Win 1 of 3 Ecofy Organic Seasonal Fruit & Vegetable Boxes!

Hands up who loves food deliveries! Hands up who loves deliveries of really fresh organic fruit and vegetables! Me too! Ecofy Organics (www.ecofy.com.au) is a business that specialises in fresh organic fruit and vegetables as well as other items like organic juice, baby products, groceries, cleaning products and even cottons and bedding!

ecofy organics

Now I know what you might say. Organic is expensive and looks like it fell off the back of a truck and was then run over. Not so. The produce I received looked exactly like conventional produce. I received a sample of the $31.50 box and it contained the following certified organic produce:

  • 1 x baby cos lettuce
  • 1 x bag of mushrooms
  • 1/2 pineapple
  • 1x bunch grapes
  • bunch of coriander
  • bunch of green beans
  • head of broccoli
  • 3 onions
  • 2 corn cobs
  • 4 potatoes
  • 4 bananas
  • 3 carrots
  • 2 zucchini
  • 3 yellow nectarines
  • 2 yellow peaches
  • 2 white nectarines
  • Plus some extras not usually included in the box but you can order separately including an additional Sonoma sourdough bread loaf, Organic India Tulsi Pomegranate Green tea and some live sunflower sprouts. I felt so Bree Van Der Kamp with these on my windowsill! I simply snipped them and popped them in salads.

ecofy organics

With Ecofy, you can specify which items that you want or not. Sometimes we want to cook with something specific or sometimes you just love to eat an item. Also as you may know, certain fruit and vegetables have higher pesticide rates than others (e.g. apples and potatoes are particularly high) and some people choose to just switch to buying those items as organic – with Ecofy you can just order what you need. The key is to have fresh, organic produce and no wastage.

ecofy organics

Their boxes, which are delivered on Thursdays, also contain at least 50% fruit whereas other companies pack more vegetables as they are inexpensive. Or if you dearly love fruit, you can order a fruit only box. The fruit I tried was superb-the nectarines that I had were sweet and juicy and I ended up eating all three of them on the first night as well as all of the grapes*. They also give new customers two stay fresh bags which help to preserve your produce longer (which can be washed and reused for up to 6 months). Again the less waste the better. The organic farmers work hard to grow their produce and the last thing you want is for it to be thrown out!

ecofy organics

Thanks to the lovely people at Ecofy, three lucky Not Quite Nigella readers will each win a seasonal organic fruit and vegetable box delivered to their door worth $52.50! For a chance to win this all you have to do is tell me what you like about shopping for organic food and what you dislike? Simply add your answer as a comment to the story. The competition ends at midnight AEST 20th March, 2011. This is open to people within Sydney as my reindeer aren’t fighting fit and can’t deliver outside the Sydney Metropolitan area.

***The winners are: Alix V.

First of all let me say I L.O.V.E Tulsi tea = delish and the concept of home delivered organic fruit & veg = brilliance!

My favourite way to shop for organic anything is at the Noosa Farmer’s markets each Sunday. I love the vibe, the chance to taste the wares, be introduced to new products but most importantly talk to the producers.

Great giveaway – my fingers are crossed!

    Felicity x

I am so happy you posted about this, Lorraine. :-) I hope to be living in Australia within the year and this is definitely something I’d be interested in. :-)

Oooh!! I DISLIKE shopping for organic food at regular supermakets – usually all pokey and pushed together in the back of the store. I LIKE shopping for organic food at farmers markets and independent stores… Makes me feel all healthy and warm inside ;) x

  • 4. Lx @ my mr lugs | February 19th, 2011 at 6:44 am | #

Wow… I love love love this giveaway!! The fruit and veg box looks amazing!
After watching a few docos about where our food comes from ie. Food Inc. (a real eye opener!!), we try to buy Organic where possible, but it can be a bit tough on a budget, but we do what we can as we figure every little bit helps :)

  • 5. Bubble and Sweet | February 19th, 2011 at 7:22 am | #

Would love to win this it looks great alas I am not in Sydney. But I do have my hand up on both counts.

  • 6. muppy | February 19th, 2011 at 7:31 am | #

Wow, I can’t believe you got all that for $31.50!
We have been shopping at organic markets because the fruit and vegetables taste so much better, and I love buying from the growers. But it costs us so much more and we have a decent drive closer to the city to find them. I’ll be looking in to this company…..
    Thanks :)

  • 7. Sarah White | February 19th, 2011 at 7:58 am | #

I like that the organic choices at my local grocer are not bagged so I can use my own and not only feel virtuous about what I am buying, but how I am buying it!

  • 8. Amber | February 19th, 2011 at 8:16 am | #

It’s good to know your making the best choices about taking care of the quality of foods going into your insides…but sometimes it’s difficult to justify the costs when your on a budget and you can sometimes buy non-organic for around half the price!

  • 9. Corrie | February 19th, 2011 at 8:24 am | #

What a scrummy selection. Organic food shopping means eating the best of the season which I love. Dislikes… hmm I’ll have to have a think about that, nothing coming to mind right now

  • 10. Evelyn | February 19th, 2011 at 8:50 am | #

I like to think by shopping for organic food, I am putting less of the ‘bad’ stuff into my children’s diet. Admittedly where I live the availability isn’t handy and that brings my dislike about shopping for organic food and also the price!!

  • 11. SJ | February 19th, 2011 at 9:11 am | #

Love the earthy, rawness of it all. Hate the pricetag!

  • 12. Ariel Marry | February 19th, 2011 at 9:18 am | #

I’m giving this a pass as I feel your reindeer needs all those extra veggies to fight fit so they can deliver all the way outside of Sydney. Thanks to your 12 days of Christmas prize (Victor Food Hamper), kindly delivered by your reindeer. There’s so much food I shared it with all my lovely neighbors across the street. They now know who Not Quite Nigella’s Lorraine is after I showed them the Cornetto ad. We are also thinking about forming a NQN Fan Club and share all the wonderful goodies every month :-)

  • 13. Jacky | February 19th, 2011 at 9:26 am | #

I sometimes think that Organic food looks dirty and smaller than the food in fruit and veg shops – which puts me off however when I taste them I love the taste. My favourite place to buy organic is at the Noosa Food Markets however given I live in Queensland it is a bit hard to shop their regularly. Would love the food delivered to my door

  • 14. cheryle | February 19th, 2011 at 9:33 am | #

I just love fresh and organic it is so very healthy and good for you and tastes so much better too.

  • 15. Cathy | February 19th, 2011 at 9:33 am | #

I love that the produce is pesticide free and tastes better. I dislike that when you buy it from stores they hike the prices up, which dissuades people from buying, so the produce you buy seems older when you do buy it.

  • 16. christine pavitt | February 19th, 2011 at 9:40 am | #

Thank you for allowing me to go into the competition. Sounds great.

  • 17. Mary Preston | February 19th, 2011 at 9:54 am | #

Poor reindeer!! Poor me. Not a Sydney-sider. It looks amazing.

  • 18. Alix. | February 19th, 2011 at 9:55 am | #

Q: What do I like about buying organic produce from the market stall?
A: Imagining that I’m getting back to nature.
    Q: What do I dislike?
A: Having to fight the crowds in the Fox Studios car park in order to get natural.

  • 19. Daniel | February 19th, 2011 at 10:00 am | #

What I love is the smugness I get from eating organic and smirking at the fat masses buying their long-term cold-storage plastic food from Woolies!
What I dislike is the hippies at the organic markets talling me that everything is bad for me – wheat, gluten, sugar, fat, dairy etc – pretty much all that is OK for them is water, as long as it’s organic spring water in recycled bottles!
    :)

  • 20. Paquita | February 19th, 2011 at 10:09 am | #

I love it when I actually do find some decent organic produce as it always has more flavour but frustrated that it’s harder to come by. Especially since I returned to work recently in the city near Chinatown so lots of fresh produce for yummy Asian meals but none that’s organic. Need to test out good delivery service now that I’m a working mum again so will give Ecofy a go!

  • 21. EHA | February 19th, 2011 at 10:11 am | #

Your reindeer would refuse to climb the hill and correctly claim I was JUST outside their travel limit! True!

I love anything organic – somehow feel safer eating the stuff. It tastes better and I feel all virtuous as far as our beloved planet is concerned! The negatives ARE the price and availability if you have limited transport. I am lucky living just outside the Greater Sydney Area, as we have a lot of weekend markets and gate sales and most on sale is supposedly organic. The uglier it looks, the better the flavour seems to be.

I’d love to come and pinch your organic sunflower sprouts – there’s hardly a savoury dish in this house without a hat of sprouts on it! Haven’t met those yet but do they look yum!

  • 22. JasmyneTea | February 19th, 2011 at 10:14 am | #

Wow, that looks so fresh and tasty. I guess I can’t really answer your question though, because I can’t remember a time when I ever had organic produce, which now makes me feel like I’m missing out! I’ve never seen it in Liverpool :s

  • 23. Louis | February 19th, 2011 at 10:23 am | #

My favourite thing about buying organic produce is that it the produce is so much more superior to non-organic produce – it is often tastier and juicier, and knowing that you aren’t putting god knows what into your body! It is also satisfying to know that you are paying for produce grown by hard-working farmers and supporting their cause for organic produce. The least satisfying is probably the price; and the fact that when you compare an organic food item to a non-organic one it is often a lot smaller! I know that this is what helps to make organic produce better quality but it is still disappointing as the food itself is so tasty that I always want more!

  • 24. cath | February 19th, 2011 at 10:52 am | #

    Oh Wow!
    What a fab competition!!

I love going to organic markets to get produce – I love to meet the farmers, look at what’s in season and try all the wonderful heirloom varieties. I’ve always been a market lover and this is more of a luxury experience for me.
I am fairly time poor so organic shopping is usually few and far between – the produce is usually of poor quality or super expensive.

This is a really good price for organic stuff! I am really impressed – I’ll have to check them out. Oh and Sonoma! Yum!!

The BEST part is knowing that my produce hasn’t been soaked in chemicals and this can only be a good thing for my body and the environment. The WORST part is sourcing organics. It’s getting easier but there are still a lot of organics that I find difficult to get hold of.

  • 26. GourmetGetaways | February 19th, 2011 at 11:07 am | #

I love knowing that the vegetables are free from pesticides and any other nasties. In Coffs Harbour however we don’t have a great range of organic produce so I guess the negative for me is a lack of choice.

  • 27. retiredfoodie | February 19th, 2011 at 11:13 am | #

Love the flavour and freshness – hate the increased price.

  • 28. Katy | February 19th, 2011 at 11:19 am | #

I like being able to buy natural foods that haven’t been treated with chemicals, I dislike the lack of range and availability.

  • 29. Mick | February 19th, 2011 at 11:39 am | #

Organic food brings out the Aussie Settler in me. I prefer food not attacked by pesticides and mutated to the poit of tastelessness. I shop at the markets where the atmosphere and products are great but hate it when seeing perfectly good organic products being bruised and damaged by shoppers with heavy hands testing the products for freshness and ripeness

  • 30. Liv | February 19th, 2011 at 11:57 am | #

Looks like a good selection of fruit & veg in your box.
I honestly have never shopped for organic food. So I don’t know if I can answer the question of what I like & dislike about it.
Good luck to everyone entering! :)

  • 31. EHA | February 19th, 2011 at 12:06 pm | #

Oh Mick – can’t we set up an ‘Aussie Settlers Club’? I SO agree with you! Specially the ‘mutation’ bit!

  • 32. angie | February 19th, 2011 at 12:10 pm | #

It’s the freshness of the produce and you get a chance to talk to the farmers and learn more about the food.

  • 33. Nomsie | February 19th, 2011 at 1:12 pm | #

OOooo How exciting! I’ve been looking for a good fruit and veg delivery. I recently tried Aussie Farmers Direct which is meant to be straight from the farms…but I highly doubt it was as half my cherries were mouldy or squishy and the chicken i ordered wasn’t fresh either…nothing worse than chicken that is starting to turn

I love shopping organic, the flavour of the fruit is always sooo amazing and worth the little bit extra! And with so many nasties on your veg, i feel so good knowing it’s nasty-free :) ahhh happy body :)
There are a few good organic shops around, but it’s never near where I do my grocery shopping so i have to make a special trip and sometimes you just don’t have the time! The only other thing i don’t like is the fact that you don’t always know what produce they’ll have or won’t have. So if you are looking for something specific for a recipe or the like, you aren’t guaranteed to get it :(
I’d love to try Ecofy tho! sounds like it’d solve those issues!

  • 34. paulette | February 19th, 2011 at 1:38 pm | #

I know that organic food is good for you

with wonderful flavours and that tastes great too

when i can afford i buy organic food

but sometimes i feel that the prices are too rude

but looking at the competetition you have got going

i truly believe your prices will have ecofy-organic sales a flowin

  • 35. Roxana | February 19th, 2011 at 2:19 pm | #

Oh wow! This looks fantastic! I eat like a rabbit, so this all looks so amazing! I’ve never used a food delivery service since I’ve never known who provides such services.
I also rarely purchase organic produce since it’s quite expensive and inaccessible. I guess these two points would fall under the “dislike” part. I have yet to find an organic fresh produce grocer in my area.
On the plus side, I love the idea of eating fresh fruit and vegetables that are crisp, juicy, sweet, fresh…produce that have retained their truly original flavour. Other produce just can’t match it!
It reminds me of the times I ate fresh fruit and vegetables as a child and teenager in rural Eastern Europe, where farming techniques are untouched by modern technology. Now THAT’S a memory I’m willing to relive! ;) :)

  • 36. phil | February 19th, 2011 at 2:19 pm | #

i get a good feeling knowing that i am looking at and buying food that is good for my family and is natural

  • 37. shell | February 19th, 2011 at 2:42 pm | #

Wow what a glamorous looking box!
I’m proud to say I’m an ecofy regular, the standards are amazing and it feels fantastic to eat in season fresh produce the way it should taste Give it a go you won’t be disappointed.

  • 38. Laura | February 19th, 2011 at 3:11 pm | #

I love shopping for organic food at farmers markets. I feel good knowing that I am feeding my family fresh, nutritious and pesticide free produce. I also love knowing exactly where it came from and supporting local growers. However, I dislike the quality and prices of the organic produce found at supermarkets. I can only find the time to get to markets occasionally. Having the best seasonal organic produce sourced for me would be wonderful!

  • 39. Carolyn Jung | February 19th, 2011 at 3:28 pm | #

What a great service. I love how they give you so many options, too, by letting you specify what you prefer. It makes everything so much more convenient.

  • 40. Keren | February 19th, 2011 at 4:39 pm | #

I love the smell of natural grown fruit and veges. They smell so delish I want to scoff them down
    right there on the spot.
I suppose what I don’t like is that it is not always available locally and the prices can sometimes be over our “budget”.

  • 41. Liz | February 19th, 2011 at 5:09 pm | #

I love home-delivered organics that let me introduce my city kids to varieties of apples beyond supermarket’red’ and ‘green’; I hate the sad little displays of plastic-wrapped organics in supermarkets – they look like the vegetable equivalents of factory-farmed animals, cooped up and badly treated. Set them free…

  • 42. emma | February 19th, 2011 at 5:23 pm | #

i’d never heard of them before! the produce looks great and i really struggle to find good fruit and veg these days (haha could be because the boy likes to shop at bi-lo… perhaps?) but since i’m about to fly the family coup i think this will be an option for us when we move out.

  • 43. Cakelaw | February 19th, 2011 at 5:37 pm | #

Sounds like a great idea. Alas I am outside Sydney.

  • 44. sandra | February 19th, 2011 at 6:18 pm | #

I love that the food tastes just the way it should- a strawberry tastes like a strawberry should not watery like mass produced non-organic berries.
What I dont like is that there isnt a very good range of organic items available in my neck of the woods

  • 45. michelle | February 19th, 2011 at 7:11 pm | #

love the look of this fruit & veg box ESP at the moment when so much of the fresh produce spoils so quickly. the taste of organic home grown is so much more flavorsome unfortunately the downside is the affordability of all items being organic in the weekly shop, sometimes have to be selective in the organic choice due to cost

  • 46. deeba | February 19th, 2011 at 7:43 pm | #

Both hands up, but nowhere to go! What a great giveaway Lorraine…

  • 47. Amanda | February 19th, 2011 at 8:20 pm | #

I love the freshness, and the fact that I generally know how far the produce has travelled (ideally not very far) to get to me. The part I dislike is that I have to remember to use it all quite quickly, as it seems to break down faster than non-organic produce. That and the fact that I always seem to get too many potatoes!

  • 48. MaidInAustralia | February 19th, 2011 at 8:33 pm | #

I think the only thing I dislike about organic produce is the price – in Australia, they always seem outrageously high – and that the selection is limited. I believe you can taste the difference though. Certainly my kids can … they wolf down organic fruit and veg, but rarely touch the other stuff. Good luck Sydneysiders!

  • 49. Hazel | February 19th, 2011 at 8:51 pm | #

That we are starting to see such choice and in meeting the grower you can get a real sense of passion for good produce.

  • 50. Judy | February 19th, 2011 at 9:53 pm | #

like the taste, dislike the price

  • 51. Hazel | February 19th, 2011 at 11:33 pm | #

Oooh, would totally love a box of organic goodness! What I love about organic is knowing that farming is going a little easier on the earth, keeping the birds and the bees happy, and providing sustainability for the future.

What I don’t love is that it’s more expensive and some things spoil faster, but fruit and veg never hangs around very long at our place anyway.

  • 52. shirley@kokken69 | February 19th, 2011 at 11:39 pm | #

I wouldn’t specify anything to include or exclude- just so that the delivery would carry with it an element of suprise – a touch of anticipation spices up life.

  • 53. Kathryn | February 19th, 2011 at 11:59 pm | #

I like the fact that you know it’s fresh and straight from the farm. I dislike that it spoils faster and it’s a bit more expensive – but you get what you pay for as it tastes so much better!

  • 54. Natalie Taylor | February 20th, 2011 at 3:10 am | #

Unfortunately I’m wayyyyyy out of the delivery area (Devon in the UK!), but this box looks wonderful. We have been getting organic fruit & veg deliveries for the past 4 1/2 years and I love it. You can’t get amazing stone fruit in the UK like you can in Australia – I miss peaches & nectarines from Oz :-(

  • 55. Jacqui Lagaluga | February 20th, 2011 at 7:52 am | #

I try to include organic produce in my weekly shopping.Sometimes this might include processed foods such as pasta and tomto paste as well as fruit and veges.Buying organic is satisfying as I know of the many health benefits to my family .The only thing frustrating about organic purchases is sourcing the food items you need!

  • 56. roberto colombi | February 20th, 2011 at 9:07 am | #

I love the natural taste of organic food but hate how much more expensive it is than other produce. It makes it tough to buy it as often as I would like

  • 57. Marie Pohnetalova | February 20th, 2011 at 9:08 am | #

I love the natural smell of the produce but I ‘ate’ just about everything!

  • 58. Annie | February 20th, 2011 at 9:10 am | #

Organic foods are great for the taste, people tell me that organic tomatoes are sweet and juicy and I have only tried the supermarket brands! They are also great for your health as they have greater levels of vitamins & nutrients and minus the chemicals and pesiticides! The only problem is since there is still not a high demand of them the prices are very expensive! But then again, your health is more important than money!

  • 59. Rachel | February 20th, 2011 at 12:20 pm | #

There is nothing better than fresh, organic vegetables. When you eat organic you can really taste the difference compared to the old, pesticide filled supermarket veggies. Give me fresh anyday!

  • 60. Vicky | February 20th, 2011 at 12:50 pm | #

We prefer the natural without nasties for us and our family, the products taste better and we’re doing our bit to save the world!

I think it’s so great these services are popping up and making organic food more accessible for everyone! There is just a feeling of doing something right when you buy organic food, you are supporting the right kind of movement and eating the right kinds of food. It gives you a very content, good-making feeling! There is NOTHING I dislike about buying organic food, not even the price tag, it is pricier simply because there isn’t enough (big) farmers doing it! Love this give-away Lorraine, this is excellent! x

  • 63. shaz | February 20th, 2011 at 4:03 pm | #

Hi, what a great tip. Thanks.
Love the taste of organic food and shopping at local markets. The only dislike that comes to mind at times is $ but all groceries are so expensive now. Prefer to pay abit extra, buy a bit less and have it taste fab!

  • 64. Belle | February 20th, 2011 at 6:38 pm | #

LOVE knowing that I’m feeding my family fresh, unmanipulated [is that even a word?] food that is better for the earth.
HATE searching for a decent organic-ery in the burbs – am guessing most greengrocers incorrectly assume families want cheap’n'cheerful rather than good quality.

  • 65. Matilda | February 20th, 2011 at 7:09 pm | #

I’d love to win this for my younger brother who has been a vegetarian for a few years now. He’s very pedantic about where his food comes from, how and where it is grown, etc.
Unfortunately, Organic is still quite expensive but becoming less so as more people seek it out but it’s still out of reach for some families. Another thing is that we have been programmed to expect fruit & vegetables to present blemish free but Nature doesn’t work that way. The bonus of course is the taste and knowing that no nasties have been used in it’s production, or that the goods haven’t been sitting in cold storage for heaven’s knows how long.
I love going to Pyrmont markets on the first Saturday of each month , I always get carried away at seeing everything and spend way too much money but love all the fresh produce and the atmosphere. :-)

  • 66. Sarah White | February 20th, 2011 at 7:52 pm | #

If I can’t buy organic I try at least to buy local so that my food isn’t having to travel halfway across the world to our table.

  • 67. Faheem | February 20th, 2011 at 8:53 pm | #

What I like about shopping for organic food is that when you get it fresh it always tastes beautiful, just like I remember it tasting as a kid on the family property where we grew our own fruit and veg.

Everything just tasted so amazing without that chemically after-taste that you get in conventional stuff – yes, you do start to notice it after you’ve been eating organic fruit and veg for a while.

What I don’t like is greenwashing, like when you go to certain “organic food markets” throughout Sydney, which by their names alone you would think sell only organic produce but only a few items are actually certified organic. It makes buying organic so much more difficult.

A service that makes it simpler to buy a wide range of certified organic produce, particularly when I don’t have the time or the inclination to go searching for it is a good thing!

  • 68. Elissa | February 20th, 2011 at 9:19 pm | #

I love shopping for organic fruit n veges but sometimes its a bit hit and miss, the quality isnt the same or there may be some slight bruising which can be bothersome. also the prepackaged stuff at the supermarkets mean that I am paying more for veges that I will not be using which is why I love the idea of the mixed box, a bit of everything and no waste!

  • 69. kay | February 20th, 2011 at 9:53 pm | #

    LIKE – The taste!
DISLIKE – The price and not many places around my area sell good organic produce.

  • 70. Shemyla | February 20th, 2011 at 11:23 pm | #

Most of the organic fruit and vegetables are the in-season produce…i just love to be able to buy that. What i don’t like about organic food shopping is that i have to go to specific outlets which i can’t really venture on a regular basis

  • 71. Jo | February 21st, 2011 at 7:42 am | #

What I like about organic food is simply that it tastes better, which probably really has to do with the fact that I am buying it at farmers markets so it fresher than supermarket food. I love that I buy directly off farmers so the money goes stright to them and I love that I have got to know the people who provide me with my food which markets shopping more fun! With the risk of sounding a bit spoilt I do occasionally get a bit annoyed when in any given week I cannot get access to a certain food that I want – but I am getting much better at eating seasonally! Although that is easier in Spring/Summer when there is so much yummy stuff around!

my favourite thing about organic food would have to be markets, thats the only place I buy organice food… the thing i dislike is the prices that regular supermarkets charge for organic food!

  • 73. Annette | February 21st, 2011 at 8:03 am | #

With a son with food allergies the food I buy is very important. I spend ages reading food labels. Where possible I choose food free from preservatives, pesticides and other nasty additives. But sadly shopping for organic fruit and veg is still a challenge hardly anyone in my area stocks it.

  • 74. Heather Dinsdale | February 21st, 2011 at 8:17 am | #

I LIKE (LOVE!) the smell of organic fruit and vegetables, I dislike that supermarkets do not have bigger organic sections, or have it as standard!

  • 75. nuta | February 21st, 2011 at 9:03 am | #

What I don’t like about shopping for organic food is the lack of it. I live in Strathfield & there is NOTHING out here. At least I should be thankful for the health food section at the supermarket. I also pray for the day when the prices come down to match the mainstream product.

What I love about shopping for organic food is the joy of supporting independent farmers & shops, the imaginative way the produce is presented, and the sense of love and care behind the product. I feel happier eating food that is closer to what God intended us to eat.

  • 76. Mariah | February 21st, 2011 at 10:17 am | #

Love, love, love shopping for organic fruit and vegetables especially lettuce which I have been told is sprayed with pesticides almost continually while growing… yuk! Don’t mind the varying shapes and sizes of organic food (looks more home-grown if you ask me) but sometimes resent price and age of produce (especially in the supermarket).

  • 77. Monica | February 21st, 2011 at 10:55 am | #

Hi Lorraine .. well i like that you are doing something good for the planet and your self/Family …. i do dislike the prices though :)

  • 78. D | February 21st, 2011 at 11:17 am | #

I love shopping for organic food because I know it’s been grown with no chemicals and always looks so much better than supermarket food – it looks so real! … I dislike nothing about it! I love every minute of it!

  • 79. penny aka jeroxie | February 21st, 2011 at 12:08 pm | #

Just as long as it is real organic food, I am fine with it. These days it can be so hard to tell. The prices of organic is so varied. My fruits and vege are almost all organic but sometimes it is hard to find organic mangoes, pineapples, etc

  • 80. Michelle | February 21st, 2011 at 12:20 pm | #

I love the feeling of wellbeing that I feel when shopping for organic produce – warm, fuzzy and wholesome. What I don’t like is the high cost, at least where I shop and with a young family to support, this does count.

  • 81. Teresa | February 21st, 2011 at 12:22 pm | #

I used to have organic fruit and veg delivered to my door when I lived in London and absolutely adored it. Coming home to a gorgeous box of colourful goodies was always like Christmas.

I struggle to buy organic fruit and veg in Sydney. My local supermarket usually only has empty shelves where the organic produce is meant to be. It would be great if organics were more readily available and reasonably priced.

I love going to farmers markets and buying organic when I am around on weekends. Not only is it nice to meet the growers themselves and shop in a foodie friendly environment. But I really feel like the farmers get the best deal for their produce when the big supermarket chains are removed from the process!

  • 82. ECOFY regular | February 21st, 2011 at 12:31 pm | #

As a regular customer I cant rave highly enough about ecofy. All produce is super fresh, tastes & smells delicious and lasts longer than conventional fruit and veg. I have stopped throwing away things as they keep longer. I actually think its better value for money for this reason alone. If you are a Sydneysider give it a try you wont be disappointed.

  • 83. Dimity | February 21st, 2011 at 12:50 pm | #

oh my goodness, all that leafy goodness, deliviered to your door! And I love the idea of organic fruit, as you know it was ripened by nature and not gassed. Mmmmm, opening up a box full of these goodies would be awesome! And those grapes would deffinitely not last long with my will power, yum!

  • 84. Jimmy | February 21st, 2011 at 1:45 pm | #

We’ve just started getting Organic Fruit & Veggies delivered to our door by Aussie Farmers Direct and we love them!

The $35 Couples Box is more than enough for us and it’s so fresh, really enjoy coming home to that on our doorstep!

    Have a look: http://www.aussiefarmers.com.au/VIC/fruit_and_vegies.php?s=4

Cool! I love the Tulsi herbal teas especially the ginger one :-)
    Great comp!
I would love to buy all organic fruit & veg (apparently non-organic peaches are worst for retaining chemicals), however my budget doesn’t stretch to buying more than the odd organic item; I do try & buy stuff from our local produce market (North Sydney – I’m sure you’ve tried it Lorraine) and buy from Aldi’s organic non-perishables range for home & work.

  • 86. Helen | February 21st, 2011 at 4:44 pm | #

Organic food cannot be beaten for quality and goodness. I would have to share my win luckily with my daughter and son and their families as I could never eat everything myself so quickly. How magic

  • 87. Tess Uncle | February 21st, 2011 at 7:02 pm | #

I love organic produce as it is so nice to know that what you are eating is pesticide free – obviously the downside is the cost and avaliability which is what makes this prize so fantastic!!

  • 88. Justine | February 21st, 2011 at 9:50 pm | #

I love buying organic fruit and vegetables for the taste, knowing your giving your family food that is in it’s original state not sprayed with chemicals. The downside unfortunately is the cost-

  • 89. milkteaxx | February 21st, 2011 at 11:32 pm | #

i love organic because its so much better for the environment and us! think of how much healthier people were before this chemical polluted world?!!
but as a student, i cant always afford organic so i try and get it from the USYD union, which saves me a bit of money!

  • 90. Kylie | February 22nd, 2011 at 11:00 am | #

The smell of good quality fruit and veg will always make me hungry! I guess the bad part if that the I eat too much! But really can you ever eat too much (well that depends on your jeans!)

  • 91. glenn owens | February 22nd, 2011 at 1:33 pm | #

what a great way to shop

  • 92. Sarah White | February 22nd, 2011 at 2:08 pm | #

I like the fact that an organic box of veg comes in a BOX, not 100 plastic bags that I have to recycle!

  • 93. jrm | February 22nd, 2011 at 3:02 pm | #

I love looking at all the in season produce, the vibrant colours and general real-ness of all the fruit! Plus, there is a moral boost in knowing that I’m supporting local producers as opposed to big companies and not getting all their pesticides.

Downside being knowing that it can’t be a common occurance due to price. Have convinced my mum however to get an organic fruit and veg delivery (works long hours) so this might be another contender!

  • 94. Margaret | February 22nd, 2011 at 7:20 pm | #

I like shopping for organic food, knowing that my family’s health will benefit from its goodness – however I am often taken aback by its often `much higher’ price.

  • 95. Rosemary | February 22nd, 2011 at 11:43 pm | #

We used to grow our own vegetables, either from seed or seedlings. Ion’t k now why but it seems to be impossible to buy or grow tomatoes that don’t have tough skins we used to many years ago. Now the skins are harder to cut, even with a very sharp knife.

  • 96. Ben | February 23rd, 2011 at 8:11 pm | #

I love shopping for organic food because it gives me an outing every weekend to the local fruit and veg market. It is great to walk around and smell all the amazing aromas and get some great fresh veggies straight from local farms. It is often actually cheaper than the fruit market as well. The only thing I dislike is the odd bit of rotten fruit and the crowds!

  • 97. Sarah White | February 24th, 2011 at 11:04 am | #

I love knowing where my organic produce comes from. I have been enjoying organic coffee beans that come with a photo of the plantation they were grown on!

  • 98. Bernadette | February 24th, 2011 at 4:15 pm | #

I love shopping for organic food because it HEALTHY -who wants to shop for chemicals to eat! :-) I love meeting the people who grew the fruit and veges and share their passion for goodnes, taste and freshness. Especially freshness. I like the challenge of thinking of what to cook from what’s best at the organic farmer’s market that week – stretches the creativity.
I couldn’t think of anything I didn’t like until I thought of the sad, overpriced and wilted little organic section in the supermarkets.

  • 99. susanne | February 25th, 2011 at 9:43 am | #

I love my mind set when shopping for organic fruit and vegetables. The Pros of organic fruit and vegetables is your body is being fueled with the best that you can offer it, recharging mind body and your spirit. If you could comment on a negative would be sometimes they are not perfect, but hey either am I.

  • 100. Paula | February 26th, 2011 at 8:16 pm | #

  • 101. Annabelle | February 26th, 2011 at 10:07 pm | #

    The ambiance I adore!
Amongst the growers and the opportunity to explore,
    The market varieties are vast,
With my basket and senses I have a blast,
    The prices are high,
    So bargaining I apply,
I use ALL my dollars and cents,
I’m disappointed about the astronomical expense!

  • 102. Lisa | February 27th, 2011 at 4:38 pm | #

I’m so jealous now. That food looks absolutely divine, I often have daydreams about wanting (feeling a need..maybe my body talking to me) to only eat organic food, but where I live in Bathurst, the only organic food place we have certainly do not provide a beautiful boxful (nor price) like what you’ve displayed.

  • 103. Sarah White | February 27th, 2011 at 6:26 pm | #

I love the diverse range of fresh, natural & wholesome organic products :)

However, I dislike the higher cost associated with purchasing them & the limited retailers that sell them to the general public :(

  • 106. Susie Q | March 1st, 2011 at 1:12 pm | #

    Hi Lorraine,
For me this would be a whole new experience…..
I can honestly say I have never tried organically certified organic produce…I would love to give it a try. If it is true that it is more nutritious then I double there would be any downside!

I don’t like the fact that the organic produce at my local supermarkets is all packed and wrapped. I wish O could pick your own like with the rest of the regular produce.

I am a very happy Ecofy customer of about 12 months now. Ecofy is fab value for money – their stuff is the freshest available and outlasts shop-bought stuff by a mile. Not to mention that it tastes AMAZING – the pineapple is out of this world!! (Not to mention the tomatoes, oranges, zucchini, onions, potatoes….!!) JUST TRY IT!!!

  • 109. Louise | March 3rd, 2011 at 11:45 am | #

I love knowing I am eating food that has been grown sustainably and that I am buying what is truly in season. I don’t dislike anything about organic food.

  • 110. rebecca scarinci | March 3rd, 2011 at 12:49 pm | #

I love organic food as it reminds me of my childhood. It tastes so much fresher and not as “chemically” as fruit and veggies do these days. What I dislike is the fact they sometimes charge double to be organic.

  • 111. Mel | March 4th, 2011 at 4:19 pm | #

As a student I find I’m very torn between being a good civic citizen and supporting organic and living on a budget. It is a weekly struggle to source great, fresh organic produce for my self, friends and family who are all very health consious. I try and drive to Lane Cove and or wait for Farmers Markets. The idea of home delivery at a reasonable price is absolutely wonderful! Brand new to your blog but loving it!

  • 112. Danielle | March 5th, 2011 at 12:02 pm | #

With a damaged stomach I’m doing all possible to eat a unprocessed, gluten, dairy and number free diet to help repair the damage.
I was so looking forward to a relaxing morning at the Organic Markets this morning. However a request to go to work changed all that!
Currently looking into organic deliveries, just not sure where to start!!

  • 113. kiwilayla | March 5th, 2011 at 1:09 pm | #

I Dislike the pretentiousness of some organic foods; love that it is far healthier and free from chemicals and pesticides; sometimes feel frustrated at its cost or that the occasional bug is included with the food.

  • 114. Elizabeth | March 5th, 2011 at 1:36 pm | #

We must have organic fruit/veg. but in stores it always look so unappetitising.
Would love to sample your basket please.

  • 115. Tammie | March 5th, 2011 at 4:19 pm | #

Love shopping for Healthy and fresh foods that are chemical free like Ecofy’s goods- However hate the lack of variety that most stores keep of certified organic foods- sometimes nthe supermarket has vegies but rarely fruits at so many stores…and now I work on weekends dont get a chance to go the the market myself- Would love the positive experience a hamper like Ecofy could offer my family!

  • 116. Amie | March 5th, 2011 at 7:51 pm | #

I love shopping at any organic market. It is always great to know you are getting chemical free food and the taste is miles above the rest. The only thing I dont like is sometimes the price can be a little much to buy all the time, especially when you are paying a mortgage

  • 117. Donna | March 6th, 2011 at 10:45 pm | #

I love giving my kids what I took for granted, but hate the lack of variety and availability!

  • 118. Megan | March 7th, 2011 at 7:24 pm | #

I was complaining to a friend about how difficult it was to find a reliable source of organic fruit & veg and she told me about this article. I’m so glad that she did!

I like organic because it tastes better and is better for you. Also I feel like I’m supporting farmers who truly care about what they do.

What I dislike is how difficult it is to obtain consistent quality.

I’l definitely be giving Ecofy a try! Thanks for a great article.

  • 119. charis | March 8th, 2011 at 3:56 pm | #

I like how the fresh the fruit and veggies are also that they’re in their raw form or at least should such as wax free apples. Dislike the price but I guess you get what you pay for and its harder and probably more costly to grow the same amount of crops organically.

  • 120. RICHARD D T WILSON | March 8th, 2011 at 9:29 pm | #

Organic food doesn’t seem to have the turnover so it isn’t so fresh!
But I think we deserve the best,
So to the farmer’s market I go,
And also in the garden I sow!

  • 122. soni | March 10th, 2011 at 11:30 pm | #

I love buying organic food because I know I’m doing the best thing for my family’s health. What I don’t like about it is it’s harder to access organic food.

Their flavour and taste bring me zest,
    Keeping my mind organically obsessed,
    Organic foods I trust,

I love to be supporting organic farmers and avoiding unnecessary chemicals. I don’t like having to hunt around and travel to find them. Beautiful looking produce.

  • 133. Ellen | March 16th, 2011 at 9:20 am | #

I grew up on a small farm in semi-rural England and as a kid I used to get teased at school because my apples were always spotty and my tomatoes were always odd shapes and sizes, simply because they were organically homegrown. At the time, I hated it and wished my parents would just buy the shiny, symmetrical fruit and veg from the supermarket! Now, living in Sydney, I always seek to find organic produce, and I adore the irregularities as it adds to the rustic charm and reminds me of my childhood! The only thing I don’t like is the price and pretentiousness, but I’ll take that over pesticides any day! :D

  • 134. Lulu | March 16th, 2011 at 9:29 am | #

Thanks for posting this! Looks delice!

What I like most about shopping for organic produce is the flavour & knowledge I am feeding my family chemical free goodness.

What I hate most is to get the best produce I had thought I had to go to a market – not easy with a 4 year old & 20 month old who both refuse to go in a pram! We love markets but trying to food shop at them is next to impossible . Looks like I should check out Ecofy!!

  • 135. Petra | March 16th, 2011 at 10:05 am | #

I love how it is so fresh and flavoursome and I actually like the unusual shapes and colours. I don’t often like the price tag though!

  • 136. Linda | March 16th, 2011 at 5:24 pm | #

No pesticides is enough of a reason and the flavoours are amazing!
I know it sounds terrible but non organic apples look so much prettier :(

  • 137. Michael Damien | March 17th, 2011 at 12:13 pm | #

I love buying organic produce because it tastes the way it should do… The fruit is sweeter, tomatoes actually taste of tomatoes and not pale red cardboard, and the vegetables are firm and scrumptious. I also like that they are not all uniform in shape and size- I don’t think that same-same is always good. The only downside is that it is often more expensive, but the more support we give the growers the more financially sustainable it will become.

  • 138. Michelle Bonnici | March 17th, 2011 at 8:32 pm | #

I love organic food because its so much healthier and I can get so much more nutrition from it. The taste is also amazing.

What I hate about organic food is that it can be so expensive.

I hope that this blog and all the other people who get behind organic food will help to support the organic food movement so prices come down :)

  • 141. Veronica | March 19th, 2011 at 8:12 am | #

Love the taste of organic fruit and vegies it is sooo much better.
Definitely prefer buying from local growers markets than supermarket as it adds to the experience when meeting the growers etc….

  • 142. Amanda | March 19th, 2011 at 1:43 pm | #

I love the fresh full flavour, the warm fuzzy feeling that I am doing right by my body, my kids, the growers and the earth. I dislike the travelling to buy, the look of the produce (sometimes) and the price.

  • 143. Naomie | March 19th, 2011 at 3:44 pm | #

The price difference causes me to hesitate when shopping for fruit and vegies. However I summon the courage and took the plunge into the organic produce and have never looked back, the freshness and quality just doesn’t compare.

  • 144. Fifi | March 19th, 2011 at 3:52 pm | #

I love the taste and the flavour.
I hate that in the supermarket and regular fruit shop the organics often look tired and old because they have been sitting around too long and look like they were only bought as an afterthought!

  • 147. Janelle | March 20th, 2011 at 4:04 pm | #

I LOVE the feeling that I’m feeding my family the best foods when using organics produce. It is becoming more readily available which is great. My BIG dislike is although it is becoming more readily available, it is hard to get a great range of fruit & vegies from the supermarket which makes it hard to do just one big shop in one place.

  • 148. Sharon | March 20th, 2011 at 5:13 pm | #

Knowing that the produce is safe, and very delicious and nutritious to eat. It makes a world of difference compared to other produce. The price difference is the only thing I dislike.

  • 149. Rita | March 22nd, 2011 at 5:50 pm | #

I love the true taste of organic food, its virgin taste is like heaven, the way food use to taste, without the nasties, making it food from god.

I love the smell, the touch, the look and freshness of organic fruit and vegetables….sadly I don’t quite like the price of some of the items.
