S'Bread House, Lane Cove

S'Bread House is a banh mi store in Lane Cove that sells banh mis with creative fillings. There's a wagyu banh mi served with a cup of pho for dipping or a karaage fried chicken banh mi. Find out which banh mi is a must order!

Mr NQN and I were driving back from the Hunter Valley when we decide to stop by S'Bread House in Sydney's Lane Cove for some of their Vietnamese banh mi rolls as it was lunchtime and 2 hours into our drive. We park in the shopping centre and wander around looking for the S'Bread House shop. The charcoal coloured shop is located next to The Canopy area and is easy to find and faces the outdoor eating space.

S'Bread House has been open since early 2025 and is known for their innovative banh mis - ones filled with Lao sausage or karaage chicken or with a cup of Pho dip. There are 9 banh mis on the menu including a vegan banh mi made with jackfruit.

There is also a new all day breakfast banh mi menu with offerings like Nem grilled pork sausage and egg or pork floss and egg. Service is friendly and it's a group of young guys in the kitchen. We take their recommendations on what to order and ask for extra chilli on the side. We also order some egg coffee and a Vietnamese milk iced coffee to have with our banh mis.

Wagyu "Pho" dip $22

We start with the big daddy, the Wagu pho dip which at $22 is the most expensive of all the banh mis on the menu. It has MB9+ Axe Wagyu topside rare roast beef, eschallot mayo, hoisin, S'Bread House "Sriracha" as well as fresh herbs and a cup of Pho broth. And damn this really does have all of the flavours of a Pho in it especially the stronger ones like hoi sin and herbs but the thinly sliced rare roast beef is fantastic too. It's definitely worth trying.

Viet-Ball Sub $12.90

My favourite banh mi is always the meatball so I'm intrigued to try their version with a cup of soup. This has soft Vietnamese Siu Mai meatballs, eschallot mayo, herbs and pickled red onion with a side of tomato dipping broth. This is more tomato forward than other meatball banh mis and honestly I love it. It's juicy, especially dipped in the broth and there is just the right amount of filling for a satisfying bite.

The Fried Chook $13

I was tossing up between The Fried Chook (chicken karaage) or the Roast Chicken (like the criskin chicken) but I'm persuaded towards the fried chicken as they explain that the roast chicken is a bit more oily while the karaage is lighter. I also love chicken karaage and have never seen it in a banh mi before. The roll is filled with karaage style chicken thigh, eschallot mayo, S'Bread House Sriracha and pickles. This ends up being my second favourite banh mi because despite the fact that the chicken is deep fried, it's perfectly balanced with the juicy, tender chicken karaage and the generous amount of pickled onion. 10 out of 10. No notes.

Crispy Pork $16.50

We finish with what might be the most popular banh mi and visually it is a beauty. It features chunks of crispy roast pork belly, chicken liver pate, eschallot mayo, house maggi sauce, pickles and herbs. And it is absolutely delicious. The pork is so crunchy crispy with every bite as is the bread. It's hard to decide on favourites though and really there were no duds at all!

So tell me Dear Reader, have you ever tried a banh mi with a dipping broth? And would you go classic or creative with banh mis?
