretend to be on the set of Mad Men, I’d make some cupcakes with red patty cases.

  • 94. Andrea | March 28th, 2010 at 2:57 pm | #

I love love love the second set! I make such a mess of myself when I bake and always mutter to myself “Must get an apron” but never get around to it. I would make the jaffa cake thats in the latest Good Food (the BBC one).

  • 95. Portuguese Kitchen | March 28th, 2010 at 2:57 pm | #

I’d like the 1st set as it looks so saucy ,a bit like a french maids outfit. What would I bake well I’d bake one of my favorite dishes Roast octopus & then I’d bake the most incredible chocolate truffle cake ever.

  • 96. Nikkixoxo | March 28th, 2010 at 3:08 pm | #

My grandmother used to sew me complimentary aprons so that when we were cooking and baking together (well, it was mostly my grandmother cooking and baking, I was watching and picking up all those wonderful tips you could only obtain from someone who has mastered the art of cooking) we matched. It’s a bit kitsch and corny, but my grandmother was a 50′s housewife so kitsch and corny are totally acceptable. The first thing I would make in the new apron is a gugelhof as it was my Grandmother’s favourtie thing to make – not to mention being quick and easy and a great crowd pleaser!
Then whilst still wearing my delicious strawberry red apron I’d make myself some Lady Grey tea and dig into the fresh, soft gugelhof.

  • 97. miranda | March 28th, 2010 at 3:11 pm | #

I would love the Josephine aprons and pass it on to my daughter who has 2 young boys and just love watching her cook cupcakes.

  • 98. KK | March 28th, 2010 at 3:16 pm | #

#1! the colours work so well together. As for what I’ll cook wearing it? umm, I’m craving apple crumble right now…yum…so warm & comforting.

  • 99. Eunnie | March 28th, 2010 at 3:18 pm | #

I would love to win the first set, they are gorgeous! I would bake some decadent cookies to take into work to share with everyone!

  • 100. Katrina MacDonald | March 28th, 2010 at 3:18 pm | #

The polka dot one please Lorraine! and what woyuld I make? Cupcakes, of course…

  • 101. Amy | March 28th, 2010 at 3:19 pm | #

I just love the Josephine set, and as a new wife I would definitely treat my wonderful husband by baking his favourite, fruit mince pies, even though it’s months til Christmas!

  • 102. Kate | March 28th, 2010 at 3:21 pm | #

    I love the Josephine set!

And I would bake my husbands favourite dessert of all time, NQN’s Crema Catalana.

  • 103. Leanne | March 28th, 2010 at 3:56 pm | #

I think the second is just beautiful. And I’d bake a blueberry cheesecake and maybe some monkey bread too.

  • 104. KT | March 28th, 2010 at 4:04 pm | #

How could I resist the polka dots? The Josephine set is gorgeous.

I will bake a chocolate layer cake. It’s been at least a year since I last baked a cake, which is disappointing.

  • 105. Diane | March 28th, 2010 at 4:09 pm | #

Oh my! Oh my! Red is my colour so definitely the Josephine. I’d be sipping Bollie (Bollinger) whilst whipping up a Nigella Easter Cake – decadence all round in anyone’s book…

  • 106. Mel | March 28th, 2010 at 4:21 pm | #

I love the first set. I’d happily bake some jam drop cookies whilst wearing those polka dots!

  • 107. Cherry | March 28th, 2010 at 4:27 pm | #

I love the polka dots on the Josephine set. I’d bake ladybug cupcakes to match the dots!

  • 108. Miki | March 28th, 2010 at 4:30 pm | #

I’d love the Doris Pink — love the name, I can pretend to be Doris Day (in spite of me being Asian) and cook a nice Sunday roast…

  • 109. Kavitha | March 28th, 2010 at 4:41 pm | #

I love the Doris Pink set. I will bake a mud cake and decorate it for my husband’s birthday.

  • 110. angie | March 28th, 2010 at 4:53 pm | #

Oooo love the polka dot ones! I’d be baking a nice warm chocolate fondant and serve it with a scoop of home made vanilla ice cream ;)

  • 111. lisa | March 28th, 2010 at 4:56 pm | #

I would LOVE the Jessie apron and I would celebrate it’s arrival with a passionfruit sponge cake recipe I’ve been wanting to try. The apron just looks so “good old fashioned sponge cake” to me!

  • 112. jess | March 28th, 2010 at 5:12 pm | #

Oh I remember this competition from last year, it’s great you’re running it again!

I love the first one, the polka dots are gorgeous. Reminds me of what the Betty Parker character wore in “Pleasantville”.

Though it doesn’t really fit in with the 50′s style, I will make some green tea mochi for my boyfriend wearing the Josephine apron

  • 113. April | March 28th, 2010 at 5:26 pm | #

Omg. A couple of months ago I came across these aprons. I absolutely love them.
    Set #1:
Because I LOVE polka dots! And I love the traditional housewife look. First meal I would cook would be a huge baked dinner for my partner and his family on a sunday night. Nothing better in the world! Oh there’s so adorable!

  • 114. Jennifer B. | March 28th, 2010 at 5:33 pm | #

I’m a DORIS PINK girl with my strawberry blonde hair and pale skin!
I’m a JESSIE STEELE admirer regardless.

And as the season draws to an end, I’ll be cooking kilos of tomatoes to make sugo, bottled romas and Grandma’s unbeatable tomato sauce!

Maybe the red set would match that better!… :)

  • 115. sandra | March 28th, 2010 at 5:40 pm | #

The Josephine set for sure. I would love to whip up a layered sponge cake sandwiched by good old whipped cream and jam and some fresh strawberries

  • 116. Cynthia | March 28th, 2010 at 5:42 pm | #

Set #1 Josephine, baking no knead bread. I was so excited when I saw your recipe, I love my sourdough!

  • 117. Linda | March 28th, 2010 at 6:05 pm | #

I think both are cute, but the Josephine set is the one for me!
This definetely calls for my grandmothers flourless chocolate cake – the most delicate, chocolaty, gooey, scrummy thing I have ever tasted….!!

  • 118. Linda | March 28th, 2010 at 6:07 pm | #

Set No.2 for sure. I love that apron style.

I will be making crumpets – what else would one make whilst wearing an apron that beautiful!!

  • 119. Fiona | March 28th, 2010 at 6:09 pm | #

POLKA DOTS! I would make awesome dairy-free goodies for all

  • 120. jodi | March 28th, 2010 at 6:24 pm | #

jospehine is girly and cute, i love the frills and spots. In it i would love to cook a white choc mud cake covered with ganache and then fondant & decorate with my icing creations i have been doing in my cake decorating course

  • 121. Ophelia | March 28th, 2010 at 6:45 pm | #

Set 1, because I have a matching dress!

I’ll cook up an old-fashioned sponge cake, but rather than using just jam and cream in the middle, I’ll put stewed Jonathon apples (SO good at the moment), chopped strawberries and peaches, a swirl of French boysenberry jam, and marscapone-infused cream in the middle. On top would be more of the cream with chopped walnuts and lots of ground cinnamon. What can I say? I feel creative and restless after studying all day, and I have been inspired by my mother this evening proclaiming me “becoming a REALLY good cook” (compared to months ago – before I found NQN – where I didn’t know how to boil an egg).

  • 122. Serena | March 28th, 2010 at 6:56 pm | #

The Josephine set! How can anyone not love polka dots? In a homage to the set, I’m going to bake red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. Hmmmmm.

  • 123. Bobbie | March 28th, 2010 at 6:57 pm | #

I looove the 2nd set, pink & green are my favourite colours! And what I’ll cook in them is green tea cupcakes – recipe my own invention, so I’m not sure if any good yet. I took my daughter to a cupcake party at the Sparkle Cupcaker and tried for a 1st time green tea cupcakes & since then that’s the only thing I think about! I’ve bought some matcha (or is it maccha???)powder and tapioca and have researched 100 of recipes until I’ve made my own, but I still fill a bit scared to start, so maybe these gorgeous accessories will give me some confidence :-) The other thing I want to try is Red velvet cake, that’s the second on my list to try to cook & another reason I can’t sleep at night (I won’t mention my 4 month old, between him & the thought of cupcakes, red velvet cakes and other recipes, I can’t get much sleep)!

  • 124. Samantha | March 28th, 2010 at 7:25 pm | #

They are both so gorgeous but if I really had to choose, I’d like the the Doris Pink set please. The first thing I’m gonna make would be some scones for afternoon tea. I might also leave the apron on as I enjoy the end product.

  • 125. Chris | March 28th, 2010 at 7:28 pm | #

I love the josephine apron, and I will be baking something labour-intensive, that will require me to check the oven every 2 minutes, in the attempt to distract myself from the law readings I will no doubt be avoiding!

  • 126. Charm | March 28th, 2010 at 7:39 pm | #

Oooo, I looooooove the Josephine set. I’m going to make lemon bars as well as try my hand at making an apple pie.

  • 127. Vicki Matthews | March 28th, 2010 at 7:53 pm | #

    Hi NQN!

What wouldn’t I bake while wearing the lovely Josephine set?! hehe! I normally tuck a tea towel into my shirt like a bib haha! I’m such a dag.

There are so many things I’d like to create. Chocolate mousse cake would be a great adventure!

  • 128. Jilly | March 28th, 2010 at 7:55 pm | #

I love the red with pink polkas! I love the coquettish colours and design.
I would bake a South African milk tart!

  • 129. nikki | March 28th, 2010 at 8:11 pm | #

Oh how lovely!! I’ll go for the Josephine, myself.

Baking…well, I’m not much into sweet foods, so perhaps I’ll bake some potatoes, pumpkin & eggplant with a few good slugs of olive oil, sea salt, fennel seeds and chilli flakes. Oh, and throw a few whole garlic cloves in there too. Yes, that’s what I’ll “bake” :)

  • 130. Genevieve | March 28th, 2010 at 8:13 pm | #

I love love love the Doris set, and because I always manage to make a super huge mess when I bake ( or do anything in the kitchen), the added length of the apron is practical for me :) hehe

My niece’s 3rd birthday is coming up, and I was planning to attempt your incredible Princess Torte!
all that creme patissiere… it should be fun, and with the Doris, the torte and I would be matching!

Thanks NQN for your daily inspiration!

  • 131. Adrasteia | March 28th, 2010 at 8:22 pm | #

I love the Josephine! I’d pretend to be one of the glamorous wives in mad men who really never cooked at all… I have found a lovely recipe for no-knead foccacia which is next on my baking list, and it marks all the boxes. I’ll need to apron to protect me from flour, the pot holders to get it from the oven and the tote bag to take it and some wine to somewhere wonderful to share with my special someone

  • 132. Paula | March 28th, 2010 at 8:27 pm | #

I would love the first set. My wonderful late aunt was named Josephine, she was as bright and colourful as the apron set, so the choice was a easy one. What I would bake? Well, its my birthday (and twin sisters birthday) tomorrow so I would make so a yummy feast for friends and family. Prawn ravioli with sauce vierge. For dessert Choc-ice meringues with hot white chocolate sauce. YUM

  • 133. Susan | March 28th, 2010 at 8:35 pm | #

The Josephine set is definitely the standout.

I’d be making random shaped cookies with gingerbread dough :)

  • 134. penny aka jeroxie | March 28th, 2010 at 8:51 pm | #

I love SET 2! I will bake my own birthday cake that is coming up soon. Always fearful of baking but will give it a shot if I win this. :) And of course I will use one of your fun recipes.

  • 135. Cheryl Haining | March 28th, 2010 at 9:05 pm | #

Wearing my Josephine apron, I can see myself carefully removing a perfect ginger fluff sponge from the oven with my red spotted mits.

  • 136. Barbara Weber | March 28th, 2010 at 9:06 pm | #

Both sets are fantastic, fresh and beautifully made and would make a welcome addition to my kitchen!

  • 137. Kelley | March 28th, 2010 at 9:14 pm | #

Now that I have an oven that WORKS I will bake EVERYTHING!

    Especially if it involves lemon.

    Mmmmmm, lemon…

    Pack number one for me!

  • 138. deana | March 28th, 2010 at 9:27 pm | #

Lorraine> I so wish I lived in Australia… these beautiful aprons almost make me want to wear one instead of the old towel at the waist that I am used to…lovely and a sweet giveaway!

  • 139. Katherine | March 28th, 2010 at 9:28 pm | #

These aprons are just so darn cute. They remind me of the Stepford Wives. Ok so this is not an entry I just wanted to say how cute they are. Whoever wins this is one lucky chick or dude ehehehe.

  • 140. Natasha | March 28th, 2010 at 9:34 pm | #

    Hi NQN

I have been a long time readerand really enjoy your blog. To answer your question I would choose the first one, Josephine, and I would cook Julie Child’s Boeuf Bourguignon and for dessert I would make an opera torte.

  • 141. anja | March 28th, 2010 at 9:37 pm | #

Even If I’m not an australian resident I love the second set and would make a mothwatering italian lasagna.

  • 142. Miss Marci | March 28th, 2010 at 9:40 pm | #

Josephine all the way- can not go past spots. I’m really feeling this comp as it’s my Birthday on the 18th – and so I can safely say I will be baking my birthday cake! I’m thinking a Flourless-Chocolate Cake in the Black Forest…. mmmmm (to go with my Mad Hatter’s theme)… I really can’t go past a WELL-MADE black forest – the cream has to be fresh and not too sweet! – and flourless, so I can share with my dear gluten-free mummy!

  • 143. vonnie | March 28th, 2010 at 9:56 pm | #

definitely the first set, i’d make some cupcakes or bake a cake with my mum to celebrate mother’s day!

  • 144. Mary Daniel | March 28th, 2010 at 10:02 pm | #

    Ooohhh gorgeous!

A fiery Aries at heart, I love all things red so the Josephine set it would be for me. And to cook it would have to be something equally as saucy – Spaghetti Bolognese!

  • 145. shaz | March 28th, 2010 at 10:08 pm | #

The red with the polka dots please! I have matching red/polka dot cupcake wrappers so I will bake cupcakes of course :)

  • 146. Amy | March 28th, 2010 at 10:09 pm | #

I love the Josephine pack. I would wear the apron. I cannot resist polka dots, bows and pretty things.

  • 147. Kym | March 28th, 2010 at 10:23 pm | #

I’d feel like Ellie May from the Clampets (think quite a few years back folks) in the Josephine, and of course to honour that I’d have to bake something like possum pie… but I won’t lol, once the family pick themselves up off the floor at seeing me in something so stunning (actually at seeing me in an apron), I’d have to make the occasion memorable and cook Mum’s caramel tart.

  • 148. MissGlutton | March 28th, 2010 at 10:24 pm | #

Jessie Steele Josephine Oven Mitt. Definitely feel like watermelon cake with these.

  • 149. Jonathan | March 28th, 2010 at 10:43 pm | #

i would prefer the second set but the truth is that i don’t bake. it’s for my girlfriend who’s an avid follower of your blog and it would really make her day if i can win this for you. will love to see her wear this and bake her signature cookies for me.

  • 150. Jamie | March 29th, 2010 at 2:18 am | #

Too sweet! And what girl wouldn’t bake better wearing these beautiful aprons! I would look so much better in the second apron. Just because. And I’ll bake something rich, decadent and chocolate. Promise!

  • 151. Vicky Atkins | March 29th, 2010 at 6:28 am | #

The Josephine is very cute, I would try and bake hubby a cake at least if it flopped I would still look cute!

  • 155. Janey | March 29th, 2010 at 7:58 am | #

I like the first set as I love the flick out design. I am going to be baking your No Knead bread – tried it on the weekend and it was perfectly cooked in my old wood fired oven at our farm – thank you

  • 156. Jenny | March 29th, 2010 at 8:06 am | #

The Josephine Set as it’s red and goes well with my pale skin! I would bake a New York cheesecake and chocolate cupcakes wearing it, (should I win).

  • 158. Anita | March 29th, 2010 at 8:54 am | #

The Jessie Steele Josephine Apron set is awesome!!! I would make an old fashioned cinnamon tea cake. Or perhaps a more decadent brownie recipe :)

  • 159. Chezamataz | March 29th, 2010 at 9:06 am | #

Whipping on the gorgeous red and white poka dot set would transform me into the ultimate kitchen goddess (or atleast make me look the part!). And since it’s reminicent of my childhood days prancing around in the Strawberry Shortcake dress my mother bought me I think baking a batch of these little red beauties with be an absolute treat!

  • 160. Cakelaw | March 29th, 2010 at 9:26 am | #

I love the Doris – so retro 50s. I would bake a peach tart wearing it to go with the delightful colours in the set.

  • 161. gastronomygal | March 29th, 2010 at 9:48 am | #

Oh my goodness- how gorgeous. I like pack one the best but I won’t be baking anything in this beautiful attire. one of my best friendd has just bought her first unit so I would give this beautiful gift to her. As she is a country girl and a traditionalist, I can imagine that she will make some beautiful cookies including choc chip, anzac, jam drop and melting moments.

  • 162. Maria | March 29th, 2010 at 10:05 am | #

The Josephine set would inspire me to bake something sexy and decadent. Perhaps a beautiful and extra rich chocolate cake topped with scrumptious cream and strawberries. Time for morning tea ……

  • 163. mininomer | March 29th, 2010 at 10:11 am | #

The 2nd Set!! I love the pastel flowers and the soft-ness of it :) I would bake apple napoleon with toffee crunch (I make seperate toffee sheets and break them up to sprinkle on the pastry) YUM!!

  • 164. MissJane | March 29th, 2010 at 10:13 am | #

The Polka Dots look hot. I would cook a hot curry to accompany the hot dots.

  • 165. Sweet-tooth | March 29th, 2010 at 10:21 am | #

It’s love at the first sight. Gorgeous red colour,so feminine and cute. I can picture myself wearing this and make a delicious Red Velvet Cake. Once I finish, will enjoy it with a cup of earl grey tea.

    ST

  • 166. Lesley Needham | March 29th, 2010 at 10:24 am | #

I love the Doris set. It would go nicely against my skin tone incase I ever want to serve up a special romantic dessert a la naturale.
The first thing I will make while wearing the apron would be playdough. This will distract the kids while I cook a cake in peace. If I dont distract the kids they will open the oven every 5 minutes yelling “is it ready yet?”.

  • 167. Esz | March 29th, 2010 at 10:40 am | #

The first set! I love the ruffles and the bow. I’d have to bake something red to match so probably a Red Velvet cake. yum!

  • 168. Shelley Pollock | March 29th, 2010 at 11:13 am | #

I would love the gorgeous Josephine set! I would like to say that I would cook something delightful and delicious and difficult when wearing it but the truth is, that coming into winter, I would be making soup in it – Cauliflower, fennel and whitebean. Not terribly hard but terribly messy….for me, anyway! :)

  • 169. Sarah | March 29th, 2010 at 11:36 am | #

Its got to be the Doris Pink set! Something that cute would have to be accompanied by a classic dish – passionfruit sponge anyone?

  • 170. Alissa | March 29th, 2010 at 12:11 pm | #

Ooh the first one! Would be perfect for baking red velvet cupcakes!

  • 171. audrey | March 29th, 2010 at 12:24 pm | #

and the dish, chicken salad..the only thing i’ve been making for him hehe

  • 172. Donna | March 29th, 2010 at 12:40 pm | #

  • 174. Jupiter_halo | March 29th, 2010 at 1:15 pm | #

The First Set. ( Hard pick though) and the next time i’m baking it, i’m going to whip up my husbands fave – cornish pasties and tiramsu dessert.

  • 175. Sian | March 29th, 2010 at 1:28 pm | #

I am about to embark on a career of domestic goddess-ness and I feel the Josephine set would be a wonderful addition to my post-work wardrobe! It will go very well with my limited edition candy apple red KitchenAid that work is giving me as a farewell present! What would I cook with it? I would say EVERYTHING! But the first thing I would cook would be a flourless apple, ginger and almond cake I have been itching to try out!

  • 176. Caroline | March 29th, 2010 at 1:53 pm | #

I love the first set because it reminds me of the 1950s and 1960s. In keeping with that theme, I would cook something from Julia Childs “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” – I think Boeuf Bourguignon would be appropriate!

  • 177. Little Chef's Mum | March 29th, 2010 at 3:05 pm | #

    The Josephine.

    Red. Sexy. Red!!!

For some reason it inspires me to go all old school and cook a gorgeous pav with loads of lush strawberries mmmmm…

  • 178. Di | March 29th, 2010 at 3:30 pm | #

I’d love the spotty Josephine set as I just think it makes a statement. I think I’d bake a carrot cake!

  • 179. Amy@takentopieces | March 29th, 2010 at 3:39 pm | #

I would love the Josephine set and, if not making something red and white like a pavlova with raspberries, would make Nigella’s deep and velvetty chocolate marsala cake. Chocolate and red go together so beautifully.

  • 180. wenqi | March 29th, 2010 at 4:22 pm | #

set number 1. the hot red apron will go well with me baking some really crunchy roasted pork belly….

  • 181. georgia | March 29th, 2010 at 5:08 pm | #

    the first set, josephine:)
defiantly muffins as their good to take to uni, maybe dark choc and macadamia or just a “healthy” not really blueberry.

  • 182. Lexia | March 29th, 2010 at 5:37 pm | #

Definitely the Josephine – love the 50′s look! I will make some of my favourite Greek almond shortbread and some of my sisters famous vanilla butter cream cupcakes…

  • 183. Michelle Tang | March 29th, 2010 at 5:47 pm | #

    Hi Lorraine,
I would love to win the Jessie Steele Josephine set!
So that I can make Easter-styled cupcakes for my best friend named Jessie as well!

  • 184. Jasmin | March 29th, 2010 at 5:57 pm | #

How could I go past the Josephine. I have a pair of patent red pumps that would look splendid with that set.

And in true fifties fashion, it would have to be a Chiffon Cake. I’ve been thinking about Chiffon Cake since I read Poh’s blog explaining the mystery of rising Chiffon Cakes.

It would all come together perfectly.

  • 185. Janelle | March 29th, 2010 at 5:59 pm | #

The 2nd set as I like the flowers and I think I will make muffins as I have a current obsession with them.

  • 186. tonybalone'sDaughter | March 29th, 2010 at 6:52 pm | #

    Hi NQN!
I would wear the #1 Josephine apron whilst baking a Cindy Crawford Strawberry Pie. I would also leave out the rhubarb, for no other reason but because I lovvvveee strawberries. I could just imagine strawberry splattering my new cute apron whilst the sauce bubbles away.

  • 187. Megan | March 29th, 2010 at 7:42 pm | #

I would love to win the second set, the Doris Pink!

I’ve been hanging out to make a big lemon meringue pie so I’d probably bake that while wearing them!

  • 188. Suburban Impi | March 29th, 2010 at 7:52 pm | #

Polka-Polka-dotty-doo that’s the one for me!! Girly and flattering to the figure!

Makes you want to swish it around from side to side.

I`m writing on behalf of my cousin Vicky who lives in Brisbane (as I live in Johannesburg SA). I would suggest she make your Strawberry Macaron Sandwiches (February 24, 2009 post)
It`s playful and fun and would go perfectly with the dotted apron.

She has a new baby and 2,5 year old! She will look fabulous in the Polka-dotty apron.

It will make her feel like a woman and wife again and not an exhausted mom.

  • 189. Danielle | March 29th, 2010 at 8:07 pm | #

Set 1…I will bake vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing.. very simple.

  • 190. Liz | March 29th, 2010 at 8:08 pm | #

The first.. spotty set! :) It’s gorgeous! I would wear it to bake banana muffins with my mum. We have lots of bananas thats gonna go off soon

  • 191. Elle | March 29th, 2010 at 8:10 pm | #

    set #1
I will use it to make dinner for my family.. the set just brings out my inner domestic goddess!

  • 192. MALYNDA | March 29th, 2010 at 8:13 pm | #

I would love to win the Josephine set – it would match my kitchen down to the ground. I would wear it whilst making cookies with my adorable 3 year old son who is appreciating the art of baking more and more every weekend. Thanks so much for the opportunity.

  • 193. Jacqui Lagaluga | March 29th, 2010 at 8:21 pm | #

The Doris Set is so 50′s and feminine that I just adore it!It’s just the right accessory to be wearing while creating a pineapple upside down cake that is delicious served with fresh whipped cream and a little nutmeg, either as a dessert or afternoon tea treat!!

  • 194. Paulina | March 29th, 2010 at 8:36 pm | #

    Hi Lorraine,

Set number 1 would definitely be my choice. I feel like the red polka dots would definitely inspire me to make a gorgeous chocolate cake with lashings of icing. Yummmo.

  • 195. Giselle | March 29th, 2010 at 8:39 pm | #

I really hope I win the Doris pink set! Wearing it, I can imagine attempting macarons for the first time. Strawberry macarons with a rose-flavoured filling.

  • 196. Linda | March 29th, 2010 at 8:46 pm | #

Hi Lorraine! I’d really like the first set because Easter’s coming up and I’m planning to make hot cross buns for the family feast and it’d be awesome if i had a new set of aprons and mitts :)

  • 197. Rowena | March 29th, 2010 at 8:58 pm | #

The Josephine set and I’ll be baking my son’s first birthday cake!

  • 198. Janelle | March 29th, 2010 at 9:21 pm | #

Set #1. I love polka dots! And the little frill on the bottom of the apron is just gorgeous. So 50′s and lovely! My boyfriend calls me his little 50′s housewifey as some of my dresses look like ones from that era and to be able to be a little 50′s housewifey in the kitchen in that apron set would just be fab! I would make him his favourite lemonade scones with homemade strawberry jam and cream. With perhaps some of your bacon jam on toasted ciabatta to begin with! Cheers, Janelle xx

  • 199. Kate | March 29th, 2010 at 9:32 pm | #

The first set and I’d make something chic and sexy like cupcakes!

  • 200. Belinda G | March 29th, 2010 at 9:52 pm | #

I am definately keen on the red set- just so gorgeous and fun.

In terms of what i would bake in it- I think such a gorgeous apron deserves something special- perhaps finally making my own pastry for my lemon tart?

But I am particularly excited by the idea of the apron as I am organising my friends kitchen tea and we are having a cooking theme and all wearing aprons to the event. I’d love to have such a snazzy one of the occation!

  • 201. Siska | March 29th, 2010 at 10:45 pm | #

Definitely I will go with the first set! So cute n funky… and with this apron, I will bake my first cake ever for my hubby’s birthday!!! :D Yayyy….

  • 202. Jan | March 30th, 2010 at 12:41 am | #

I would love the 2nd set and I wear them when I made sourdough whole wheat dinner rolls

  • 203. AppleTree | March 30th, 2010 at 4:09 am | #

I’d bake my husband’s birthday cake. We always make each other birthday cakes from scratch for the others birthday.

    Maybe I’d wear just the apron… ;)

  • 204. Michelle | March 30th, 2010 at 8:09 am | #

Set 1; I have to do a trial run of my sisters 21st birthday cake and cupcakes! Double chocolate of course shes the avid chocoholic in our house :)

  • 205. Michelle | March 30th, 2010 at 8:15 am | #

  • 206. Jenny | March 30th, 2010 at 8:20 am | #

I would love the Doris Pink one, I would make a almond rose cake, with rose water icing.

  • 207. Angie | March 30th, 2010 at 8:22 am | #

The Josephine apron is perfect for my mum.
Since she is the one with the apron on.
I request that she make my favourites.
    Honey Joys and Gingerbread men.
Oh musn’t forget the chocolate crackles.

  • 208. Claire | March 30th, 2010 at 8:55 am | #

    Although both are pretty,
The Josephine set is more for me.
I’d bake an old fashioned lemon cake
And over to mum’s I’d take.
I fear she’d want this devine apron for free,
So I’d have to hide it and keep it for me! ;-)

  • 209. Annie B | March 30th, 2010 at 8:55 am | #

I would be in heaven to win the DORIS and I would create the prettiest petit fours of the lightest sponge, iced with delicate cream icing and pale pink roses to match my apron. I would serve them with steaming begamot tea, whilst wearing my divine DORIS pinnie …

  • 210. Bridget | March 30th, 2010 at 10:02 am | #

Love either they are both so darn cute, but if I have to pick one it is the red Josephine. And the first thing I would bake would be a Red Velvet Cake, it would just be so appropriate…

  • 211. Paula | March 30th, 2010 at 11:53 am | #

I love the first one and even have a pair of shoes that would match it!!

I would bake up a batch of peanut butter brownies while wearing the apron with the matching shoes – bliss.

  • 212. Louise | March 30th, 2010 at 12:52 pm | #

It would have to be the first one, it’s so cute with the bow! Seeing as we are renovating and I don’t have a kitchen at the moment I’d save it to wear while making the first meal in our new kitchen! I wouldn’t mind what it was, just something not BBQ’d! Possibly a cake to christen my new oven!

  • 213. Di | March 30th, 2010 at 12:56 pm | #

Love the red spotty Josephine, so I’d choose that pack. I’d bake banana muffins, haven’t made those in quite a while!

  • 214. Kahlee | March 30th, 2010 at 1:09 pm | #

Set # 1 – and I’d have to make the Banana Butterscotch Trifle!

    The first set..
i hope to make cookies with them! :)

  • 218. Alysha Tan | March 30th, 2010 at 6:16 pm | #

Set number 1 because i love the eye catching red! plus polka dots are my favourite:) I can just picture me making an apple and cinnamon flan with this apron as i recently bought a new flan baking dish! X

  • 219. Wendy K | March 30th, 2010 at 7:05 pm | #

Love to own set #1. I would bake a spotted dick with my new spotted apronn if i won…hahaha

  • 220. PassionateMae | March 30th, 2010 at 11:10 pm | #

OMG! I always wanted an apron, but believe this or not, I do not own one. But I’ve been keeping an eye on Jessie Steele Josephine! And wear them while I’m baking something fun like Pop Balls/Cakes! Because the Josephine collection is so girlie but spells F-U-N, I so have to bake fun goodies too!

  • 221. Yuki | March 30th, 2010 at 11:13 pm | #

    Hi Lorraine,
I love the Josephine set! i just love the polka dots…not to mention that the ribbon at the side it’s drop-dead gorgeous!!! It’s just way too adorable and i can totally see myself plaiting my hair (hopefully with polka dot ribbons!) for the day that i’ll use it for baking some goodies =)

  • 222. Yuki | March 30th, 2010 at 11:19 pm | #

    Hi Lorraine,
I love the Josephine set! i just love the polka dots…not to mention that the ribbon at the side it’s drop-dead gorgeous!!! It’s just way too adorable and i can totally see myself plaiting my hair (hopefully with polka dot ribbons!) for the day that i’ll use it for baking some goodies =) Winning the set will definately give me a reason to attempt making macarons(something that i’ve been dreading for a long long time)as they definately match the cuteness of the set!

(*sorry for the previous unfinished comment!)

  • 223. Sonia | March 30th, 2010 at 11:31 pm | #

Doris ( the cut is more flattering for a food lover like me although both are cute) … and apple pie, good, honest, seasonal, unpretentious food from the heart.

  • 224. Kiera | March 31st, 2010 at 7:51 am | #

Definitley perfer the first set! And I would have to have a dinner party and cook for mains a chicken and pancetta pasta with rocket, and for dessert chocolate mousse, the creamy velvety chocolate with a touch of whipped cream and shavings of dark chocolate sprinkled on top. Simple yet heavenly meal!

  • 225. reddoorread | March 31st, 2010 at 9:59 am | #

Doris Pink is gorgeous and I would bake some scones while drinking a Pimms and lemonade.

  • 226. Julia | March 31st, 2010 at 10:08 am | #

Josephine and I would bake lemon and sugar bundt cake. I have been dying to try it ever since I read the description that it tastes like lemon and sugar crepes!

  • 227. Jen-B-Bakin' | March 31st, 2010 at 11:31 am | #

Oh, how I love pretty things!!! I would definitely love the second set. It would inspire me to make a delicious mockingbird cake topped with fresh edible flowers – yum!!!

  • 228. Victoria | March 31st, 2010 at 12:37 pm | #

Ooh, the first one is so cute!! I’d have to make something Americana- like an apple rhubarb cobbler.

  • 229. christina grant | March 31st, 2010 at 1:05 pm | #

I’d LOVE to own set one..
I’m having daydreams about baking American style chocolate fudge brownies in it as I type :)

  • 230. Lee-Fay | March 31st, 2010 at 2:03 pm | #

Oh the first set definitely and I would bake my daughter a very hungry cupcake caterpillar birthday cake!

  • 231. Brenda | March 31st, 2010 at 4:13 pm | #

I love the Josephine apron. Didn’t win it last year, but I’m going to keep trying! I’d love to bake some cupcakes whilst wearing it….doesn’t it just scream “cupcakes”? hahahaha!

  • 232. Jess | March 31st, 2010 at 4:35 pm | #

Second pack please! I would bake energy muffins to spur me on on the long days I’m having nowadays.

  • 233. Emily | April 1st, 2010 at 2:20 am | #

    Hi

  • 234. Jo Murray | April 1st, 2010 at 8:02 am | #

Oooh la la – the snazzy red number for me please!!!

Definately it would be a feast not just a dish I would prepare.

Steamed Lobster tail with chilli butter.

Beef wellington or a rib eye rack roast with roasted herb vegetables.

Chocolate Baskets filled with kahlua mousse topped with strawberries and cream.

My husband would be in heaven…

  • 235. Jo | April 1st, 2010 at 1:49 pm | #

The Josephine set! And I’ll be baking vanilla cupcakes from the Primrose bakery recipe book or brownies using my friend Genevieve’s recipe – she makes the most amazing brownies ever!

  • 236. Brenda | April 1st, 2010 at 3:49 pm | #

Josephine….I’d love to bake some lasagne. Never done it from scratch but it would be great to cook that wearing this apron set.

  • 237. emily | April 1st, 2010 at 6:54 pm | #

    Set #2 please!

It will match my new kitchen cabinets! I will bake my first ever carrot cake in my new oven!

  • 238. Tamra Beaumont | April 1st, 2010 at 8:02 pm | #

I love both of the sets but my fave one is the ‘Josephine’…red is definitely more me but I’m happy with either!! I’d probably be making my scrumptious chocolate mud cake that never lasts too long around here! Thanks for the chance to enter.

  • 239. Angie | April 2nd, 2010 at 10:29 am | #

    Josephine would be just dandy.
Would baking my son’s pottery count?
Hope our oven would be hot enough.

  • 240. Kristel | April 2nd, 2010 at 11:18 am | #

I love the second set, it’s gorgeous! And I’m sure it would make me look pretty good while I make a mega chocolate fudge cake mmmm

  • 241. Carolyn | April 2nd, 2010 at 2:50 pm | #

Ooooh! Set #1 is gorgeous (well, they both are). If I won, I would expand my horizons beyond my love of baking, and make something quite different like rack of lamb. Hmmm…

  • 242. Carolyn | April 2nd, 2010 at 2:52 pm | #

Ooh. I just saw the Australian residents rule…I’m an Australian citizen living in Montreal, but my family still live in Australia. Does that count?

  • 243. Sally | April 2nd, 2010 at 7:59 pm | #

I would love the first set “Josephine” as it is fun and bright and that’s what my baking is all about! I would have to bake some yummy cookie and cupcakes. I love spots….and also love the Blog! Keep up the great work.

  • 247. Amelia Behrend | April 3rd, 2010 at 9:25 am | #

LOVE the red polka-dot Josephine set! I’d be making choc-chip hot cross buns….they’re delicious all year ’round!

  • 248. Cheryl Moulton | April 3rd, 2010 at 9:32 am | #

I love the striking ‘Josephine’ set, it is practical yet feminine.
As I am moving (in just 10 days) to Melbourne to be closer to my daughter, son in law and grandchildren yahoooooooo, the first baking that I will do wearing and using the ‘Josephine’ set will be cookies for my Ethan and Emily.

  • 249. Lucy | April 3rd, 2010 at 9:50 am | #

The Josephine set is the perfect baking outfit, since I’m so polka dot obsessed! When I was little my dream was to own a yellow polka dot bikini (like in the song) and I nagged my parents for months until I could get one. Even now every time I enter a shop my eyes wander straight to the polka dotted items on offer – it’s a veritable addiction! Now I’m thinking about polka dots in baking – perhaps red velvet cupcakes with spots of vanilla buttercream? Or perhaps a rich lemon yoghurt cake studded with raspberries might copy the look? Hmmm … I could always go back to the old childhood favourite (and ultimate spotted treat) of fairy bread, except this time made from homemade brioche spread with marscapone cream. All food is more fun when polka dots are involved!

  • 250. dessertfirst | April 3rd, 2010 at 10:35 am | #

I want the Josephine sooooooooo badly. I have been promissed it for every occasion since it came out & still don’t have it. :-(
As for what I would make while wearing it….. A messy kitchen for sure lol.
    Meg

  • 251. Marcia | April 3rd, 2010 at 2:44 pm | #

  • 253. Cheryl Moulton | April 4th, 2010 at 7:45 am | #

    Josephine set. Veal marengo

  • 258. Kim | April 5th, 2010 at 10:31 am | #

Oh! That pink set is so girly – I would wear that apron and make vanilla cupcakes lashed with oodles of pink icing! It’s very Elle Woods…

  • 259. Katherine Ryan | April 5th, 2010 at 2:58 pm | #

I’d choose the Josephine set, anything darker that will show fewer stains is a plus for me! I would make something with pastry, perhaps pasties, mini meat pies or apple pie, as I always make the biggest mess of my clothes rolling out pastry. I end up with tiny pieces of dough stuck to myself and flour spread right down my front from absent-mindedly leaning against the counter. Winning this would mean I could keep myself clean AND stylish whilst happily baking away! :)

  • 260. Rachel | April 5th, 2010 at 4:39 pm | #

The first set because it is so bright and the arpon is so flirty! I will bake my kids’ favorite cinnamon scrolls with cream cheese frosting wearing it!

  • 261. marion matthews | April 5th, 2010 at 4:45 pm | #

I’d like to win set 2 as I loooooove pink. So I would be baking a berry meringue roulade to ad more delicious pink to my day!

  • 262. Su-Lynn L | April 5th, 2010 at 7:50 pm | #

As a mother of four boys, I have kitchen full blue accessories. The Jessie Steele Doris Pink will be a wonderful addition to make the next family roast dinner complete.

  • 263. Susan J | April 5th, 2010 at 10:41 pm | #

I LOVE the first set! I would put it on and transform into some kind of kitchen super hero — an anonymous food goodie out to save the world from bad cuisine!

I would whip up a 3 course gourmet dinner for all the victims of evil edibles! :p

Sautéed scallops with a creamy mornay sauce and steamed asparagus for entrée, Stuffed baked quail with a succulent gravy and roasted root veges for main and a layered orange chiffon cake with chocolate ganache drizzled over the top for a decadent dessert!

  • 264. MissGlutton | April 5th, 2010 at 11:34 pm | #

Jessie Steele Doris Pink with pear and beef tagine sprinkled with pine nuts, served with freshly baked Moroccan bread from the oven! Maybe baklava for dessert.

  • 265. Nooschi | April 6th, 2010 at 9:41 am | #

I’d prefer the Doris Pink…I would definitely bake my mother-in-laws perfect healthy apple pie. Comforting and healthy at the same time. Mmmmm…

  • 266. Amy | April 6th, 2010 at 11:16 am | #

Oh I love the Josephine set. I’d happily whip up a decadent Strawberry Shortcake in that adoreable little number, accompanied with lashings of cream. Yum

  • 267. Christina W | April 6th, 2010 at 2:14 pm | #

Definitely the second set and will be making mochi cake for my bakers’ meet-up coming up next month.

  • 268. Rachel | April 6th, 2010 at 3:35 pm | #

Set number one. And I would bake a pie because 1) you need to bake while wearing these aprons, it really calls for it and 2) red polka dots are so cute and make me want to cook pie… hmmm.. in fact… I could go for some pie right now…

  • 269. Di | April 6th, 2010 at 5:21 pm | #

I prefer the Josephine set, and I’d like to bake a Lemon Meringue Pie, because they are just so delicious!

  • 270. Rebecca | April 6th, 2010 at 6:43 pm | #

Set #2…and now it’s raining again, so I would love to make an apple and apricot pie!

  • 271. Anna | April 6th, 2010 at 9:48 pm | #

I love the Josephine apron! In this apron I will bake for the first time, something simple like chocolate cupcakes.

  • 272. Chezamataz | April 7th, 2010 at 11:53 am | #

Oh Josephine! Be still my culinary heart…
    Like cherries and cream
    It’d be such a scream
    To don this chic outfit
To braise a delectable duck confit
    A recipe to savour
    A definite dinner saviour
    And oh…matching oven mitts!
    What an instant hit
I’ll be the envy of every eye
As I whip up warm apple pie
    Topped with sweet sugar treats
Oh Josephine..when will we finally meet?

  • 273. Kate | April 7th, 2010 at 12:15 pm | #

I still love the Josephine set and I think baking that Lavender Shortbread you posted about today would be perfect! Because “I’m a Lady!”

  • 277. Jadey | April 8th, 2010 at 12:10 am | #

Oh Lorraine they are both so gorgeous who could choose? I love the Jesphine though honestly it is such a stunning, classic, complimentary set.

I think when it lands on my doorstep “Josephine” and I would have to start baking something classic immediately like some great scones. It screams classic.

I think it’d be the perfect thing for me to wear when doing my tupperware demo’s too. I love colour.

  • 278. Megan | April 8th, 2010 at 1:47 pm | #

The Doris modern, so cute! AFter conquering hot cross buns this Easter, next on my hit list is brioche!

  • 279. Brenda | April 8th, 2010 at 2:34 pm | #

  • 283. Lauren | April 9th, 2010 at 9:59 am | #

I’m in love with the polka dots on the Joesphine set.
As the weather is getting so cool in the evenings, i would bake a roast vegetable pie for dinner. Filo pastry, roast sweet potato, chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, some spices, preserved lemon, fetta cheese, and i would top it with fresh coriander as i serve it! Clearly a glass of pinot noir would be accompanying this dish!

  • 284. CE | April 9th, 2010 at 2:32 pm | #

I love the Doris Pink. I’d bake a sour cherry cake which my aunt recently got the recipe for from NQN site & made for us while we were visiting Melbourne (my husband loved the cake & wants me to make it). I just was searching for the recipe on your site but now I need to subscribe for daily updates – it’s such a fantastic website!!

  • 285. Jo | April 9th, 2010 at 3:51 pm | #

Hi NQN, I would love to recieve such a wonderful giveaway, my choice will be the Josephine.

With such a beautiful apron to wear on my baking days, those days will now certainly be more frequent. My first bake with them will be a baked marble cheesecake.

Set #2…and because I was at Max Brenner the other day and tried babka for the first time (delicious!) I would like to make a cinnamon babka!

  • 288. Tina bangel | April 10th, 2010 at 12:18 am | #

I love the polka dotted set…I would cook my belated birthday Chocolate mud cake using all the Easter Chocolate eggs the family and I cannot possibly consume:D

  • 289. Pam | April 10th, 2010 at 9:25 am | #

Oh definitely the tres chic polka dots! I’d be cooking a batch of chocloate mousse cupcakes. Yum! Thanks for the giveaway. Just lovely. :)

  • 294. Robyn Abela | April 10th, 2010 at 4:38 pm | #

I would love to win the modern pink set. When wearing this I would feel like Bree from DHs and would bake muffins to share with the neighbours. Just gorgeous.

  • 301. Ruth | April 13th, 2010 at 10:35 am | #

This is such a popular competition, the aprons etc are gorgeous!
I love the red and white dots, the apron has a french feel to it, I think. So the dish I would make would be Boeuf Bourguignon (Julia Childs) receipe and your famous Valentines chocolate rasberry truffle cake with truffles!

  • 302. Margs | April 13th, 2010 at 5:12 pm | #

I would remake NQN’s “Yoghurt Passionfruit Syrup Cake” wearing the #1 set, as today when mixing the sugar and the (not so room temp) butter, wearing an apron would of saved my clothes from getting so sweet.

  • 303. Wei | April 15th, 2010 at 8:13 pm | #

Jessie Steele set- i will wear it (even though I am a bloke) to bake a nice yummy green tea fruit cake for my girlfriend for her birthday. It’s her favourite cake!

  • 304. Cherz | April 15th, 2010 at 8:26 pm | #

Hi Lorraine & all…I love Josephine love the cherry red colour. I would bake cherry pie.
Just think if I won I would be the apple of everyone’s eye…me my apron and my cherry pie.
    Luv bye.

  • 305. Carlos | April 16th, 2010 at 12:04 am | #

The Josephine would be perfect to wear as you make the Sunken Sour Cherry Cake that first brought me to discover this site.

But then again, what would be more perfect than a frangipani pie to go with the Doris?

    Tough call.

  • 306. Jaleesa | April 16th, 2010 at 1:27 am | #

i’ll choose the josephine set and will be baking a choc marble mudcake for my birthday this month :) it would be nice to get this as a lovely gift. i’m sure i’ll be using them all the time as i bake a lot for my family and friends. can’t wait to get them if my name get chosen :)

  • 309. MM | April 16th, 2010 at 12:54 pm | #

I absolutely love the Josephine set. I think it begs the wearer to make a summer fruit flan which I must do if I win it!

  • 313. KirstyS | April 17th, 2010 at 8:09 am | #

The Doris set takes my fancy today. I think I’d team it with a classic… the Magnolia Bakery cupcakes with those lucsious swirls of icing in a pale pink.

  • 314. Lauren | April 17th, 2010 at 11:33 am | #

I love the stunning red Josephine set. Complete with polkadots and a ribbon, it mirrors the style I like to wear outside of the kitchen too :)
Wearing such an amazing apron, I would have to cook some red-velvet cupcakes and top them with some red, white and pink fondant to keep in theme with the apron set :) I generally tend to let any new cooking equipment and paraphernalia determine what I cook, it’s more fun and spontaneous that way!

  • 315. Kavitha | April 17th, 2010 at 4:10 pm | #

I love the Doris Pink set. I will bake cupcakes for my kids.

  • 316. Karen | April 17th, 2010 at 10:04 pm | #

  • 318. Sue | April 18th, 2010 at 7:08 am | #

Set #1: it’s bright and energizing. I’d start a large pot of tomato sauce and some gazpacho to eat while the sauce simmers

  • 319. Meret | April 18th, 2010 at 10:11 am | #

Ooooooh the Jospehine set – to be worn whilst baking old school cherry pie, Yes Mam!

  • 320. Wendy | April 18th, 2010 at 10:23 am | #

Ooo, I love set 1, and I’d bake ginger Brulee tarts from the Bourke St Bakery cookbook.

  • 321. Lynette | April 18th, 2010 at 2:26 pm | #

I love the second set. I wouldn’t make anything special, just my normal cooking of the nightly meal for my family and cooked with much love every night for them. Gives me great pleasure to watch them enjoying what i have cooked be it spaghetti bolognaise, roast dinner or veal scallopini etc.

  • 322. sonia cattley | April 18th, 2010 at 4:06 pm | #
