Duke of Clarence's Sunday Roast for Father's Day

Duke of Clarence's Sunday Roast for Father's Day

Looking for something delicious to treat your dad with on Father's Day? The Duke of Clarence Pub in Sydney's CBD delivers delicious Sunday roast meals with all of the trimmings. The meals take a total of 10 minutes heating up in your oven and there's also a range of delightful cocktails and a range of gifts available too.

The Duke of Clarence's and Barrelhouse Group's Mikey Enright says, "After last year’s lockdown, we knew how to spring into action with takeaway deliveries and the format set up, rather than having to create a new takeaway business. So in that regards it’s been a little easier, but like everyone in this storm, it feels a little harder and more frustrating mentally on all involved. Our team are keeping well, getting vaccinated and just waiting on the business to get back into gear to do what we love." They are also keeping busy opening the Hickson House distillery in The Rocks.

Customers order their roasts by 4pm the Saturday night prior at the latest and can either have it delivered or pick it up from the city location. The minimum spend for delivery is $50 and the delivery radius covers the city, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, North Shore and Northern Beaches of Sydney. For Father's Day delivery will take place from 11am-3pm on Sunday the 5th of September. I order my meal for pick up between 12pm-3pm on Sundays. "We started with pick-up first but as restrictions narrowed we went to delivery to share the love out. Adding the delivery element has helped give staff more work while the bars remain closed," says Mikey.

There is a choice of 5 types of roasts including chicken, British beef, pork, pumpkin and lamb. They all come with house-made gravy, roasted Dutch carrots, broccolini, peas, beef fat roasted potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding. There are also a range of complimentary condiments including extra gravy, hot English mustard, Dijon mustard, seeded mustard and horseradish.

Gift-wise for Father's Day there's also a range of shaving products from the Duke of Clarence's sister venue The Barber Shop. There's Enright’s Original Gin Shave Set with shaving oil, shaving soap, after-shave balm and gin scented liquid soap plus a range of shaving accoutrements. And there's also a range of British foods from pork pies, sausages and haggis to breakfast packs for your own at-home fry up.

The meals come with a sheet of preparation instructions which are very easy to follow and once your oven is preheated to 180C/350F all you do is slide everything into the oven on a baking tray. The potatoes and pigs in blankets go in first for 5 minutes and then you add the meat and vegetables to the tray and cook for another 5 minutes and heat up the gravy in a saucepan.

Chocolate Old Fashioned, Vauxhall Garden $15 each

In the time that it's cooking I prepare my cocktails. The takeaway cocktails are really well priced at $15 each. I have the Vauxhall Garden with Bombay Sapphire Gin, Kamm & Sons, St. Germain Elderflower, Pineapple Syrup & Lime which is divine. I shake this up with an egg white and it is done within a minute. Mr NQN loves the Chocolate Old Fashioned made from Makers Mark Bourbon, Angostura bitters and sugar and infused with milk chocolate.

British Bred Roast Beef Sirloin $30 + Pig in a Blanket $3

The beef is our favourite roast and comes as two generous slices of beef with house-made gravy, roasted Dutch carrots, broccolini, peas, beef fat roasted potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding. The Yorskhire pudding is crisp and puffy, the gravy delicious and the vegetables are also perfect to go with the beef. I'm surprised at how well this reheats.

Roast Pork $30 + Pig in a Blanket $3

The Murray Valley roast pork has three thick slices of roast pork served with gravy, apple sauce and all the trimmings. The pork does tend to be on the fatty side although it is tasty with the apple sauce and trimmings. And I wish I had ordered an extra serve of the beef fat potatoes or a pudding for dessert.

So tell me Dear Reader, do you have a favourite roast meat? How often do you have a Sunday roast?

This meal was independently paid for.
