About This Viral Yogurt Cheesecake

3 Ingredient Viral Yogurt Cheesecake

A month or so ago, the viral 2 ingredient Japanese yogurt cheesecake in a cup took TikTok and the world by storm (with ensuing depleted supplies in some stores). It involves no baking at all, just 1 minute of prep with sticking Biscoff cookies inside tubs of Greek yogurt and letting it sit overnight. I first saw it on Garron Noone's Tiktok and was intrigued so I tried it as soon as I could.

So does it taste like a cheesecake? Initially, not really. It's not bad but the tangy yogurt was a tad too strong.

But there are easy ways that I'll show you to make it taste like a cheesecake!!

Adding the extra ingredient takes it from a 2 ingredient to a 3 ingredient recipe but trust me, this makes it taste much more like a cheesecake. Once I used a sweetened yogurt and added some strawberry jam it was absolutely delicious! Like it tastes like cheesecake kind of delicious and not just ingest only when you're a hungry gremlin over the sink kind of delicious. Yes that's me!

Is this healthy? Well the yogurt is healthy but the Biscoff cookies and jam sadly aren't. Which is why I haven't made any claims that this is healthy, just convenient and tasty!

And yes this is basically a version of an icebox cake or the choc ripple cake!

Yogurt - We use honey Greek yogurt as it has an added sweetness to counter the tangy yogurt flavour. I also tried it with a jam donut flavoured Greek yogurt too and that was really nice too. It's best to go with full fat as we want that creamy mouthfeel to mimic cheesecake. If using natural yogurt, add a little honey or sugar for a bit of sweetness but keep it slightly tart to balance the strawberry jam.

Biscoff cookies - These were sold out completely at the first supermarket we went to but available at another. You can sub with Graham crackers, digestive biscuits or coconut biscuits. Basically any cookie that you could see working in a cheesecake base is good but avoid ones covered in chocolate as the chocolate prevents the cookies from absorbing the yogurt and becoming soft (like a tiramisu).

Strawberry Jam - I used this home made strawberry jam which is sweet but the yogurt is tangy so it works. Avoid strawberry jams with a lot of pectin that are hard set - you want a jam that you can dollop.

Tips For Making 3 Ingredient Viral Yogurt Cheesecake

1 - While it is called the Japanese cheesecake, it isn't like a Japanese souffle cheesecake. It is named that because a Tiktoker called Stan Fukuse posted it to his channel worldofxtra. He used Sable cookies that are a buttery cookie popular in Japan.

2 - Make this a high protein breakfast by choosing high protein yogurt. Some tubs of yogurt contain up to 16g of protein per tub which is pretty good for breakfast (like a 2 egg omelette)!

3 - The only catch is that you really have to wait at least 8-12 hours for the cookies to soften.

Personal Note

Sometimes things on Tiktok work and sometimes they don't. This was one that did (with some help) but others aren't great (pasta chips I'm looking at you!). I do find myself on Tiktok a lot of the time and although I rarely post, I am an avid watcher of things. My topic range is usually confined to true crime, Heated Rivalry and sometimes cleaning because I am a bit of a clean freak.

I also learnt something new the other day. It's called "slow vaccuming". Instead of running your vacuum cleaner quickly over the carpet, the idea is to slowly move the vacuum cleaner over it giving it time to properly suck up any dust. And while I didn't get anywhere near as much dust as people did in the tiktoks (I think they had shedding dogs) I got more than I normally did!

So tell me Dear Reader, what is your feed mainly made up of? And have you ever tried the viral Japanese yogurt cheesecake?
