Halloween Pumpkin Cheese Dip Recipe

NQN's ghastly, ghoulish Halloween party!

This Pumpkin Cheese Dip is one of the tastiest dips you can serve at your Halloween party. This makes 2 whole pumpkins that are easy to prepare and bake with the dip in the whole pumpkin. You can easily halve this and just make one pumpkin but two sometimes makes party sharing and dipping easier.

An Original Recipe by Lorraine Elliott

Preparation time: 25 minutes

Cooking time: 50 minutes

  • 2x900g/2lb Jap pumpkins

  • 2 cups/240g/8.8oz grated cheddar cheese

  • 200g/7ozs feta cheese crumbled

  • 250g/8.8oz sour cream

  • 250g/8.8oz cream cheese

  • 1/4 cup chopped chives or spring onions

  • pepper (salt isn't necessary for the dip and the feta is salty)

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry and a little milk to glaze

  • 1 egg beaten

Step 1 - Set oven to 180C/350F. Cut the top off the pumpkins and scoop out the seeds. Place on a baking tray. Mix the cheeses, sour cream, chives and pepper well in a bowl and spoon this into the pumpkins. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden.

Broomsticks ready for the oven

Step 2 - Increase heat oven to 210C/410F. Place a baking tray in the oven to heat up. Make the broomsticks first by cutting out a broomstick shape using a sharp knife out of the puff pastry. Use the knife gently to draw the broom bristles. Place on a sheet of baking paper and brush with egg wash. When the oven is ready, lift the sheet of greaseproof paper and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden and crisp.
