Win a $150 Gift Voucher From Vinyl Design!

Ever since we bought our first apartment, I’ve been a tad obsessed with decorating it. Suddenly I was taking pleasure in looking for lighting fixtures whereas it was formerly bags and hats. And even though we moved in almost a year ago, it feels like mere months and some walls remained conspicuously bare. So when Julia a long time reader of NQN from Vinyl Design contacted me asking if I would like to do a giveaway I was delighted.

She designed me this gorgeous wall decal with my logo and some images of things that are near and dear to me. Apart from custom designs for businesses  or parties there are also designs that are already created. I am hoping that she does a Halloween one too! ;)

So do you want a chance to win a decal for yourself? Thanks to Julia at Vinyl Design I am giving away a $150 voucher to spend at their store. All you have to do is tell me your favourite design from the current ones and why! Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. The competition ends at Midnight AEST 3rd of October, 2010. You can enter this once daily. This competition is open to people in Australian only.

***The winner is: Sarah W.!”***

Best of luck!

Love,

Lorraine

What a cute giveaway. My favourite design is the MS Pacman. When so cleverly placed on the corner of the sofa, it makes such an interesting picture. Not to mention that it brings me back to my childhood!

  • 2. Maria @ Scandifoodie | September 4th, 2010 at 5:37 am | #

I love your custom wall design, Lorraine! My favourite would be one of the Japanese designs, and I can’t quite decide between the lanterns and the cherry blossom branch! I do love a bit of colour though and for some reason the lanterns remind me of festive times! :-)

  • 3. Trissa | September 4th, 2010 at 5:48 am | #

Very cute! Love what they’ve done for your wall. It’s probably the cutest one for me.

  • 4. Kristy | September 4th, 2010 at 6:39 am | #

The growing leaves design is one of my favourites, it’s simple but effective and would be perfect for my studio.
I’m always looking to remind myself to grow and learn and reach for the sky – just like plants strive to do.

  • 5. KirstyS | September 4th, 2010 at 6:46 am | #

The cherry blossom branch. :) I’ve been making a lot of changes and since spring is a time of growth it just seems like a fitting reminder.

  • 6. Wendy | September 4th, 2010 at 7:38 am | #

Great designs all! It was so hard to pick just one, but I’d have to say my favourite is the five birds on a wire – it made me grin just looking at it.

  • 7. penny aka jeroxie | September 4th, 2010 at 9:00 am | #

It’s so hard to pick just one but I will go with the pacman. I have a very bare wall from dining to the kitchen. It needs a LIFT! And likewise, we have just renovated our place and walls are very bare. So want to WIN this!

Things i’ve learned from reading blogs! Who knows such creative and easy decor services are available without the painful stenciling and backaches?!!!

I know i’m being greedy..but i absolutely love the cherry blossom branch & the Elephants Trail decals!

The cherry blossom branch reminds me of how life, like nature is constantly renewed every season.

And why the elephants? I spent a few days @ an Elephant farm in Chiangmai, Thailand with rescued elephants who were abused and enslaved. Those giant animals were so endearing, and oh-so-protective of their loved ones and family. Hence, it’s symbolic of what a home shld be, a safe place for my family & loved ones.

The Cherry Blossoms Wall Decal is my favorite. It is a fresh & fun reminder that at long last Spring has arrived. It would be so beautiful in my daughter’s room.

What a fabulous idea, I love it. I have just bought my first tiny little house and am in the decorating mood. Being part Japanese, I love the samuri and the geisha but I have a soft soft of Audrey Hepburn, beautiful. Thank you for sharing vinyl design with us!

  • 12. Fiona | September 4th, 2010 at 9:24 am | #

I think it would have to be the shoes … that would be brilliant along the wall in the bedroom – that way I could still indulge in my addiction without adding the clutter!

Space Invaders, Space Invaders!! I remember when it first came out, and I used to beat my husband at it….no wonder he left! The other designs are fabbo, but most of them are too grown up for me.

I think my absolute favourite was the sausage dogs, they are pure whimsy and made me laugh.
Life needs to have bits of whimsy popping up unexpectedly to remind us not to take things to seriously, and that it’s not that bad after all.

    Dear Lorraine,

The Sunflower Wall Decal from Nature Designs caught my eye. I adore the simplicity and lovely sun like petals that are filled with so much brightness and meaning. It’ll provide my daily inspiration to wake up early every morning to do the things I’m very passionate about, like heading to the beach for a full morning workout… before footprints fill the shores, visiting the morning market to buy fresh Australian produce from the farms, stopping by at the nearby café for a nice morning cuppa, not to mention returning home to check out the fresh delicious updates and lovely competitions from NQN. :-)

The following quote from Calendar Girls sums up my appreciation of sunflowers:
“There’s nothing on this planet that more trumpets life than the sunflower. Not because it looks like the sun but because it follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the journey of the sun across the sky. A satellite dish for sunshine. Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that’s such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life.”

    Always seize the day!

    Cheers,
    Jessie

I really liked the musical note wall stickers categorized under “Elegance Designs”. My apartment has a piano and sticking some musical notes above the piano will surely keep my sister happy as she is aiming to become a pianist. :) By placing them above the piano in an upwards manner, it will look as if the music she is playing will reach the heavens.

  • 24. AmyCCC | September 4th, 2010 at 10:38 am | #

Oh I love your design Lorraine- it is perfect! I just had a look at the vinyl design store and all of it is so adorable right down to the me geek laptop sticker! ha. But as I am obsessed with everything NYC I absolutely love the urban skyline decal-I’d put it near my desk to remind me of my goal.
ps: I also really lovely the retro clock in the Audrey pic, fab!

  • 25. Miki Brotzler | September 4th, 2010 at 10:44 am | #

Wow what a fantastic idea! And the designs are great. I think even my husband will like the retro ones. They’ll go well on my Mondriaan colour scheme of my kitchen!

  • 26. Ja | September 4th, 2010 at 11:13 am | #

  • 27. Steph@LittlePotBelly | September 4th, 2010 at 11:15 am | #

Their Retro Squares design adds a very contemporary touch to a modern house. It’s gender neutral and timeless, and can definitely add a splash of colour to a plain white wall. I love it!

  • 28. cathy | September 4th, 2010 at 11:51 am | #

I love them all, but with children growing up it is time to use more mature wall art to decorate their rooms.. The girls adore all the Penguins..would look great on the walls of their room.

    Cheers Cathy

  • 32. Honey @ honeyandsoy | September 4th, 2010 at 12:22 pm | #

Hmm, If I were honest, I’d say that your custom decal is my fave cos I love the teapot, teaspoons and the cupcakes, so this may not qualify as an entry! :) Plus, the idea that you have your very own unique decal means so much, using the things that are important to you, as you mentioned. Especially when it’s something you’re really proud of, like NQN, it’s really nice to see it on your wall, like a mini tribute and daily reminder of what’s important in your life. From the store, I think the peony catches my eye cos I am girly like that! ;)

  • 33. Vicky | September 4th, 2010 at 1:09 pm | #

It would have to be Audrey, what an amazing women she was. I used that exact photo for my 40th Birthday Invitation “with the phrase” Frock Up I’m 40. I would have it on the wall over my desk to remind me how fab it is to be a 40 (now something year old)woman!

  • 41. Marlo | September 4th, 2010 at 5:50 pm | #

    Your custom design is lovely!

I’ll be passing this onto a few friends who have been looking for these, she has quite the extensive collection.

Nice to see they’re Australian made, too.
I’ve heard of some people receiving ones they bought online (from other companies) that were made in China and wouldn’t stick or had really tacky glue which bubbled etc.

I really love the shoes. I love the idea of having the shoe decals around near the floor- might take away from the mess that’s always on my floor…oops.

I wish there was a poodle decal. That would be my ultimate favourite!

  • 42. Sarah | September 4th, 2010 at 6:11 pm | #

YAY thanks for the inspiration NQN!

Forget expensive and overpriced paintings. The Cherry Blossom branch in red would look ideal in my new lounge room.

  • 86. DD | September 7th, 2010 at 3:47 pm | #

Helicopter – it’d be constant fuel for my fascination with them, inspiring me to keep saving my pennies so I can go up for a flight one day.

  • 87. DD | September 7th, 2010 at 3:49 pm | #

I’m torn between Maple Branch & Cherry Blossom branch. Both would look equally as good on my very naked & plain bathroom wall.

  • 88. Wendy | September 7th, 2010 at 6:07 pm | #

I can’t go past the Audrey wall design – frankly she would be the perfect guest (silent and always dessed for dinner) and look fab over my stainless steel desk slash dining table…

  • 91. Stefania | September 7th, 2010 at 10:24 pm | #

OMG how do we decide there are so many beautiful designs…but I will have to go with the Cherry Blossom – my favourite tree – as well as being obsessed with cooking/baking I too adore home decor and am constantly adding items to our home and one of the essentials is plants & flowers – this decal could save me on the weeks were I didn’t buy flowers the wall would be pretty anyway!!

  • 92. Phunk | September 7th, 2010 at 10:58 pm | #

Today i’m loving the lollipop flowers, I imagine waking up every day & seeing them would mean you’d have to start your day with a smile :)

  • 93. Cath | September 8th, 2010 at 9:51 am | #

My partner and son keep hinting at getting a dog, but I’m not so keen. That said I would very happily live with the ‘Sausage Dog Wall Decal’ – but would they be fooled and if so for how long?

  • 94. rhiannon | September 8th, 2010 at 10:38 am | #

I love all the retro designs, but especially the falling blocks – they remind me of my brother on his game boy back in the day. His room in his bachelor pad definitely needs some redecorating so they would come in handy!

  • 95. jetlagmama | September 8th, 2010 at 1:40 pm | #

If I was choosing for my son I would choose those fab rockets to brighten up his new but dull room (no mural). For me I would choose the two fatty birds who are strangely appealing and make even plastic light switches look good (and that’s not easy). Fab website thanks for passing on the details.

  • 96. Elise | September 8th, 2010 at 4:00 pm | #

Oh wow, your custom NQN design is gorgeous! I would definitely go the mirror frame and then hang a mirror inside it to add a quirky touch to my hallway.

Absolutely love the sausage dogs! But if I was decorating my home I’d probably go for something more along the lines of the cherry blossom branch.

  • 100. Caz | September 9th, 2010 at 1:31 pm | #

ooh! I am obsessed with searching the wall decals on Etsy but have yet to buy one. Perhaps because my house is falling apart and decals would just draw attention to my cracked walls?

My fav from Vinyl Designs is the cherry blossoms branch of course!

  • 101. Super Sarah | September 9th, 2010 at 8:19 pm | #

I am determined to redo my bedroom and the cherry blossom would help me make a decision on my decor.

  • 102. Super Sarah | September 10th, 2010 at 9:46 am | #

I have been looking at the other designs in the nature range and think the maple branch might work in the bedroom too!

  • 103. Cath | September 10th, 2010 at 8:54 pm | #

haha cant help but browse through the site again. the sausage dogs are cut, but cherry blossoms are so elegant!

    Hi Lorraine,

Vinyl Design’s decorative wall decals are such a brilliant concept. I’ve never seen anything so beautiful and innovative. It’s like a wall tattoo, so personal, intimate and very sensual, a perfect escapism! My personal favorite has got to be the Urban Decals, especially the Eiffel Tower and Air Balloon designs. They remind me of my honeymoon in Paris back in the 70s when life was so idealistic, simple, pure and beautiful. There were the best days of my life, a total bliss… right until my children came along one after another ;-) . I’d love to have the designs adorn my walls as they would provide a very personal and priceless memento of the days that mean so dear to me, the perfect inspiration and food for thought for Spring!

    Best wishes,
    Cynthia

I have been thinking about other places in my home that I could use a wall design and I think the japanese lanterns would look brilliant in my kitchen, bizarrely. I have a floating shelf which is slightly too high on the wall so has a large space undernearth, lanterns would look very unusual there!

  • 106. Super Sarah | September 12th, 2010 at 10:46 am | #

Back to the kitchen design, we have a long wall which our table sits against, I think it would be hilarious to have a row of penguins lined up underneath!

  • 107. Fifi | September 12th, 2010 at 2:11 pm | #

I totally understand your decorating fetish, Lorraine! It is soooo important for one’s home to be inspiring you, even when you’re relaxing or just pottering around your house, because that’s when your brightest, life changing ideas come. I am hoping one day to design bespoke shoes, so the shoe motif will get my creative juices running!

    great giveaway♥
I think the Five birds on a wire design is so cute!, they would look great perched up in my living room!

Five Birds on Wire Wall Decal.
I work for an animal welfare organisation that desperately needs some cheerful birds to decorate its bland walls.

I am back to decorating the bedroom with the cherry blossom design.

The Elegance designs are very much to my taste. In particular the Musical Notes would be quite fitting almost anywhere in our home, as we all play an instrument and our lives are not complete without music. The wall decals are indeed gorgeous and I’m so happy to have discovered them!

  • 114. Super Sarah | September 15th, 2010 at 12:21 pm | #

The growing leaves would work in my kitchen, growing up from under my table! At least it would be one plant that I can’t kill!!!

  • 115. Super Sarah | September 16th, 2010 at 1:28 pm | #

I think if I am going to decorate the kitchen it needs to be humorous so I am going to go for the sausage dogs, super cute and funny too… also, don’t need to feed them or clean up after them!

  • 116. Melissa | September 16th, 2010 at 7:03 pm | #

I think the growing leaves decal would look great in my living room – very stylish!

I love the cherry blossom branch. It’s the closest thing to growing one and it is guaranteed to last!

  • 119. Super Sarah | September 19th, 2010 at 5:36 pm | #

I am fixated on the cherry blossom branch for my bedroom makeover. I think it will tie in perfectly with my slightly unusual theme of travel. Sadly I have yet to visit Japan to see the beautiful cherry trees in bloom, one day maybe.

  • 120. Super Sarah | September 20th, 2010 at 7:24 pm | #

Or maybe the japanese lanterns? Or would they look silly in my bedroom? Hmmm.

  • 121. Cath | September 21st, 2010 at 7:20 pm | #

The Penguins are cute, the Two Fatty Birds are a must to hang around the house, but Audrey can sit with me any day she wants at the Office.

haha. the Two Fatty birds are cute too, would get them just for the name.

Cherry Blossom branch is decided. I am investigating wallpapering my built-in wardrobe doors in a deep red and throwing some red cushions and a red throw on the bed. Lovely.

I love the Audrey Hepburn decal. Breakfast at Tiffany’s was my Mum’s favourite movie and it was a ritual of ours to watch it together before she passed away earlier this year.

Cherry Blossom Branch all the way.

This will probably be my last comment on this competition. I have really enjoyed thinking about decorating, its not something I have done in ages and now I feel full of inspiration! I am going to start on my redesign of my bedroom and will be using the Cherry Blossom Branch as my central inspiration!
