Ingredients For Pizza Garlic Bread
Garlic bread loaf - We want a loaf that is sliced in half horizontally but not cut vertically into little pieces. We used the La Famiglia traditional one (not sponsored).
Mozzarella cheese - Grated mozzarella cheese, ideally freshly grated over pre-grated. Can also use a pizza blend.
Pizza sauce - Jarred pizza sauce. To make your own homemade pizza sauce crush 300g/10.6ozs whole peeled San Marzano tinned tomatoes with 6g/0.2ozs salt with your hands (from the Neapolitan pizza recipe).
Onion - red onion, very thinly sliced.
Olives - Black or green sliced olives
Pepperoni slices - Pre-sliced pepperoni is good as it curls up into 'roni cups!
Hot honey - The best pairing for pepperoni! Make your own hot honey in 5 minutes with my hot honey recipe.
Tips For Making Pizza Garlic Bread
I keep this garlic bread in the freezer for emergency pizzas like this. I make this so often but it's something that I don't even consider a recipe until Mr NQN suggested that I share it.
400g/14oz garlic bread loaf (make sure that it is not pre-sliced vertically into small pieces)
150g/5oz mozzarella cheese
100g/3.5oz pizza sauce
30g/1oz red onion slices
15g/0.5oz sliced olives
150g/5oz pizza pepperoni slices
Hot honey to drizzle
Salt and pepper
Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1 - Preheat oven to 200C/400F fan forced or 220C/440F conventional. Place the garlic bread sides (400g/14oz garlic bread loaf) on a baking tray and top with pizza sauce (100g/3.5oz). Then add mozzarella cheese (150g/5oz), onion (30g/1oz) and olives (15g/0.5oz). Then line up with pepperoni slices (150g/5oz). I double these up (sometimes they are thinly cut, sometimes thicker depending on brand) and use the entire quantity over these two garlic breads.
Step 2 BAKE - Bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and drizzle with hot honey and slice up.
Personal Note
I always layer pizzas like this to show off the pepperoni right at the top. I love it when the pepperoni rolls up on the side to form cups that can hold in the hot honey.
Speaking of layers, we recently visited the Southern Highlands for an outdoor food festival. In Spring the weather can be a bit turbulent and this weekend was no exception. There were storms predicted and rain was abundant on the Friday evening as well as the Saturday.
Mr NQN and I were out at dinner discussing the weekend's plans and the topic of weather came up. And with the wet weather came one of my big fears: leeches on the wet, grassy ground.
"You'll have to wear gum boots," said Mr NQN. "I'll have to buy gum boots," I said. "But what if they crawl inside the gum boots?" I asked.
"What if I wear my fleece lined stockings?" I asked. I bought them for the depths of winter and since the weather was going to be around 10C/50F that sort of qualified for winter wear.
Mr NQN laughed at the idea but then looked it up and apparently military personnel, specifically Navy SEALs wore them during the Vietnam War! And they worked in combination with my new gum boots.
So tell me Dear Reader, have you ever made a garlic bread pizza? Do you have any phobias?
