Olivia by Fave is a cute dog friendly cafe in the heart of Potts Point with a large outdoor area perfect for a sunny weekend. The menu is not your standard cafe menu with an Asian inspired take on dishes and creative drinks. They're also known for one item: their Dutch baby pancake!
It's a long weekend Monday when Mr NQN and I take Teddy and Milo along to Olivia by Fave. We had previously eaten at Faved at their other location on Darlinghurst Rd. Since then they've moved their cafe to Orwell Street. This is a much better space for a cafe and almost every table is taken here when we arrive at 1pm. Olivia by Fave is also open for dinner from Thursday to Saturday.
Olivia by Fave is owned by fine dining chef Apivit Wattanavibool and front of house manager Olivia Veerasattra after whom the cafe is named. The staff are super friendly and Olivia remembers us from our last visit with Teddy and Milo.
They bring over a water bowl for them and we settle in on an outside table under the umbrellas. I'm glad to see that the tom yum risotto is still on the menu because it was so delicious but because there are a lot of new things on the menu, we decide to try other dishes.
Mr NQN enjoys his cold brew with a caramel foam cloud on top just to sweeten up the coffee a bit.
The matcha foam fresh coconut juice comes in a whole coconut with toasted coconut and a matcha latte inside that isn't overly sweet but perfect. I would definitely order this again.
If you're looking for a high-protein brunch or lunch, the steak and eggs has a MB +2 rump 200 g with fried eggs, hashbrowns and PiOik sourdough with an option of either chimichurri or bearnaise sauce (it's always chimichurri with steak for me!). This is great value but not only that it's actually delicious. I don't usually have steak and eggs for breakfast but the chimichurri really brings it all together. I definitely recommend getting a side of the chilli oil too just to spice it up.
The chilli crab casarecce is a delicious mix of sweet and spicy with spanner crab, chilli garlic confit, tomato bisque and a generous blanket of pangrattato for crunch. Mr NQN particularly likes that it's not really heavy in seafood shell bisque and that they use a lighter bisque instead.
But the best seller is Olivia‘s pancake. This is a Dutch baby pancake that is freshly baked to order with bruléed banana, berries, white chocolate cremeux, cultured butter and soy maple syrup and we add a scoop of ice cream. It's nothing short of fabulous - it is huge but completely feasible to devour after having your own favourite dish (or maybe that's us!).
So tell me Dear Reader, do you like steak and eggs for breakfast? And which steak sauce do you usually choose?
