Every weekend we used to try and seek out a dog friendly cafe. In the Annex is located on Ross Street in Forest Lodge or Glebe and is a cute little cafe with an eclectic menu and great prices. And of course a small dog friendly area!

Every time we both see a popular cafe with an outdoor area we quickly take note and save it for one of these weekend excursions. With my beloved Miss Moo now gone, the urge to do this still hasn't passed and we still take note of places with outdoor areas.

It's busy at In The Annex when we arrive but we manage to nab one of the two outdoor tables. Service is friendly but quite unsure - it may be our waitress's first day or something along those lines. The couple that own it are very sweet and friendly and come over to take our order.

Pot of chai latte $5

Mr NQN has a cold drip coffee while I order a pot of sticky chai latte. It's an enormous tea pot of it, easily 3 or 4 cups of chai in this and it is made using steeped tea leaves, not powder.

Granola $12

The prices are really reasonable with items starting at $10 and then going up to $16 for avocado on toast. We start with the granola with blue gumtree honey, grapes and apples, stewed fruit and yogurt. It's not bad although I think I was hoping for a bit more summer fruit.

Brekkie Burrito $12 + $2 bacon

The burrito comes out next-this is the cafe's most popular item. It's filled with rice, beans, scrambled eggs, edamame and jalapeno aioli and I added crispy bacon for $2.

Some of the menu description is quite quirky-edamole is edamame and "jalops n aioli" is jalapeno aioli. Still Mr NQN is a big fan of this and it's filling and tasty.

Brown Rice Bowl $18

I'm rather smitten with the brown rice bowl. This has three pieces of meltingly soft twice cooked pork belly, a fried egg, zucchini and cauliflower pickles, chilli, aioli and fresh herbs. I'm still thinking about that amazing pork belly and salivating as I'm writing this.

We're about to leave and then one of the owners brings out a warm from the oven pear and mixed berry muffin to us (and another table). It's such a treat to get freshly baked muffins and there just the right amount of sweetness to this.

So tell me Dear Reader, how often do you go to cafes? What do you look for in a cafe?
