I don’t think I’ve ever been mistaken for Martha Stewart but there is something in me that loves a good themed party. I find themes bring together a party and can direct ideas on what to serve and how to decorate things. I’m not quite Martha enough to make all of the decorations myself (nor do I have the skills, quite honestly!) so any opportunity for me to focus on the food rather than the decorations is welcome.

I love that butterfly chair!
I once went to an F themed party. Some guy dressed up as ‘Facebook’, but writing facebook on his forehead and attaching a piece of paper saying ‘facebook’ to his T-shirt. Innovation!
haha.
Awww they have Peter Rabbit:) I hope children these days still know of Peter Rabbit!
How fantastic, i love it!
I have to say a good friend of mine just hosted a boy baby shower and oh my the detail was just gorgeous.
Blinging it back to the old skool – bling and disco attire!
The best party I’ve been to was a Titanic themed 21st. It was on a boat and the dining room had been decorated exactly like the movie set! Everyone got really dressed up with lace, fur, coats and gloves. It was such a lovely evening and something I’ll never forget.
The best themed party I’ve been to is… the one I’ll give if I win the voucher. *lol* I’m sure there are others, I just have to think for a few minutes/hours/days.
My sister’s 40th Wig and Tail party was a fun affair. Guests received an invitation embellished with a swatch of purple hair, and were requested to wear a wig or a tail and appropriate costume. The “celebrity” guest list included several Steve Irwins, Marilyn monroe, belly dancers and Rastafarians. Great fun for grown ups!
I went to ‘nursery rhyme’ themed party. Many creative types came as, Old Motherubard, Puss from Puss in Boots and Jack and Jill. I went as a teapot, as in ‘I’m a little teapot short and stout’…
Was quite a hoot !
I love themed parties and go to town on my son’s birthdays. This year it was Avengers, did you check out my Avenger/Marvel cakelets I made for him? I did a Star Wars theme a couple years ago, it was dress up and I was Princess Leia. It really helps having cool places like these party places to help out so you can focus on food. Love the Peter Rabbit stuff.
A friend did “Alice In Wonderland” for her daughter 5th birthday. This was forever ago, before Johnny Depp made it a “thing” again.
There were small cookies & chocolates in HUGE glass jars & huge sweet pies for desserts.
T had put in a lot of thought to deco’s – huge paper flowers etc. Labels that read “eat me” “drink me” etc.
I was really quite jealous that my own daughter was way too old for an Alice party.
Oh, that would be a girlfriend’s “Bad Taste” party in first year uni! I scoured op shops until I found an incredibly lurid kaftan and absolutely every single person put a lot of thought and effort into their outfit!
I love themed parties. The best one I went to was ‘Come with a Sparkle’. The bling was unbelievable xx
I recently went to a “Best of British” party that had great themed food and everyone made such wonderful effort to get dressed up as their favourite Brit.
I have never heard of Ready to Party, but now I wish they had have been around when I was younger. I don’t think I ever had a birthday party that wasn’t themed – I had disney parties, tea parties, USA themed parties, fairy parties and even a pirate themed sweet sixteen.
The best themed party I’ve ever been to was a fairy party I went to as a little girl, they completely redecorated their home and garden to look like a fairyland and had fairies running around painting faces, blowing bubbles etcetc.
The Little Boys Party I arranged for my husband’s 30th. The ‘boy’s dressed in school uniforms and the ‘girls’ dressed as teachers. The menu was steak & kidney pie and jelly for dessert with the obligatory cake pushed into the face of the birthday boy! We had pass the parcel with forfeits and the Headmistress had a cane and wore a Mortarboard…enough said!
Clearly the best themed parties are the ones *I* have planned.
Duh.
Right now I am planning an Alice in Wonderland 21st, a Super Mario Brothers Icecream party and a Harry Potter 21st feast
This is such a cool giveaway my friend! I am loving the party atmosphere
I think the best themed party I have been to is a Disney themed one – my friend gave everyone a character, decorated her house filled with the classics and had a homemade castle cake! It was awesome
Cheers
Choc Chip Uru
Best was Freaks and Geeks, so much fun!
Pajama/breakfast party : ) We all dressed in our jammies and ate cereal and pancakes while watching kids movies, was very enjoyable : )
so many “i want” things on the site!!!!!! with bridal showers, hens nights and weddings coming up (mine and two friends) i think my credit card will be getting a work out on this site!
Best ever themed party was a great gatsby themed ball i went to for uni, with a big brass band and everyone dressed as flappers it was a fantastic night!
My grand daughter would love this
A ‘P’ themed party. Princesses, pirates… pussy cats!
The best themed party I’ve been too was a NYE “come as your alter ego” party. Fantastic fun! and where I met my husband who was dressed as a crazy scientist
All the baby packs are gorgeous. I’m having a baby shower in a couple of months, definitely going for the Peter Rabbit or the Alice in Wonderland.
Best themed party I’ve ever been to was a 20s themed how to host a murder. We all dressed up in silks, (fake) furs and dinner suits, drank Pimms and put chocolate cigarettes in plastic cigarette holders – very glam!
A ‘Bad Taste Party’ where we all dressed in mis-matched outfits and ensembles, and all the food was hideously coloured or arranged inappropriately (yet still utterly delicious). It was heaps of fun.
A Pirate-themed 50th Birthday party for a friend included fireworks and a piñata in the shape of a treasure chest.
My daughter’s Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs party was a lot of fun. No body came as Snow White and a whole lot of little Dwarfs got filthy digging for gold. Now I’m planning her 21st so the would be a great prize to win.
A Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory party – the invites were golden tickets inside chocolate bars, there were glowing candy canes and chocolates hanging in the trees, a mini chocolate fountain with things to dip and we had to dress up as a type of confectionary. The party was sweet as bro!
“Murder on the Puffing Billy Express” – roaring 20′s dinner party with a whodunnit theme – seriously good fun – there’s one coming up end August!
A uniform themed party. It sounded kind of dull, but the variety of uniforms that people pulled out were excellent! I myself borrowed my housemate’s hot pink scrubs and a stethoscope and went as a doctor.
A 5yo pirate birthday party at a park…treasure chest cake, the playboat in the park dressed up with a Jolly Roger, and themed hats, games, prizes and food. An aaaarghfully good time!
The best party I have been to was a medieval theme. It was such fun first making a medieval dress out of something I found at the op shop and some curtain rope and netting and then donning my garb and seeing all the other cool costumes. My favourite was the guy who went as a castle tower.
I went to have a look and this place has a huge assortment of party ideas.
I did a 1960s themed party. Sadly I just opened up the wardrobe for my fancy dress outfit.
Theme parties? Throughout the year, we have MANY!
The laughter and memories with friends are plenty!
Am THE biggest Mickey Mouse fan, TRUE!
MICKEY MOUSE BANQUET was the theme too!
Incorporated 35 dishes, mini bite portions of all world cuisines, tapas style,
Talking about THIS party STILL goes on after all this while!
Included dishes that are actually served at EPCOT in Disneyland,
Everyone was provided with MICKEY EARS….as had on hand!
Colorfully exciting dishes expressing my personality!
The theme party venue (home) was THE HAPPIEST PLACE on the planet to visit…as our friends are PRICELESS and mean THE WORLD to ME!
I went to a hat party once – It was great as it wasn’t stressful thinking of a full outfit and the photos and stories behind the hats worn was amazing!!
A 50′s Frank Sinatra theme party -everyone looked amazing – all dressed up and so sassy and swish! Everyone said what fun it was to dress up!!
Oh, I would love this!! (Although you frequently award me prizes!!) My Mum’s actually having a birthday party proper this year, so I’d love to get some things for her… or myself, considering I’m only two months after her! The best party I’ve been to that was themed was probably my 5th birthday party. It was a fairy theme. Although she was a single povvo mum, she managed to string up hundreds of paper lanterns and streamers around our backyard, and we had a REAL FAIRY!!! come and sing songs and play games with us, and ate lots of pink things. I still have a picture dressed up in a ballerina costume with fairy wings on. So awesome. Although at my next birthday party, my mother and her bestie at the time decided they were going to make my party themed, and dressed up in sexy kitty outfits and drank lots of alcohol. I’m told we were all confused…
An S themed party because it was a friend’s 40th. She went as a showgirl, and stole the show!
My uncle’s 30th was Star Wars themed enabling me to live my dream as Princess Leia
for my sisters 18th we had a mad hatters tea party theme, it was amazing, we had mismatched crockery, fun high tea type food and lots of crazy props and costumes!
My friend Jeniqua’s Jazzercise party was amazing. So many leggings, high-cut leotards, fluffy heads of hair and eye-blinding colours…
A “pictionary” theme. All guests had to dress up and others had to guess who they were. Nothing was simple;all quite cryptic so enormous fun. One guy turned out to be a dictator -he wore a potato in the most unusual place!
weirdest theme was: rubic cube colors. Must have a been a big fan of the ‘cube’
LOVE this site… Ordered their adorable pink and blue mini aprons last month and they arrived really quickly! Hmm, best themed party is probably the smurf themed Halloween party i went to in NY, the outfits were hilarious… especially all the smurfette costumes
I went to a cross dressing themed party many years ago. Wish I had the photographs as some very important people were there dressed appropriately. ‘Nuf said really!
I should add it was on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend too.
Seven Deadly Sins (Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Pride, Sloth, Wrath, and Envy) we had to dress up as something or someone depicting one of the seven deadly sins. Each room was dedicated to a sin, for example, the Greed room filled with fake money and poker chips. Once we enter the party we had to participate in an array of dirty deeds the whole night, anything the host commanded (within reason!).
Best party Ive ever been to was a French Themed Kitchen Tea. Set in a Vineyard with wine & cheese tasting for starters, followed by french cuisines for lunch and an assortment of french deserts .. creme brulees, macarons, palmiers …mmmmmm it was delicious!! All guest had to come in a french inspired outfit and enjoyed the food with soft french music playing in the background. The decor, music, food and venue really made us all feel we had all been whisked away to bordeaux for the day!!
btw checked out the website and i have already got $150 worth of goodies in mind!!
Our friends are holding a ‘come fly with me’ party in July (theme is things that fly) and I’m going to go as thyme – will dress in green & make some leaves to stick on myself
LOVE the photo booth props set! My favourite themed party was the circus one I threw for my daughter last year with bunting flags, mini hotdogs & carnival games with prizes.
I’ll have to start planning the next one soon
The 1977 Silver Jubilee street party, held on the street where I grew up. There were rows of tables piled high with sandwiches and treats cooked by excited mums, lots of bunting and all manner of Jubilee festoonery. Every child had a seat at the table and also received a commemorative spoon and coin – which emigrated with me to Australia and I still have today. Happy days!
An iron chef Party, It was fantastic, we wore chef outfits, competed in cooking challenges with mystery ingredients. SO much fun!!
I went to a themed hens party recently – such a great night! The theme was – Underbelly razor – worst women in Sydney!
Hi Lorraine! I LOVE a good themed party too… I become quite obsessive and sometimes need to tell myself to stop thinking about planning whatever event it may be
My latest was my son’s 5th birthday – which was a super mario theme! We had Mario moustaches, Yoshi eggs, Princess Peach Punch, Toad Pops, 1up Mushroom Mini Muffins…. Oh the list goes on! i set up a big obstacle course for the kids with things relating to the game in it. I even painted a giant “Bowser” for the kids to defeat at the end….Anyway – I will stop there
But I totally get your obsession with planning parties and having all the little touches
Keep up the amazing work!
It was a Depeche Mode themed party… and because I love Depeche Mode it was perfect!
I have had two Hawaiian parties that were great. Everyone got dressed up and it really set the mood. People are always asking when the next one is. Perhaps 2013?? We’ll see…
I do love a themed party too and this place looks like just the spot to help bring it all together. Again, wish I was in Australia!
Today I attended a Rainbow themed birthday party for the two daughters of a friend. Everything was rainbow themed down to cakes, a Lolly buffet and a piñata ! Love love love themed parties!!!
Lucky reader!I love Themed parties.
A pj/breakfast party where we all wore our jammies and ate cereal and pancakes while watching kids movies, was loads of fun! : )
best themed party was definitely ‘Beauty and the Geek” all got into the spirit of it from the huge reading glasses, pants pulled high to the glitz and glam…lots of laughs were had!!
Hmm, I’ve been to a few over the years. I think the most fun was an Austin Powers theme. Oh Behave!
Hi Lorraine,
Loved reading this post & just adore the ‘Ready to Party’ website. So glad you posted about this now as I am in the process of planning a shower for my first baby (due 12 Sept – YAY!). My girlfriends & I were struggling with a theme and this website and helped us settle on the ‘Milk & Cookies’ theme – which is AWESOME as we now have an excuse to bake billions of NQN’s Itty Bitty Baby Cookies!! WIN WIN all ’round!
As for my favourite themed party that I’ve been to – would have to say it was the ‘Casino’ themed Christmas party my husband’s work organised. It was fantastic – complete with blackjack and poker tables and even roulette wheels. We had fake ‘Company name’ dollars to spend and croupiers who knew what they were doing. Even the cocktails had ‘casino’ names – the Bellagio, The Blackjack . . . It was fantastic. I even managed to win a trophy!!
Viva Las Vegas!
The best themed party I have ever been to (or helped organise) was my mum’s “Under the Sea” themed 50th birthday party. I made her a mermaid tail and she had her nails painted sea green. We decorated the back yard with homemade paper seaweed and crabs and served delicious seafood canapes. People went to great efforts to dress up. My favourite was the couple who came in ripped and torn retro style clothes and then, right before they entered the party, tipped a bucket of water over themselves and came as survivors of the Titanic – now that’s commitment!
As for this great prize, my 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy are already planning their next birthday parties, so it would be fantastic to win!
My Italian themed hens party was pretty fantastic!
well I just held a true blood dinner party with season 5 starting in the states and your blog was my inspiration for hosting such a fabulous themed dinner!
A Tarantino movie themed party! Really cool costumes!!
My lil one turns one next month and I’m struggling with a theme. To win this prize, make life easier, now that’d be a dream!
A breakfast/pj themed party with cereals and pancakes consumed while watching kiddies movies and wearing jammies. Fun night : )
Best themed party I’ve been to was my best friend’s 21st – it was black and white themed but held at a circus-themed bar, so I guess the overall theme was “a touch of class at the circus” – we had a ball and the bartenders lent us their top hats to pose with for photos under the “big top”.
What a fab place!! We LOVE theme parties … Especially when it’s a party for a random reason
my partner once had a Eurovision party where everyone got dressed up in euro outfits (East Germany was fantastic). Everyone brought a plate of ethnic food and danced away to Eurovision in stereo!!
We just bought a print from one of our favourite artists (SHAG) named Predators and Prey so we,re having a Predator and Prey Cocktail Soiree to welcome it to our home
can.t wait!!!!
Some visitors from the US hosted a thanksgiving party, a real novelty for us Aussies. Tried lots of new things like pumpkin pie and conrbread.
I was at an ‘American Diner’ dinner night on Saturday which was a lot of fun! Maybe not the best I’ve been to but the only one that comes to mind at the moment …
Last year for my birthday we held an Alice In Wonderland Murder Mystery party. It was amazing with everyone dressing up and I even managed to get people sized chess pieces for the dinning room!
I haven’t been to any theme parties but I did one for my son when he was turning 7…he’s now 19 and we all still vividly remember it!
It was a CASTLE(medieval)PARTY where I hired a BOUNCY CASTLE for the day and for the cake I made a CASTLE with the turrets, drawbridge and got some KNIGHTS with their (different) weapons, CANNONS, HORSES & CARTS…the cake took ages to make but it LOOKED FANTASTIC..all the kids loved it and we still talk about it.
The best themed party I every attended was ‘Tennis Pro’s and Areobics Ho’s” complete with smoke machine and Sooo much lycra!
The packs look great – probably a little more classy than our party turned out – but now we are grown ups with childern, they look more my style!
A Madhatter’s Tea Party with painted cardboard boxes made with weird dimensions and perspectives and giant polka dot cardboard tea cups plus awesome costumes and to top it off, we were all naturally mad to begin with!

We had a 50′s Style Ktchen Tea Party. It was an awesome event. Tea Cups and tea-pots. Crystal sets and multilayer cake stands with old fashion cakes that CWA would be very proud. Everyone dressed up, there were frills and aprons galore. Pony-tails and ribbons, red lip-stick and petty-coats and rock and roll music. Best party ever!
Spent last Sunday in the Rocks along with 40 others all dressed in tweed to celebrate a family members 30th Birthday.Everyone took the theme very seriously and looked brilliant down to pipes, hunting jackets and capes.
It’s a great way to get people mixing and enjoying themselves.Love the Peter Rabbit party pieces.
My daughter’s (P Party) Pink Princess Pizza party….the kids had a ball with a great DJ…

A pj party where we all wore our jammies while eating cereal and pancakes and watching kiddies movies : ) lots of fun!
My younger sister celebrated her 30th with a 1950′s themed party. We found an old cookbook published in the 50th which the food came out of, hunting around op shops and antique stores for tableware from that era and got out the sewing machine to knock up outfits. My brother in law even got an old turntable working so we could play old records that we found… wonderful night, great memories
A Eurovision party!
Each guest was allocated a country – having to bring a representative dish, and we were expected to dress with Eurotrashtic, I mean, Eurotastic flair.
We had our own judging system for the performances… pyrotechnics, wind effects, chests (i.e. bare with Medallions for males, cleavage for females), outrageous choreography and bizarre song choice. Oh, and of course… Eurotastic X factor…
My sister-in-law’s Halloween/birthday party! Was great fun stringing up all the cobwebs, fake spiders and other decorations!
best themed party i went to was for my son it was a pirate party and all the kids got in the swing and came dressed up!!
Just before relocating from France to Australia in 2008, I organised an Australian party to celebrate my move with my French friends and family! I think it was the best party I have ever been to, not because I organised it, but because all the guests really seemed to have enjoyed themselves and commented a lot on the decoration. I had plastic snakes and lizards everywhere, a giant inflatable kangaroo, beautiful posters of sunsets in WA etc, bottles of Bundaberg rum… The music was 100% Australian and very well received too (Xavier Rudd, Kylie Minogue – of course, Powerfingers etc.). I keep great memories of that day and have many photos to remind me how special it was to celebrate my “big decision” to move to the other side of the planet.
I’d love to win this prize because I have a party (which I’m organising) coming up at the end of August!
My sister-in-law’s Halloween/birthday party! Was great fun stringing up all the cobwebs, fake spiders and other decorations. If I was going to have my own themed party I’d probably have a game tournament themed party!
My husband’s 40th theme was Super Heroes and Super Villains. We got his Captain America costume while in Hawaii and because I was pregnant at the time he carried all the shopping bags and I had to carry a life sized Captain America shield for the whole day!
The best themed party Ive been to was a fairies and princes party for my child. All the children looked absolutely adorable and had a great time.
A pj party where we ate cereal and pancakes while watching kids movies and wearing our jammies, lots of fun : )
Hollywood themed party. There was everything from impersonators to the ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame’. People were snapped at the entrance by paparazzi and it was very elegant and glamorous. Fabulous!
FANCY DRESS FOR 100 PEOPLE AND ONLY TWO OF DRESSED UP – AND LOOKED LIKE DAGS AMIDST ALL THE FOOD AND CHAOS. THANKYOU.
My sister-in-law’s Halloween/birthday party! Was great fun stringing up all the cobwebs, fake spiders and other decorations. If I was going to have my own themed party I’d probably have a game tournament themed party!
a pj party where everyone wore jammies and ate cereal and pancakes while watching kids movies : )
My 3 yr olds birthday was a superhero theme. Great for girls, boys and the adults at the party. Used comic book pop art like ” POW” “BAM” for decorations.
When I was younger it was always “vicars and tarts”. Now having 2 young DD’s the parties tend to be pirates and fairies. We had a cooking party for my eldest’s 7th and I have been told that was a hit, all the attendees received aprons and chefs hats with their name on that 2 years later are still in use
A Grease themed 21st once which was held in a high school hall. One of the best nights I had in a long time.
A Willie Wonka Chocolate Factory party – the invites were golden tickets inside chocolate bars, there were glowing candy canes and chocolates hanging in the trees, a mini chocolate fountain with things to dip and we had to dress up as a type of confectionary. The party was sweet as bro!
A jungle party- it’s an oldie but a goodie. Lots of Tarzan hollers and tiger ears, dancing to drumming under the fronds of palm leaves. Hide and seek and roar was played and some mobile zoo animals came to visit too!
A pj party where we ate cereal and pancakes while watching kiddies movies and wearing our jammies
Last year, I went to a ‘Willy Wonka’ party,
A sweet way to spend a sunday,
With plenty of chocolate & candy.
A man dressed as Willy Wonka,
Children dressed as Oompa Loompas,
And a giant fountain of chocolate.
Parties are always full of surprises,
Parties are always full of treats,
Most of all they create ‘memorable’ moments
We once attended a fun party where people dresses up as their dream job….strangely lots of burlesque dancers. Must say the worst party ever was a bad taste party and some of the outfits there, those people truly took bad taste to another level.
This would really make for a good old fashioned kids party, the way we had as kids. I’m sure my kids and their friends would be completely enchanted (and so would proud Mum from the side-line)
A pj party where we ate pancakes and cereal while watching kiddies movies in our jammies : ) lots of fun!
Older and larger-that’s me and my group of friends, so getting together for a themed occasion, you have to keep it simple. Pyjamas in winter and togas in summer are the maximum effort any of them will put into dressing up. So, PJs it is. Big screen TV, lots of pillows and blankies and hot chocolates with larger than usual marshmallows, finger food and bring your loved one, either partner or canine. One movie, then home by 11. Seriously, we all in need of a good party.
SNOW WHITE 3RD BDAY-It started with handmade snowhite persoalised mirror mirror on the Wall invitations, The wicked witch was there giving out posion apples-snow white danced and played games, face painting, everything was snow white themed-biscuits, cupcakes, cake-treats, games, snow white themed jumping castle full of bubbles (dishwash liquid), slip n slide, all prizes were snow white-and I mean from crochet packs to wands to necklaces, the lolly bags had apple shaped lip balms and all snow white orientated lollies-there were red roses and apples everywhere, apple shaped tea candle holders-there were pop corn machine fairy floss and slurpie machines-I organised this party and made everything home made-home made toffee apples-everywhere you turned there was snow white inspiration for your fun filled day, its was a day never to be forgotten! next years theme is allready in the making (yr to organise lol)-mad hatters tea party
Movie Stars – so everyone was from different genres from Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Blues Brothers to Star Wars, making the night so fun!
A Christmas party for work where everyone had to go dressed as something starting with ‘P’. I went as a pencil, making a red long sheath with ironed creases lengthwise, gold HB lettering, black pointed shoes and a hat made of white cardboard as the eraser. Didn’t win best costume but thought I should have! I still have it. The new guy thought it was a joke, didn’t dress up and was the only person not in costume. Hilarious!
A pj party where we all dressed in our jammies and ate cereal and pancakes and watched kiddies movies : ) lots of fun!
A PJ party where we all wore our jammies and watched kiddies movies while eating cereal and pancakes : )
Pj parties are always fun. Dressing up in your jammies and watching kiddies movies while eating yummy food like cereal and pancakes cant be beat : )
My friends and I are a social mob therefore we love including our partners. One of our friends invited us to their BABY Q (BBQ). We all received a mini bottle of champagne and it was one of the best BBQ’s I’ve been to.
The best themed party I have been to was my own cowboys and indians party when I was 7 years old…I vividly remember how excited I was! I thought being a cowgirl was so cool.
Alphabet parties are super you come as anything beginning with your first initial of your christian name. e.g. Cherz=Chicken Tania=Tart…I will leave it up to your imagination to think up some lol..also with this type of party it is a little easier to remember other peoples names.
LORRAINE= LOVE HEART
ConnieK – that’s a great idea!! Nice way to have a get together to celebrate a baby that includes both guys & gals!! Will be making a note of that!!
Spice girls parties were all the rage when I was growing up. Lots of lip syncing and bad dance moves while dressed up as your favourite member always made for a fun party : )
We had a “splatter party” for my little sister birthday. My Mum bought cheap white T-Shirts, plain white leggings and white canvas shoes for all of the guests. Then we placed paints, pens and glitter glue on some tables and everyone basically drew on each other. It was so much fun and everyone was left with a unique take-home outfit!
The best themed party I attended was one we actually hosted for my husbands 30th last year. It was an Oktoberfest theme and we set up a beer hall in our back garden, had lots of bunting and German themed props, made German food and had German Beer, dressed up in lederhosen, bought stein glasses for everyone and played German music until late in the night. My mother in law became quite intoxicated and ended up passing out in the front garden while waiting to get driven home.
My Harry Potter party. I put so much effort into it from cockroach clusters to potions lessons. It was so much fun we made my hall look like the great hall and all the guests were put into houses. Then they went to different lessons- potions, divination, charms and transfiguration where they made potions, got their fortunes told and made real snow! The food was great with pumpkin pasties, cockroach clusters and butter beer. I put some great Harry Potter music on as well! Then all the kids graduated and got a graduation certificate and then went to Hogsmeade which was upstairs. They got Hogwarts shaped cake from Honeydukes and got to collect their party bags from Zonkos. Then we all watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. I was Snape, my brother was Dumbledore and my sister was McGonagall! It was so much fun and has given me memories to last forever.
Ohhh… a little bit sad I haven’t been to any party with a theme… But I will definitely do something special for my next year birthday, a big 3-0, AHHHHH….
My son’s pirate themed party last year was my favourite. Seeing lots of 3 years olds dressed up as a pirate was super adorable! And now 8 months later, my son still talks about it
OH MY GOD IT’S PETER RABBIT!!! PETER RABBIT!!!
Oh, back to the reason for commenting. It’s really sad, but I can’t think of being invited to a party with a theme. Maybe I’ll have to win this and throw a PETER RABBIT one!!!
Both my daughters were invited to a 5th birthday party for a girl at their day care. It was a Hannah Montanna themed party and everything was hannah. I have to say I was fairly impressed but the amount of money spent would have been OTT.
Best party was definitely ‘Under the Sea’ theme.
It was more like an ocean extravaganza!
Tall glass vases with live fish swimming in them as table centrepieces were a highlight.
Large blue silk pieces draped overhead made it feel like we really were under the water. Very unique night.
the super heros party we went to last weekend was good, but I’m into some of Ready to party’s ideas for our DD’s 5th coming up soon
The “funniest” themed party I have ever been to was a ‘SEX TOY SCAVENGER HUNT!’ Hilarious!
My friend had a James Bond night for her 30th with martinis on arrival and a prize for the most sexy Bond girl!!
My nephew had a pirate party for his 5th birthday and it was amazing. They did up the tree house like a pirate ship and had all the kidlets come in costume. It looked like so much fun for them!
A lolly shop themed party, my poor teeth sure had a workout
the butterfly chair is cute , my daughter loves that stuff
When I was 5 my friend had an early Halloween party for her birthday, which also included ‘Thriller’.
Its hard t beat a Christmas party, the lights are magical, all the decorations sparkle, absolutely beautiful
A fancy dress party with a super hero theme. Lots of short skirts and muscular chests.
I’m not sure whether this is funny or not, but it was a ‘Themed Party’ that got a little wild, so the Police were called, to find this ‘woman’ walking towards them dressed in fishnet stockings and small ‘outfit’, pushing a pram, so the Officer said, Madam/Sir, we have had a complaint about the noise , can you please turn the music down. Now to explain, the gentleman was dressed like Frank-n-Furter from Rocker Horror, so as you can imagine to the amusement of the Police , his appearance was a concern, at first, but after seeing everyone else at the party, all was good. , and they were had a good laugh, lucky for all concerned.
A barnyard first birthday was just so cute.
I hosted the ugliest christmas jumper party, there were some beauties. Mine was a red cardigan with a snowman on it and little green bows for buttons. So much fun

A ‘T’ party. I died my hair red, wore an orange shirt and green pants and went as a Traffic light.
Thomas the Tank Engine at a family farm,
The effort caused me some alarm.

And a Tractor dressed as a train ride – very impressed!
The best themed party I’ve ever been to was a Candyland themed 21st. There was candy everywhere. I wore all candy jewellery and stuff felt cupcakes onto a hot pink dress. Lots of fun and very unique!
The father of the 21st birthday girl even dressed as Willy Wonka.
A Cartoon themed party where you had to dress as your favourite character…me and my boyfriend went as Barney and Betty Rubble! Others went as Superwoman, Tinkerbell and even Foghorn Leghorn!
My cousins throws the best parties for her kids. The last was a Dr Seuss Party. Each table was decorated with food and drinks for each type of Dr Seuss book. Every child received a Dr Seuss toy and book and loot box & personalised water. There were jumping castles and carnival games.
I went to an Elvie and Madonna party. Dollar signs dangling from the entrances, a studio section to get your photo with Elvie or Madonna like-alikes. There was even a 1 year old Elvie walking around the place.
My daughter’s 18th – Disney theme, seeing grown men (young and old) ALL dressed as Captain Hook was hilarious, especially when they challenged each other for supremacy.
I went to a pirate party held in a cubby house decorated to look like a ship. We had a treasure hunt for gold coins (chocolate) in the backyard. There were holes everywhere but everyone took a little bit of ‘treasure’ home in their goodie bags. There was traditional sea shanties sung, and an all pirated accented version of Happy Birthday. We had a pass the parcel where there were smaller and smaller boxes, all painted as treasure chests. All the kids got mustaches and eye patches so everyone was well in character for the day. Many of the adults took the more traditional route of singing and drinking rum
a Mad Hatters tea party where everyone had to wear a funny hat – so much fun!
A house warming party where you could be any household object. I had red, white and blue pyjamas and unfortunately decided to go as a toothbrush. With a broom shoved down my back I couldn’t sit down all night!
For a 50thwe were all asked to surprise the birthday by by wearing wigs. It was very funny & the variety was amazing.
Unfortunately I’ve not been to many themed parties and have always wanted to have one myself. I have been to a 70′s themed party and the food matched the decade.
That would have to be an 80s party, brought back some memories that is for sure
My sister’s 25th birthday party was a 1920′s theme- so glamourous! Lots of feathers, crystal champagne dishes, long stands of dazzling beads and plenty of gangster hats! The colour theme was silver and black- lots of old hollywood glamour and so much fun!
It’s Not Quite Nigella or Ready To Party but the best themed party I’ve ever seen
Was a sixteen year olds haunted ghost manner, it was a very scary scene
Plastic tombstones, punch bowl filled with dry ice and even a fog machine,
Ghoulish mini pumpkins, cheese ball goblins and punch rounded out the party cuisine
Every detail was taken to the most eerie and creepy extreme
It was a great birthday for that lucky teen!
A cross dressing theme, my Dad went as an ugly old witch and not one single person could figure out who was under the crooked nose!
Best one was a RIO party..the costumes were extravagantly stunning, the music and dancing was wild and free and the champagne flowed from a flower laden fountain!!
A 1920s party with flapper girls & tuxedos,cocktails & canapes & dancing the Charleston.
My sisters 21st was a 60′s party and she made the outfit like priscilla Queen of the desert with the overly wide flare
Think my son’s ‘Movie Party’ was one of the best I have been to. The invitations were Movie tickets which the children had to bring for entry to the party. On arrival they were given play money to spend at the Snack Bar. The Snack Bar had a price list and signage. The kids were able to buy popcorn, juice boxes, chips, lollies etc. The Snack Bar assistant was my husband in a pink apron. The kids had a great time watching ‘Spongebob the Movie’.
a winter themed party, it was fantastic someone came as the ice queen, so cool.
I made a “little Mermaid” themed party for my daughters 4th birthday. It was great with a King Triton treasure hunt, seaweed and fish hanging from the ceiling and of course all the famous songs that made this show a hit…..Great fun.
The best themed party I’ve been to is my daughter’s 3rd birthday where she wanted everything green. It looked fantastic with all the green decorations and it was so easy for everyone to dress in their favorite green clothes. Cheap, easy and fun!!!
My kids are still quite young so they haven’t had themed party yet (I’m not wasting hundreds of dollars on an over the top party for a 1 year old!).
The best adult themed party I have been to was a 50s themed bowling party. Everyone dressed up, the bowling alley was decked out accordingly. I finally got to live out my Sandy fantasy!!
At My daughters 21st we all had to wear black & white while the birthday girl was in vibrant red. Everyone really dressed up & looked lovely & it wasn’t too difficult so it worked really well.
I went to on themed The Emerald City right out of the Wizard of Oz. It was great, Emerald coloured decorations and glitter and you came as a character you think should live in the emerald city.
