Win Afternoon Tea For Two At A Dilmah Charitea Event (5 States)!

Well you know how much I love High Tea or Afternoon Tea don’t you? Also for those of you with cooking fantasies and baking skills Dilmah is concurrently running a High Tea Challenge (open to chefs and consumers) in August – where they have to develop a high tea menu and match it with Dilmah tea, the short listed entries will have to present their menu at Hilton Hotels (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide) to Dilhan Fernando (son of Dilmah Founder Merrill J Fernando), Peter Kuruvita and Bernard Uber.

Without a doubt my favourite tea would have to be an earl grey as its so invigorating in the mornings! Also it’s so versatile, I’ve created many a couple of earl grey cocktails for girlfriends with it too :)

I’d love to attend the Sydney event at the Hilton Sydney.

    Hi!

I love New Zealand Breakfast from T2, because of the delicious scent and flavour of kiwifruit, so you don’t need to add sugar – good for the waist line!

Preferred event: Hilton Sydney (August 15) or Flying Fish (August 16).

  • 17. Phunk | July 9th, 2011 at 10:26 am | #

We are big tea drinkers here & I like different teas for different times of day but if I feel like more of a treat I have a chai made with hot milk & sugar. Nice & indulgent on a cold day :)
I’d love to go to the Perth high tea.

  • 18. Anna | July 9th, 2011 at 10:32 am | #

I started drinking tea when I lived in Ireland so Barry’s gold blend with milk is my favourite- people seemed offended if you turned down their offer of tea!

I would love to go to the brisbane event!

  • 20. bronnie | July 9th, 2011 at 10:41 am | #

Oh my Goodness, what a wonderful giveaway. I would love to win the high tea in Brisbane (and I am very tempted to enter the challenge).
I have a lot of favourite teas, including peppermint and green, but my favourite comfort tea would have to be English Breakfast Tea.
Growing up in Australia, we always drank plain black tea, with no milk or sugar. But in England I learned the delights of a good English Breakfast tea, with milk and sugar. The perfect comfort drink on a cold day, or when you’re feeling poorly. I love it!

  • 21. Alexandra M | July 9th, 2011 at 10:46 am | #

Please don’t make me choose just one type of tea! I love English Breakfast tea, chai tea, and (when I feel like a treat) Devonshire tea! I would love to take Grandma along to the high tea as she loves tea parties and cooking.
My closest tea party is in Adelaide.
    Thanks for another fantastic competition!
    Xo

What a wonderful way for Dilmah to support children in Sri Lanka!!I can’t go past the tradition of English Breakfast tea as it always gives me a freshing lift and not just at breakfast time either! I would enjoy attending either of the Sydney events-many thanks!

My fav tea flavor from Dilmah is Dilmah Ceylon Supreme tea because it has a honey golden color and its rich, intense flavor makes for a great everyday tea! The Dilmah family has been making Ceylon tea since 1974 so I know it’s the best tea around. I would love to attend Monday August 8, Hilton on the Park, Melbourne

  • 25. E! | July 9th, 2011 at 11:01 am | #

I love English Breakfast tea (not very exciting I know, but I can’t help it) :)

I’d love to go to either one of the Sydney events – but preferably the one on 16 August.

  • 26. EHA | July 9th, 2011 at 11:09 am | #

As am late, have had the pleasure of reading a number of comments posted before mine. Well, for lack of opportunity am not entering the comp, but – I am amazed at how many of your readers have, like me, made green tea their favourite! :D ! When I watch the news at night always have a big mug with homegrown Meyer lemon squeezed in. Also love the more rare white tea . . . and if out or with friends with other tastes the good old Earl Grey does hit the spot! Have a lovely weekend wherever you are?! :) !

  • 27. ann | July 9th, 2011 at 11:15 am | #

I have been a coffee drinker my whole life & have only recently discovered the simple pleasure of tea. There are some awe inspiring blends out there & I am keen to discover more. My fav tea to date would have to be the lemon zinger from celestial seasonings to get me firing in the morning & a nice earl grey to end my day.
I would love to go to either Sydney event please Lorraine, Keep up your fantastic work! It really is the highlight of my day. :-)

  • 30. Rosana | July 9th, 2011 at 11:52 am | #

Ooh Melbourne for me- either date/venue is fine. My favourite tea flavour at the moment is boring old chai, but I love it

  • 35. Matilda | July 9th, 2011 at 12:22 pm | #

Oh Lorraine, you do indulge us so :-) What a fabulous prize , I adore High Tea and often times can’t find anyone to go with, as family and friends can’t understand what I get excited about!
As a coffee drinker when I do have a cup of tea,I like it strong so I choose either Dilmah or Lipton extra strength tea. Another fav is Darjeeling, a place I’d love to visit nestled in West Bengal , India where they still have a steam locomotive and where the British used to escape to the Hill stations during the scorchingly hot Indian summers.
I’d love to win either the Flying Fish venue or the Hilton in Sydney. :-)

  • 37. Karen | July 9th, 2011 at 12:33 pm | #

Stockholm Blend sold by The Tea Centre is my absolute favourite tea. It is a black tea containing orange peel, apricot, rose petals, vanilla, calendula and safflowers. It smells divine. It has a light delicate taste but is full of flavour. A cup of this takes me away from humdrum and pressures of life. It relaxes me and makes me feel wonderful.

Monday August 15 Hilton Sydney would be my preferred date.

Oh how brilliant! I was only just googling High Tea venues yesterday because I want to take my mum out.

I love chai tea. As someone who sadly can’t tolerant lots of caffeine, a chai latte is my daily coffee – as long as they use leaves and not the powdered stuff!

  • 40. Clara | July 9th, 2011 at 12:44 pm | #

(which is by the way a Dilmah product!)

  • 41. Laura | July 9th, 2011 at 12:49 pm | #

I love Dilmah decaffeinated tea. I use a lot of it to make ice tea every day.

  • 43. Petrina | July 9th, 2011 at 1:01 pm | #

Oh, oh, oh, I LOVE Dilmah tea. It is my absolute favourite. And by far, the best Dilmah tea is Orange Pekoe. It is smooth, refined and oh so perfect. I’m actually drinking it right now (no, not sucking up, just pure coincidence!). It is the perfect drink for cold, wet, miserable Adelaide. I would love, love, adore to go to the Adelaide event.

I am a tea addict and not ashamed to admit that. My favourite tea would have to be the green tea I grew and then picked myself while I was living in a small rural town in the lower foothills of Mt Fuji in Shizuoka, Japan. Otherwise I am in love with my own secret recipe for Cherry ripe flavoured black tea (I use Dilmah’s black loose leaf tea as a base), which is all the joy and comfort of eating chocolate, except in a hot liquid form that is an excellent accompaniment with scones and cherry jam.

I adore high tea, and am now drooling at the chance to attend the Dilmah high tea.
I can go to any of the Melbourne ones!

    • Monday August 8, Hilton on the Park, Melbourne

    Or

    • Tuesday August 9, Novotel Glen Waverley, Melbourne

  • 52. Olympia | July 9th, 2011 at 1:45 pm | #

I love Premium Ceylon tea. I can taste the spices and every cup is pure delight. It may sound odd, but I often feel a calming presence and spirit when I drink it, as if the spirit of the earth that created it has found it’s way into the leaves. I am obsessed with tea and cake and everything associated with it. I am using that passion and have created,’Tea with Sofia.’
Many thanks for the opportunity. Best wishes, Olympia.
    Hilton on the Park, Melbourne.

While not my favorite for taste reasons, my sentimental favorite is the raspberry leaf tea that I drank in the last few months of my pregnancy – with added peppermint and orange (to help it go down easier!) I drank it daily willing my little girl out! Now, as a new first time Mum I would love a break to go to the Brisbane high tea(childless!)

    Brisbane Aug 18th.

My favourite is Dilmah green tea, either Jasmine petals or Moroccan mint.

What is it about High Tea that is so enticing? Perhaps just to feel sophisticated and cultured even if you’re not?

  • 67. James | July 9th, 2011 at 4:39 pm | #

English breakfast – just so nice with any kind of breakfast.

I would love to go to the event at Flying Fish. Still haven’t been to eat, but the location is amazing.

  • 68. Lyn | July 9th, 2011 at 4:56 pm | #

Would love to go to the Hilton in Sydney on August 15th to celebrate my sister’s 70th birthday on that day. I have been drinking Dilmah for 20+ years and no other brand compares to Dilmah Premium Leaf Tea. All their teas are of such high quality and you can order online from Dilmah if you can’t find the one you want in the supermarket.

  • 69. Antonietta | July 9th, 2011 at 5:36 pm | #

How boring am I then? I like to drink black tea, no sugar or milk please. I enjoy the taste alone, especially after a big meal, it settles my stomach. So it would be needed after a high tea, Melbourne at the Hilton lol. When I feel a bit under the weather, it’s black tea with a spoon of Greek honey (Attiki).

  • 70. Kath Balfour | July 9th, 2011 at 5:58 pm | #

Good girl scoring this one for your readers, Lorraine!!! I’m Dilmah’s biggest fan (even taking their teabags to the US when I go!), I love going to afternoon tea, and I donate to charity big time. So do I qualify for you to count me in for the draw for the Perth charitea event? I’m assuming we will all be tied & you’ll have a draw…LOL

  • 71. Melanie | July 9th, 2011 at 6:33 pm | #

While travelling through Morocco I was introduced to green tea with mint. Every time I have a cup of Dilmah Green Moroccan Mint Tea, it brings back wonderful memories of leisurely days spent shopping at souks and markets.
I am based in Melbourne and Glen Waverley would be preferable, however I am available for either.
    Thanks

Anyone who reads my blog knows how I adore Dilmah Earl Grey, it’s refreshing and has a zingy littly citrussy kick. Perfect for a pick me up any time of day.
I’d love to go to either of the Sydney high tea events, and I’m also going to enter the tea matching competition. Thanks for the heads up!

  • 73. christine pavitt | July 9th, 2011 at 6:45 pm | #

Early Grey is my favourite. My mother used to put the leaves in the cup and pour water on the top and I loved it. It brings back the most wonderful memories of my mother.

Monday August 15 is my preferred date. Many thanks.

I love English Breakfast, Medium Strength. I confess to being a tea addict and get anxious in cafes in case they don’t make it the right way or hot enough. I love Dilmah and the family led approach. My preferred Venue is Mon Aug 8, Hilton on The Park, Melbourne.

  • 75. MoMo & Coco | July 9th, 2011 at 7:09 pm | #

Hi Lorraine! Our favourite tea flavour is the Keemun Mao Feng, an incredibly rare and highly revered Chinese black tea. Its subtly sweet, but has a deep robust flavour, perfect to balance the sweetness of afternoon tea. Another favourite is something that has recently emerged from China, and becoming quite popular in London, “tea origami.” We can’t remember the name, but there is delicate green tea that uses a red amaranth flower tied to a chrysanthemum flower, and when infused in hot water, these flowers fully bloom. Very pretty to look at in a glass tea pot, but also lovely and light to drink. We most recently had this at the Plaza Ballroom High Tea (see our blog).

Our preferred location for the Dilmah event would be Melbourne’s Hyatt on the Park. We would love to represent a 20-something demographic, but would also bring along the mother too. :)

  • 76. MoMo & Coco | July 9th, 2011 at 7:50 pm | #

I’m a sucker for anything sweet so people lookat me strangely when I add sugar or honey to my peppermint tea but I love it! It’s refreshing, sweet, great to drink after a meal for digestion or when you are feeling queasy or as a great alternative to getting into the chocolate drawer (yes I have a chocolate drawer!)

I would love to go to either of the Sydney teas please!

Green tea is boring, what can I say,
There’s nothing quite like the taste of EARL GREY,
    Refreshing and simple,delicious and posh,
Goes perfectly with some high tea nosh.

    Melbourne – Monday or Tuesday

  • 83. Sally | July 9th, 2011 at 10:01 pm | #

I absolutely love tea! Very hard to choose just one flavour, but I would have to say rose. It has such a subtle rose flavour which reminds me of turkish delight. It is even better served with one of my other favourite things, high tea! I would love to go to the Hilton Sydney high tea : )

  • 84. Trish | July 9th, 2011 at 11:12 pm | #

Peppermint tea, its far from the High Tea tradition, but refreshing, flavoursome and dare I suggest it – naturally sweet. Adelaide – pretty please? xx

  • 94. Gillian | July 10th, 2011 at 5:15 pm | #

Tea has always had the power to transport me (well, my mind at least) to other times and places, and for this there is no other tea more perfect than the aptly named Tea for Sunday – a delicious, relaxing blend of classic black tea leaves with pieces of dried vanilla bean. Because, quite simply, who wouldn’t want to have more Sundays?

(My event choice would be the Hilton Sydney, on Monday August 15th.)

  • 95. Jess | July 10th, 2011 at 6:05 pm | #

I usually don’t drink tea, but when I was trekking in nepal in winter, nepali spiced tea was the only thing that could keep me warm as I watched the sunrise over the mountains. I soon developed an addiction to it

Is there anything better to start your day, as a pick me up, for afternoon tea or just to make you feel better than a perfect cup of tea?? English breakfast all the way! High tea in Adelaide would be just lovely -thank you

  • 98. Megadrama | July 10th, 2011 at 9:40 pm | #

    Another difficult question to answer.

    Love:
    - Authentic Marsala Chai with the warmed frothy milk,
    - Royal Milk Tea – the queen of teas
    - Lychee Flavoured white tea
    - Taiwanese jasmine balls that open up in the teacup tea
    - Cannele – cinamon and light caramel flavoured tea

But my favourite all time is Spiced Christmas tea – cinamon and spicy citrus peel flavour with a whole plum pudding thing going on!

Would love to win tickets to Chariteas to try out the High Tea Menu at the Hilton Sydney on Mon 15 August.

  • 99. Alex S | July 10th, 2011 at 10:50 pm | #

  • 100. KatieLovesWags | July 10th, 2011 at 11:20 pm | #

I adore a good strong frothy chai latte served with freshly grated nutmeg and cinnamon, but abhore the weakly flat decidedly unspicey concoction that is unfortunately served all too much. I say bah to bad tea!

    Monday August 8, Melbourne.

My favorite is green tea, but i like many of the stronger black teas grown by Dilmah in Sri Lanka. Green tea and peppermint tea I find help my digestion, while the darker teas can be good when one needs a “hit” of caffeine to get going, particularly in the morning or after a long day’s work when one wants to last through an evening of wining and dining. I would love to go to the Hilton on the Park Melbourne events and I intend demonstrating a fabulous cocktail too so I shall enter this challenge on their website.
Thanks so much Lorraine for this exciting opportunity – I look forward to sharing a cocktail with you!!!

My favourite tea is Chai. I developed a taste for this whilst travelling in India on some long train journeys back in the day(not even first class as was backpacking) The tea wallah’s would be shouting their wares on the platforms as we pulled into stations. It was an eerie cry in the middle of the night in such an unfamiliar environment but a soothing drink at all hours of the day. I am really pleased that there are so many varieties available these days. I would love to attend the Sydney event thank you

I am convinced Dilmah Tea is the only thing my husband loves more than me. We have 14 boxes of Dilmah Tea in our pantry. My husband has bought them all. He has influenced our whole family with his preference for Dilmah Tea. I now take Dilmah tea everywhere I go, because I do not like any other tea, and when my teenage daughter tastes a poor cup of tea, she comments, “This is not Dilmah”. Our favourites are Earl Grey and English Breakfast. I would like to attend the Melbourne Dilmah Charitea Event with my husband.

I love Dilmah black tea, it beats the other brands hands down and they treat their workers ethically so there’s the feel good factor as well. Also like homemade lemon tea – a slice of lemon with a quick dunk of a teabag.

  • 127. Trisha | July 12th, 2011 at 11:02 pm | #

Even at the age of 6 & 9 yrs old, my sisters and I have already started drinking English Breakfast tea pretending to be English ladies by watching The Little Princess (Princess Sarah) cartoons. Just imagine, two chubby Asian girls drinking English Breakfast out of Chinese teapots and cups! So 20 years later, we have indeed favourited English Breakfast as it brings us back to all the joyous, happy memories of our childhood.

Either Sydney dates would be fantastic, Lorraine! Cheers Trish x

My favourite tea is from Laduree in Paris. I was lucky enough to be there 2 weeks ago and stocked up!(Was slightly concerned that Customs would think I was a “tea runner” but I got through!all good :-)
The pick of flavours….Marie Antoinette, it’s China Black tea with grapefruit, lemon, orange, rose, jasmine, honey, dried flowers and fruit. Sounds a lot, but my lord there is nothing better than a cup of this in the afternoon!

Dilmah Masala Chai Gentle Ceylon Spice .Cardamom lends a zesty and slightly sweet note, Lemongrass and Peppermint together soften the tone, creating a deliciously sophisticated Masala Chai. True to the Asian Chai tradition, this is an all natural drink that is both reviving and calming.
I’d love to go to the brisbane high tea with my daughter before I have to go into hospital.

Our favourite is Dilmah Premium Cylon tea.
Must be made in a good, preheated, pot and served in a nice bone china cup – not that I’m high maintenance.
I’ve been drinking tea all my life thanks to Grandma.
When my daughter was born someone sent me a box and amongst the things in it, nestled in a teddy’s lap, was some Dilmah. The midwife checking it out said – “Someone really loves you, they’ve sent you Dilmah”!!
My daughter is 8 now and drinks tea too:-)
We live 90 minutes west of Brisbane on the edge of the Lockyer Valley…..drank a lot of Dilmah during the floods as we were trapped for several days, listening to the choppers coming and going over our house.

The Brisbane event (Thursday August 18), please if I’m one of the lucky ones!

I’m “potty” about all “varie-teas” and I’ve been drinking it “oolong” time. But if I had “tease” out a decision as to my favourite, it would be “Kandy”, hot, black and strong! Is there a joke there perhaps?

Grand Marnier & Amaretto in equal parts ( I particularly love Disonarro Amaretto), add these to your glass, make a pot of ORANGE PEKOE TEA and pour hot tea over liqueurs…. Dilmah’s Rose and Vanilla tea served in a patterned Morrocan tea glass transports me to an exotic garden of fountains where colourful mosaic tables are laden with mouthwatering almond pastries.Alternately Earl Grey reminds me of high tea with my Great Aunt when fine china and sugar tongs were de rigeur. I would be honoured to attend either Sydney Charitea.
