Lord Howe Island did something I am usually terrible at: it made me stop. I remember the luxury of being gently outpaced by the island itself, where the breeze, blue water, curious turtles, slow meals and the simple news of fresh produce arriving by barge all seemed to insist that there was nowhere better to be and nothing more useful to do than pay attention.
