Win A Range Of Bitton Gourmet Foods & Cookbook!

Hello lovelies! We’ve come to our final competition for the Twelve Days of Christmas Giveaways (which ended up being thirteen giveaways) and it’s a doozy! Our last competition features a huge thirteen products from the Bitton Gourmet range plus their new cookbook!

I first encountered Bitton Gourmet when we looking for places to brunch with my friend Gina. We had lunch there and fell in love with the poached eggs served with Black Forest ham, spinach, potato roesti and Hollandaise sauce. So much so that we scheduled another brunch there shortly afterwards to enlighten third friend Teena as to this deliciousness.

What do you think this is? Two cappuccinos? No, it’s mushroom and vanilla cappuccino soup!

To celebrate the release of the new cookbook and their range, Bitton Gourmet are giving away a copy of the cookbook (and yes there’s a version of the above dish with smoked salmon in the cookbook) and thirteen products to one lucky Not Quite Nigella reader! The products are:

David Bitton Cafe Cookbook

Asian dressing

Rosemary, thyme and vanilla oil (how fabulous does this sound?)

Lemon dressing

Chilli Oil

Bitton Dressing

Moroccan Spice

Chilli garlic masala

Strawberry and vanilla jam

Orange jelly

Monkey nut chutney

Coriander pesto

Mango and ginger nut jam

Black Olive Tapenade

All worth $170!

My favourite products (hehe how fun is it taste testing these?) were the Bitton thick and creamy dressing flavoured with garlic, the spicy hot chilli garlic masala, the monkey nut chutney (who could resist that name too?) and the jams!

For a chance to win this treasure trove of gourmet goodies all you have to do is tell me which product from the above tickles your fancy and why! Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. The competition ends at Midnight AEST 29th January, 2011. You can enter this  competition once daily. Delivery is within Australia only.

***The winner is: Korik L. of Vic!***

Best of luck!

Lots of love,

Lorraine

They all sound good but the strawberry and vanilla sounds pretty good to me maybe because it’s breakfast time and it sounds good right now on some toast.

    The Monkey Nut Chutney!
My husband loves Monkeygland sauce (a Steers concoction from South Africa) and he loves chutney. The thought of there being a Monkey something chutney tickles me!

  • 6. Tracy | December 19th, 2010 at 8:39 am | #

I won’t join the contest because sadly I can’t. I don’t live in Australia, but reading NQN makes me want to move ASAP!

  • 7. KirstyS | December 19th, 2010 at 8:59 am | #

Monkey nut chutney! My standard reply to “What’s for dinner?” is “Elephants.” Being able to say “Monkey nuts” and tell the truth would be great fun.

  • 8. Mary Preston | December 19th, 2010 at 9:13 am | #

Monkey Nut Chutney caused an irrational bout of laughter on our end. To stop the foolishness this would be my first pick.

  • 9. little miss food | December 19th, 2010 at 9:16 am | #

Moroccan food is my new favourite so I’ll have to say the Moroccan Spice! I love that it can be used to spice up a salad dressing or give an intense flavour to a marinade – product versatility is very important in my kitchen!!

Speaking of Moroccan, you should try the Moroccan Soup Bar (North Fitzroy) next time you are in Melbourne – absolutely DELICIOUS.

Thanks for the great comp Lorraine.

Monkey Nut Chutney. Although I have no idea what this is, life is about trying new things and some of this on a steak sandwich might just become my newest addiction

  • 12. bettythrelfo | December 19th, 2010 at 9:28 am | #

Mango and ginger nut jam. How could I go past such a wonderful fruit, loving both mangoes, ginger and nuts like I do. Am I the only one to eat the skin of mangoes, family think I”m crazy, but why waste so much goodness. I nearly always need something under my chin to absorb the bits that run down… Love it.

  • 13. bettythrelfo | December 19th, 2010 at 9:31 am | #

I”ve just made the no knead bread, so wonderfully warm bread with mango and ginger nut jam for breakfast, sure is “my cup of tea” as they say.

  • 14. Linda | December 19th, 2010 at 9:33 am | #

Okay. The sight of that quail has set my tummy to growl.

    for Australians? But, I’m with
    Keppers about Monkey Nut Chutney.

Absolutely HATE to be unoriginal, but MONKEY NUT CHUTNEY has to take premier place – I love to try new and unorthodox items and this just has to take the cake. Of course, Bitton Dressing would be fascinating to taste too – with this kind of talent shown, It would surely taste fantabulous! (perhaps I have created a word?)

Thanks for another great giveaway Lorraine I have my fingers and toes crossed!

  • 51. KylieD | December 19th, 2010 at 2:48 pm | #

Monkey Nut Chutney is my pick. Monkey Nuts is what Mum and her siblings call Pine Nuts so it makes me think lovely warm family thoughts. (Perfect for this time of year with a massive invasion of relatives about to engulf and overwhelm!)

  • 52. Hannah | December 19th, 2010 at 3:03 pm | #

I am such a sucker for condiments :)

Definitely want the Monkey Nut Chutney the most, and purely because of the name ;)

  • 53. Margaret Bird | December 19th, 2010 at 3:06 pm | #

The mango and ginger nut jam tickles my fancy. Initially I thought mango and ginger – what a lovely combination but I am puzzled as to what ginger nut may mean when presented in the form of jam.

  • 54. MaidInAustralia | December 19th, 2010 at 3:10 pm | #

I think the cookbook, because without this gourmet bible, I wouldn’t be able to bring out the best of the products. What a yummy Christmas it would be!

  • 55. Tracey | December 19th, 2010 at 3:18 pm | #

The chilli garlic masala – you can never have too many chilli sauces in the house!

  • 57. Mary | December 19th, 2010 at 3:24 pm | #

I would love to try the strawberry and vanilla jam. I tried to make something similar just last week and the pot is still soaking, trying to get the burned jam off the bottom. I would love to know how much of the vanilla flavour comes through.

  • 58. Sharyn | December 19th, 2010 at 3:27 pm | #

My little monkey and I would go absolutely nuts over the Monkey Nut Chutney!

  • 60. angela | December 19th, 2010 at 3:33 pm | #

its a hard choice but I’d choose the Strawberry and vanilla jam, mainly because I adore that wonderful flavour of strawberry and added to that my favourite of vanilla….. i can imagine it on warm homemade scones with clotted cream…. in a sponge roll, on toast, and well, i admit it, straight of the jar on a spoon!…. wouldn’t everyone love that?

  • 61. joey | December 19th, 2010 at 3:42 pm | #

Strawberry and vanilla jam ‘oh my’,
Spread it on a scone or toast, its flavour I cannot deny,
Fills my home with a pleasant aroma,
No required trip to a Pasticceria in Roma.

  • 62. Cakelaw | December 19th, 2010 at 3:44 pm | #

Oh, the mango and ginger nut jam definitely tickles my fancy – I love the Asian/tropical flavours of mango and ginger, and together, they would be sublime.

The chilli oil…I need to spice up my life!

  • 64. Jacqui Lagaluga | December 19th, 2010 at 4:19 pm | #

The Mango and Ginger Nut Jam is the one that tickles me,
Sweet as well as zesty and versatile I see.
I’d try experimenting with using it in a number of ways,
As a condiment ,a filling for tarts or perhaps a succulent ham glaze!

  • 65. Michelle | December 19th, 2010 at 4:24 pm | #

Yum they all sound delicious – but I would have to say I am a bit of a vanilla fiend so the Strawberry and vanilla jam definitely takes the cake. But then again….. I am a savoury tooth and the Black Olive Tapenade would be fabulous with a cheese platter over the Xmas break. Very hard to choose a favourite yes to them all thanks Lorraine.

  • 66. rhiannon | December 19th, 2010 at 4:26 pm | #

I will say the Coriander pesto because I am a pesto nut (get it – haha!) and i haven’t yet tried a coriander one.

  • 67. Wendy @ Obesebaby | December 19th, 2010 at 4:58 pm | #

The Mango and Ginger Nut Jam sounds interesting, instead of doing a Indian mango chicken, how abt a Mango and ginger Nut roast chicken?

  • 68. Holly | December 19th, 2010 at 5:16 pm | #

Has to be the monkey nut chutney- could have such a laugh with my husband with that one!

  • 69. jl | December 19th, 2010 at 5:18 pm | #

Everything! But esp the moroccan spice…great with chicken…bbq or oven yum

  • 70. nelleke | December 19th, 2010 at 5:19 pm | #

it would have to be the strawberry and vanilla jam. Have been making heaps of jam here in the far south coast but not thought to add vanilla to the strawberry batch. Yum on homemade sour cream scones.

  • 71. Lyn | December 19th, 2010 at 5:25 pm | #

Going through both lemon and olive ‘moments’ right now, so the lemon dressing and the black olive tapenade sound marvellous.

Moroccan Spice … rub it on some atlantic salmon and throw it on the BBQ with glass of wine….summer!!!

  • 79. Rach | December 19th, 2010 at 7:10 pm | #

Whilst they all sound fabulous, I’m thinking the Orange Jelly would be something to try. I’m *assuming* it’s going to be similar texture to jam as it’s in a jar, and my mind is going a bit [monkey]nuts thinking of choc chip scones with orange jelly, or vanilla scones with orange jelly and chocolate cream, or possibly a trifle incorporating chocolate sponge and orange jelly (and other goodies), or choc jam drops with an orange jelly centre…oh my mind is racing with possibilities!

  • 80. GourmetGetaways | December 19th, 2010 at 7:53 pm | #

My favourite sounding spice mix one would be the Chili Garlic Marsala. I could imagine a million things to do with this.

I would love the recipe book for the smoked salmon dish, YUMMY!

  • 81. Mel Marshan | December 19th, 2010 at 8:05 pm | #

One of my saddest moments was moving away from Erskineville from where I was walking distance to Bitton, and I enjoyed many great times with amazing meals and fabulous friends. I love everything in the Bitton range, but what I really can’t survive without having in the cupboard is the chilli oil. It sounds simple, but it is totally amazing.

  • 92. MissJane | December 19th, 2010 at 11:42 pm | #

The chili and garlic masala would be a hit in my home. I could use it in just about every savory dish I create. All the jars sound very scrummy. Jane

    Orange jelly,

It snows like hell in Paris today !!pierre

  • 95. Kylie | December 20th, 2010 at 1:54 am | #

Probably the bitton dressing – is it the name? The thick creamy description? The fact that it’s different to everything we have and change is great!!!

  • 96. catty | December 20th, 2010 at 2:25 am | #

Again, I can’t enter this but that mushroom and cappuccino soup sounds amazing!

  • 97. Akika | December 20th, 2010 at 2:50 am | #

I must admit I’ve never tried the Bitton range so with that said, I’m the most intrigued with the “Bitton dressing”. Reason being I’m more or less able to imagine what the other flavours would taste like but not this one! I’d think it tastes French but is suitably fitting of the Bitton range….nope that doesn’t really help me lol…the only way to find out is actually tasting it myself :)

  • 98. deeba | December 20th, 2010 at 2:53 am | #

The Monkey Nut Chutney got my attention alright, as did the mushroom vanilla cappuccino soup! WOW… but Rosemary, Thyme & Vanilla Oil makes my heart sing. Reminds me of a S & G song …Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme. What a GREAT range of products. Just shows how interesting the books going to be.

  • 99. deana | December 20th, 2010 at 5:58 am | #

You do make me wish I lived in Australia every time you issue these wonderful giveaways… I do love the idea of the quail recipe… how can you not fall for anything flamed???

  • 102. Barbara Weber | December 20th, 2010 at 7:54 am | #

Wow, what amazing products. Strawberry and vanilla jam sounds great to me, but intrigued about the monkeynut chutney as I remember monkeynuts from my childhood

  • 103. buggy | December 20th, 2010 at 8:16 am | #

i would have to say the coriander pesto, because the one and only time my fiance cooked for me he made coriander pesto! and it was very nice indeed

mango and ginger nut jam….for making some wonderful trifle me thinks – layers of jam, fresh mangos, mascapone custard, sponge fingers soaked in ginger wine, ginger nut crumbs toasted in butter, lashing of cream and finished with ligtly toasted almond flakes. Yum!

Thanks to You Lorraine I discovered the Bitton Cafe as well we spent mothers day with our families there in 2010. It was one of the first blogs I ever read of yours and now I have discovered so many great foodie destinations and recipes due to you. When we visited there I bought the monkey nut chutney and the Moroccan Spice and both have become staples in the cupboard… Love all their products but favourite is the Moroccan Spice makes wicked Tagine’s and great rubs for the BBQ.
Merry Xmas Lorraine and thanks for all your great give aways.

    Love Rozzie Kaye

  • 119. helen | December 20th, 2010 at 11:05 am | #

I love the sound of the chilli oil. I have tried making it a couple of times and it never works out right… Either too hot or tastes just like oil!

  • 120. Clare | December 20th, 2010 at 11:21 am | #

The black olive tapenade. I had a delicious sandwich last week with rocket, felafel and tapenade. Not a combo I’d ever think of myself but it was so good!

The strawberry and Vanilla Jam is amazing on fresh pikelets and scones, it’s the right combination of sweet and fruity.

I just can’t help myself whenever I come across an olive tapenade – I have to try it! Ever since the wonderful Darling Mills Farm stopped selling theirs at farmers markets I have been trying to find one as good. Given the obvious appreciation for quality ingredients, Bitton’s black olive tapenade is a must taste for me!

  • 145. Lisette | December 21st, 2010 at 1:46 pm | #

I agree with the comments – how can one go past the entertainment value of saying “monkey nut chutney”? I would love to score the chilli oil though – I’d be drizzling them over pastas and salads over summer (perhaps an interesting kick to have with mushroom cappuccino too!)

  • 146. Julia | December 21st, 2010 at 2:56 pm | #

It so has to be the Black Olive Tapenade for me…..I have the hugest foodie-crush on olives at the moment and I want them in everything. This would be so delectable!

  • 147. Andrea | December 21st, 2010 at 3:42 pm | #

The Mango & Ginger Nut Jam!

I love jams, especially jams that aren’t your usual berry varieties. I love to cook preserves, but my current kitchen doesn’t have the storage room for lots of bottles of conserves.

Also, I love mango, I love ginger, so what’s there not to like! Would be amazing on fresh scones I think! Or crepes! :)

  • 148. lara | December 21st, 2010 at 4:07 pm | #

  • 176. Judith | December 29th, 2010 at 5:38 pm | #

I am not ordinarily a jam lover, I tend to prefer savoury foods. I’ve had this jam before though and it is amazing. Not like any jam you have ever tased… and my favourite way to eat it, on toasted good sourdough, with a really good blue… yeap you heard right, the mixture of sweet and vanilla and a good stinky blue cheese. AMAZING!

NQN my fancy HAS been tickled by the rosemary thyme and vanilla oil – it is so good for smashed potatoes! – and the moroccan Spice – brilliant as a marinade for just about everything. Now you have me thinking about the monkey nut chutney! DYING to try this. Though win, lose or draw (?) – thanks for the bitton reminder you’ve given with this post. Time for a visit!

    Masala’s too spicy,
    Chilli Oil’s too hot,
    Moroccan’s alright,
    Coriander Pesto is not.
    Lemon dressing’s too sour,
    Asian Dressing’s got bite,
    Black Olive’s not my taste,
but Monkey nut chutney’s more than just right!

There were once three beauties – Rosemary, Thyme and Vanilla. Rosemary, the pretty one dressed from head to toe in fragrance. Thyme, the serious one who takes great pride in her healing powers. Vanilla, the sociable one and the sweetest talker of the group. Together they competed against each other to win King Bitton’s fancy. The Evil Queen came in and tried to destroy their plan. She drew Rosemary in by promising her eternal beauty. Thyme fell into her trap with promise of eternal wisdom. Vanilla too fell under her sweet spells and lasting temptations. The three beauties were locked inside a well, unable to escape. ‘Help!’ they yelled from down under but nobody heard their pleas. Their tears soon filled up the well over one hundred years. Nobody knew what happened to the three beauties’ fate. They left behind a pool of rich dressings which later became known as Bitton’s Rosemary, Thyme and Vanilla oil!

Have fun with the story :-)
