Peggy Porschen's Pink Parlour, London

The Queen of London cakes Peggy Porschen was the first stop in our 12 hour layover in London. Her pale pink cake shops and cafes make her an Instagram darling. Apart from cakes, tea, coffee there are also macarons and cookies. Plus of course everyone taking photos!

Peggy Porschen's Pink Parlour, London

German born Peggy Porschen is known for her cakes and her love of the colour pink. There are two Peggy Porschen cafes in London, in Belgravia and Chelsea. The original is in Belgravia although the Kings Road Chelsea location is newer and larger if you are averse to waiting and queues.

There's a woman who is riding in a cab. She has instructed her taxi driver to drive slowly and she is leaning out of the window busy taking photos of the pink hued cafe.

It's 11:30am when we arrive at the Peggy Porschen's pink parlour and thankfully there's no wait for morning tea. Service is polite if not particularly warm. Our waitress recommends some cakes and we share a pot of tea. There are no real savouries although there is a plain croissant available.

Chelsea Floral Rose £4.95

The hot Chelsea floral tea is lovely and warming and this is a naturally caffeine free tea that is sweet and floral.

Eton Mess & Fleurs £6.75

They recommend us a cupcake it is really pretty. It is a vanilla sponge filled with strawberry jam, berry buttercream, strawberry sauce, strawberries, meringue and edible petals. Alas it isn't overly fresh; it feels like it has been baked a few days ago.

Peggy's Pink Pavlova £6.50

The pavlova is pretty although it's really more meringue than pavlova as there isn't the soft interior. It is topped with chantilly cream, strawberry sauce, raspberry crunch and berries. I think they just need an Aussie or New Zealander to show how what a pavlova is ;)

Jam Heart £2.80

I do like the jam heart because it is what it says it is. It's a raspberry jam centre double layer vanilla biscuit that is nice and crisp. It goes well with the tea.

So this is a place perhaps best savoured for the Instagram worthy pics!

So tell me Dear Reader, what is your favourite colour? And do you prefer meringue or pavlova?

This meal was independently paid for.
